You do not need to be level 15 to upgrade, just 15 to create superior parts.
But given that superior parts upgrade will a rarity to get free you should save these until you are level 15 or high in the require R&D field and not wast them on upgrades that will be more commonly obtained.
Shelby is giving out goodies again. This is a first for me. I figured I would try to upgrade some old mk XI items from the reputation system to Mk XII rather than grind for new set of Mk XII gear. So I tried to work crafting magic on an assimilated regenerative shield array Mk XI. Once I got it into the upgrade crafting window, it would not let me load the superior shields tech upgrade thingy that Shelby gave me. I also then noticed the red text at the bottom of the screen saying that this item is fully upgraded. :mad: Are old Mk XI reputation items a dead end? I hope this is an oversight or glitch. The superior shields tech upgrade thingy is marked as an event item. Does this mean it will go away after the event and before Cryptic allows upgrades to Mk XI reputation gear, if ever?

what migh have happened. The exploit that the emergency fix was performed for has been done in true Cryptic fashion ie: half arsed.
Anyone who used the expliot was able to run the Materials mission again after the fix, but anyone who didn't use the exploit doesn't get another crack at the mission.
So anyone who was honest gets no benefits, while anyone who cheated gets to cheat a little bit more. Yeah that'll learn 'em :rolleyes:

The percentage of the increase on Epic pretty much fails. Just go to MK XIV and forget about Epic. The numbers were pretty crazy to try and get there for the outcome. In other words, Epic is an Epic Fail unless you have money to burn.
Congrats! you just waisted ec and dilithium for nothing. If you read the tribble notes you would know how absurd the cost is attached to upgrading items. Also this event is a sham. you get the reward once, not once daily and what you get is barely worth the time expendature. Surprise! Dilithium cost tacked on to each input, instead of a flat cost at the end. Wan't an epic, have fun spending all your earned dilithium trying to upgrade one bloody thing. Yep, this system is awesome!

This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.
I've already gotten the free upgrades, but the text says something about being able to buy them in the faction hubs. I have not been able to find any vendors that sell the basic upgrades. What am I missing?

Um, I was able to collect upgrade materials again last night, and all I did was put the first set into my bank. (And I don't have any other upgrade kits to stack them with.)
Did I use the exploit? That'd be cool. This would be my first I think.

That cant be the exploit, because I put the items in my bank on all 12 characters the first day, yet only 2 of them got the mission to get the things again. I can't think of anything that I did differently with those 2 characters than I did with the others to have caused this.
This is an MMO, not a Star Trek episode simulator. That would make for a terrible game.

Guys, don't get so stressed out about this. Sure, the amount of dilithium you have to pay is high. Remember at this point we don't actually get to take anything to Mark XIV epic. The highest that we can upgrade to at this point on HOLODECK is Mark XIII Ultra Rare. Like crafting, the system is meant to take a while to obtain. Just like leveling from 50 to 60 isn't going to be as fast as the leveling of 1-50.

I love this game and have had star trek in my life since i was a little boy! it was the first t.v. show I watched in color yes I'm and old guy that only wants a fair game for both those who have paid and paid to keep this game going and those who don't! This new upgrading of weapons is going to be broken from the start if people like me don't question our GODS the DEV's! the prices that it cost to upgrade weapons is crazy stupid! over 5 million in credits and 700000 in dilithium and it's not even close and it started at mk12 pink! Some of us run very small fleets and at a price because it takes us so much longer then others! Now with this upgrade there will be nothing left for the fleets for a long time!
What they need to do is make it so going from mk 13 to mk 14 only costs 1.5x the amount of going from 12 to 13, not double!
They also need to raise the chance rate of hitting epic, otherwise all they are going to do is TRIBBLE people off enough to leave. It shouldn't be lockbox-ish to hit epic.
I don't think cryptic understands we are still living threw a crappy economy. People come to the game to get emerged and get away from their life that most of us live paycheck to paycheck in. Its not a fun game if I feel like I'm broke in it as well as RL.

