If those are the only items you value then the pack isn't for you. Just buy the individual items you like when they are released.
These packs are designed to appeal to the hardcore altoholics like myself who will get the most use out of the account wide unlocks in the pack.
i would argue its meant for fed-mains.
granted, feds are clearly the average in sto, but doesnt cryptic want to increase sales to 'the 18%'? what right-minded business intentionally ignores (or even worse, alienates) such a large percentage of its customer base? 13 of my 16 toons are kdf, so its not as if i dont run alts. unfortunately, very few of them would benefit from this pack.
i suppose my bottom line is that if cryptic want to generate more presales, offer some alternatives for those that arent the garden-variety fed- whether that be a pack with 3 or 4 ships, or maybe more kdf or rom ships...
I'm no stranger to micro-transactions and buying DLC's. Looking at my vast collection of DLC's for MMO's and stand-alone box games, I'll go so far as to admit I may have a DLC addiction. Between Lifetime membership, and all the ships I've bought for this game I'm clearly not one to pause too long on paying for additional extras. Also, having spent several years in software development myself I completely understand and appreciate the business end of the computer software industry.
That being said, when a complete "AAA" video game takes around $60 million (That's $60,000,000.00) to $80 million to develop and cost about $70.00 for me to buy. Shelling out $125.00 for a DLC expansion seems excessive. Considering PWE paid a little over $50 million for Cryptic and all it's IP's a few years ago. When I see the $125 asking price for this new DLC and can't help but to wonder how much of that is actual voice talent and man-hours invested, and how much of that might be fleecing?
You don't need to spend 125 $ for this DLC. You can have everything in the expansion for free. Even the ships can be acquired via Dilithium conversion to Zen.
But if you want these ships fast, the moment they appear, you may want this package.
Basically, the package and the expansion is based on the assumption that many people will not want to spend any money at all for the expansion, and the few that do will basically help finance it. So it's not the usual 25 $ for a DLC that you can only get if you spend that money, it's priced at 0 $ for most and 125 $ for whales.

Hmm. There seems to be a strong conceptual overlap between Science and Intelligence vessels. Active Sensor Array and Sensor Analysis ...
And it looks like Starfleet vessels with cloak are in now.
Yeah falls under my ranting category when it comes to non federation faction characters. Odds are they won't make the klingon and romulan ships versatile nor given some kind of tech/mechanics to be just as good as these ships with that Sensor Analysis and Active Sensor Array.
Yeah you know the talk about them getting cloaks was one of the not ever going to happen on any others than defiant or galaxy x for feds. Although they did state over and over again in the past how federation ships would never have carrier pets but they do now. Odds are you are going to see them desperate for a cash grab that you will see them all getting battle cloaks.
I think it's all the Materials, really. I think if they get a Starfleet white/gray tone, they would fit perfectly in.
Other than that which is a great idea. They should have added in a specialty ship to acknowledge the intelligence or counter command or whatever they are going to be called. Having a 3 pack of a hybrid class with this tech. Kind of like if you look at the facebook page for ST:Renegades their ship is basically a prometheus and a vor'cha hybrid. So they could make it like feds for example would have one that has designs incorporated of all 3 factions. Then the other 2 for feds would be like a fed/klingon design and then last one would be like fed/romulan design. Especially if say for the KDF if there was a Negh'var/Scimitar hybrid lol.
so for a measly 125 i get all the ships that are coming out at launch plus all new other gooey stuff wow really wow well at leat feds did finally get cloaking devices standard on the new intelligence ships . and before you other two factions start crying it is the 25 th century nd ccording to the shows by this time period lots of fed ships use cloaks why. its because the romulean star empire emploded so they no longer needed to honor a treaty with a defuct govement lookit up sometime when a country collapses and a new country emerges they don't usually honor treaties with the former country. and these ships with cloaks are intelligence gathering ships so them having a cloak makes some sense
One Federation vessel in one alternate future that never happened, at least in the way that it played out on screen, is not "lots of ships." In this timeline, the Romulan Star Empire still exists, so the Federation broke the Treaty of Algeron. It isn't new with these ships, though, they broke the treaty when they started producing Defiants and Galaxy-Xs with cloaking devices. It's not a very Federation kind of thing to do, but it's what we have.
This is an MMO, not a Star Trek episode simulator. That would make for a terrible game.
I was impressed until I saw... $124.99.... which made me in awe... In how much the game has been monetized. I suppose this should be considered fair for the number of ships being provided in one pack and the extra benies in upgrade tokens and purple Doffs, but the first look still stings the wallet.
It's about the same as the LoR pack when it was available for pre-order and for a little while after LoR launched (LoR starter pack was cheap at first and went up also). It does say "introductory price" meaning that some time later it will go up in cost like the LoR packs.
Also in the Q and A here http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/announcement.php?a=131 it indicates that if you purchase the starter pack and they decide to add more to it before Delta Rises launches, you will get all the newly includes stuff at no extra cost. If I remember right that happened with the LoR pack - new stuff added between players being able to pre-order and LoR launch. And confirmed:
Q: How long will these packs be available for?
A: We currently do not have plans to remove this pack for purchase, but their current pricing is available for a limited-time only. Once we have a date solidified for when the pricing will adjust, we'll be sure to communicate it.
All I can say is:
Q: Will I be able to access the Ships or Items on the test server before the expansion is released?
A: No. All of the rewards will be claimable within the in-game C-Store upon the release of the Delta Rising Expansion in October.
So there are 8 tier 6 ships and they're all in the c-store, no promotion/dilithium ships available at all? Not impressed cryptic, not at all. You're basically saying the only possible way to be viable at end game is to pay out, either by buying from the c-store or paying to upgrade a lower ship, and even then you can't upgrade the dilithium ships, only the ones you paid/grinded for. I wish I could say I was surprised.
i would argue its meant for fed-mains.

