I don't think this sounds like a good idea. I am at least glad there is a way to avoid using it.
The loadout/tray issues have finally been reduced to a manageable level. Releasing this and the new bridge officer system is just asking to break everything again. Why? Just why. Please stop.
I unbox a ship in Sector space. I want to equip it, so I use the change in space feature. My new ship comes with the gear I had on my old ship. If I remove it, it'll end up in the inventory, instead of back where I wanted this to be.
There is a workaround around this like you said, but I don't wish to be forced to use this workaround. This is a completely unnecessary change for me. So I am not against this, I'd just like to have an opt-out. Because although I will not deny other people to use this, I don't wish to use this.
This was exactly my earlier point. That's my main problem with this too, and why I want an opt-out as well

I agree. I don't want or need new bridge officer systems. I don't need to learn new power icons, the old ones are fine. I don't want to use experience points to train BO's. EC works fine. Just add the ability to train intel and command if that's what you want to do. Dev's come on, just let sto rest for a while. Fix bugs, but slow down on the new Content/Features for a little bit. I realize your looking to release things for STO's 5th anniversary, but why all this? Just release a few story missions, and a ship if that's what you want. The game needs a serious break from new features. Missions don't effect it as bad.
Switching ships will get a whole lot easier! In our continuing effort to work on quality-of-life improvements for Star Trek Online, we are adding a new system for simple ship transitions!
If you want to make the quality of life better for Admirals with all the new additions in-game give us another visible row in the tray for all the new abilities, we have no room for them in a 3 row tray, also an increase in skill points to go with the new level cap would be nice, to better fill out or skills tree. And the 8k dilithium cap was a struggle years ago, it's now a serious bottle neck with the new crafting system and all the additions to the fleet system over the years.
I'm Doing Pretty Good.......but i'll get over that
Switching ships will get a whole lot easier! In our continuing effort to work on quality-of-life improvements for Star Trek Online, we are adding a new system for simple ship transitions!...
No - it did NOT get easier - I trigered this 2 Times on Tribble, and it is nightmare:mad:
It messes with your old ship loadut, and it fills your inventory with standard items taken from new ship.
So I do not like it.
If you want to make really easy transition, then just put in option to copy loadouts from other ships on character - with items, power trays and active DOFFs - now that would be usefull.
As it is I'm spending more time setting up power trays on new ships than choosing and putting in equipment
Edit:
The new bridge oficer system looks promising - mainly because you can train your one or two Purple Tactical BOFF in all possible skills and then choose the best for given ship.
In our current system I need different BOFFs for my science ship, others for my dreadnought cruiser, others for my carrier... and so on.
In new system I will just choose their active skills - and done

I'll echo the "Opt out, please." request I've seen here.
A better QOL improvement would be to add Common Mk ∞ gear to the Replicator and have all ships come without gear. Then we wouldn't have to un-equip/Discard any of the Common stuff from our new ships, the Common gear we use as a stopgap would only need a single entry per type (replicated Common Mk ∞ damage-type could be based on faction), and we could do with our ships as we chose rather than having the ships do things to themselves that we may/may not desire.
Still, I'm fine with the current equip system that leaves important details like ship payload in my hands rather than automating things and leaving me to fix it anyway like the new system appears to.
With each passing day I wonder if I stepped into an alternate reality. The Cubs win the world series. Donald Trump is President. Britain leaves the EU. STO gets a dedicated PvP season. Engineers are "out of control" in STO.
With the current loadout record......Broken most of the time for some players
I have little faith in this one , Actually I see it causing problems
Removing the current gear on a new ship to the recycle bin with one click would be a neet useful feature ...not in my inventory !
I see this as a waste of dev time with little usefulness to the players
Too bad you didnt ask us if we wanted it...You know like a survey

