Season 8 Sounds sorta fun.... But how long will the fun last this time previous seasons gave me about 2 to 3 weeks of fun. Will there be enough for someone who is done done with the end game like I have bin for years? I don't want to sound rude but I'm not excited by what I read it sounds like more of the same exact focus they've always had. Most likely going to make everything new part of the pve queue so I don't even have to move my character around the world to go anywhere. Not thrilled.
I think people are choosing DS9 because they like it.
No one has given me a good reason why one should vote for them. (I am open minded when someone gives their point)
TNG , is probably quite a good choice. Granted it is nearly over 50 years (in STO time) since TNG but the Aliens are not impossible to access, and the aliens can come to us easily.
TOS, happened (again , in STO time) so long ago, if those aliens so much of a threat, would have they not visited us.
BUT TO BOTH OF THESE, the aliens which remained on the planet, we can visit ... and have another shot!

For things that are ultimately finite in use, "Consumed on use" to quote a STO phrase, I hoarder "until a rainy day. Thing is, even when I am board, I cannot face doing them. That is why I have only done about 10 missions (I am VA) and only about 7 different types of PvEs.
Hopefully I'll come back from my break; this break is fun; I play intellectual games.
Tier 1 Mine
Tier 1 Embassy (1/3 of the way through Tier 3, just haven't done the crazy unlock of T2)
Tier 3 Starbase (T3 on Eng/Sci/Tac)
116 Fleet Members quite a few with multiple toons. Was slow before the new holding and now pretty much dead. That's just how the fleet is I know but when you contribute so much would you then move to another fleet you don't know and might be no different?
I have 6 Fed, 2 KDF, and 1 Rom toons. I had about 3 Fed and 1 KDF before F2P, guess the new toons were due to Fleet requirements. Before F2P the toons were to counter the no end game content. Seems the end game content is now fixed but they don't see the issue with the different fields and races they have introduced. I don't mind grinding for gear on my toons but grinding to unlock gear that has been unlocked on other toons.. to then have to grind to pay for it.. just frustrating. Why not make the traits unlocked account wide with gear but you need to input x marks?

Guess my main issue would be all of the old issues and features that do not seemed to get addressed or updated.
There's the Poll and that discussion...but there's also the general discussion of the article itself.
While the article is obviously not a detailed plan involving everything that is going to be taking place through January, I can't help but notice the following...
PvP...
S8 was going to be about PvP.
PvP was going to be a big part of S8.
PvP was going to be a part of S8.
PvP is not even mentioned for S8.
Yes, S8 became LoR and it was understandable that S8 would not be about PvP - so it became S9. Then it was split between S9-S10. With us being back to S9 being S8...
..is there any reason for those players that try to enjoy STO for the PvP should stick around for S8? Not that they should stick around for S9 or later...no, is there any reason that they should stick around for S8...?
I am fine with anything added as long as you never ever ever put anything more from JJ Trek here. JJ Trek has it's own game and that's fine, You want JJ Trek play that.
How about follow up to TNG episode with thos parasites that invaded Star fleet command that sent a signal out. The current batch of KDF Ships have far to few Tac Boff slots that are low in rank or few in number. Seriously a max rank of Lt. for most Klink Tac boff slot.Case in point the K'tanco Battlecruiser ONE Tac Boff rank max is Ensign yet this "battlecruiser" has two ops Boff that one is higher in rank then the Tac plus two Ops console slots versus one Tac. ONE Lt. Rank Tac and three Ops one Commander one Lt. Commander and one Lt.! It gets worse with theNegh'Var "Heavy Battlecruiser" ONE Lt. Rank Tac and three Ops one Commander one Lt. Commander and one Lt. and Two Science and 4 FOUR! Ops consoles!! They are WARSHIPS not all purpose barges like the feds. You wonder why until recently players were reluctant to play Klingons? This is a HUGE factor. Add DOT without nerfing the initial DPS for Klingon Disruptor ship weapons. As described in canon Klingon weapons set up a harmonic vibration (sonic) on impact that shook the enemy ship till it fell apart. Direct translation is "Shake it till it falls apart gun". which to me means the vibration lasted for a time period after the weapon impact. Sort of like the Romulan Plasma weapons. Even in the TOS Klingon ship weapons were nasty!
I'd like to see a storyline that uses scaled missions based on the number of players, so like Voyager was alone, the mission would be a challenge ... but if Voyager had friends, scale up the missions to maintain the challenge and teamwork.
I'd also like to see an increase in maximum rank to Admiral [or possibly Fleet Admiral].
If they made the reputation unlocks account bound and not character that would make me immensely happy. Artificially inflating play time is just asinine in my opinion.
But that's why I hardly play anymore, hopefully this stuff will improve in the upcoming months. Just completely bored of playing and don't really have time to do stuff over and over again on more then one character.
"Maxing" out one character took me 2 years, not doing it again.
wow I can't wait for a new PvE map to grind for the new rep. Sure thing going to be balanced around romulan tac, and fed eng.
Don't let the broken mess of unbalanced meta and powercreep stop you. We need moaaaaaaar of this.
Best of all. The ep stopped pretending to have PvP on menu all together. Given the past 3 years of broken promises and total neglect I guess we can count that as progress.
So, while I voted for TNG in the poll, what I'd be most interested in seeing is more development of the plot threads already in motion.
- I'd really like to see more missions about the Klingon-Federation war.
- I'd be interested in seeing a continuation of Species 8472's infiltration of the Alpha Quadrant with maybe a bit of resolution to it.
- I would, love, love, love to see more of the Tal Shiar's desperation and the crumbling of the Star Empire.
- But most of all, I'd really like to see a further deepening of the Iconian agenda and a little extra ambiguous teasing about their whos, whys, and hows.*
Hence the TNG vote, since it covers most of my list. :P
*The Iconians were effective while they were in use because the best we've ever gotten is a silhouette of something that might have been an Iconian, but could just as easily have been an emissary race, like the Vorta were for the Founders.
Ultimately, that's why the Iconians have been cool, enigmatic, and left me wanting more, while the execution of the Tholians (who were an alien-enigma race in ToS) ultimately left me cold. (Ha ha...)
EDIT: Also, wow. There is a lot of bile dripping from some of these response posts. C'mon, guys-- being ferociously uncivil to the devs isn't going to make them want to read your post, much less make them want to do anything about it.
... hopefully this edit doesn't derail the thread...

