you do know the ONLY reason swtor doesnt have a system like arc is they havent made it yet, give them time they will too. Anyway the point i was going to make was pwe has several games and many accounts link to more than one of those games, your saying the majority should bend to the will of the minority cause a few people who only play sto feel its not fair to have to use arc. as one of the majority who have accounts with multiple games by cryptic and pwe i find it VERY convenient to have arc, the system isnt perfect yet but it isnt finnished yet (you wouldnt walk into a car factory before they stuck the engine in and say "oh my car doesnt start its rubbish" would you). oh and just to put my point accross here "The needs of the many outway the needs of the few." so wake up kiddo, arc is here and if you hate it that much leave, simple as that really.

lol, maybe you should re-read your post...

    ??????

So you have figures that show the majority of Arc users find it "Fair?" (not sure what you mean by "Fair"), I assume these figures include players of other PWE games that are also not happy with this current half finished piecemeal steam clone?

It's nice to see that you consider yourself a part of a majority, how cool is that?... (lol)

"(you wouldnt walk into a car factory before they stuck the engine in and say "oh my car doesnt start its rubbish" would you)"

ROFLMFAO This car isn't still in the factory, they stole our working car and replaced it with an unfinished one. So yes it would be fair to say it's rubbish.

If we were offered the choice to join an Arc Beta test, then fine, but removing a good working model without fully working out the replacement is not good practice, take a look around the IT world, there is a reason why Beta products aren't released until the conclusion of testing/feedback/fixing iterations. The current state of Arc is not release quality, just look at the threads in this and other PWE forums.

And before you call me a hater understand this; I have Arc installed on one PC for testing, there are plus points and there are minus points. This is to be expected and I have some hope that there will be improvements, however I am not at all pleased with the way that they have implemented this change.

There should be an option to join the Beta test or to use the existing launcher/web presence, especially for new players, the number of threads/posts from new potential players finding it difficult or even impossible to get into STO should be a red flag to any development team.

We are customers and we have concerns which we wish to see addressed, our only voice is the forum. Now many marginalise forum users as being a vocal minority amongst the STO player-base, Ok, fine we are a minority, or are we a representative cross-section of the player-base as a whole?

What would I do differently if I had the lead on Arc development? Simple Holodeck remains on original system, Tribble and Redshirt locked into Beta Arc. Give people a choice and they'll praise you, take away choice and they will braise you... lol

On a related note, if you sign in using a Gmail account, make sure to leave out the periods before the @gmail.com if you have any.

I now have one account that is unrelated to anything because the Arc didn't recognize my email with the periods in, and I panicked thinking everything had been destroyed.

me niether, it does nothing that Steam/NC soft launcher/Battle.net launcher does not do really, and yeah, it takes up a slightly bigger chunk of computer memory, It is in beta, and Chrome/Firefox tabs are just as bad and yet no one says anything about them.

Steam allows you to create and use desktop shortcuts that allow you to bypass their interface completely. Does Arc allow this (I am actually asking as I have not used Arc)?

ARC allows you to use their system while turning off all the ARC features - effectively just making it a STO Launcher.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

Um, Steam games still use steam no matter what, you HAVE to have steam active to play any steam game.

That is not what I asked.

Of course Steam has to be running, but when using the desktop shortcut you don't have to open the Steam browser and wait for it to load and render before you can start STO's launcher.

It doesn't do that yet. At least, not that I've seen. If they don't, it should. Would be easier.

Anywho, I think I can see why people are crying "PWE isn't listening to us!": A lot of the naysayers are ultimately the true minority - there are 14 games running with PWE and while STO is certainly the loudest, it's probably the same people over and over proclaiming that ARC is the devil. IMO, I find the ultimate majority to be the "I don't care, I just want to play the game" people, of which I'm honestly part of.

    Hellloooooooo, feedback readers!

While y'all are planning what new "sucker them into our other games" pseudo-features to move heaven and earth implementing, this ARCgames.com web site could really benefit from something non-useless, like an Ignore List feature. Y'know, like y'all see the clear need for in the games?

Just sayin', of course. Feel free to go back to your grindstorming sessions and "how to make them grind other games" seminars. :P

I think thats what moderators are for, they police whats acceptable and not, if you placed people on ignore (take the bad men away, they offend me!) what would be the point of public discussion, look what that did to youtube. If you need to write on the board, you just gotta take the good with the bad. Not everyone will see eye to eye, but if you feel your point or post is too weak of a position to survive a debate, dont get mad and want to shut out negative or disagreeing responses...then you defeat the whole purpose of publicly posting. But that goes both ways, if you see something you dont agree with, just tell em why (I dont mean, "I hate him so hes wrong!")...if you see someone posting that you already dont like, stop to think (do i hate his/her post because I already find him offensive at first glance or does his/her submission deserve at least an honest once over in case something they say does merit your attention, and offer a legitimate point?) If you only had the stability to handle positive feedback you might not yet be ready to fill tough public speaking shoes like mine.