Yeah pretty much we have learned that if KDF content is going to exist as far as new content goes. All scheduled fed content must be somewhat finished first. So usually we are lucky to get anything at all even if its just nothing more than a rain check. Although what they have stated so far about this new expansion I probally won't even play it tbh.
While I don't think that those ships are ugly, I spent a long time building up my current fleet of ships. I even build characters specifically around some ships I wanted to fly. I'm not really inclined to start flying these new ships.
Not to mention that I won't buy anything without knowing more details or knowing that I can actually do fun things in them instead of running the same queued events over and over.
So the Americans pay $124.99 which is £75 GBP but us in the UK have to pay 119 Euros which is £95 GBP, why does it cost us £20 GBP more?
Provide a Paypal link to pay in dollars or UK pounds, we do not use Euros in the UK and I'm sick of being shafted every time we buy something.
As far as the pack goes, as a dedicated Fed I'm not that impressed, the designs look pretty meh, who is it at Cryptic that thinks the Iconic Starship designs are not worthy of inclusion. At least the Klingon and the Romulan ships are recognisable. I hope the Galaxy Venture skin can be used on that cruiser.
Sort the pricing out for the UK and you'll get more buyers, give us iconic Federation designs like, you know, that ship that was stuck in the DQ for 7 years, then you may get more buyers, I want to play Star Trek online not TRON online.
I agree with the pricing thing, only an issue with this and the legacy of Romulus pack when that was first released. I'll just wait and get it later. Which, incidentally, is what I said with LoR. And I've still not purchased anything from that, tbh. Hmmmm.
They're doing less iconic ship designs now (imo) because the iconic designs are canonically getting rather long in the tooth now.
Pending stats I really am looking at scooping this pack up. I'm pretty geeked for a new Raptor and BC, but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE for the love of God make sure that the Raptor doesn't share the pivot issues of the Qin!
I'm also not entirely sure how necessary an EBC Death Star Rom ship is for PvE but to those of us who PvP it is sending up some warning flags.
Those ships are so ugly, that it finally motivated me to make a forum sig.
Might I suggest The Wrath of TRON instead? Legacy jokes are so last year, and DelTRON Rising just doesn't have the same ring to it.
Honestly, though, if they at least have access to less glowey skins they might be decent looking... something to test on Tribble when it becomes possible to do so. The one that looks like a personal fan in space, though, still isn't going to be my style unless there are alternate donut/saucer variations. We'll see when we see
With each passing day I wonder if I stepped into an alternate reality. The Cubs win the world series. Donald Trump is President. Britain leaves the EU. STO gets a dedicated PvP season. Engineers are "out of control" in STO.
Q: What items in these packs are exclusive and cannot be obtained via the C-Store when Delta Rising launches in October?
A: The "Voyager", "Delta Quadrant Ambassador", and "Delta Quadrant Explorer" titles are exclusive to purchasers of the Operations Pack. The Special Delta Quadrant Duty Officer Mini-Pack is also exclusive in the sense that it will not be available in the C-Store for purchase, and contains three (3) unique Delta Quadrant Duty Officers that will join your crew. These Duty Officers are bound, cannot be donated to reputation or fleet holding projects, and provide no rewards upon dismissal. If all three are dismissed, you will be able to re-claim the mini-pack.
Well that sucks. I was hoping to be able to buy the doffs separately. It does make me assume that all 3 doffs are available for all factions.
But I'm wondering about the bridge officers. It seems to leave open the possibility each can be purchased separately in the c-store. But are all 3 boffs going to be available for all factions, or will it be 1 boff for each faction?
Judging by the looks of things the only Fed ship I can stand to look at is the Guardian Cruiser because I grew up with TNG and it looks similar to a Galaxy class. It is the only Fed ship I will buy because I think the rest are just outrageously ugly. I don't care how they perform. I wouldn't be caught dead flying a garbage scow, even if it can use DHC's. But the only way I will buy the Guardian Cruiser is if it can use saucer separation technology, which is the reason I didn't buy the Dreadnaught Cruiser until 2 days before the "Galaxy Reboot".
The Klingon and Romulan ships aren't too bad to look at.
Seriously though. Who is the dev that created the Scryer Intel Science Vessel and WTF were they smoking to come up with that TRIBBLE? Along with the Phantom and Eclipse, the Scryer looks too flat and jagged.
Well, for me its lights and shadows. I do like the look of the new klingon ships and the artwork for the new romulan Battlecruiser and i even have some hope for the Guardian Cruiser of the Feds, but those stealth Federation ships are not for me.
Granted, 120 euros for 8 ships, 3 upgrade tokens m six very rare Boffs and some other goodies isnt that bad a deal imho, but i think ill pick the stuff i like and buy them idividually.
For those fed ships i hope theyll get some alternative hull materials like type 6 for example to blend them in a little better.
Other than that ill upgrade my Scim, vesta, oddy and kumari to t5u and maybe my Tempest to t5u.
I cant say im dissapointed about the pack but not realy thrilled either. Would love to see faction specific packs. The klingons would be an easy buy for me, maybe the romulans too.

