- More ways to use our bridge officers, such as boff storylines, more boff-enabled zones, boff outfit slots.
- More ways to use and manipulate our ship interiors.
- Exploration sectors revamp
- Persistent world elements where the stuff you do affects the world/story for everyone, not just you.
Also, I'd like to see:
- Make T5U ships like the Odyssey into actual T6.
- A new feature episode once per month
Zinc: The universe of Star Trek Online is shaped and changed by the actions of the players...expect to see new planets and races discovered that were unknown the last time you logged in."
Ground combat revamp - Other shooters I play are way more satisfying, sto feels like a chore in comparison.
There're lots of things that come under the aegis of this worthwhile idea, like the idea of Colony Invasion having multiple random maps to choose from as well as randomized OPFOR. Another is mechanics-related: applying the kit/module logic to weapons and their mods... because there's no way the concept behind the Picatinny rail wouldn't have survived into the 25th century. Or, for that matter, mated weapons (most usually represented by underbarrel grenade launchers).
Just rip the whole thing out and put in a cover shooter.
As long as we're wishing, I for one would be impressed if they could successfully transplant the relevant mechanics from Sleeping Dogs...
1) A total U-turn on stats changes from delta rising in Normal & Advanced Queues (seriously, I havent been able to complete an advanced Queue properly since the changes...I cant enjoy the content anymore because of this) - And no I do not mean a complete roll back of content, I just mean a stats roll back on Mobs in space.
Elite difficulty can stay unchanged as it is to keep the DPS lovers happy but there are some of us who simply dont have the money IRL or in game to upgrade our gear to that level and it alienates a large portion of the community like it or not.
2) bring back the old Dill rewards pre-delta (again another thing which ruined how much I enjoy the game).
3) Gamma quadrant - Though we probably wont see this till 2016 at the earliest.
4) NO MORE GRINDING AND NO MORE PATROL MISSIONS IN THE MISSION LOG..... seriously that was extremely lazy doing that and I found it incredibly boring especially considering the lack of EXP you get from missions genuinely. Cryptic could of made plenty more fully voice acted missions from doing this but instead they forced us to patrol.... honestly... JUST NO.
5) New rep system; Vaadwaur?
6) Learn more about whats going on in andromeda....seriously this has been bugging me for ages ever since I did that mission with worf when you go through the gateway.
Thats about it, ill add more if i can think of anything.
Continue adding diverse side mission/dailies in Sector Space. Much like the revamp to DSEs where different versions of DSEs pop up. Adding in cycling missions that are in the flavor of the Sh'mar and Ahlena Mission.
With Sector Space getting a Revamp and Space feeling bigger and more immersive. More random events in the tradition of the Sh'mar would be a welcomed sight in Sector Space. These will definitely add to the sense of 'exploration' that we saw in the shows.
"After a time, you may find that having is not so pleasing a thing after all as wanting. It is not logical, but it is often true. Except for a T5 Connie. That would be f*%#ing awesome." - Mr. Spock
I'd like to see the Gateway finally have functionality so I could finish my DOFF assignments away from home. I love the idea that I can see my characters with my Tablet but it's useless other than as a simple picture ..
Id also like to see the gateway updated and revamped, its a great thing, utilise it.
Would also like to see allot of bug fixes in the game, the content is great, just stabalise it and sort the bugs.
"If this will be our end, then I will have them make SUCH an end as to be worthy of rememberance! Out of torpedos you say?! Find me the ferengi!".
An idea for Foundry authors that wish to use them.. Legacy NPCs from the various ST series and movies (CBS-approved designs of course) and/or Historical NPCs for time-travel adventures.
If I may contribute to this, I'd like to suggest something which I have been reading since the Beta:
Please make Torpedos the main weapon again.
Maybe Torpedo Boats won't work like now anymore but when watching Star Trek, I noticed that Photon Torpedos were treated like the main damage dealer, regardless if enemy still had shields or not. (Galaxy Class might be an exception here with "dat" Phaserarray).
