I'm pretty meh toward the whole deal but I have one question to ask. What about the consoles from past ships? Key reason asking about those. The idea of a Sci heavy Risian ship makes my beaker drools.
Can I slot a new project for a Risian Corvette or Risian Luxury Cruiser?
No. These ships are being retired with the start of the 2015 Lohlunat Festival.
Ok i get it you retire the pearls, reset projects at the end of the event but WHY the frak do you remove stuff from the game? I didn't manage to get the Cruiser last summer, maybe i wanted that ship... equal footing my TRIBBLE... Thank you!
Still doesn't answer the original question. Also, the emphasized bit was not publicly announced before today, so there's no "originally", perhaps devs knew that internally but we didn't.
Was the Risian Corvette available with the following Summer event? Yes.
Was the Breen Chel Grett available with the following Winter Event after having done the Risian Corvette available with the following Summer Event? Yes.
Was the Breen Plesh Brek available with the following Winter Event after having done the Breen Chel Grett available with the following Winter Event after having done the Risian Corvette available with the following Summer Event? Yes.
So they're moving on to what they originally planned...after having not done what they planned with one Summer and two Winter events? While also adding in the account unlocks so folks would have an easier time getting those ships on future created alts for the next event...which obviously must not have been what they planned either, eh?
A huge steaming pile of targ diarrhea...is what that is.
It doesn't say that. It says that new projects cannot be slotted. In order to get the ship, a project has to be slotted...at the reduced 40 cost, but it is still a project. If one can't slot the project...one can't get the ship.
If your alts don't have the mission already, then they can't slot them.
So, Delta Recruits are SOL.
The first summer event it was advertised as that they ships would not return.
On the second event Geko said the first year's ship would not return in a Priority One interview, but it did come back... I think (but cannot be 100% sure) this was due to server issues at the time.
This year they're sticking with no previous ships available as they had originally planned.
They have not specified that alts cannot get previous ships if they have already been earnt - I have asked for clarification on this matter.
"These Risian ships are stupid and worthless! Nobody wants them!"
"Okay, with this year's Summer Event, you won't be able to slot the old Risian ships you hated so much any more."
"No, don't take away the old ships!!"
Jeebus, people, make up your minds! Are the corvette and luxury liner "stupid" and "worthless", a "waste of valuable time"? Or are they something worth throwing a fit over when they leave?
(My vote is in the middle - I got those ships on some of my alts, although I never really found the corvette all that useful, and I'm looking forward to seeing what I can get this year. It's not like my Delta Recruits aren't all going to be at least lvl 50 by the time the event ends anyway - advancement in this game is ludicrously fast.)
The specifics of the ships are immaterial. Its the precedent.
I dont care to have the luxury cruiser at all, and I probably wont miss it when gone.
But if the new summer ship has some sort of console set bonus that is of worthwhile use Ill be frustrated that the person next to me, doing the exact same event as me, will get more out of it because they have the cruiser from last year and I have a Delta Recruit.
Imagine this past winter event. You needed to have the Breen Raider to get those pets (which are some of the best pets and are far more than just cosmetic). So imagine if you were told that by doing the event you would be able to get a Breen Carrier but would never be able to get the raider pets that are supposed to go with it, while your friend will because they happened to pick up the raider the previous year.
if it was just cosmetic I wouldnt care in the least. I dont get the shiny purple sparkly mount that was available for a limited time but functionally its the same as the sparkly orange mount I can get.
Flyin High is the single worst event daily mission to grind repeatadly. It's tedious, it's boring, it's LONG, and even for just one character it's simply NOT enjoyable in any way. I was so happy knowing that I've done enough of it last years that now I won't have to participate this time and could still get the ship. Instead, now I read that it was all for nothing, and for recompensation I'll be rewarded with another grindy currency, or GPL store items...
But hearing the old ships are getting retired is just flabbergasting... A move so idiotic that... somehow it doesn't surprise me, coming from Cryptic.
It was Geko's idea, wasn't it? Because mostly he's so fond of removing or ignoring old content for the sake of new shinies/grinds he wants players to grind/pay for...
Would you at Cryptic at least FIX the ******n performance issues S10 introduced? Because as it is Risa is UNPLAYABLE, even at the absolute lowest settings for me and many other people. It was a resource heavy map to begin with, but now it's so bad I'm getting about 4 fps. Not really encouraging for an event, don't you think?
Christ... Cryptic, we get it that you want to keep people playing, but have you actually considered instead of grinding repetitive and unenjoyable content to do something that would be encouraging and interesting on it's own? Like, making something actually TIME WORTHY, instead of just feeling like a hamster wheel? Naturally I can only speak for myself, but all the reputations, dailies and daily limits, tokens and other restrictions do really make it all feel like a chore, instead of giving us a reason to play.
I think only one of my alts really uses the cruiser and corvette, but with all of these Delta recruits that might've changed. Not sure whey these are being retired instead of being purchasable at discount in the new currency. Sad to see the option being taken away. Never take away options, especially those that have been earned.