Q: There seems to be a discrepancy in the price in US Dollars and Euro - why?
A: In your conversion, please ensure you are taking VAT into consideration.
This issue came up with the LoR packs also. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Value-added_tax The reason why you pay more is because of taxes added on while here in the U.S. it isn't common to be charged sales tax or any kind of tax for online purchases (not for virtual goods at least). For example I can purchase gems in Guild Wars 2 for their cash shop and not have to pay a tax on it. The same for purchasing zen through the website or buying zen cards at Wal-Mart.
Though it has been controversial with some calling on lawmakers here in the states to force states to charge sales tax for online purchases (mainly for physical goods because "brick-and-mortar" stores are said to be at a disadvantage).
Pretty cool pack. I won't be touching it as those Fed ships are honestly gross looking but if you want T6 and have multi faction alts, this is a pretty cool package.
Please note that everything detailed here is subject to change due to constructive feedback.
We also encourage you to hop onto our test server Tribble to experience this system first hand when it becomes available.
Fixed that for you. 'Cause, you know, the crafting revamp is in the state it's in because players ranted too much and you wanted CONSTRUCTIVE feedback and nobody gave it, right?
Players have given "feedback" on T5 ship upgrades.
Things like:
"make all ships upgradeable free"
"make mirror ships upgradeable"
"I don't mind paying if it isn't too much"
"make it a one time purchase to upgrade all T5 ships on our account"
and so on.
Well judging by the DR pack, Cryptic is stone cold set in charging us to upgrade each non-special ship. Each and every one of them (except mirror ships!). Though to be fair you buy an upgrade for your Galaxy-R only once and all Galaxy-R's for all current and future characters will be upgraded. And I bet the bonus console slot for an upgraded Galaxy-R will be engineering. How cool would that be to have a 6th engineering console slot on your fleet Galaxy-R and still have only 1 tactical boff station? Super awesome I know. Thanks for reading.
For the three ship upgrade tokens in this pack, it says we only get three per account on one character. So are they account bound, or character bound? If account bound, that sounds okay because I can swap them around to other characters via the bank. If character bound, not so good, since I personally don't have three ships that I want to upgrade on one character. So in the interest of knowledge, which is it?

They have said that ship upgrades single purchase are account-wide unlocks. If you upgrade your Defiant on 1 character it will be upgraded for all other current and future characters. If the tokens are character bound then claim them on a character with the ships you feel are most important to upgrade first.
On the face of it, it would appear that what they said about our T5-U ships being competitive is just another lie to keep us spending on the game. Cloaking ships with all the bells and whistles and lances especially on that Romulan ship?
I'm obviously going to wait until I see the full specs, but at the moment this is looking more and more like more of Cryptics bad lies.

I no longer do any Bug Hunting work for Cryptic. I may resume if a serious attempt to fix the game is made.