because i want to see a featured series involving the temporal cold war. I like to time travel back to help out captain archer in some way. also between the renewed borg offensive, the (upcoming) return of the iconians and the klingon war the current day is also a perfect time to strike bringing the federation to ruin at a critical junction in history instead of preventing its formation.
there is just to little content involving that era. ( actually none that i can think of)
my favorite is actually voyager but since there is already quit a bit of content of there involving it i voted enterprise instead.
however I would like to see more content involving voyager. preferably fleshing out the zone behind the gamma orionis transwarp conduit whit kazon, vidians, ocompa, etc. geared toward endgame whit the goal of establishing a permanent presence for your faction(federatio or klingon)
THE NEW CRAFTING SYSTEM IS TERRA-BAD First of all it's not even a crafting system! It's just a dumb game system that's nothing more than a glorified slots machine.
second the "special items" you hope will be the saving the saving grace are messed up to.
Thank you for an ever-improving game. No, it's far from perfect, but it's an excellent return on the investment I've made by keeping me interested and entertained.
I think PvP is the big missing piece of the puzzle here, and really needs to be revamped.
Would love a Cardi faction, but not looking forward to grinding through.
What I'd really like to see? Actual exploration: puzzle-solving, first-contact-making, dilemma-inducing, brave-new-world-making exploration. THAT'S what Trek is all about.
After playing through as a Federation, KDF, and Romulan character, I came to the realization that the endgame will never change. Regardless about how many factions are released, the endgame content will be exactly the same across all of them. Once you have played as a Federation tactical, engineer, and science officer, you have also played as a KDF and Romulan tactical, engineer, and science officer.
"Legacy of Romulus" gave us some great episodic missions; however, the after faction missions and endgame content are one big feedback loop. Players are literally buying and grinding the same endgame content a hundred times over. All the reputation systems function the same. All the reputation system passives are the same. All the reputation system store items are the same. All the after faction missions begin and end the same way. All the fleetbases function and level the same way.
Outside of playing a different species, wearing different clothes, and driving a new ship, what are players doing differently? Players are working through the same exact stfs, reputation systems, and fleetbases holdings, which they have experienced as a Federation and KDF officer. Virtually nothing is different.
Players are grinding through the same exact content a billion times over.
Its getting a little boring.
Instead of learning a moral lesson about humanity, similar to the themes found in "Star Trek", the only thing I will remember about this game is the repetitious grinding, never-ending (reputation & fleetbase) cool down timers, and excessive resource requirements. All the negative aspects of this game are overshadowing all the good.
I think that is rather sad.
I look forward to the Iconian episodes, for they will be the heart of the next season. If the missions in "Legacy of Romulus" are any indication, the Iconian storyarch will be a fantastic addition to "Star Trek: Online". I know Cryptic will do a great job.
When it comes to new fleet and reputation system holdings, I could careless about their overall existence. I want "Star Trek: Online" to become fun again. I want to enjoy my time with friends. My overall goal for next season is to have fun with fleet and friends. I am pushing for a grind-light season eight.

