Crashing to desktop (Season 9 launch issue)

yay everyone, third time's NOT the charm... the infamous 'crash to desktop when loading' has occurred... yet again.


However, it's not the first loading screen with the bars... so that's progress!!

it's the next screen, the one with 'legacy of Romulus' Before it can reach that little screen where you try to connect to the account.

I know they're doing shard maintenance, but that would not cause a crash to desktop.


So any bets on this? 2 weeks? 3 weeks?


p.s. for those with short memories, it's the 30191178 bug

    Checked around and yes, STO was perfectly well aware of this bug, and had a month to fix it...

    Welcome back to the Order. I was one of the poeple who reported it on Tribble, we were told when it was reported that since only a few people were reporting this that they (Devs) would keep it in mind but were not going to do anything about it.

    current guess by Order members is we will be out of the game for 1 to 2 months.

    I'm getting some type of error...it crashes before I can do anything.

    Go to options set up your stuff again and then go to display and reset your resolution i maxed mine and its fixed now

    Hey, exact same error as me! Trying a beta Catalyst centre for my radeon card... see if that helps

    Yea this is good advice.........for those that can get into the game! Problem is WE cannot get into the game, it CtDs at the Legacy of Romulas Loading screen.

    there is rumours going abound that if you access the game via gameclient.exe it'll work

    Nope As soon as you posted it I tried it. same CtD at LoR Same error.

    no offence, but are you for real? this has happened in season 8 launch and so it happened in 8.5. The developers know exactly what is wrong.

    WOW they really want to bury this! We are no longer a bug but a Windows General Issue. Travis you forgot about the Oct update it happened then too!

    Askray this is the third or fourth time I have been locked out of the game I pay to play! Yes I am gold. I reported this when S9 went to Tribble, WE were told it wasn't going to be fixed. Maybe now that we are here and you get some more reports from this the devs can be bothered to do something.

    I am sorry for my attitude, it is not directed at you, but this is the THIRD or fourth time for me to have this happen.

    it's not a window issue! It's the EXACT SAME PROBLEM as the last two times.

    No, they don't. If they did it wouldn't KEEP happening in every launch it means it's something totally different.

    Also, the reason why it was moved here is obviously it's a computer issue or EVERYONE would be crashing to desktop as it'd be a critical gameplay bug issue. I'm sorry I get that you want it in a specific forum, but it's clearly only generalized to specific computers which means it needs to be in this forum.


    Also, if I wanted to bury this I'd just delete the thread, not continue to post on it ;)

    Hi Order guys, just wanted to tell ya the solution for me:

    Delete the preferences files in the live\localdata folder. It solved the CTD issue for me. Most likely it contains some variables no longer applicable to this version of the game. (search for gameprefs.pref if ya cant find them)

    (They should totally hire me to support. Or at least unban on their FB page for this ;D)
