Think I had enough of this farm/grind bs now.
I will be on holiday for a month during the summer event had pearls saved up
so I could just deliver, get the ship and just enjoy my holiday, guess not....

Thanks a lot PWE and Cryptic, think I will just give a rest with this broken game where the fun has been gone since season 7 and it just feels like a 2nd day job last 2 years......

Sure I got my shiny on day one, but so what? I still had to grind for next year's ship so they still got my playtime and MORE because I OVER played knowing I could use the extras the next year.

Lets be honest, you did not have to grind more last year. Plus that playtime was last year - they're looking to get people in game this year! Regarding over playing as you knew you could use it next year - sorry but it was never specified that would happen only assumed - yes I know it is an assumption based on what they previously did, but things change!

I will add, that I did exactly the same thing as well - I have plenty of pearls that have been sitting in my bank for nearly a year - but I'll just trade them in for Specialization points instead.

Dammit I was going to participate this year to get the ships I missed the past few year cause real life got in the way but now I probably won't.

For the first part, I don't really care about the pearls being retired. Why having an event when you grab the reward the first day and you dont need to visit the place afterwards? If event is running you are supposed to play it, or ignore it and lose rewards with it too. It should have been like this from the start just Cryptic's unawareness caused you were able to get with it until now. You aren't losing anything anyway, if you have 1000 pearls stored for this year's starship it means you will be getting 5 spec points and quite cheaply. You get 1 every 5 days spent flying around, but how much time you spent doing it? 5 minutes, or 10? Even if I count 10 minutes per day it is only 50 minutes for one spec point and right now that is way faster than any other way to gain spec points in the game. I actually feel kind of jealous I didn't save any pearls.

Now for the second part, I do not really understand why is this happening. I don't mind if you are able to get the ship only one year but then please allow us to get the ships also on characters that weren't existing at the time the event ran. Make it a C-store account unlock like you did it with the Ambassador class during the giveaway or put a vendor on Risa with those ships for our alts if you can't add non-faction ships to C-store.

    Ok, question about existing "projects"

I've got my Risian cruiser about 1/3 payed off...and of course have my corvette.

SO your saying I can continue the project with the "new" cueency.. ok.. But the ship is going to be retired... this begs some other questions.

I'd actually like a little bit more understanding on just what is meant by retired? I don't quite think it means its going go poof from my ship list but I could be wrong.

If it going to be retired, does this mean there is a replacement?

If there is a replacement for the Risian Cruiser and Corvette.. will we be able to trade in our existing ships for the newer ones?

Or will we receive any sort of credit towards the possible replacements ship if we all ready own the possibly older versions?

While I realize that normally if a special project of any kind is cancelled..that is it.. "poof" anything contributed to it is non refundable the studio could maybe, possible, change this? There is time before the event *lifts eye brows*

I did not get to spend time last year in game during the run of the summer event, and it is my favorite of the seasonal events in STO. Managed to get my KDF board though. Was pleased to see Gorn happily swarming about on long boards and having a great time doing it.

New dance emote this year? I do hope your motion capture. Its cheap to do these days. Two camera's and a software package. Please to sync dance emotes to a 4/4 tempo as it the most common tempo in popular music. You've got a perfectly good female samba dance emote, the male samba is NOT the same please go do a google search for cry'n out load you guys and gals! *sigh*) For all I know there might even be motion capture libraries out there by now. Go check out the dance animations in 2nd life that folks have done. Might be worth the time. We do like our STO to look right.

    Nope, not that.

EDIT: just to add clarification, this is unrelated to the solution down the road regarding XP.

Down the road..... Cryptic's way, 1st remove things then after a long time they hope we forgot how bad the nerved it (about 80%) and then give 5 % back and say they fixed it.

Loss of ships. What a nice present for all those who bothered to make a DR. And what a way to welcome any new players to the game. Can't have them having a free ship can we, they might not shell out $30 for a cruiser/escort.

Thank you Sammie, that is exactly my point. As a new(ish) player I am still trying to save up for more than one decent Zen ship. I was very much looking forward to having some variety in ships to fly in the mean time. That doesn't even factor in how I just like playing events and earning things and really wanted to be able to get some of the fun stuff from previous years. Having access to a large variety means I could make new characters to fit different concepts.

I get changing up the currency each year. I know it makes people unhappy, but I get it. Retiring the previous rewards because they're "exclusive" (and if I really wanted them I should have started playing years ago) just saddens me. If the ships weren't all that great, then what does it hurt if we still want to be able to collect them?

It was not just the lag. To me it was not a really 'fun' minigame it also dragged on thanks to how long each round was and how you had to do it 3 times a day.

Heh, 3 times a day...I don't think you'd believe how much time I was spending on it. I got so many free upgrades out of that minigame--I'd have to estimate it at something like 25-30 Omega upgrades or maybe even more. It's one of the few times I have done REALLY serious powergrinding. But I also developed a very quick reaction time over the course of the event, so with the kinds of scores I was getting, I was reaping a pretty nice amount of slivers and rarer particles for what I did.

Is there a word in the english language that means both "god dammit!!!" and "yay!" at the same time?

I think the word is Star. Add a wars or trek to the end and you seem to get that double feeling. :D

While you are asking for clarification on this issue, can you also possibly help ask the devs to alleviate concerns about the retirement of of the ships for any new character that was created since the end of the last summer event?

I have 1 non delta recruit alt and 3 delta recruit alts that have not gotten either the Risian Corvette or the Risian Luxury Cruiseliner ships. Unlike most people who probably wished to keep their stockpile to get the new ship on day one, I do not do that.