I also like many of the suggestions listed in the first post, though I am not so sure if Trinity or "Disabling DOFFs/Boff traits" and whaterver + setting gear to XIV make PvP more attractive. But I am not a main PvP Player so please ignore it if it's not true.
Personally, I'd like it if the Dilithium refinement was upped from 8k to at least 10k.
I'm trying to craft my gear (as it appears to best way to do it in this game), and the Dilithum costs are insane. Upgrading one item to Mk XII (from Mk II) costs something like 50,000 Dilithium, thats insane. Its hard enough to gather that much, but then I have to spend an entire WEEK refining the damn stuff, 8k at a time.
Honestly there should be NO limit (we're playing the damn game aren't we??) on it, but if you MUST have a limit, at least increase it a bit.
What about having more control on what your Boffs do? Like telling them to crouch or activate powers and updating the modes you can put them in like :
stop, aim, focus on firing continuously, crouch(again), heal(for sci boffs), fabricate(for engy boffs), buff/shoot grenades(tac).
I think that the future of ground is in being able to have your boffs be able to do more than they do now and will make it very interesting. Using several of the same boffs(romulan/reman, borg,) will add bonuses like sets. I just think that would be really cool.

The ground boff sisplay has 2 modes, one which shows the boff powers, left clicking on a power tells the boff to use that, right clicking on that power disables it, so you can tell a tac boff NOT to use lunge if you want them to hold position and provide supporting fire, or forc e an eng boff to deploy turrets/mortars for ambushing a roaming mob. Adding 2 small buttons next to the existing 4, for crouch and aim would be a vast improvement.
You already have the power to individually place boffs for 'door breach' style tactics, stand hyere and here be ready to shoot when the mob opens the door and walks through, etc., it's just most people don't seem to use these or perhaps even know they can.

True, but more kitties can't hurt, huh? We could have longhaired cat pets, and a full range of hairstyles for Caitians and Ferasans, more fur patterns and fur lengths for them, "boots" that are digitigrade feet, three-breasted Nimbosian catpeople, and maybe even slick-skins with tails and ears like not-Kirk slept with in JJTrek. What would it hurt? They can shut up and take my money, all they have to do is build it

Here's a list of improvements that I've compiled over the past 3 years on STO.
#1: cut down on the dilithium cost of everything, 10% would be optimal. The amount of Reputation gear that requires dilithium and fleet projects is, at current, enormous. If you want to get a ground set for it's thematics or use, that's 45,000. Now, if you're running multiple characters, you can cut that cost down significantly... but, that means you're going to be doing the same for each character. Why is this bad? Repetition is bad. Space weapon sets are another 45k, and there are at current how many reputations? Space equipment sets are 97,500, which is an incredible amount on it's own. Reduce it, really, there will be NO harm done by doing so.
#2: do something to PvP. Remove it, kill it, improve it's balance by disallowing T6 Intel/Pilot/Command abilities.. in short: DO. SOMETHING. I have several well set up post-New Romulus ships, with a few new additions, and upon entering a warzone the first cruiser to enter range is dumping BFAW, of which I routinely cannot survive against. This one also leads me to #3:
#3: the Romulan Embassy plasma damage proc console. This almost solely gives cruisers (and the VERY FEW others that do run beams) a monopoly on damage. Right now, that console is the single most significant problem being encountered in STO, and since almost all cruisers have 4/4 weapon slots, ie: the perfect setup for dumping BFAW with 3.6k damage procs constantly, it leaves few other alternatives for causing significant, meaningful DPS. Return it's stats to what it was, or give it the original stats with a 5% boost to bring it's damage to approximately -10% below escorts running full cannon setups. 1 console should not literally break the game, people. You screwed up Cryptic, admit it, and FIX it.