Perhaps they'll make it up by releasing T6 versions? Updated Corvette(w/Pilot), Cruiser(w/Command), and a new Sci ship (w/Intel) for the 2015 event? And Risian bridges and interiors? Not holding my breath, but I can still dream.
Otherwise, there should have been one last chance to obtain them for 2015 before retirement.
Can I slot a new project for a Risian Corvette or Risian Luxury Cruiser?
No. These ships are being retired with the start of the 2015 Lohlunat Festival.
WHY! At a minimum I want the Corvette for may alts, I like that ship! The Lux crusier is unique, and I'd like to get it too at least on one character. Now I guess I'll never get it or the console.
BravoSierra...
I do like the idea of the exchange of pearls for points and things.
I DO not care for he emotes... I foresee keybinding them and people spamming across sector space with them over their ships.
As long as the Alt-Discount is still in place, I'm not really concerned about "the Grind" ... but ...
Can I slot a new project for a Risian Corvette or Risian Luxury Cruiser?
No. These ships are being retired with the start of the 2015 Lohlunat Festival.
Seriously !? ... that's exactly what they told us before the Winter Event ... but the other 2 Breen Ships didn't "retire" either ... so is it serious THIS time ? ... or just another poor job of "Copy & Paste" ???
Patch Notes : Resolved an Issue, where people would accidently experience Fun.
Just realized something... the only silver lining in this whole deal is that those players that stockpiled currency are the only ones that benefit. New players and old players that never slotted the ships lose out. For what reason? So there won't be a minority of players that get the new special stuff on day one (even though they did the grind to either collect or buy the pearls).
I have pearls left over and not happy with this change and not that much time to play so now cryptic *******s screwed me by making it where I mud dos or not as stated "be competitive" to ****ing npc TRIBBLE. Now I wont be able to get the new ship or acquire last ywars ships for my waste of space felt recruit thanks for further penetration by ur ****ty developing.
I understand the game design/business motivation behind the move, but it would have been nice if the pearls could have been used for this years even and then retired.
I also have concern since I wont have access to my usual computer for a couple of weeks this summer that I wont be able to finish this years projects as well. If there is to be a new currency each year, with they be completable next summer at all?
I would be nice for those of us who have claimed the ships before to retain the ability to turn in 40 currency to claim/reclaim the old ships on our accounts.
I like the starship emotes, and I would request some options in the realm of "go left" , "go right", "follow me", etc to use in queues for quick communications.
I thought that the general consensus was that the cruiser was a pretty nice ship? My Orion did pretty well in it until she got her Breen carrier.
I have an alt who was flying a Risian cruiser (RXS Latinum Princess). I was at the time roundly derided for making such a "foolish" choice of ships. (Never understood clearly why, as it mounts four weapons forward and four aft, has a fair number of consoles, and has Cruiser Commands - mostly folks just thought it looked ridiculous, I gather.)
The consensus on the forums, at least, was that the very idea of a luxury cruiser converted into a warship was "stupid". It was widely hated, with a number of people swearing they'd never even bother playing the Summer Event if that was what they were getting as a reward. Now that its day is done, of course, it's the greatest thing since replicated bread, and Cryptic's just horrible for taking it away...
What if I have a partial Summer Reputation project in progress?
Those of you that already have a summer ship project in progress from a previous years event WILL NOT lose any progress, and can simply finish that project either with Risian Lohlunat Pearls or with the new currency when it arrives.
Contradicts this:
Quote:
What if I don't finish a Summer Reputation project?
All in-progress Summer Reputation projects will be removed at the end of the 2015 Lohlunat Festival.
While phrased in a confusing way, I didn't see a contradiction there. I read it as:
1. If you already have an in-progress Summer Rep project that takes Pearls, you will be able to contribute either Pearls or the new currency in order to complete it.
2. Thereafter, any Summer Rep projects that remain uncompleted at the end of the event will be removed.
Pretty sure #2 is so that they don't have to maintain two alternate currencies for the same thing indefinitely. This change is intended to encourage players to use up their existing pearls so that by the time the next SLV rolls around, there won't be enough Pearls left in circulation for them to need to use both.

Okay, how's this - if you slotted the project on an alt but somehow failed to complete it, well, Bob's your uncle. If you slotted it on a main but failed to complete it (much more reasonable), you can keep doing it. You can't slot a new project for the old ships, however. (And why would you want to? It's not like the Risian Corvette was ever a massively popular choice for an escort...)
This makes no sense. In both your examples, the projects will be removed, so you can't "keep doing it" even on your main.
[EDIT] Ok, I misread. The keyword I missed is "at the end of the 2015 event".
As for the last bit, and your previous quoting of people complaining about the Risian ships in general, not everyone want ships because of how efficient they are but how good they look (in the eyes of the beholder). Besides, as a daily forumite myself, I had hardly seen the amount of negativity about them that you seem to imply.
Will this "alt discount" apply to the Winter and Anniversary events as well? If I already claimed a Breen Plesh Brek on one of my chars, can my Delta Recruits claim it in one run of the daily?
