I would like to know if the event (all 3 of them) are one-time pickups or if you can come back every day of the event to pick up another pack.

If it is a one-time-pickup per weekend, that's one thing. If it is a "once per day" of the weekend then that's something else. That's a lot of upgrade kits. Not that I'd complain about having extra upgrade kits to use! Got a good amount of stuff I want to upgrade later. We all do. :)

At the moment it feels like a one-time-pickup because I picked up the package yesterday and right now Shelby isn't showing the "turn-in" quest checkmark icon (thus he doesn't have anything for me to pick up).

They appear to be one time per character since it's granted by an automatic mission and there's no countdown timer like, say, the Voth ground dailies.

I have to wonder what the logic was releasing this system early onto holodeck when it was still having various issues on tribble. Did ANYONE at that particular meeting at Cryptic go, "...You're kidding, right? Please tell me you're kidding."

Methinks sales of the $125 DR Ship Pack were lacklustre, so they needed something they knew certain players would POUR Dilithium into (and the only way around the Dil Refinement cap is to trade Zen on the Exchange, so players will ultimately buy Zen...)

    That's why whenever they say:

"Don't be concerned with how <X> is on Tribble -- we'll change it based on player feedback and make sure it's properly tested..."

I laugh. And I DON'T believe it's the people doing the actual QA that are at fault - it's Cryptic?PWE management who (unless something UTTERLY crashes the server when it tested of Tribble) saying - "Yes, I see the bug list, but hell, it'll generate Zen sales now, and you guys can fix it later..." as they push anything and everything out to Holodeck, regardless of valid feedback or bug reports. <--- That seems to be business as usual at Cryptic/PWE.

I mostly just upgraded the last few characters that didn't have mk xii sets and left it at that since its not worth the dilithium to go past xii.

The Romulan one is near the tailor in Mol'Rihan command.

This may be another bug, then. I still have nothing. I'll just opt out of the event.

Releasing this system early was an absolute joke. Not only is it a half-finished buggy catastrophe right now, but most of these bugs have already been reported by Tribble testers over the last few weeks. So you firstly ignore the bug reports of all these dedicated testers, then you push this rubbish to the live server!

    Beyond comprehension.

I wonder if the shard maintenance that's going to start in a few minutes has anything to do with the issues with the upgrade system.

fixing bugs doesn't work in one week.

tribble build is usually one week old when it hits tribble then they get feed back, work on it, test it on internal server and roll it out on tribble again.

But yes I agree on the first point, releasing the system now is meh at best.

    Shaka, when the walls fell.

That was actually a title in game given for a big bug in the game when it first came out. lol

I had the mission that gives the items just vanish without turning in for the items and no the NPC won't give the mission back. Is that being fixed?

I kind of doubt it because normally these kinds of real fast down times only happens when the players are getting more than intended. When we get less they will let it slide until the next event. It's been done before.

Some of those tribble testers will probably also have paid money for the privileged to test it. So they've paid money, logged in, reported bugs and it goes live on holodeck. Half of the issues people are bringing up have been mentioned in the upgrade thread, so they're hardly unknown. Missing mods, weapon damage reduction, anomalous stats. I'm sure the devs are aware of them also, which is what makes it's holodeck release all the more confusing.

We had one guy in chat say "Woohoo, upgrading my cutting beam!", quickly followed with the chat box being filled up with "don't do it, you'll lose your mods!"

    "... Too late."

The upgrade system may be fantastic when finished, but it's not there yet.

Luckily I was keeping track of the upgrade feedback thread, so I was aware how buggy it would be on Holodeck.

One of the main problems was that there were too many items in the game and too few testers. Plus cryptic didn't give us R&D boxes so when you copied your toon to tribble, it went with whatever materials you already had for making tech upgrades. So those of us who were already there were kinda limited as it was. I ended up copying my own toon over 10 or 11 times just to get enough matts to upgrade a few items.

There didnt really make it THAT tester friendly for us.