#4: redo the 'crafting system'. It's little more than an exercise in clicking a few times, assembling components, and waiting for your result. Adding dilithium as a cost to some of those components is less of a time sink and more of a 'hey, what else can we do to slow the dilithium grind/cripple Zen buyers? ...OH I KNOW! Let's do THIS!" Remove the dilithium cost, there are more than enough dilithium sinks in game to slow progress to a manageable, re: ACCEPTABLE, level.
#5: bring back or recreate the Explore Cluster missions for the Feds, create something equally as good for KDF. Do the same for the Romulans too, as their content is considerably limited.. OR allow them to do what the Feds and KDF side can. Those were nice, mostly fun breaks from the daily grind, adding some expertise and random items for kicks, and if you completed a few of them, a small but respectable chunk of dilithium ore. That loss is a shame.
#6: balance the equipment. I am a set & unique item collector, so I have nearly everything up to the Dyson Sphere, excluding the TR-116 and similarly ancient items of which I wasn't present for. Technically speaking, the old Borg, Tholian, and Romulan Rep equipment sets should still be viable in most areas, considering how much time, EC, and dilithium went into getting them, right? Well, not with the Iconian Resistance space & ground sets! Sure, they have a few minor flaws, but on the whole they make the old KHG vs. Borg vs. MACO vs. Omega sets completely and literally outdated. Either give the old ones SLIGHT, and by SLIGHT I mean +5%, increases, OR reduce the Iconian set capabilities by -10% to compensate for the ridiculous amount of power they grant.
#7: improve Science Bridge Officer slot abilities. Science abilities have been, since I began playing, downgraded numerous times, which is an absolutely ridiculous pox. It used to be that one could do a decent amount of damage with Tyken's Rift, Gravity Well, Tractor Beam Repulsors, Charged Particle Burst, Photonic Shockwave, and have multiple forms of utility with Tractor Beam, Tachyon Beam, Siphon Energy, Placate, yet their effectiveness has so heavily degraded that it takes spec'ing in with Captain skills and numerous consoles to stay, literally, afloat.
Ahhh.. now that I feel slightly less IRRITATED, allow me to vent everything with THIS.
#8: improve some of the previous Zen store ships, particularly their unique equipment, consoles, and/or special abilities. Now, you're going to read this and go 'why bother? they're all outdated now because T6 ships hurrdurr'. Older should not mean completely outdated, nor (near completely) ignored. Cryptic member(s) have lied, overlooked, and underlooked numerous Zen store ships after their introduction and subsequent buying, with few of them actually being fixed. I'll point out some debacles here, just for completionist's sake:
#8a: the Galaxy-X. I may think the ship itself is a bit ugly, yet a large number of persons bought it for both it's icon status, ability to slot the Fed cloaking console, and the SPL.. so why is the SPL little more than a slightly more powerful Dual Beam Bank, and why does it STILL miss 20% of the time? It's supposed to be a nasty, powerful weapon for a Federation ship, yet the Spinal Phaser Lance is a colossal JOKE. Bump it's accuracy up by +10%, damage by +30%, and it will once more be viable as a powerful addition that it should have been in the first place.
#8b: the Tactical Escort Retrofit and the Ning'Tao Bird of Prey. The Quad Phaser & Disruptor cannons with 3x [Dmg] modifiers on what should have been the most powerful cannons at the time Starfleet created them, with only a 5% increase on damage over a Dual Heavy Cannon, and STILL do not apply the -10 Engine Power increase to their damage? Let me be clear: they are still a disgrace. What, exactly, has been the problem with improving them? Laziness? That tired old 'but game balance' argumentative dismissal? I would much prefer a REASON instead of an EXCUSE. At this point there are some very, very easy fixes, so I will list them: a +10% flat damage boost, an [Acc} modifier, either a [CrtH] or [CrtD] modifier, and an additional +5% penetration from the -10 Engine Power cost. THOSE would make them much viable, AND sell the ship, so why has it been this incredibly hard to get an actual FIX for what should have been a simple problem?