actually if you have done the reputation on one character you have done it on all of them. id rather unlock these as a player(account wide) than as a character.
i would go as far as let me just unlock everything once and allow me to claim on any character, however just having the tiers unlocked account wide would be an improvement.

I think it is a big mistake for STO to go in the direction of fighting the Iconians. They are an extinct species and do not exist any longer. Anyone who says they have found evidence of their continued existance is clearly an undine posing as an officer trying to undermine Federation, KDF, and Republic efforts.
It would be better for Cryptic to continue focusing on the KDF and Federation war in order for both factions to be weaker militarily, that way it would be easier for an invasion on a massive scale to divide and conquer. Not that it would be from the Iconians, because as previous said they are extinct and nothing more than myth and rumor.
Continue killing each other. If you do see the Iconians (which you won't since they no longer exist), tremble before them.

Send me your data that says the Iconians are dead... the preservers are older and some of them are still alive :O
My guess is that they combine most if not all marks to provide more variety of game play choices, because players have been asking for more choice and because they don't want to make a new currency for every new rep.
I feel this somewhat hidden poll is missing one particular era or "series" that should be in its own category...
The Motion Picture era, as in all the TOS films, which have their own specific look and feel that is separate from the TOS era. This does not include the TNG films, as they're pretty much TNG/DS9 as it is.
I have a feeling that might gather more votes than TOS by itself. It does include vessels and other material not necessarily seen or heard of in later stories that might be of interest.
*I* still think a TMP set of ship interiors in a pack with other TMP gear/appearance stuff would be awesome, for instance, and were well in use into TNG, not to mention as redresses, major and minor.
Anyway, I voted TOS while meaning TMP, though there were some TOS stories I'd like to see follow-ups of...
We even hope to finally tackle Exploration in a much better way!
I truly hope so! Since LoR's missions to save the embassy (tactical), help with repairs (eng), and explore new romulus (science) I've been hoping they'd expand on the explorer missions.
It would be nice if they took out the sudden ship surprise missions and replace them with Aid the planet missions. We need lots more of those with a much higher Diplomatic Commendation Reward so we're not locked in doing solely Doff missions everyday.
Also if they do intend on putting more Voyager series content into the game could we have someone over there improve the defense of both the Intrepid Ship as well as the Ablative armor console so that shields go down AFTER the armor is on in full so there isn't this half second of being blown to bits by a lucky shot?! That would actually make that console worth using! thanks!
If its anything like Nimbus , with other players actually moving about real time, then that would be kinda cool
I often feel kind of alone when playing missions, everything feels kinda isolated, and at the same time crowded whenever i come to sector space , its kind of a bizzare situation, to approach a systems orbited by half a dozen Vice admirals( these guys are everywhere, how many admirals does starfleet need exactly?) , and then t be told in the mission, theres nobody around to help you and i'm all on my own
( i know that having other unknown players getting in the way would be a potential problem, but i have come to enjoy more open world stuff , like Battlestar Galactica online, where you can meet people at random, which makes the game feel more dynamic and real, not something STO can adopt game wide i know BUT i am very much in favor of more Nimbus like areas where players can intermix )
One other thing i would potentially like to see is some dynamic frontline shifting, how long has the War gone on for, and yet the frontlines haven't moved an inch, perhaps it would be cool to have the frontlines shift every few weeks, perhaps even special PVP events( sort of like the borg invasion of defera ) in which one faction invades a core world, and players must rally to defend or invade said chosen world, nothing permanant, but players could be rewarded for their occupation or ressistance of said occupation
These are the Voyages on the STO forum, the final frontier. Our continuing mission: to explore Pretentious Posts, to seek out new Overreactions and Misinformation , to boldly experience Cynicism like no man has before.......
Voted for Enterprise, because I also like to see more of that era. To that topic most things were already said before. Although I really like TNG for their Diplomacy and Exploration.
I think it is a big mistake for STO to go in the direction of fighting the Iconians.
A direct fight doesn't have to be, just advancement with the story-arc. What happened to Sela? What do the Iconians really want? There could be really great "Investigative Missions" without fighting them directly or without fighting at all.
Regardless about how many factions are released, the endgame content will be exactly the same across all of them.
I have to agree. Doing Romulan reputation an my Romulan character doesn't feel good to me. Why do the Romulans have to gain Access to this? They can fly around in Warbirds, but not using their own tech? In words of reputation: being a VA of the Romulan Republic is not enough to grant me their best gear...
With Omega being a joint venture of Federation and Klingon empire, I can live with same tech on both sides. But to gain more Variety to the factions there could be slight to even big differences to each factions reputation system - at least for future reputations. Just an example: The Federation could research/acquire a more defensive console, while Klingons an offensive one.
But lets see. It was said the rep-system would be altered, so I am hopeful.
To the story-side: why not making one mission - maybe the last one - special to each faction? This could be great, cause each faction has different motivation and views on their findings (which could also be covered throughout the missions, just like the different paths for sci, eng and tac).