Mark XIV and epic (gold) quality will not be available until Delta Rising is released."
It's quite possible you would have gotten an epic quality upgrade, however the system doesn't have such a thing, yet.
Beyond that...it seems absolutely clear to me that their intention is for epic quality to be a lottery/lockbox type investment.
Mk. XIV UR across the board is within fairly easy reach, probably doable by a single character at a casual pace in 3 months, tops. Probably a few weeks for someone with the resources ready to go (not paying to skip timers).
If you want to roll the dice on Epic attempts or skip the timers, that's your own personal choice.
I was ecstatic when i heard we can finally upgrade our gears... and for the most part this is great,
the one thing i noticed however is that this still does not allow us to retain the form of some of the gears that are visible such as ground weapons etc...
for example:
take a phaser compression full auto rifle Mk1
this is pretty much the only phaser compression rifle that actually look like the phaser rifle in the show... the rest of the phaser rifle (ie: Mk5, etc...) doesn't resemble anything like the ones seen in the show.
Unfortunately no matter how much one might like the look of the Mk1 rifle, you can't really use it beyond initial level since ... well... they r pretty bad obviously when you try to use them in end game (it's a Mk1 after all)
One would have thought that by using upgrade system, we FINALLY can get a phaser rifle that actually LOOK like a phaser rifle in the show... and yet not gimp ourselves...
WRONG, the upgrade system automatically adjust the rifle's look as well as you upgrade it.... so unfortunately that Mk1 phaser rifle that had just the right look, turns into a bulkier Mk5 model when you upgraded it till that point, then turned again into a yet different model... as you upgrade it further into higher Mk number...
Upgrading the stat of the item REALLY should never cause a change in the look of the item unless if the player wish to do so, since the whole point of customizing equipment once u reach the stat cap is the look...

So, I only was able to claim the first day's upgrade stuff on all my toons, but only the second day on one. Also, it gave me the first day again on another but nothing else.
So this is a Gear Upgrade - (lottery Chance) that would explain things. Well it will be put on hold then. I wasted over 30K in dithum and 300K in EC on Chance. Even sold a bunch of items that I had stacked-up saving which is mostly used for DOF task and etc. I'll just finish up REP system and get ready for DR and use what was mention on the Live-stream gear for ground.

This new upgrading of weapons is going to be broken from the start if people like me don't question our GODS the DEV's! the prices that it cost to upgrade weapons is crazy stupid! over 5 million in credits and 700000 in dilithium and it's not even close and it started at mk12 pink! Some of us run very small fleets and at a price because it takes us so much longer then others! Now with this upgrade there will be nothing left for the fleets for a long time!
They also need to raise the chance rate of hitting epic, otherwise all they are going to do is TRIBBLE people off enough to leave. It shouldn't be lockbox-ish to hit epic.
I don't think cryptic understands we are still living threw a crappy economy. People come to the game to get emerged and get away from their life that most of us live paycheck to paycheck in. Its not a fun game if I feel like I'm broke in it as well as RL.

For the pre-release of Delta Rising, were including Tech Upgrades as craftable gear, and youll be able to use Tech Upgrades to improve your gear to Mark XIII, ultra-rare (ultraviolet) quality! Mark XIV and epic (gold) quality will not be available until Delta Rising is released."
It's quite possible you would have gotten an epic quality upgrade, however the system doesn't have such a thing, yet.
Beyond that...it seems absolutely clear to me that their intention is for epic quality to be a lottery/lockbox type investment.
Mk. XIV UR across the board is within fairly easy reach, probably doable by a single character at a casual pace in 3 months, tops. Probably a few weeks for someone with the resources ready to go (not paying to skip timers).
If you want to roll the dice on Epic attempts or skip the timers, that's your own personal choice.
the one thing i noticed however is that this still does not allow us to retain the form of some of the gears that are visible such as ground weapons etc...
for example:
this is pretty much the only phaser compression rifle that actually look like the phaser rifle in the show... the rest of the phaser rifle (ie: Mk5, etc...) doesn't resemble anything like the ones seen in the show.
Unfortunately no matter how much one might like the look of the Mk1 rifle, you can't really use it beyond initial level since ... well... they r pretty bad obviously when you try to use them in end game (it's a Mk1 after all)
One would have thought that by using upgrade system, we FINALLY can get a phaser rifle that actually LOOK like a phaser rifle in the show... and yet not gimp ourselves...
WRONG, the upgrade system automatically adjust the rifle's look as well as you upgrade it.... so unfortunately that Mk1 phaser rifle that had just the right look, turns into a bulkier Mk5 model when you upgraded it till that point, then turned again into a yet different model... as you upgrade it further into higher Mk number...
Upgrading the stat of the item REALLY should never cause a change in the look of the item unless if the player wish to do so, since the whole point of customizing equipment once u reach the stat cap is the look...
When you upgrade the Antiproton High Density Beam Rife MK XII [CritD] [KB3] [Borg], the weapon is nerfed of the following:
20% in critical damage.
5% chance to do 90 kenetic damage with 100% sheild penetration (double damage to Borg)
5% chance to do 180 kenetic damage
Rifle is also renamed as Antiproton High Density Beam Rife MK XIII [Borg] [CritD] [KB3]
I had to buy the original rifle all over again.
So, I only was able to claim the first day's upgrade stuff on all my toons, but only the second day on one. Also, it gave me the first day again on another but nothing else.
Time will only tell!