Ive been drilled since i first came here, people even shouting with pleasure in announcing they came to my thread to purposely derail it lol (cat haters!)

Look at me, I have made the point that I want to keep my original launcher, I gave reasons why, I backed up my claims by using info about the negative aspects (cryptic/pwe released) that made me come to this conclusion, and the positive ones as to how this would also benefit me and them should I retain my launcher. I stood by everything I said and never steered you wrong, going off and hanging on the companys every word to make sure I had my facts strait before posting. ...but also taking time to poke fun at ARC, because it was fun and easy to do.

You know, a neat idea just came to mind concerning this....

What if you implemented a reward system, since the "Nerfbaiters Division of Players" are always on the look out for reasons to tell on other players, lets put that dedication to good use; why not instead of relying on ARC (and letting us choose if we want it) you can setup a reward system to report goldsellers and earn dilithium or something for every positive find they report. Just play NSA and tag certain words, that appear in open chat or in the mail to weed em out? But be fair and just watch em and see if they are really doing the dastardly deed, or if someones just out for revenge or mischief.

As for cheats, if there where any in the game, the designers could just remove the cheat code triggers that activate them. I Know cheats where originally added in for testers before the game was (console games) where released for shortcuts to get to one point or another quicker to address bugs and fixes during the beta testing. Resourceful gamers found em and cheat code magazines, books and website are now booming. Too bad STO doesnt have DK mode. :3

But who would need to cheat, my 2 favorite cheats are already apart of the game, "unlimited ammo" and "unlimited lives" ...with that as a freebee you should be able to rule this game!

Ok, I ran Arc earlier today, just for the heck of it and I seem to have friend requests. So being the generally polite type I wanted to send a PM to the friendship seekers, in order to thank them for the requests and to inform them that I don't use Arc for socialising, but wouldn't mind being friends in game. It would seem that I can only send messages to people that I have "friended", therefore leaving me with only the ruder option of just rejecting these requests. Why can't we PM people not on our friend lists?

Why can't the "arc" form of the website show the current server status instead of making me try to log in when we are having frequent enough outages?

That would require them to write some code to let them know there's a problem. Currently, they wait until we tell them.

I downloaded and tried ARC. I am glad I only let it install into the folder I created and kept my original STO launcher. It does not improve anything. The old STO game launcher is much better. It is simple. I click it, game launches, done. All ARC does is add another step to the process. There are no features in ARC I need. That is what the website is for. I do not need a custom browser that just happens to also launch the game launcher. Hmmm, in the dictonary under re-dundant it says see re-dundant. That is exactly what ARC is, not or no longer needed or useful. I would much rather go to the perfect world website through my regular browser than to use ARC. My browser does not have to be open in the background while the game runs.

Even though I FINALLY got someone to take my MONEY to play (about a week of emails asking where the "buy monthly membership" was). I hate Arc, it's annoying and confusing and hard as hell to work with. Every time I make an in game (STO) ticket a GM tells me to go post in the forums......but I can't post in the forums because I can only make replies.....at this point Rift is looking pretty good. WTF is Arc even supposed to do?

With regard to the Tribble server character transfer page: can we get a scrollbar in the dropdown list if you have more than 8 characters on Holodeck? it would be good so that players with 10+ characters could transfer some characters that they wouldn't normally be able to select with what is there now.

Using ARC to play STO my pc is running at 100% after removing it and running the old launcher I am using only like 18% so where are the benefits of ARC. For me using it makes the games lag and I get very poor performance on everything else. So if you want feedback for me I say dump it in the garbage. Why was this even made? You know the old saying "if it ain't broke don't fix it" seems to be good advice here for saure.

That is something that will happen even if we dont want to. Steam was laggy as hell in their beginnings. It was a nightmare. Now, its the universal game plattform for everybody. So, yes , arc consumes a lot of resources, but it is a beta plattform, it will be improving with future updates. But still, of course, if you already have steam, arc is stupid.

I don't appreciate that when you install the arc launcher, it hijacks whatever installation you have to point to damn C:\Perfect World Entertainment\Star Trek Online_en. Leave my game alone, I didn't ask for you to hijack it that way. Now I have to use Steam to get things back to normal.

Edit: This is so damn annoying. Gladly I still have a copy of the game in my other laptop, it's just a pain to have to copy this back again. At least give an advanced option to keep things as-is. Why the hell did it have to sniff out where my old launcher was and TRIBBLE with it? Going to have to look through the registry because I'm guessing something was changed over there otherwise, I'll have to roll back my computer to two days ago.

Edit 2: A system restore brought back my installation to how it used to work. Will make it a habit to create a restore point before installing arc because of some "carrot" they put in front of me to try to use it.