#8c: the 1,000 Day Veteran Ships, eg: Chimera Heavy Destroyer, Peghqu' Heavy Destroyer, and Daeisnos Heavy Destroyer. Despite how hard these ships were lauded as 'you guys need something amazing for your dedication to this game, so, please, have THIS!'.. they fell completely flat. I've completed, at the minimum, 5,000 STF's, so when these ships were introduced I met a good number of people using them. However, I heard next to nothing worthwhile about them. Most described the veteran ships as: 'little more than an escort with a couple minor innovations'. Their abilities could stand to be improved a decent amount, take advantage of Cruiser commands, and who knows, something else that would make them more appreciated.
#8d: the D'Deridex. As Star Trek canon lore serves me, this extremely iconic warbird was a science ship, not a Fed-like engineering cruiser. Like many, I started a Romulan simply to fly one of these icons, yet when I reached the level to acquire and pilot it, but like many others I was very disappointed finding it was nothing more than a palette swapped copy of a Fed cruiser. I had the Zen available to purchase the D'ridthau, but no, it was just another cruiser, only with Singularity abilities. Another screwup that could have been avoided or somewhat easily changed after the fact that it didn't match what it was supposed to be, and could still be changed to reflect it's proper canon.
Bring back Diplomacy (i.e. the reason for/perks of it). We get a uniform and diplomatic immunity and extra transwarps, sure. But I want the First Contact (and other diplomatic) missions back, and not just dropping off X number of Y commodity. I was fortunate enough to actually do a FC mission before it was nerfed out of the game and it was FUN! You had to actually read the dialog, pay attention, be careful of your choices, and get it right, not just rapid-fire the F key and get back to shooting.
Someone somewhere put some effort into that system and it was well worth it IMHO.
Star Trek isn't just about combat. Maybe for the Klinks and Rommies, but not Starfleet. Exploration and diplomacy, bring it back!
It was that way when I first started playing and it was a wonderful feature of the game (exploration clusters and diplomacy missions).
This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.
looking back on 2014 we've had a great year. Sure there both ups and downs but I still feel that the good outweighed the bad. 2014 was a year in which Cryptic made some difficult but much needed changes to STO. Many systems were overhauled or simply redone and the transition hasn't been easy sometimes even painful. Many new systems were added as well to make the overall experience much more flexible and smoother. This resulted in a lack of content added to the game and even Delta Rising was rather heavy on the systems update side of things. The redone crafting system is far from perfect and still needs work. Many player including myself have complained about this. However seeing it along side the the gear upgrade system it's overall better than expected yet still not what it at best could have been.
Overall though we been given the much requested access to the delta quadrant and most systems have been improved to provide a much smoother experience while playing. I look back at 2014 as a year in which some much needed hard work has been done by cryptic so at is fifth anniversary in 2015 a fresh start can be made.
Looking ahead to 2015 I see the opportunity for a fresh start and forget last years drama. What do we as players want to see happening in STO during 2015?
I Will try to keep this first post up to date whit the suggestions made in this thread. Please keep it civil and be as constructive in your criticism (if any) as you can be. It will increase your chances to make it into the OP.
Ill start by making my own suggestion for 2015 feel free to add below.
Frequently Made Requests are: PvP and PvE power split. This would benefit both styles of play.
PvP can then have everything balanced properly. This would then introduce an interesting and competitive meta. To keep an interesting and competitive meta going requires constant maintenance but will benefit the game in the long run.
