You mean just like progressing every single Tier in this entire game? Did you also complain when you reached lvl 40 and your Captian level ship was not longer top dog?

These aren't just new ships people, this is a Level increase and an entirely new Tier. Your current ships and equipment are something to be upgraded or replaced just like at every single tier in this game.

Which is BS we did not want IN THE FIRST PLACE! So take your can-do BOHICA lovin' attitude and give up. YOU ARE WRONG! The forums are no place for fan boys. Forums are meant to be constructive in making the game better. Not to promote TRIBBLE over players/consumers.

Ummmm? More difficult would be a good thing.

I took a very long break for the simple reason that most things were too easy to do...combat-wise, that is. Found myself looking at the game thinking 'Okay, this is getting boring.'. The episodes are nice, I like most of the stories; after that? Repetiveness set in and after another month, or so, got bored and went and played other games for the last 8 months, or so.

Came back the other day, deleted my characters after selling off what I could and dumping things into fleet holdings that I was still guilded with and transferred ships and R/D stuff I picked up in the exchange to a new character to start over with. Should be back to L50 by the end of the weekend with her...if I don't decide to start a couple more noobies. Then that will add a whole extra week to get to 50.

Yeah, I know...after 50 is when things get interesting, for a time. Been there; done it. Am hoping the new content coupled with changes since I took my break will hold my interest longer. We'll see.

Can't really say I am happy about having to pay somethin to upgrade my ships but my romulan has the only C store ship worth upgrading and I don't play with that toon often so will most likly remove him.
But the free upgrade for lockbox ships does that include the mu ships

Mirror ships can NOT be upgraded, sadly. I have several I use as "main" ships for some of my alts. They will now need to switch to something else.

Hi cryptic defender fan boy! I hope you feel good about yourself for that statement. :D And to answer your question, yes because I paid and ground for it like every other player here. I'm not paying or grinding anymore. I've done my bit for king and country.
You know... I have seen your posting, and you come off as someone who whines when he doesn't get his way... I don't mind the upgrade process, I sort of expected some sort of cost to be incurred. Am I effected by this? Yes I am because I bought the Vesta Pack for my Federation characters, and here's the kicker, I don't mind if I have to pay more to upgrade them, since upgrading them is just a one-time fee. Then there's the fact that I don't really need to USE my Vesta ships, since I have the Vet ships, and I get those upgraded for free (even my KDF Reman gets his Fleet Daienos upgraded for free).

So, after I post this reply to you, you're going to call me a fan boy and you're going to try to make derogatory remarks as if your opinion matters to me... or to anyone else who might be okay with the process of upgrading from Tier 5 to Tier 5U. So, here's a suggestion: Stop trying to get on people nerves by calling them name... you already come off as being rude anyway.

BTW Charging for something new and better isnt garbage. You can get everything in game for free if you grind for it.

Dont like to grind. Pay for it.
Dont like to pay. Just GTFO

Nothing is really for free in this world or do you really think the Cryptic Devs are just working for the lulz on this game? They need to eat aswell...

1000 times this!!! I APPROVE THIS MESSAGE!!! Quit your whining already people !

It would appear that STO is developing a revolt. Everyone from those who started out when STO came out, life members, and the free to play, are telling STO this Tier 6 deal and the Tier 5 upgrade deal is over the top. The question is whether or not STO will listen and take heed.

Leveling up and gather a new ship is one thing, but making the not so long ago released top of the line ships into obsolete, especially for those who just got them and have not even been able to max out their potential yet, is not selling. Upgrading some ships that turns out to not even be an upgrade isn't selling at all. Will the Devs listen and act?

One can only wonder when the Devs will finally get around to fixing the exchange since it's been messed up since 9 was released. This happens every time they come out with a new season and yet for some reason there seems to be no motivation to correct the errors generated by them. So now we have a defective product that's being turned upside down and people are supposed to be happy about this?

    This!

People whine about the current upgrades or why their ships cant be T6 because they still want to keep one-shooting Borg-Cubes...

Its not like the game will become unplayabale in your T5.5 ships... lots of Drama no foundation.

    Need for Powercreep thats all...

I'm not whining because I want to be able to finish elite STF's in mere minutes. I'm whining because the tier 6 upgrade will most likely result in tier 5 or 5.5 ships becoming obsolete, even if they say they won't. Also, if they are going to scale elite STF's such that t6 players won't be too powerful while they are doing these, it will hurt the fresh level 50 characters and widen the gap even more.

It would be nice if people stopped calling genuine concern about balance between older and newer players and the risk of things becoming obsolete 'whining' btw.

You are not paying again for something you already have, get that through your thick skull. None of those Galaxy ships you have been whining about will be taken from you or changed in any way and you will not be charged to keep them. You pay NOTHING for what you have.

If you want to get the Galaxy T5-U VARIANT , an entirely new ship, you can buy one and it will cost you the same amount that a Fleet variant would and it is an account wide unlock unlike the Fleet variant.

Wow bud. You're tone suggests that you're someone with a lot of disposable income or someone who has never bought a c-store ship ever - that or you just missed that guys' point.

    Myself as an example:

I have the Galaxy Pack, the Oddy Pack, the Scimi Pack, the B'Rel and the Mogh. Like many others, I didn't blow that $200 on Zen to have the 3RD BEST tiered ships in the game. To potentially make me pay another $55-$110 (depending on the $5 or $10 charge to upgrade to T5-U) just to keep them all competitive is pretty bastardly IMO - that doesn't even take into account the money I've blown buying zen for modules on fleet variants.

I'll give the launch of this season a shot, but right now I'm of the opinion that STO just got the gold medal in 'Uncool Olympics'.

