    Ok maybe Bury it was the wrong verb. Thing is this issue is going to become a mega thread, and people are going to look in the bug reports section, they do and find nothing, they will start a new thread there. which you will then have to move here. So by moving it here you are simply making more work for yourself.

    point, I'm just frustrated because the developers were warned this would happen. It was an issue they were aware of in Tribble and they still went ahead with it... again.

    suggestion..on the launcher, go into options, check launch in safe mode, see if that does anything..not holding my breath but at least its a constructive suggestion ^^

    Hi Order guys, just wanted to tell ya the solution for me:

    Delete the preferences files in the live\localdata folder. It solved the CTD issue for me. Most likely it contains some variables no longer applicable to this version of the game. (search for gameprefs.pref if ya cant find them)

    Just tried it I still get the same error.

    I did also find a text file called FAILEDSHADER.

    Depends. If you're using just the normal launcher from the install it's C:\Users\Default\Games\Cryptic Studios\Star Trek Online (IIRC it's been awhile since i used the default install)

    If it's ARC then it should be something like C:\Program Files (x86)\Perfect World Entertainment\Star Trek Online\

    I don't use default directories so thats my best guess.

    If you use ARC, then its c:programs/perfectworld/startrekonline/live/localdata/gameprefs.pref

    for me C:programs is split between programs and programsx86

    If you dont then its c:programs/cryptic/startrekonline/live/localdata/gameprefs.pref

    Try to delete/rename the following file and start STO again:
    c:\Users\Public\Games\Cryptic Studios\Star Trek Online\Live\Localdata\gameprefs.pref

    Warning:
    You're loosing your preferences if you delete this file.


    This works for me, but I get crappy character graphics, see here:

    Well, I can get to the graphics reset notification...then crash to desktop error 30191178.
    Woe is me.

    failure occurred.

    sigh, just going to wait til the developers actually care... they said flat out that they didn't in a recent thread because it affected a low number of players.

    Wondering how many customers its ok to lose before it becomes "worth it" to fix. 10? 100? 1000? Only thing more idiotic than letting potential customers leave because they are too much trouble to hang on to would be telling those same customers they aren't worth it.... oh wait... nevermind...

    This and the above is 100% false. I've never seen a dev anywhere say "Oh it only affects a small amount of people so we don't care" Now I've seen them say it's not a top priority, but never flat out don't care.

    They do care, and they will find time to look at it however if it's a #1 top priority or not is another issue.

    Well when S8 did this some of the guys went through the thread and Identified 300 separate posters if its one forum ID to an Account thats 300 Accounts that were effected.

    It is also crashing for me, the game was playing fine until i went to earth space dock. Now it wont let me start the game on that character. Always crashing when attempting to load.
    However if I load a different character it works fine.

    Got back into the character on spacedock by turning the graphics settings down to minimum possible. Left spacedock and put them back to my usual settings.

    well its not crashing for me..but ESD is now slow city for me.

    that said...not much I can offer in the way of help past my one suggestion.

    I've swapped cards already so it isn't that.

    Can't log in every time i try the loading bar goes to about 75%, then disappears and it goes to not responding.

    Is anyone surprised this happened, cuz im not. I wont be waiting for another 4 weeks for this to get fixed. U lost a customer Cryptic, ty. Im so pissed atm, this is pure BS by cryptics side.

    Following will happen:

    Cryptyc says in 1 hour this is on our side
    Cryptic says they dont know if its on our side
    Cryptic says between lines its on their side
    Cryptic says to still reinstall drivers and BS
    No fix for weeks. BS, plain BS

    Update: On a second try with deleting gameprefs i get the 30189532 ID

    Safe mode makes me crash on load, dont even make ti to loading screen

    Also getting this error "30191178", not suer what it is. I set launcher to start game in safe mode with graphics turned down, get the loading screen, all the way until the LoR screen then crash with error submit pop up box, click to submit and it disappears. Try it again, have the re-verify files, and same thing all over again. This sucks, will it really take them weeks to fix? ( I am pretty much new to game and haven't seen anything like this before.)

    I can't get onto game, it loads the legacy of romulus screen then goes into a windowed screen and becomes unresponsive. It didn't do this the last time I played, only since todays update. Anyone know of a fix for it or is this a more widespread issue.

    Well we can hope and prey that they get there fingers out and figure out what is causing it, cause honestly this is kinda ridiculous:(
