I'm not overly happy that I have to pay another charge to upgrade my Vesta Class, which I did actually pay for (not through the stipend) whilst Lobi/Lockbox etc are free, it should be everyone or no-one having to pay if you want to hold onto your existing T5 ship. I wouldn't object if it was across the board.

All I would like to know (as the Q & A on the Blog didnt say) is how Fleet ships are addressed in the upgrade?
Right now, Fleet ships are per character unlocks. So if I purchase a Fleet Avenger on my main, I would have to purchase it again on another character OR if I dismissed my Fleet version on the main.
Do I now have to pay 500 - 1000 Zen PER FLEET SHIP to upgrade to T5-U?

People are complaining about having to pay money to upgrade their ships even when they've paid money to have them anyway? You really thought that you're going to get the ship upgrades for free? Sorry, but if you actually believed that all ships would be upgradable for free, that's not Cryptic's fault, that's your own.
Thankfully, I don't have to worry about the ship upgrades, since a lot of the ships I have will be done for free.
What bugs me less about the Zen part on C-store ships (unless things like the Vesta are gonna be 500 or 1000 zen per vessel instead of that price for the full set.)
What's bugging me is that these T5-Us are still short a BOff power and the ship traits. Unless it's an extra ensign power, I can all but assure you that any attempt to stack a 5U vs a 6 is gonna end up in epic fail for the 5U...
And still no mention on whether the new BOff class fits universal or not...
Detecting big-time "anti-old-school" bias here. NX? Lobi. TOS/TMP Connie? Super-promotion-box. (aka the two hardest ways to get ships) Excelsior & all 3 TNG "big hero" ships? C-Store. Please Equalize...

Pressing this button will prompt you to pay a Zen cost (or possibly require an item with a Zen cost).
This cost will be significantly lower than if you were to purchase a Tier 6 ship from the Zen Store.
Completing this purchase will then immediately upgrade your ship and transfer any items on the T5 ship to the new upgraded ship.
Called it.
I'd just like to ask - It's significantly cheaper to upgrade than to buy a T6 ship - fine. Is there any kind of discount for upgrading T6 C-Store ships that we already own? And similarly, for upgrading any already owned Fleet Ships where we also already own the C-Store version?
It should be noted that some ships will be free to upgrade.
This includes things like many event reputation ships (like the Breen and Risian ships), all lockbox ships, all lobi store ships, and duty officer promotion ships like the Jem’Hadar Attack Ship and Voth Bulwark Dreadnought Cruiser.
Well, it's not all doom and gloom.
Q: How much Zen will it cost to upgrade my starship?
A: We have not finalized the cost, but it is likely to be somewhere between $5 and $10.
So it's basically going to be a Fleet Module, but for Upgrading. An "Upgrade Module", if you will.
Q: So, if I pay for an upgrade on a starship, that upgraded starship will be available to all my characters that can fly that ship?
A: Correct!
You only need to pay the upgrade fee once.
Good.
Overall, i'd be less impressed with this reveal if all of this hadn't been predicted way in advance. All this was just confirming what players have been saying for maybe three weeks.
Please note that everything detailed here is subject to change due to feedback.
Uh-huh, sure.
You're just a machine. And machines can be broken.
I think the Flagships at least should get a chance to upgrade to full T6, or have a Fleet variant that is full T6. The Enterprise-F at least deserves to be one of the best ships in Starfleet.
I am a bit disappointed old ships won't have traits. I can (probably) live without the new boffs though it would be neat if maybe the new boffs could be seated in universals. Being down a boff ability might also be a big disadvantage, as well.
Be careful with the price fleet ships already cost $20 - $30 depending on whether or not you bought the zen version, though being able to upgrade across the account does help mitigate it somewhat.
Thank you cryptic. That great news (for me at least). Before all the haters start their rage here Im going to post y thoughts here:
Pro:
5-10$ for an upgrade seems fine for me and that the lobi/lockbox ships are free to upgrade is great! Since Im thinking that the T6 Zen ships will be between 3000-4000 Zen it seems like a fair deal to me
Contra:
Although I payed for the ships, they wont reach the same status as the T6 ships? Hmm well, lets w8 untill the ship specs come out.
Not exactly pleased, nor surprised by the Zen cost for ship upgrades. I can live with that somewhat, though I'm not looking forward to paying $5-10 in real money (or grinding the dilithium for it) to upgrade each of my favourite ship types... Honestly guys, I'd look at what you can do towards minimising the cost of upgrading any already purchased T-5 C-store and fleet ships. I can understand you wanting to add a price tag to the basic T-5 ships (the ones that come without consoles etc), but people have already paid out a significant amount out for the C-store and fleet variants over the years (especially fleet versions of those C-store ships where you end up paying out twice in the form of the original ship purchase and then a fleet ship module) and it kinda feels like double (triple) dipping to ask for more...
As to the rest, not having the starship trait and the lack of specialist BOff seating and Boff ability, totally understandable, expected, and I can live with it to be able to end up flying some of the awesome, iconic star trek ships we all know and love
Up until this devblog, I was pretty neutral towards DR as I didn't know what the costs and disadvantages to upgrading the existing T-5 ships would be... Now that I know, I'm feeling cautiously optimistic towards it. Definite improvement. If you can make sure to keep the costs as low as possible on the upgrades ($5 or preferably lower) on C-store/fleet ships, then I say "Bring it on!"
General okay with all of this except for one little thing. I think that T5-U ships should be able to gain a Starship Trait. To be the idea of your starship having a certain trait is part of what makes it your unique, famous ship, much like the Enterprise, Voyager or Defiant. If we choose to fly a ship that isn't T6 we should be able to earn a special trait for it to make it unique and much more 'our' ship as part of its legend. Other than that, I'm totally fine with not getting the other abilities.
you do realise, developers-mods- workers at cryptic- no matter how much blogs you write, there going to be numerous questions by everyone. i for one am interested in seeing whats going to happen to my fleet advanced escort. its a star base tier 4 ship but i dont want to fly anything else. i have been with fleets that have tier 5 star base and option of getting the ship for life time subscribers and every other ship. its not i cant afford ships. i like my ship, i like the way it seperates into 3.
now with that said. since the upgrade is coming i am assuming my ship is going to scale with my new levels. this sounds interesting. i wonder if this is really going to work?
People how paid for T5 ships or for keys for lockboxes, you did so by choice and have served you for up to 4 years.
Cryptic like all other MMOs are realising a level cap increase with new T6 ships to go with it.
They have specifically said T5 will still be able to play competitively.
They could have said we're rising the cap and whilst you can still use T5 you will not be able to upgrade them. But they are saying you can, but a proportion of them you will have to pay a small fee. A big chunk of ship are free to upgrade.
This is quite right; remember this game is FREE TO PLAY, so they have to make their money some how.
I for one think Cryptic is being more than fair and reasonable with this upgrade system.
Sooo... why not just call them tier 6 after the upgrade? The only real difference, considering that the starship traits can be used on any ship after unlocked and that the new BOFF class can most likely be used in universal seats, is the additional "BOFF ability". Which doesn't seem like that big of a deal.
I wouldn't say the "additional boff ability" isn't a big deal. After all, that additional boff ability separates T4 from T5, too. And T4 is garbage. Therefore, being perpetually short one ability will similarly make T5 garbage.
And they seem to also be pretending that the Fleet and non-Fleet-upgraded ships are different ships, and so upgrading one won't upgrade the "other", so hey, bonus points there, too.
I know this information will not please everyone as it is not what everyone wanted to hear regarding CStore ships and ZEN costs for upgrading, but please remember to keep the responses civil, and follow our TOS.
We will all be monitoring this thread for feedback, but please refrain from turning this into a rage thread.