Faction-exclusive episodes would be great, but - considering the blog about creating missions - will be too much work, resulting in lower quality to finish them in time or more time to wait for them (although they could be delivered in an "Star Craft 2"-style, with each faction served at another season ).
Some more wishes:
- an explorable gamma quadrant. there is a wormhole leading over there, lets get to use it more often and more freely
- seeing the votes for Voyager: exploring the delta quadrant shouldn't be that hard. I can transwarp to ESD or DS9 in seconds, why not to delta quadrant? My ship could get stranded by doing a corrupted transwarp, but with knowledge of the transwarp conduit tech, it could be the goal to build one - throughout the episodes missions: Starting with exploration to find a location/future member of the Federation... and ending with a transwarp to home. Just like a Voyager-miniseries
- if there are new ships: aside from different consoles and console-slots I really like to see different functions of each type. I am little bit upset not to have subsystem targeting on my science odyssey although my character is a sci. If its called a science cruiser, i expect it to have proper science-abilities - just as an example, I hope my point is clear enough.
Last words:
I really thank Cryptic for working this hard. Sometimes its not easy I think. So keep up your work, STO will grow even better over time.
“Change is the essential process of all existence.” – Spock
First off, I love the game. This Romulan expansion is amazing.
Now, to get straight to the point. Ill start off with saying I voted for ST: VOY for the poll. Star Trek VOY wasn't my favorite of the series, but they did run across a whole new bunch of alien races and technology that was quite cool. Also, I am dreaming of flying a Maquis raider, and this might be the only chance I have of seeing to it that it happens.
Now in the blog, it mentions, and I quote (copy and paste it): "...along with several new events designed to challenge maximum level captains by facing off against a deadly new enemy that was introduced in Star Trek: Voyager." Well, I have narrowed down the 3 races in which I think it could be is the Kazon, Vidiian, and the Krenim. The Kazon is in my opinion the least likely to be the "dangerous enemy introduced in ST: VOY" because they had no knowledge of technology such as transporters and replicators until their first contact with Voyager. The Virdiian on the other hand could be a "Fun" new enemy in STO. The Virdiian is a savage race, that had highly sophisticated devices in which was a combination weapon, medical scanner and surgical instrument which was used to attack victims, and harvest their compatible organs and transport them to where they could be transplanted into other Vidiian. Their Star ships are also very cool looking, and they have their own special weaponry called a Hypothermic charge, which is a mounted energy weapon which effectively destroyed the Voyager's weapon array, allowing them to use their grapple technology on them successfully and board it. The Krenim was the race to introduce Chroniton Torpedoes to star trek. In the show, these torpedoes where extremely powerful, and in star trek online Chroniton torpedoes feel so under-powered. The Krenim Imperium had cool star ships as well, but if they are brought into STO, they better come equipped with their own special advanced chroniton torpedoes that I would actually consider "bracing for impact" for.
Now, on the very next line of the blog, it says, and I quote: "We will also be introducing a new fleet holding and updated reputation system that plays a more integrated role in the entire season. The new Reputation will represent a major shift in how the reputation system rewards players, taking into account much of the feedback and comments about the existing reps by adjusting the way project and reward structures are integrated, hopefully making it much more approachable than some of the previous systems."Well. I want STO to make the Reputation systemACCOUNT BOUND!!!!!. Call me crazy, but currently I have 16 toons. I Would not, Could not, and WILL NOT maintain 3 different reputations on 16 toons, when each type of reputation takes about 36 days to complete. If reputation was account bound, then life would be easier for EVERYBODY. Even if you had to make the rep system a more "daunting" grind then it already is, It would be much better to only have to do 1 huge grind instead of, (in my case) 16 big grinds.
I am going to mention one of my biggest pet peeves about the game. Please totally redo, and improve the game mechanics of ramming speed. A Mk 1 common quality photon torpedo deals more damage against a full health facing shield than a defiant buffed with Attack Pattern Alpha, Omega, Evasive maneuvers, and deuterium surplus, and the Console - Universal - Impulse Capacitance Cell with ramming speed....... parking your near-dead defiant on top of a tactical cube and abandoning ship even does more damage then ramming it. You die with much much more honor ramming....
As much as I'm more of a Fed kind of guy, there are way too many new federation ships coming out compared to the lack of KDF ships.(and I guess you could say RR). Other than the Kamarang, the newest (end-game) ship added to the KDF (C-store) was the bortas'qu...... and that was the 2nd Year Anniversary of STO..... While the Feds get, The Vesta, the Kumari, the Armitage Heavy Escort Carrier, (the Steamrunner). I know the majority of players of STO are Feds, but maybe people want to play fed more than KDF because the Feds have more variety when it comes to ship choices?
That's pretty much the main things I wanted to address.
If you didn't want to read through my whole message and you want a summary of it, here it is: I love LOR. I voted Voyager for poll. I think the dangerous new enemy introduced in ST: VOY is either the Kazon, Virdiian, or the Krenim. I WANT REP TO BECOME ACCOUNT BOUND to help with multiple characters. I also want the Game mechanics of Ramming speed to be re-done and improved. Finally, Feds get way too many new ships compared to the KDF and RR.
Once I get a solid hour of free time, I have got to update my signature, with tasteful, but useful words that the rest of the community would benefit from hearing, or at least get a good laugh out of.
The REAL state of the game: Bugs not being fixed still, server crashes, downtime for emergency maintenance right after a stability update, more crashes, mail items deleted and not fixed when they said mail had been fixed (millions in EC lost thanks)
But he never mentions any of this in the SOTG announcements...

