I believe talaxian's are bugged at the moment, as many of the " event/special " clothing has been for them.
The hats should work for other species ( SHOULD ).
Yeah, I still have no arms when wearing the TOS medical tunic... though that bug I quite like because it's awesome having floating hands haha.

Speaking of bugs, looks like the server is about **** itself again. Got through two of the daily races fine, third race lagged out like crazy. Logged off, try to log back on and the launcher is lagging as well. Don't be surprised if it crashes like Danica Patrick.
As Z3ndor99 said it *should* show up in Off Duty, under Head Category. Though it's not there on my Talaxian so I wouldn't be surprised if it's missing on other species too.
Yeah. It's not there for my KDF Trill. I ahve looked a few times and it doesn't show up at all.

I've also noticed that if I let up on my forward movement when I'm on the very edge of the track, I stop a lot more suddenly than in previous years. I can no longer count on being able to slide through a patch of snow in order to make a turn.
This is under the influence of the Winter Tribble, which should help control the slide better if I am not mistaken. People who are having trouble with the slide may not be using a Winter Tribble.
I'm sure that once I make the adjustment, I'll be winning by a more comfortable margin as in previous years.
That is, if I don't get tired of it all and go do something else.
For those having difficulty with the race. I hit the "B" key, run on the straightaways only, steer with my mouse and jump when sliding or coming to curves. But as others have noted there are many different ways to run the race.
I ground the heck outta this for the dyson ship before and survived, but this stupd race thing is making me crazy. Between lag throwing me halfway across the track and a relentless opponent that doesn't have traction problems... I'm so done with this. Grinding the race 3 times in a row per character was bad enough yesterday, but after 10 times today on one. As much as I want a t6, I'm done.

Definitely this, I only run the race in shooter mode, rpg mode just doesn't work for racing. I rarely jump or roll, usually only when I'm distracted.
My technique is flat out sprint and turn way before I need to, by the time the forward momentum has been cancelled out by the change in direction, my char drifts through and can carry on with out losing much speed.
I have caught up with and overtaken many players in the last two years and twice so far this time. And lets get this straight, I don't play the race hardcore, it's fun, usually got music playing and feeling pretty chilled while running.
Maybe the "secret" is relax, run around on a polished floor in your socks and get the idea of using the slipperiness of the surface to your advantage.
(I do have the boots and tribble, but don't use them, I'm a skater and enjoy the drifting.)

I made that decision last year and am glad I stuck with it. I will willingly do Tides of Ice on my two remaining viable toons, but no epohh tags or ships are worth those races. NEVER.

I'm going with the bunny hop method and short cuts where ever possible. It's risky but can produce very fast & smooth results.
I'm really sorry that some are not enjoying the daily race for the ship.
Before Cryptic changed it so that only one toon had to unlock the ship, I used to run it daily, on all my toons, (seven or eight).
It was just one of those daily things that would nag at me till I did them.
I eventually got pretty proficient at it. I guess it was all the practice.
I wish I could help those who are having trouble.
I find that for me, I try to align my toon so that he is sprinting in a straight line, whenever possible, and still stay within the required area.
When I need to, I simply jump to stop and aim his next sprint, (it takes some practice to do this at just the right angle), then sprint for as long as I can, then jump again. Rinse and repeat as they say.
This method works quite well for me, and as the race goes on, your reflexes get better and the distance between you and the NPC runner grows.
Try practicing this before you actually do the race, to get the hang of it.
I understand that some, because of bad connections and other reasons are going to have a hard time of it. I'm sorry, again, I wish I could run the race for you.
Maybe next year Cryptic can set up something where one player can gift a certain amount of these autograph thingies, or maybe let players "team up" if you will, so that the player who is better at it, can help out. I don't know, just thinking out loud here.

Yeah same, a few years back when they started doing it, I was TERRIBLE at the race. But after running it with 8 toons a day at the time I got much better at it and often found I was quite a distance ahead of the NPC. Determination pays off, just keep practising.