This is actually a very good question. For example - I own the Galaxy bundle. My main has a Fleet Gal-X though. If I upgrade my CStore version I get T5-U? Is there any advantage to upgrading the Fleet Gal-X? Are Fleet ship stats going to be higher after the conversion? Finally, do I have to pay twice (upgrade the CStore version, then the Fleet seperately).
Details to sort out before this goes live. I'm hoping (well, we can all hope) they keep the costs down as much as possible. As I said before, would give me more zen to spend elsewhere.
Wow... everything sounds fantastic! I do have one question though.... if I own a ship bundle is that going to be individual ship upgrades or will there be a bundle upgrade? I only buy fleet and store ships and I own lots of bundles and want to pin down my upgrade costs.
As for the ship upgrades not being competitive... I think we just need to wait and see. Cryptic has said t5 ships will remain competitive and I believe it. The ships are the bread and butter of this game and it isn't something they want to TRIBBLE up. I haven't missed out on the lockbox shines and I don't see t6 as anything different.

The above list seems like gamechangers for ships. (And is half the list of features -- not just "a few bells and whistles.")
If that's the case, then I'm sorry, but that will make T5Us obsolete from the start.

Thanks for the Blog.
It does seem like a biggish gap.
Although, as someone said, not even all the T6s will get the specialist boff.
While PvE is one thing, this clearly impacts PvP heavily.
I'd like to see a little give on this, as apparently its not all set in stone.
Either give the T5Us the extra boff slot, or give all of them a generic starship trait.
Narrow the gap just a little more.
I appreciate there needs to be a gap of some sort, but it doesn't need to be too big.
And they seem to also be pretending that the Fleet and non-Fleet-upgraded ships are different ships, and so upgrading one won't upgrade the "other", so hey, bonus points there, too.