Everyone is pissed about pearls...who cares? (ook a lot of people but really at least you can trade em in instead of just straight middle finger, which I might add should be a starship emote)
The EMOTES gota go, im sorry but this is STAR TREK not KID TREK Saturday morning special
I'm okay with a lot of this. Some of it I even like.
What'm I'm NOT okay with is killing projects in progress at the end of the event, and retiring the goodies.
There's all ready too many things Delta Recruits can;t do or get, so please, sop adding to the pile!
As far as I'm concerned, the ONLY VALID reason for taking away the old ship projects is if they were being replaced with T6 versions.
A T6 Pilot Corvette, for example, would make all sorts of sense.
But on the other hand, the straight-up best free T5U cruiser in the game is going poof, and I have sever doubts it'd reappear with Command or Intelligence abilities.
Being brand new to the game and an altaholic my hands are still sore from the Winter Event. As much as was looking forward to getting to fly some of the new (to me) ships this will save me a great bit of time not having to try to obtain the previous ships for my characters. I would like to have been able to check them out for the graphics and bridge interiors but oh well.
I hope that the Founder's Day event gets put it sometime as I have not had a chance to check that out either.
Can I slot a new project for a Risian Corvette or Risian Luxury Cruiser?
No. These ships are being retired with the start of the 2015 Lohlunat Festival.
What if I don't finish a Summer Reputation project?
All in-progress Summer Reputation projects will be removed at the end of the 2015 Lohlunat Festival.
I took this as you have not previously got the ship and you cannot slot a project for the ship at full cost. There is no mention about the reduced ship projects - I have asked for clarification.
This makes no sense. In both your examples, the projects will be removed, so you can't "keep doing it" even on your main.
Try reading it all again. The projects will all be cleared - at the end of the 2015 event. You'll still be able to finish them up this year. If you have a partially-completed project from a previous year and still aren't able to get it finished this year, then what the frak are you doing with your time in-game?
A perfectly logical design choice. It won't affect me at all this summer, but for the winter event, I have two characters with 1000 tokens saved, so I have two years where I won't have to do the event.
While this is good for me, it's clearly not what was intended by the devs (someone mentioned that they had 9 years!). I only hope that there are similar rewards for the winter event tokens too.
Not sure how I feel about retiring the two older ships though - again, it doesn't affect me, but I see no reason not to leave them available.
However, the timing is poor - This is not the first time either. When they announced that turning in Marks would no longer grant 1.5*dilithium, they did it just before a dilithium weekend. I (and others) said then that they should have announced that this would occur after that weekend, rather than before it. Seems this wasn't taken on board.
At the same time, I really think I'd spend a couple hundred dollars a year if it just meant being exempted from all attempts to control or direct my playtime. In some ways, I don't think you can be hybrid F2P without letting people just say (at a reasonable price), "Don't try to manage my playtime or extract more out of me."
Maybe convince PWE to exempt gold or even some kind of new gold plus (which I really think I'd pay for) from playtime metrics.
I really just don't want to be micromanaged. Surely that's relatable and there's a reasonable amount a player can pay to exit the ratrace and just PLAY undirected and without any specific incentives aside from currency.
I don't even understand the reasoning behind this move.
Did I not do the daily mission 25 times for the ship? If I wanted next year's ship, would I not have to do the daily mission 25 more times?
Oh, no, I did the daily mission 25 times last year so I could get this year's ship on the first day. Guess I won't log in at all. It's not like there's another ship next year. Is that what Cryptic's thinking? Since I have this year's ship from doing the daily mission 25 times last year, I won't play the daily mission for next year's ship?
And, the argument that this is to stop people from getting the event ship on the first day is kind of moot since you can purchase the currency using lobi, lots and lots of lobi.
Being brand new to the game and an altaholic my hands are still sore from the Winter Event. As much as was looking forward to getting to fly some of the new (to me) ships this will save me a great bit of time not having to try to obtain the previous ships for my characters. That's my problem. There are already so many cool or interesting things that I can't ever do/get because they were removed from the game, now these are getting added to the list. I have a Breen carrier on two characters and now a horde of alts who want one, but I'm afraid they'll never be able to get one and that I'll never be able to get the other two breen ships to get a full set. This is doubly bad since you had to earn one of the other ships to get the better hanger pets for the carrier. >_<
How long until Cryptic turns around and says, "We've heard your concerns about the previous Summer/Winter Event Ships...we're proud to announce you can now buy them in the Lobi Store!"...meh.
If they were going to do that, saying so in the FAQ would have been a lovely way to head off some of the complaints. But they haven't said that, so your guess is as good as mine.
I have to admit... While I have characters that have flown the Breen ships, and my sons like theirs, the only character I have who's ever flown a Risian ship is my Ferengi. (He painted his luxury cruiser a yellow gold, naturally). I can't honestly say I'll miss them on my new characters. And on reflection it really doesn't make sense to continue to hand out T5 ships when T6 is the new hawtness...
Not necessarily or entirely agreeing with the decision, mind you. "Spend it or lose it" does not exactly inspire me to devote limited gaming time to grinding out for something I might fail to get. But there are other things I can do in STO that don't involve limited events, so I'll just focus on those. Maybe I should go back and give the Foundry another go...?