I am sorry that some people are not having fun with the race. Even when it was glitchy for me for the first few years (THANK GOD CRYPTIC FIXED IT) and it wasn't my machine that was the problem either I still had fun with the race. Like the previous posters said it takes practice, knowing when to slide into the curves. I have gotten so good at it that I RARELY lose the race.
I even did the Fast and the Furious race and got 1st place.
Yup I'm out. This race is freaking TRIBBLE. Why isn't there at least an alternative means to collect autographs? Sorry but it's not a single bit of fun to have to sit and wait for the race only to get two stupid epoch tickets to delete when I could be using what little time I get to game playing the effing game. I get maybe an hour a day during the week and sometimes a few more on the weekends, and this race is not how i want to waste it.
I mean it's obvious just from reading this thread that the race sucks. I don't want the thing handed to me but Jesus H Christ at least let me feel like I'm slowly dragging my old crippled TRIBBLE up the hill towards the goal.
This is the kinna thing that made me cancel my sub. Only reason I buy Zen anymore is when I find a Target silly enough to clearance the cards.
Meh, what is the purpose? A ship that will be played for a couple of weeks, until its decided that what I had is better. A costume, a console?
Just being here makes me happy?
Failed. Didn't bother with the rest. This has to be the most un-fun, pointless, haphazard grind I'm ever likely to see in an MMO. Obviously, you simply don't want people to get the new warp cores; should have just left them out entirely.
Thanks for living up to the usual expectations, Cryptic.
Can anyone tell me how I can play this game with all the Lags?
I try to do things in Winterwonderland and every few minutes "Server not responding" over 60 seconds or longer. Since 2 weeks Disconnects, "server not responding" and massive lags every few minutes. It doesn't matter what I do, or where my char is.
yup i seem to be having the same issue. really frustrating when you close to finishing tides of ice and you get booted off and don't finish. how am i suppose to get 5 wins to get the new gear if i can't finish?
Right, emp0kn0r you can only run one winter ship project at any given time, complete the outstanding project or cancel it ( if you cancel a ship project that has Q autographs slotted, you will loose them ).

The way some of the store content is gated just plain dumb.
The idea is to force people to play certain content but the obstacle can be overcome by just going afk for 10-15 mins once an hour exactly how much playing is going on?
And in that the wave rewards don't always drop especially the wave 10 one they whole thing is seriously messed up.
I get having access to the store tied to the accoldes but the bar is way too high especially when people have multiple characters.
Have the 2012 content gated behind an accolade that can be unlocked by completing the PvE race and defeating the lake snowman boss ONCE
Have the 2013 content gated behind an accolade that can be unlocked by completing the PvP race and doing the xmas invasion ONCE
And the 2014 content gated behind completing the Tides of Ice ONCE

Tribble is being brought down for maintenance to update it to build ST.46.20141123a.9
Winter Event:
It is now easier to gain completion credit for participating in Tide of Ice.
Items unlocked through completing Tide of Ice will now unlock for the entire account.
This will require only 1 character on an account to unlock all new Winter Event items through completing Tide of Ice.
Players will still need to spend the correct Winter Event currencies for each purchase on each character.
Updated ship discount functionality for the Breen Plesh Brek heavy frigate and Breen Chel Grett warship.
Players who had previously completed the projects to claim one of these ships should be able to unlock their account discount after they talk to Q, or upon acquiring another ship.
The Breen Sarr Theln Carrier now has Subsystem Targeting.
Adjusted the race flags for the Fast and the Flurious to better positions in the finish zone.
Resolved an issue which was causing some snowmen to spawn underground during Snowball Fight.
New Winter Event items which require completion of Tide of Ice are now labeled more clearly.
Greatly reduced the frequency of the VO for the Winter Epohh Researcher while in the gazebo.
Known Issues:
Hyper-Dual Refracting Tetryon Beam Banks do not gain their Epic mod upon reaching Epic quality.
The PvE queue Defend Rhlhho Station does not reward 10 Marks when failing in Advanced or Elite mode.
So apparently you will still need to complete Tides of Ice 10x on a character but it will now unlock for your entirre account which makes it alt friendly. Hopefully the end - boss for mission will get a HP boost she seems to die rather quickly atm.
Why can't I slot the Endothermic Induction Field module on the same kit with a Exothermic Induction Field module?

I suppose it's good that they're doing something about the "Tides of Ice" and its dependent unlocks, but there is no getting around it, this mission is bugged and needs to be fixed. It's not a question of "participation needs to be easier", it's a matter of actual active participation is not recognized.
Take a look at this picture. That is a picture of me not participating in the "Tides of Ice" event. Now, to you and me, that looks like someone crouching on the bridge, aiming "The Big One" at a bunch of snowborgs who are exploding into clouds of mist. And, to you and me, that might seem like participating in the event. But not to the game's code. Oh no.