In PvE science powers can be boosted and made viable again. Essentially as a science captain I need to be able to do my DPS without firing my weapons. That means that firing off science powers is the main way i contribute to the group. Right now its my weapon power while trowing out the occasional gravity well so we can all shoot fish in a barrel. These powers should in PvE be so harsh they make up my lack of DPS though weapons fire. However when you do that it screws up PvP. Not to mention that some of these powers can even be used by escorts who really don't need them. Get rid og T5-U. I would counter this whit retroactively fit hybrid-specialization boff seats on T5-U so that once a trait is unlocked whit a T6 there is no difference flying T5-U compared to T6. Give us proper trinity. We need to be able to control thread so that playing the roles of tank/healer/DPS is possible. That would allow more interesting engagements and unique boss battles. better craftingallow us to actually set rarities. set modifiers and change them in existing gear. if you want a slots machine that dispenses random gear in exchange for dilitium fine the game need some dilitium sink but don't pretend its a crafting system. Whit what you have in place now you can pull out the component cost to have it just cost dilithium, place it on a newly created ferengenar social zone and call it gambling.... We want more content and less dilitium. You tuned the game into a dilithium store without interesting ways to gather it. we all realize there need to be dilitium sinks in the game but some systems like crafting and upgrading really don't need it. to speed up fine that's a proper dilitium sink but the components and upgrades themselves don't need to cost dilithium at all.
We need content to play and have fun beating it. in the beginning of the game in spite of all the bugs and problems the game had you manged to get out a featured series every 3 month that gave us a new mission for 5 weeks in a row. Just one of these features series is comparable to all of the actual story content in DR. what happened?
Cryptic I know you can do this you because you did it before please return to this now that all the fixes are in place. You do realize that rep systems/crafting/upgrading/dill and fleet stores are reward systems? They are not the game! They are there to reward you for playing the game. We really like you're game and want to play and support it but last year you gave us only reward dispensers instead of content. Just give us something to keep us busy whit. If the game is just fun and interesting to play it matters a whole lot less if we can actually buy stuff. You could still sell vanity items as a dilithium sink.
Another problem is that the upgrade system. It makes the game far to rigid. you invest so much in that one MK14 set that you will not try out other gear that you get at MK12 the gap and the investment needed to close it is just to big. So essentially once you have a set you are happy whit you grind the dil to upgrade to MK14 gold and nothing new that drops comes in rep/fleet/whatever other store will ever be interesting ever again. As a result of the upgrade system no reward can be added to the game from here on to be worthwhile getting for anything but vanity reasons....(harsh but true realization i had while typing this)
the fix is obvious though increase the MK of gear purchasable in all stores (rep/fleet/etc.) and rep project gear into their MK14 versions and make upgrading for MK really cheap so that long time players don't feel like they just majorly got short end of the stick. upgrading for mk should just be fun and easy. a way for your old gear to grow whit you not a punishing pain that lock you out of trying other builds.
Other Requests: Fix crafting.
Allow us to predetermine the rarity we'll get even if that comes at an increased component cost.
Let us change modifiers on existing items.
Let us set modifiers when crafting new items even if it takes special component to do so.
Please remove dilithium from crafting. It's like working to make it and than still paying to buy it. plus it crept in to many systems already.
it's not just me
The new Boff system on tribble is absolutely amazing but and it feels like nitpicking here but remove the dilithum cost from crafting the pads. It's practically noting anyway just make it actually noting and spare yourselves the backlash its already creating.
New outfits
nice one. other out fits we may want to see comming?
More content and new missions by that we mean actual missions not patrol missions.
I tend to agree now that most of the updated systems are in place it's time for a new featured series.
Boffs
Factions
Klingon (and Romulan) faction(s) should be fleshed out more. mainly by adding faction specific content and ships.
lowered overall zen and dilithium costs - less grinding
Dilitium seem to have crept into literally everything lately we can only refine 8000 a day. that cap does not need increasing but some systems like crafting really don't need it. speeding up for dil ok but to pay for the components themselfs no way...
Bugg fixes
ill keep adding to this list when they come up
3 man missions
New ships
(combat) pets
Better PvP
like it not going to come up
I suggest making brackets for each ship tier and borderlands for each. In my experience communities can self organize PvP as long as they are given proper tools.
this has been true for the pokemon comunity just look here: http://www.smogon.com/
all gamers can be defined one or as a mix of 3 Psychographic profiles Timmy, Johnny and Spike
these Psychographic profiles are used by Mark Rosewater the lead designer for Magic the Gathering. this is what Mark Rosewater says about spikes:
"Spike is the competitive player. Spike plays to win. Spike enjoys winning. To accomplish this, Spike will play whatever the best deck is. Spike will copy decks off the Internet. Spike will borrow other players' decks. To Spike, the thrill of Magic is the adrenaline rush of competition. Spike enjoys the stimulation of outplaying the opponent and the glory of victory."