I was hoping to be able to beam down on day one, slot the project, run the floater course on those 4 characters, get one of the ships that I unlocked the discount for, wait 20 hours and then do the other ship on the characters. I'd like to be able to get them since I like being able to collect ships that I have spent time playing the event for.

Waiting for a reply on that - I have 41 toons, 21 are new Delta Recruits that would like the ships I had previously earnt.

The emotes though? Awwwwww, c'mon...laughing my TRIBBLE off about how silly those are is probably the only thing balancing how ticked off I am about the rest. If not for that, well, yeah...er...I probably wouldn't be able to post right now. ;)

I'm trading my leftover pearls (if any) in for spec points/xp... no contest. That part of the announcement I am actively pleased with. If they'd simply become useless, I would have just scrapped em and freed up space in my overflowing bank... which would also please me. :)

    - but I'll just trade them in for Specialization points instead.

If only I could do that.

The scaling from 50-60 is TRIBBLE, and thus I don't have a level 60 char yet.

Unless I buckle down and grind, which is a horribly boring way to play, I won't hit 60 before this expires, and I'm SoL.

Hell, I don't even have a Risian ship on any character due to aforementioned personal circumstances, what is my reward for logging in as much as I could for prior events?

    Emotes?

RnD materials that I could get elsewhere and will get anyway just from playing?

    I feel cheated.

Cryptic doesn't plan ahead very well, so we aren't allowed to either.

Instead of acknowledging people stockpiled their Lohlunat Pearls because they were clever and planned ahead -- instead of asking why they did this, they go through the typical Cryptic approach of not caring why they do it, just as long as a stop is put to it.

It's great we're getting some form of compensation, but if I wanted to grind for compensation instead of the thing I was grinding for (or something like it next year), I would have liked to have that in the fine print.

Yes, it's your game, Cryptic. Yes, you are allowed to do pretty much whatever you want to.

But it doesn't mean you should do something this, because really it just kills my desire to invest in the long-term. If I don't feel like investing in the long-term, I stop playing as much in the short-term.

Stop punishing us for your team's poor sense of foresight.

Of course it was intended! You just need to look at the ship consoles to see that - they form a set!!

First intelligent thing you've posted in this thread. You've promised much but everything in the web post contradicts you. It says that we cannot slot the older projects.

Now, I have a question about the Ship Emotes:
What's the point of having them when Sector Space maps are so 'empty' and there's very few people around to use them with?

Just because they formed a set, does not mean that it was always intended. Set items can always be brought into a store.

I have not promised anything only commented on things as I read them (without insulting others I might add!)... please don't throw insults around because they may differ to your own views or perspective on the matter.

There is no joy left in this game.

The game is being run by the number crunchers not by anyone who actually plays the game for enjoyment. They've basically fallen into this trap:

Metrics rule the day and if anyone actually has a good time in the process that's an unexpected side-effect.

Meh. Goes back into the 'fun' thing. I'm sitting on about 50 mining claims and I think I have enough characters to get rid of them all in five days. Why I don't? It is not fun.

Also this reminds me of just about the biggest reason why I disliked the event. It was pure padding. You make an easy minigame and you put an insanely good prize at the end of it. I don't have numbers and I won't even say this is right but I feel in my gut that if someone looked I would wager during the omega event the player count ingame was at the highest it has ever been for that year.

    ...

    So, more goal-post moving?

I understand the reasons, but I do not appreciate the inconvenience. I intentionally put in the time last year so I would have more breathing room this year. Furthermore, I am dubious about the addition of _more_ 'ui trash' popping up all over the place breaking the 'immersion' of commanding a starship in space in a star trek universe.

Will there atleast be any addressing of the problem we had with the Anniversary ship where you were unable to get a replacement ship(box) if you opened one and leveled it up to obtained the Starship Mastery Trait and then discharged it to free up shipyard room?

I wanted to get the Samsar's trait on many of my characters, but I could not justify it perma-consuming a ship slot in the event I would possibly want the ship at a later date. This wasn't a problem with the Sarr Theln; you could acquire as many 'boxes' as you liked. (Most of my characters have a boxed version of each event ship for the chance I may wish to use them in the future.)

You do realize those people who did "more grind" last year, will just don't bother this year ... because all the "additional Grind" was / will be worthless !?

So instead of having a blast, playing the Summer Event on ~5 Toons like last year ... I'm just going to do my "mandatory" 3min of "Flying High" & move on ... if they wanted me to play less during Summer, they certainly did a great job ....

Wow what a load of TRIBBLE. People came up with a way to use intelligence and patience to minimize the grind, and we can't have that now can we? Whats next, taking away old gear away if we've been using it for too long, 'recalled for maintenance' or something? Total BS.

    Yup totally agree.

Event after event after event only grind and farm work.
I see no reason to play this game any longer, outdated, buggy, glitchy, laggy, farmy, grindy, no fun, nerfy, unbalanced and the list goes on and on. We never catch a break and why the long farm on these events, why make us work for weeks to get something for free that actually ain't free nor good. Yes, I know people will say you don't have to do it but still why the long farm? It just doesn't make sense, don't they realize people have a life and can't be on STO every single day. I don't mind doing a little bit of effort sure but this just make people more and more hate this game.

Besides it's summer, most people go on holiday like you say, make the farming for this ship only take a week in total not a month or something!

But like always the community gets ignored and eventually PWE just thinks of the income.

completely agree... I'll grind long enough to get the required number of whatchamacallits to get what ever it is we might get... after that, no need to be there anymore... I'll go grind my rich dil claims on each character again...
