Cryptic did not only randomly choose. It has been stated, in this thread, that regular Tribble testers were given priority, and then the rest of the 1,000 players invited to Closed Beta were randomly determined. Thus the best way to get invites is to regularly test.
The only post in this thread that mentions this is by yourself. So is there any official source on this?
A little clarification since I've seen a few questions about who got in the beta and why. First, as dStahl mentioned, we'll be getting more players in before the launch of Legacy of Romulus, including an open beta period. We can't wait for you all to be able to try it out and sincerely appreciate how excited you are by it.
For this first round of Closed Beta invites, they were sent to players who had tested on Tribble during the past several weeks since it's been updated with the new code for Legacy of Romulus, and those who had received Tribble Testing Rewards in the past for the more recent Tribble test weekends. This criteria allowed us to find players who have been testers in the past with the goal of them testing the new content and providing constructive feedback in the forums.
Again, we'll be getting many more of you in as soon as we can, as we know there are many of you who also can't wait to try it out and leave your feedback. Thanks for understanding and see you on Tribble soon!
Cheers,
Brandon =/\=
This is from earlier in the thread. For the person who wanted the official confirmation.
The invites were programmatically generated based on criteria we were looking for and somewhat random from there. Round 1 of closed beta is very small and we've maxed out the capacity on TRIBBLE with queues to get in.
We are going to be adding more people as we get closer to launch and there will be an open beta if you don't get one of the invites prior to launch.
We appreciate that not everyone gets an invite and we're sorry. There are many many captains out there and this is a very focused test until we're ready to get the open beta started.
Thank you for your patience. May 21 is coming up fast!
And the one about the programmatically generated part from DStahl.
great glad to hear your testing I would love an invite and will provide alot of input in regards to the play information you will want I am a very active player thanks
At this point LoR launches just a little over 2 weeks from now. People might as well wait for it to go live and enjoy the experience on the Holodeck rather then dealing with the buggy/no VO version on Tribble.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

Might want to go recheck, they have had a lot of voice overs added in with the last two patches
it seems clear then that cryptic are not getting anything off me and i can live that just fine unless they change their mind and throw me a bone so i can do some testing. otherwise i may jump on the romulan adventure a day or two after launch depending if cryptic sort their own mess out behind the scenes with NWO and the servers to all 3 games or whenever.
for now my focus is elsewhere until said problems are addressed.
T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW. Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.

Yeah though, not long to go now.....
Sure, the first 20 levels have VOs now, after 3 weeks of testing, but do the next 20 levels have them too?
My point is really to say, with only 16 days left we might as well wait for the least buggy version that will be coming to Holodeck rather then downloading 7 gigs of Tribble and then dealing with all the Beta bug issues.
Ultimately here's what's going to happen: Cryptic will Open Beta LoR on Tribble. 75,000 people are going to start complaining about why the Tribble server is loading the 7 gigs at about 1 bit per hour - due to 75k all trying to download it at once. Then everyone's going to start complaining about the lag because Tribble wasn't designed to hold 75k people. And then the Tribble server is going to crash and everyone's going to tell us how incompetent Cryptic is for not being able to keep a server up. And then everyone's just going to be really disappointed when it comes to Holodeck and they have to do everything they just did all over again.
So you might as well wait.

Yeah I'm just going to hang out and wait for the official release. Unless they offer some sort of reward for testing like the normal seasons. Then I might hop on and mess around. In the meantime though I find that I really don't want to play STO atm since I know all this good stuff is coming down the line. So I figure I'll take a break and catch up on some other games until LoR hits. That way I can avoid some burn out and be ready for some STO when it comes. Seems like a good plan to me anyway heh.

You have a point, the other missions don't even exist at the moment....
With 16 days left, that is nowhere near enough time to get the other missions tested. We both know this
And as you rightly pointed out, it will be hell when they open it up to everyone. It will crash, and it wont be remotely ready for going live.
Though we both know it will anyways....

Someone needs to beta test or all you get is a buggy release. I beta tested and I don't feel like it ruined the experience and I'm perfectly willing do it all over again with VOs (yes i do know that Vos were added but I leveled up before that). All i feel that I've gained from the beta testing is the combat style of the Romulan faction witch will help me when it does go live and the ships finding out what you need from your ally and what they actually give you. I feel like it's given me better skills for when I do play it on live. As for the bugs really only one bug i have a problem with and it just has you reselect your BOFFs. This is annoying but it only adds another step when you enter a system and can be worked around.
All and all I am exited for LoR they fix that bug and I'll be perfectly happy with what they made even if there were no VOs.
In one of His informal chats in-game last week, Dstahl said that They would probably be upping the Beta Test to Phase II (Round-2??) by this coming weekend (5/11-12)...
He was kinda vague (as usual) but He did indicate that They would be inviting more folks to try it out on Tribble at that time.

Phase II?! Oh no. That means they are probably going to nix the update and turn it into a feature length movie to compete with Star Wars... (please tell me some Trekkies/Trekkers got that one).
But seriously I'm looking forward to the LoR and hope they get that new story content on there because I would rather not have to head into a half-finished, hastily-built species in 15 days. Even if they had to delay LoR a few weeks to get more testing in and make the content good, I would rather take that then end up in a world that still has bugs on holodeck that don't get ironed out until 3-4 weeks later.

Commander Sonak would probably have preferred that they hadn't tried to compete.

The main problem is that hackers can simply change the mail of the game Perfect World, so two times validation means nothing. For lose accounts are Perfect World's faults, because the protection of Perfact World are not perfact and all accounts of the game Perfect World are not safe. The person of stealing account has huge amount of account's password for the game.
OR, don't give out your password. Easiest solution to the problem.