That's really too bad. The game is too easy already. I shouldn't be able to solo Borg tactical cubes in my Excelsior, but I can, easily. The new T6 ships will make the power creep even more ridiculous if the NPCs aren't buffed to counter them.

granted to you when you are only looking to upgrade one ship maybe 500 zen dosent sound much but what of if you have a bundle of 3 ships or in my case the mega bundle of 9 ships now we are looking at 4500zen or maybe as much as 9000zen to upgrade them.
that's close to the full price paid for the bundle all over again.
to have to pay 9000zen to upgrade a 10000zen purchase its tantamount to daylight robbery in my opinion.
    im not a happy chappie.
and when they bring this in who in there right mind is going to buy that dyson mega bundle again only to have to pay almost as much again to upgrade them.
the irony is all the free ships from the events are getting a free upgrade, if this is the case why should I have to pay to upgrade a ship ive already paid for.

    Question
Pretty sure if you bought the Dyson Mega bundle [like i did] it was to get all the consoles for the set bonuses and it was cheaper since i play all 3 factions, But i really only ever use the Dyson recon version so why not just upgrade the ship you use the most?

    * hoping the upgrade only costs 500 zen but either way across all 3 factions that would only cost me 1500-3000 zen [depending on price fix] to upgrade the ships I actually use from the bundle.

Personally i have a lot of alts that are flying the Chel Gret/Plesh Brek/Risian corvette/Risian cruiser that will be upgraded for free with the Delta rising launch., so atm not that big a deal for me, must have the latest shiny upgrade is what is driving the dilith exchange price up curious what it will be this morning. :P

*just remember that i have severl alts also flying the mirror bop, etc but meh they should still be fine more challenge for those captains vs alot of people complaining the game is too easy lately.

So, apologies if this has been answered (lots of pages, and I can't find it while searching), but let's say I have a Fleet Gal-X, and I own the C-Store one. If I get the upgrade on the Fleet one, does it also apply to the non-Fleet version? Or will the non-Fleet and Fleet versions need to be upgraded separately?

    Just FYI...

The Upgrade is unlocked for the account. So if you upgrade the Odyssey as example your other chars have the same upgrade for free then.

Dont like to grind. Pay for it.

"YOU CAN GRIND ENDLESSLY FOR IT" is not an excuse for bad design, nor is it a shield to deflect all criticism of it.

I'm sure this sentiment is repeated elsewhere in the thread, but I'm going to repeat it: This just feels like greed to me. I understand that PWE/Cryptic needs to make money on STO, or it'll just get shut down. I have no problem with that. Over the past few years I've bought ~20 ships, many of them T5. I could have gotten an LTS with the money I've spent on ships alone, let alone bank increases, boff increases, BO's like the Borg Engineer, and zen I've converted to dil for gear.

All of the ships my 4 characters fly are 2500 zen ships. Whenever possible, I upgrade to a fleet variant, because I want the latest and best, like everyone else. I've paid 3000 zen for most of my ships (2500+500 for the FSM.) Now, in order to be competitive, I need to pay another 500 or more to upgrade once again.

On the other hand, I can pay however much for a full T6 ship (likely 3000 zen,) and have powers and abilities that T5-U ships can't get. So where's the motivation to spend money on any other ships beside T6 ones, ever again?

I own 8 c-store ships that I have all gotten with dilithium alone. If you don't want to pay money then either don't get the ships or use dilithium. T3 c-store ships are also not endgame but I dont see anyone complaining about not being able to upgrade them, all I see is "wow you like sucking [edited] dont you thats TRIBBLE."

T6 is no different than any of the other tiers and if you want ships/equip of that quality you earn them or pay for them just like everything else.

I may of course be wrong, but my understanding from the dev posts earlier was that the fleet and normal versions are treated separately. So upgrading one does not cover the cost of upgrading the other.

If I get the upgrade on the Fleet one, does it also apply to the non-Fleet version? Or will the non-Fleet and Fleet versions need to be upgraded separately?

    Its buried somewhere back there:
Let's say you purchase the Exploration Cruiser Retrofit. You can claim this ship on any of your federation characters. Now, let's say you want to get the Fleet Exploration Cruiser Retrofit. Since you already own the non-fleet variant, this will cost 1 Fleet Module (500 Zen). Now you have both the Exploration Cruiser Retrofit and the Fleet Exploration Cruiser Retrofit. You can then choose to upgrade either or both of these ships to T5-U by paying a Zen cost. For the sake of this example, let's say you upgrade both.

Now, what this means on an Starfleet alt is:

    1) You can claim the Exploration Cruiser Retrofit for free from the Zen store.
    2) You need to be in a fleet that has unlocked the appropriate shipyard level for the Fleet Exploration Cruiser Retrofit. You'll also need to pay the fleet credit cost and purchase a Fleet Module in order to obtain this starship.
    3) You can upgrade your Exploration Cruiser Retrofit to T5-U for free since you purchased the upgrade for this particular ship.
    4) If you purchase the Fleet Exploration Cruiser Retrofit on another character for the costs mentioned in 2) above, then you can upgrade this ship to T5-U for free since you've already purchased the upgrade for this particular ship.

I hope that answers some questions.

    Thanks,

    Phil "Gorngonzolla" Zeleski

No, not at all. Anyone who believes we should pay to grind or pay to win is just wrong. New content does not mean new grinding. Nor should we pay to make the new content fun. Especially since we have already paid and ground for what we have.

I feel slightly better that the upgrades are account wide. I'd feel even better if one upgrade covered an entire ship pack.

Some of them, like the Kumari Escort, with its tactical, tactical, and even more tactical design don't have a lot of versatility or replay value. I'd be upgrading that ship for one captain.

I am very happy I got all my captains both Risian ships this year.
This is my Risian Corvette. There are many like it, but this one is mine.
