so since it's summer time now, everyone, iconians included should take a break from the war and go to risa to get a tan.

i want iconians on the tanning beds or floating around with the floaters.

after the event's over we can return to killing each other.
Now clowns, that's another story. They scare the crap out of me.
We fight them too. Entire armies spilling out of Volkswagens.
We do our best to fight them off, but they keep sending them in.

The stats are already available via Tribble. That's why he said that. And it's not nearly as 'warship' as the name would imply.

Sure, it has 5 Tac consoles, but also 4 Sci consoles. And the Tac boff seating is pretty rubbish. Definitely more Sci focused on Boffs.

Good lord, only 2 ENG slots and a LT engie station ? Even the solar cap is ferengi only. The trait looks midly interesting but not enough to have to grind out the whole ship and scrap it later after earning the trait. I'm just not seeing the attraction here.

    and they fixxed bikini's ?

The boff seating on that ship looks absolute garbage. I probably would have participated if only to get a head start on next year's ship, but since that's been nixed I really have no reason to visit Risa this year.

Thanks cryptic for freeing up an hour or so a day that I would have otherwise spent on STO.

How this Ship looks like

I hope not tooooooo ugly :D

P/S. I don't understand why people complaining? This Ship is FREE and have Lt.Cmdr PILOT station...

So far I'm ignoring this event as i am not a fan of anything Ferengi shipd or characters. I undertand people do want it thoough I may visit Risa if the other rewards are good enough that you cn get with favours but the jetpack joyride mission will be missed. This hasn't been the first Risa event I missed and won't be the last.

My apologies... that turned into a wall-o-text thanks to responding to too many points at once. :o
    ageroth1 wrote: »
They've already posted about this. The reason for it is because they don't want people just buying up the new ship and then ignoring the event. This forces continued participation for those wanting the ship, as was the case in the first year.

You're thinking of the Pearls, I'm talking about retiring the old ship projects.
Well look at it this way, its additional incentive for earning the ships as they come around (play now or you'll never get this tremendously potent character resource.) Its holding our feet to the fire, but its not surprising in the least to see a business act in a business-like way (at least they're not charging us for this as a c-store account service)..

The thing is, the new system does less of that. Once the ship has been unlocked, we can acquire additional versions at no cost, at any time, with no additional participation required; that's amazing if you've got the unlock sorted out. It also means that someone with 4 characters only needs to do the course 25 times (compared to 28 under the old system), and doesn't even need to bother doing so during Event time for more than the one character completing the unlock (compared to only being able to earn the ship during Event time). In addition, if that player was new or had missed a prior Event or Events... they might've run the course up to 84 times to unlock all three ships on all 4 characters; now, they will run it 25 times and be done.

I love the new system as a long-time player. I simply don't see it as a good idea to improve participation... and I think it outright sucks for new/returning players.
It also does one thing for newbies: prevents them from spending their time grinding for a T5-U cruiser when a T6 warship is available. Ideally you would assume they know the difference and how it applies to them. However when its entirely conventional to assume they're absolute dimwits who can't tie their own shoelaces without looking at the manual (just see any PVE PUG complaint thread) its not exactly fair to conveniently assume that same cohort of new players has the ability to rightly consider all possible consequences of their actions (since that's just selecting the line of reasoning which best suits the feature that we'd like to see, in spite of how it probably leads to a self-contradictory point of view.)

Therefore, leading them to make the "correct" decision (ie. pick the ship which in the game now has the greatest general value, however when we start comparing T6 ships then this question should definitely be re-opened) isn't a bad thing..

Hey now... the official stance is that T5-U is "competitive" with T6, and has "T6 capabilities". Obviously there was no "wrong" choice, just different ones. :P
    Science =/= Pacifism

See. the history of computers, radar, ballistics, aviation, metallurgy, nuclear technology, pathology, ect. ect. ect.

Agreed. Sadly, this ship isn't exactly going to be mother load of offensive science.

Nah, it's pretty much what they've established the Warship designation as being: 4/4, Cmdr Tac, maneuverability somewhere between a Battlecruiser and an Escort. It's a "Science" Warship in a similar manner to a "Science" Carrier... it still lacks the Secondary Deflector that can add a significant amount of damage to your Science abilities, making Science mostly a secondary characteristic. I really wish we'd gotten a real Science Ship...

...because there's still no T6 Science Ship for 2/3 of the factions in the game. :P

Overall, it's just not what I was looking for. I'll run the Event and unlock it, just as I would've anyway, but I don't know how much use I'll get out of it... we've got plenty of ships capable of half-afting Science, and another just doesn't impress. It could work for crowd control, but no real Science damage; personally, I think I'll be making heavier use of the Lt Cmdr seat for Pilot abilities. The Starship Trait isn't bad either, though it really sucks for any PvP holdouts that favor a drain build... that's a hell of a hard counter to their entire setup.

Congrats to those that will enjoy easier access to a Ferengi ship, though; this does at least provide that, and hopefully it has a proper bridge with a Dabo wheel. :)

Props to Kahmseenair for the Tribble capture!! I was ambivalent about the event ship until I saw the stats (assuming that Cryptic releases it in that configuration). A new Science destroyer is perfect for my Delta toon, since it's my only Tac captain, and I've been interested in seeing what a science destroyer could do with a tac captain. My normal alts will also likely have some interesting combinations with this ship as well, since they are all engy's and sci captains, with varying specializations.