I still am hoping that one of these days we will see mention of some PvP updates. I think that is something the community would greatly want and is long over due for tune ups and additions. Including open world pvp.

How can I put this kindly?
EVE is still going.
Let people enjoy their STO the way it is.
Not sure kindly was the adverb you were looking for when describing your post...
If people wanted to play EVE, they would be playing EVE.
That's not saying what you think it's saying.
edit: BTW, nice sig:

More ships from 22 century, like the Intrepid type.
More inspired mission from ENT, TOS, TNG, VOY, DS9.
A three type Fedaration Escort, like the Odyssey, Vesta Classes.
Fleets skin material for all ships.
I'd also like to see an increase in maximum rank to Admiral [or possibly Fleet Admiral].

First of all it's not even a crafting system! It's just a dumb game system that's nothing more than a glorified slots machine.
second the "special items" you hope will be the saving the saving grace are messed up to.
Thanks again!
First of all it's not even a crafting system! It's just a dumb game system that's nothing more than a glorified slots machine.

On thing I'd like to see is episodes give marks.
I am curious about this "Space Adventure Zone" though...
Kazon are too weak and unpopular.
The Videons are cured.
The Kremin Imperium is a middle power at best in this time line and they have no reason to bother.
Vaadwars are an out of date spent force.
Going directly to war is not the Think Tanks style. More likely to make a deal with someone else to do it for them.
This basically leaves the Voth.
They have the motive, earth is there homeworld.
They have the power with thier city ships.
They have the tech.
The planetary weapon is probably an outpost for resource extraction.
They're from Voyager.
And lastly there was talk about some connection between them and the Gorn.
Plus it gives human an ironic commonality with the Xindi. There are primate Terrans and Reptilian Terrans.
Just a thought but Voth City Ships could be interesting in the Spaces Adventure Zone if its not in Fluidic Space.
A direct fight doesn't have to be, just advancement with the story-arc. What happened to Sela? What do the Iconians really want? There could be really great "Investigative Missions" without fighting them directly or without fighting at all.

The new Reputation will represent a major shift in how the reputation system rewards players, taking into account much of the feedback and comments about the existing reps by adjusting the way project and reward structures are integrated, hopefully making it much more approachable than some of the previous systems." Well. I want STO to make the Reputation system ACCOUNT BOUND!!!!!.
But he never mentions any of this in the SOTG announcements...