Yes, actually, there is - some are just too stubborn or blinded to actually appreciate it for a moment... and ignore? A lack of response is not ignoring unless deliberate; it frankly is not, in any case.

But anyway, Cryptic have deadlines set on them, from higher-up, which is usually how the system works. And if the bosses don't/can't/won't allow the deadlines to be extended, what can they do about it?

I'm assuming we're supposed to get more goodies tonight?

If so, one of my characters is bugged and couldn't get them. The mission appeared again for the others.

The upgrade items could've easily been given away without unlocking the system in its untested state. If more people were needed to test it then Tribble could've been unlocked, or this could've been done on Redshirt.

I hope the game can track what items people had so they can get their mods and special items back.
They NEED to give away A LOT of things to keep the player base playing the game. Because if not, the servers will be empty because people dont want to play a game full of bugs and fails everywhere and receive nothing in compensation. Thinking in a reasonable way, this is not really a gift cryptic is giving to you, it is just a way to keep players happy or at least keeping em playing the game.
I would agree but the circumstances were reversed.

The first giveaway came last year after the Risa summer event which was an overwhelming success with lots of players on all the time. They had already had their peak player usage moment. They had no reason to give away C-Store items or ships.

This of course is certainly a completely different situation.
But taking aside this. YES, cryptic has given a lot of things. I agree with that.

But that is not an excuse to keep raising the dilithium need when we already have the game filled with dilithium sells everywhere and we cant save for personal items, fleet projects, crafting system, reputation, and forgetting other things, now the upgrade system. I wonder what will be the next thing to add to the list.

Dilithium is truly the indispensable currency around here. It is frankly overused.

A suggestion. For the rep gear items I would say make it the same way you received them. A lesser dilithium cost combined with a mark requirement.

The dilithium cost certainly needs to come down across the board, but we've already said that.

Zoning did indeed help get the issue resolved.

One other small issue I have with this event though is why are these upgrade items not going into my R&D tab instead of taking up valuable inventory space? Am I the only person who sees these things as an R&D item and NOT regular inventory?

What was the point in giving us all this R&D space if obvious (at least to me) R&D items can't be put in there?

    Agreed.

The upgrade items while not part of the materials and components hierarchy, and not actually attached to the overall crafting system are still items used in a manner more related to the crafting system than any other. It would be a nice Qol to be able to place them in the R&D inventory instead of having them take up bank spaces. Regardless of the desire to sell more inventory/bank slots.

Same, as 2 of my newest character's, was able to claim upgrade mats for yesterday & today.

Yet, my other 3 old character's, were only able to claim them yesterday, and not today.

    What gives here Cryptic?

Is this WAI, or is there some problematic bug here?

Like any new release, there are issues. Have not experienced the bugs yet, but I've learned to wait 30 days before doing anything major. This is doubly so with gear upgrades... no sense in doing anything that doesn't have an undo button.

    Having said that...

The upgrade screen shows you EXACTLY what your chances are. I'm not big on lottery statistics, but I would assume if it says you have a 2% chance to get Ultra Rare, you're an idiot to touch to commit button.

Methinks I'll wait until I max research BEFORE i play with this.

Only one of mine was able to get additional goodies... I was actually surprised to see the Mission go past again. I'm assuming that the bug was the guy that got the additional goodies. The rest not getting them is probably the set that is WAI. :P

If I remember correctly, you have to open your Upgrade UI (where the Sort button used to be, as irksome as that is) and then reclaim the upgraded item after it finishes. Much like the Crafting System, the Upgrade System also has a Finish Now option to get your gear back faster.

Makes you wonder just how many reported bugs are actually bugs.
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

Work-in-progress state as I see it! Upgrade neat idea, but needs a lot improvements to fix the glitches. Sure everyone wants to upgrade their current gear without any chance feature! Which in the end would consume more of your major resources. :(

But to me for now just go with what new gears in DR Missions and DR Rep System. For one thing they need to move the upgrade button to right of the replicator instead instead of placing moving the sort button. ;)