Thanks, Cryptic, for keeping things interesting; now go fix that #TRIBBLE^@&#%$# server lag, so I can justify a LTS! :P

I don't think so; it's just that the last free ship was a cruiser, and it takes quite a while to get the full mastery done, so we can move on to the next ship. I personally prefer destroyer class, although I found carriers to be quite dynamic...

Well yea a New Science Destroyer would be Great, Problem is, that thing is not a Science Destroyer, look at the Dyson Science Destroyers: Commander Science, Sensor Analyses, Secondary Deflector, 4-5 Science Console Slots, 3-4 Tactical Consoles, at Least a Lt Commander Tac, and can Load DUal Cannons,

THATS how a Science Destroyer looks like, and the Nandi? Basically a more Science Focused D'Kora, so a Tactical Ship, HORRAY like there are not allready more than Enough Tac Ships, so instead of bringing a real Science Ship that most People were expecting, we get this

iam normaly a Ship Collector and try to get all Kinds of Ships, esspecially if they are Free, but this thing, out of Protest, i will Skip.

I'm wondering how many people who are expressing disdain for the event ships' stats/boff seating are min/max types.

Seriously, a ship that isn't exactly one thing or another to an extreme is not a bad thing. It fills in the gaps between such ships in the established fleets, and puts that ship in a place more unique than simply a clone of a T6 Scryer or such.

If you don't like the ship, then there are plenty others to choose from in the game. If all you are playing for is the reward ship, then I have to say you are missing out on the intent of the Event...to have fun on Risa. Think of the ship as a nice bonus for doing what you'd be doing anyway.

Personally, I'm not seeing it as something my characters will crew (unless it has an interior and bridge that would make me consider it), but since I enjoy the races, I'll probably pick it up as I go.

I'm -still- waiting for that Risian interior, though.

Not mine. My complaints are because I can't build what I want to because...

...2/3 of the factions in the game don't have access to a T6 Science Ship. :P

For the most part, the boff layout would readily accept Pilot-flavored variations on most standard Escort setups, and we did just get a Pilot Escort Pack, on the heels of an Iconic Cruiser Pack, on the heels of a Command Cruiser Pack... but still no decent attention to Science. A "Science" Warship is just too half-afted for the builds that I'd want to try, at least the ones that I don't have the option of picking up from the C-Store or Fleetyards.

Really, if we want half-afted Science, the Science variant of a Pilot ship would be quite competitive. It'd lose two aft weapons and some durability, but picks up a fore weapon and adds a LOT of maneuverability... plus the whole Pilot Maneuvers mechanic and the associated damage immunity. The only real perk here is the ability (for Rom captains) to slot an additional SRO, but that comes at the cost of being unable to fly an actual Warbird (so no Rom Battle Cloak) and an overall lower rank of boff abilities.

It's decent, I'll give you that... but it isn't the third part of a Risian set, it isn't a Science Ship, and it isn't all that amazingly unique in its capabilities. Honestly, what I was hoping for wasn't the ability to port over my build... it was the ability to make a new one.

It is free, though, so okay. :)

Hey Trendy, you the devs can add a actual Lohlnut Pearl items to the store to trade in the pearls for, I would love a pearl necklace for my toons.

Since Risa is supposed to be like the Hawaii of the Star Trek world, in Hawaii, there are such things as a lei of Kukui Nuts, usually they are more expensive then regular flower leis, especially if they are made of actual Kukui nuts

So it would be cool if the pearls could be exchanged for cool necklaces make from the pearls.

Actually, on reflection, it makes perfect sense.

The Risians might have had concerns about their cruise liners and fast yachts being too vunerable to piracy and the Borg in past years, so it would make some sense for them to agree to the Consortium's plans to redesign them as pocket warships without giving up their original roles entirely.

But this decision was no doubt controversial on Risa, whose culture is one of acceptance and peaceful enjoyment of being. The argument for protection of those coming and going from Risa and the establishment of a corvette to defend the system probably swayed the majority to accept the necessity in the turbulent current times, but trying to push additional ship development towards Science vessels (except for a hospital ship, what use do the Risians have for anything like this, especially one designed to make tearing apart space easier?) and especially a Carrier (ok, how do you swing a ship designed to operate attack fighters to a society that prizes non-aggression?) would probably hit a brick wall. The calls of 'aren't those corvettes we built enough?' would probably be loud enough to generate surfing waves at the Resort.

So, in retrospect, I am actually happy with this decision. Risa is not Andoria, nor even Earth. The two classes of Risian ships probably pushed the limits on what could be even close to rationalized, even with the Iconian threat, and I don't see them putting more into combat classes. The idea they might rather go to other producers of ships (the Consortium, or even the Kobali for their new cruiser-class ships) to aquire additional assets seems more reasonable than a complete Risian battlefleet of carriers, cruisers, scout ships, escorts, and destroyers (which is where this would have to lead after five Festivals if no one called a halt).

Not to say I am happy with the devs retiring the two Risian ships -before- the event, but that boat has sailed. I am simply saying it restores some measure of immersion to have the ship this year be offered by the Consortium vendors on Risa, but not actually -be- a Risian warship.

Lore-wise this makes sense and fits. Thank you for posting this I was going to post something similar but decided to read through the replies first. Though the idea that Risians got into making combat ships in the first place kind of throws their whole cultural mindset out the window, especially when they advertise it as you can "have fun" too. Leave the hypocrisy to the Ferengi, they are better at it.

On that note hurray for more Ferengi ships!