In MMO terms that means spike is a stereotypical PvP player that enjoys testing his skills against other players to see how they themselves match up. for a game to be successful you need to cater to these people. in some cases by nerving some powers in PvP only.
to fix PvP there is nothing to it other than Identifying the community leaders talking to them and tweak all the powers to create a balanced meta....
Foundry
Improved Ground game
Improved Fleet systems
Captain skills overhaul
Space PvE
PvE Systems and More interesting group play
we need to get some abilities that allow for people to take up Tank and healing roles. that at the very least means control over the aggro we generate. by taunts, aggro-wipes(feign death: hunter WoW), skill that allow tanks to generate increased amount of aggro, skills that let DPS and healers generate less aggro.
when aggro becomes controllable and reasonably predictable more interesting boss-fights can be scripted requiring decent group coordination. the current lack of this leads to situation that favors groups of 5 DPS guys that need to spit op properly and do their own solo part as the best that this game has to offer as coordinated group play... just look at the new Borg Disconnected mission its a perfect example.
Misc
lost a lot of very expensive weaponry due to upgrading with the result being an undesirable proc. also crafting mk ii versions trying to farm desired proc, damn near impossible, regardless of resources or r&d lvl. any way of choosing proc regarless of cost (in r&d and upgrade system) is ok in my book. i saw alot of great ideas in the thread "random proc crafting is horribly inefficient" i recommend everything but the current system be considered. maybe we have a fire and cook hot dogs over old system.
I have only 3 issues with this game atm but those are nearly game breaking for me:
1) Empty queues. I like to pug but only puggable content atm that is worth something is ground elites so STO for me is all about ground combat. Space just not worth it cuz
I can't get salvage in advanced and nobody's playing elites. The main reason liked this game cuz of it's puggability in the first place.
2) Spec points. Getting them is the biggest issue for me. I can accept it as a long term goal while playing one toon but i have 15. Spec points really should be acct-wide.
3) Crazy high upgrade costs. Upgrading everything to epic even with experimental tech upgrades feels like building fleet starbase solo. I'm slowly getting there but honstly im getting bored of it and there is nothing left to do for me. Thats after 2 weeks after my return to the game (I took a break a few weeks after DR faliure).
Game is in a very strange state atm. On one hand it was made as a very casual friendly game but on the other hand playing casually 1-2 hours 3-4 days a week will get you nowhere so you either doing some super hardcore grind or you are doomed to be undergeared till the end of time. Now you may say that i don't need all-epic gear and all the spec points to enjoy the game but if so then what is the reason for me to play? These are the only goals i have atm and these goals are barely reachable. Even if i pull this on one toon doing it again on an alt would be a suicide.

I have one answer for this.

Someone somewhere put some effort into that system and it was well worth it IMHO.
Star Trek isn't just about combat. Maybe for the Klinks and Rommies, but not Starfleet. Exploration and diplomacy, bring it back!
It was that way when I first started playing and it was a wonderful feature of the game (exploration clusters and diplomacy missions).
lost a lot of very expensive weaponry due to upgrading with the result being an undesirable proc. also crafting mk ii versions trying to farm desired proc, damn near impossible, regardless of resources or r&d lvl. any way of choosing proc regarless of cost (in r&d and upgrade system) is ok in my book. i saw alot of great ideas in the thread "random proc crafting is horribly inefficient" i recommend everything but the current system be considered. maybe we have a fire and cook hot dogs over old system.
Dont forget a new reputation too!
Please GECKO make it happen!
Id also like a shrunk playerbase but i suppose that will be achieved spontaneously in 2015
1) Empty queues.
Sorry for my bad english
