Hmm. I'm intrigued by this. SURELY there's is some event or holiday somewhere in the world that can be celebrated in-game by an STF featuring Dancing Hippos?

Only if they wear pink tutu! :D
Wow. There is a new KDF Science ship. I'll be!

Well, meh. I would be off to do RL things now anyway, so I will just wish all present a happy New Year, oh, and a tip of the hat to pweadamanteus for keeping us informed. It's appreciated, honest, it is.

I'm not convinced it was them. I'm not sure they have the bandwidth in the entire country to do the sony hack. Of course it's possible they had people leave the country to do it, but the evidence the fbi has given the news seems really slim to me.

Yeah they just sent some teens to the local starbucks with laptops. And this is becoming an interesting topic, we should start another "time killer" thread.

The Devs on Forsaken World and Blacklight (who use arc and were down) now say they are up and running. These games have a much smaller payer base. Why is STO, and NW still down?

The evidence the FBI did give is circumstantial at best. Would NK be threatening war if they really did do it? Nothing adds up with this except the almighty Dictator of the United States declared on international television "North Korea did it!!!" If you were continually accused of something you did not do would you sit back quietly? I don't sympathize with North Korea but if they were responsible don't you think they'ed claim responsibility? If the world believes North Korea is responsible that is very bad because it make the country seem a lot more threatening then it actually is. either way NK win at this point eiter they are found innocent or become more menacing pick one.

I play Forsaken World and their east coast servers are down. They really need to get their act together and be more up to date with their information.

Ok pure speculation here, but if I was a "spoiled prince" of some 3rd world county, and your country made fun of me, I'd probably get pretty upset about it. Hell how many times have WE wanted to hack attack PWE? lol. And I thought the FBI tracked IP addresses back to the Korean region?

Last news I saw from the BBC said that NK wasn't responsible but a group of hackers all based in northern Europe, and the attack was possible because of cross server security flaws between the PSN servers and the Sony corporate servers.

And an ETA would be nice anytime now. I need to know if I should wait around before continuing with my new years plans to finish my dailies, or if it's a lost cause today.

No ETA yet. Network engineers are still working on it but they can't give us an update quite yet.

Well, I was thinking about taking advantage of the ship sale, if this goes on for much longer, I'll just have to wait for the next one.

That is, Cryptic will have to wait for my $$ 'til the next one.

Servers have been down for almost 2 hours. This is an exceptionally long time to have a server outage. How have the engineers not isolated the problem in 2 hours? Are you understaffed?

They never tracked any IP addresses (good hacks rarely leave that kind of evidence) they discovered algorithems that were "veagly similar" to ones used by NK over a decade ago.
Plus would it really bother you that much if a bunch of americans were making fools of themselves in a movie based around a failed assassination attempt of you KJU probably laughed and ran to China.

    It's dead Jim.

Ok, I had to post that, been waiting to post that for a while now.

Really sucks for it to go down now, but I do hope they can get the Borg assimilation virus purged from the servers ASAP.