I would like to opt out also. It was stated that the devs designed this feature to encourage people to use a more diverse variety of ships. This I think is the underlying proplem.
1. Ship costs are to high for newer or even some veteran players. I.E. actual pricing (actual money) and the dilithium sink they have recently become.
2. Cryptic's resiliance to bring our favorite ships to a true T6. Most have come to fly the iconic vessels into combat that brought them to Star Trek. People are content for now with the T5U they had to purchase but will see the difference in class when the Fleet T6 comes out. Further hurting buyer confidence.
If Cryptic truely eants to see players using a wider variety these two issues need to be adressed.
This may just be the worst use of staff yet.
This isn't like the artists who make our life difficult because you have to have them working on changes that no one wants, just because you can't justify having them sit on their hands waiting for the next art crunch. The people you wasted on this could have been fixing the bugs in the current system... like my randomly unactivating space doffs, my Xindi carrier that doesn't get a cool down bonus from ship mastery like everyone else gets, or ship loadouts that are hopelessly bugged if you do them on the ground.
Don't bother. If office politics locks you into this then make it something we have to sign up for, instead of something we have to opt out of. There is no chance this will work to anyone's satisfaction.
... When your business plan is about creating frustration that your players are supposed to buy their way past with OP gear or XP boosters etc., then it makes no sense to create this kind of frustration. Expect this to drive more people out of the game.
Except, after having read this entire thread, very few people are asking them to REMOVE this feature. Nearly everyone that isn't defending it (like you) is asking for the ability to turn it off for their own personal game play experience. If you like it, you'll still get to use it. If they add an Off switch, YOU won't be affected, because you don't have to use the button. The "target audience" won't be affected, because they probably won't know the button even exists.
Yes, you tried it once or twice on Tribble, and it currently works. For now. The Loadout system has become progressively more broken over time. I have four captains that *never* used the loadout system, and all of them are currently glitched. They have a high likelyhood that changing zones will unequip some or all of the gear on the ship. On one of them, I even tried the known potential workaround of stripping the ship bare, switching to space, equipping the ship, saving a loadout, exiting the game entirely, and then logging back in. And the next time I changed zones, it wiped out my setup and corrupted the loadout. Based on their current observable track record, I do not trust that this system WON'T break in the future, even if it's working now. And when it does, based on nearly every other bug that doesn't crash the servers or grant an advantage to players, there will be very little prioritization given to fixing it.
I'm not sure why the defenders are so apparently against Cryptic adding an Opt Out feature for this. If Cryptic adds such a feature, the people who want this won't be affected in a negative way - you'll still get this new feature. For those of us who don't trust it, and for those who currently *will* have to change how they equip new ships, adding the ability to switch this off gives us the OPTION to try not to be affected by it. And when someone does rage onto the forum because they triggered this new system without intending to, people will be able to say "Oh, yes, that's a game system. If you don't like it, here's how you turn it off."
For some reason, the ones defending this keep saying "It's easy to work around." The point is, I don't want to HAVE to work around it. I want the ability to disable it. For me. I'm not demanding they un-make it. They already spent time on it, that won't happen. I'm not demanding they deny it to anyone else. I'm *asking* them to give me the OPTION to disable a system I didn't ask for, don't need, and don't see any chance I'll ever intentionally use. If they added the ability to make it optional, the ones who like this system would lose *nothing.* There would be no extra steps for them.
The new system, as described in the blog, would add a lot of potential steps for me, since it would now be *mandatory* that I'd have to transition from whatever I'm doing to go visit a starbase and manually equip a new ship to keep the system from potentially messing up my current on *and* flooding my inventory with the default equipment. Which isn't even vendor trash, since it has a credit value of zero.
I don't want to get my science setup to go on my new tactical ship. I'll better use my mouse and brain.
Please make it only as a new button on new ship window or at least make a switch to turn it off forever. And another switch to turn off loadout system on my account.
not a bad idea, I wont be using it until a new faction comes out but its a nice idea for new players.
Everyone saying they want an option to opt out should read the very short article more carefully. You can opt out a number of different ways, the easiest being to just install one console before readying your new ship. Just dont set the new ship as your current until you have it set up how you want.
But that is unnecessary they should have a pop up asking if you want to transfer your existing build over makes more sense as you can then say yes or no. But Cryptic never think of the obvious

Oh dear. Please don't mess with anything related to the loadout system. Please don't. PLEEEAASE. This is going to mess up everything... again. I would have prefered a simple "Transfer all gear to my inventory" button instead of this automatic ship transition feature.
The ability to mark items in inventory as junk/trash/recycle.
This would simplify the process of selling unwanted items to a vendor or the replicator, no?
AND here is a second idea that ties to the previous:
The ability to lock items so they are NOT sold or show in the sell/recycle.
I know this would require a different thread and all, but I thought I'd mention it here just to point out something more useful than this "NEW FEATURE".
I don't want to buy a new ship and have gear loaded into it to have to change to other gear. I don't want to buy a cruiser and fit it with gear from my torp boat or my glass cannon escort for example.
This is the worse idea I ever heard. Because? Simple. The loadout system is still broken. Yes it's not fixed yet. I switched to a ship w/o a loadout the other day, when moving from esd to space or between sectors, sometimes skills are missing even after loading a loadout.
I've been leveling my alts and guess what? I zoned from sector space to Qo'nos with a saved loadout and most of my loadout went out of the ship, w/o engine or warp core, couldn't move. So I check it out, load my saved loadout and guess what? Can't move still. Had to warp to sector space, check loadout and go back to Qo'nos, then no problems this time. My loadout keep changing sometimes when going from ground to space or zoning between sector blocks.
So I wonder how broken and annoying it will be when it's released.
Please, consider letting us opt out of this "feature" (sounds more like a nightmare) and add a button like someone already suggested "New Ship" that would just do this transition instead of being forced on us.
The new ship cannot have had any items moved to it manually.
This feature will work either when readying the starship for the first time through the ship selector or when switching to the new ship for the first time in space.
pple read it all. it's going to be a mess and it's something I don't want.
Again Cryptic you implement something that majority don't want. And again you destroy the pleasure we had with the game.
WHO the hell is deciding this TRIBBLE features in your team ? is needed to be fired !
Not every player knows what's best for a ship, or finds it convenient to have to manually change every piece of a new ship's equipment before using it. This is a tool, it can help some people in some situations.
It's not about convenience. Yes, current ship transition is a process that takes quite some time but that is a GOOD Thing!
It forces you to think about what you put on your new ship and what playstyle you will be using.
SST discourages using your brain because it not only does the work for you, it also doesn't factor in the fact that a loadout on the new ship might not be as effective as it was on the previous one.
This feature caters heavily to the "Rainbow Force"-part of the player community and i think we all had more than enough of that already...
uh ...fellas, when u gonna code in the ships from the Detla Rising pack.....players bought that expecting prompt coding of fleet ships......still waitin....who gives a **** about some stupid ship change feature. Get it together guys......:(
I agree strongly that a more useful function is a one click option to simply remove all the common items on a new ship, and they should go into the overflow bag to keep them from mixing in with items in the inventory. This may be nice option to use on any ship in any status.
I also would prefer to have an account wide opt-IN not opt_OUT. This should not be implemented by default. And yes I understand there are ways to bypass the feature by readying the ship first, but there is no reason to force a player to a new and potentially unwanted process. Especially to an existing feature that is still buggy.
I've said it already in other threads, this system needs an opt out. At least a confirmation prompt when it would activate.
Otherwise, very annoying.
