What, we're not allowed, as paying customers (via buying this stuff they peddle), to complain when they do silly things? :P

Don't understand why people are upset about the boxes. If you don't want it don't open it. If you loot one just discard it.

It's a little silly that THREE Tholian vessels will be available to the masses...

Bug/Galor/D'Kora/Freighter I was cool with those and kindasorta made sense (Actually REALLY wanted the D'Kora and even said when the cardie boxes were around if a D'kora showed up I'm Getting it.. made it a point to get one on the exchange when they did)

...but a vessel designed for a species that has different physical and environmental requirements is just silly (not saying it's not cool and I might even be picking one or two up -- but still silly).

Also.. wonder if these will have a unique bridge?

I'm really sick of these locked boxes. Just put the ships up for sale already or make a worth-while and fun way to obtain them through game-play - oh I don't know, maybe a mission reward like what was done with the Odyssey?

I'm really loosing faith, quickly, at all this *gimme your money* gimicks for almost EVERY NEW SHIP... This mentality needs to be reassessed. Seriously.

These Lobi Crystals need to be "Account Bound" and able to be either mailed to our alternate characters on the same account or transferred through the account bank.

See, this type of post and other's who say the same thing, really don't get it.

Firstly, how many people are actually saying they want things for free? This statement seems to be the clarion cry of those defenders of Cryptics "shady" tactics (shady as in not telling you the odds), yet it's never backed up as people are not asking for things for free.

Secondly, people want to spend money on their enjoyment. What they don't want is the "risk" of spending money on something that they may not get. That's the thing that your post and others like it, don't get.

This is no longer a "We need to keep things rare because of CBS", it's now a lets milk them for what we can.

Why not simply put the rare ships in the C-Store and charge a large premium price. Isn't that fair? No complaints from anyone there?

    What am I missing?

I get a company has to make money, but is it really that desperate that they have to make it a lottery now?

I'd just like to add my concern about the addition of the assault cruiser, star cruiser and vor'cha into this mix. While I am happy that Cryptic is indeed trying to make these boxes more palitable, I remember Priority One where Al Rivera said that faction specific ships would not be in lock-boxes. Now we do see ships that are 'faction specific' ships in the lockboxes. I feel a little like I've been lied to. I'm especially worried because of the Fleet Sovereign removal from the fleet shipyards. This was a ship that I was looking forward to in a C-store variant at the very least and if it turns out that this lock-box variant is how Cryptic intends for this most popular of ships to be distributed I am extremely disappointed.

technically we don't know if the mirror ships are faction specific, its just an educated guess on our part, well some peoples part.

Well, everyone guessed right, its Tholians.

And lockboxes don't bother me, I don't buy them. Still don't like having them shoved down my throat, but all it means is, I don't put a penny into this game anymore. There's nothing of value on the z-store as new ships have gone so high in price its not worth it, even to someone who collected almost every ship that was released, nothing being added, and other people are putting enough in to lockboxes to cover my share. :P

That's why it's a mirror faction ship, they found a loophole. hopefully this is not the only version we will see.

In order to assuage some of the lock box hatred, they should code it so that roughly 5% of the time a master key would drop rather than a lock box.

ship prices went up once, that was when F2P started, and if you got them all already then no need to get more now is there.

Wait a minute.... SWORD? They're going to give us SWORD? Tholian Crystalline Sword! C'mon! Are we still playing Star Trek?

Can you imagine captain Picard walking with SWORD in one hand and phazer in another? Or maybe we're gonna see knights, elves and castles, aren't we?

This is Star Trek, not WoW... It means "SCIENCE fiction". SCIENCE! Not fantasy...

    Jeeeeezzzz...

Come on now, what is the point of new ships?

Where is the content to use them on!

I am all for STO making money, that is only right. I want the game to continue, I want wages to be paid, and I want profit for those involved! But I dont want to be shafted from behind anymore than the next person!

Lockboxes are fine in theory! make them RARE drops, like maybe 1 in 10 STF Elite a single rare box drops and you roll highest to get it if you are lucky.

Put a fantastic reward in the rare lockbox, 100% you get the ship or super awesome rare console.

Put the key on sale at 1000+ Zen no problem.

I will grind out the same content again and again then happily for that rare chance of getting a Dropbox, and buy a key and get a ship!

Make White Lock Boxes. Put the rest of the TRIBBLE you want in them. Put keys to these on the store at 10 Zen each (The rest of the TRIBBLE is barely even worth that).

Now I will pick up these as well and open them whenever I feel lucky. You see, I will happily use EC for these cheap keys. So some folks will buy keys to sell for EC (as is the nature of the economy in STO) and I will buy them from my EC obtained through grind!

But without this dramatic change, I am afraid only one word sums this season and lockbox change up!

    FAIL!

Honestly... that whole page on Lockboxes just says...

" We understand from your feedback that you have not enjoyed taking it from behind over Lockboxes...SO we have decided to use some Lube to ease the pain whilst we continue taking you up the TRIBBLE and we have increased the chance of a hand around in the process..enjoy!";)

Well, remember that there is a faction in this game that has a very strong cultural preference for ritual melee.
Yes, I know. To tell you the truth I simply forgot about them. But still...

    1. Those guys used melee weapons in "ritual" combat (family argues, regaining honour after insult, etc.). I think they had disruptors in most real combat cases. However I may be wrong...
    2. There is a Federation officer on the screenshot. When I saw it I felt like hit by a brick right between eyes. It just doesn't seem right to me. Sorry...

The way the blog is worded lends me to believe that they are faction specific. since the blog put (Fed) and (KDF) after each of the ships this lends the impression of the ships being faction specific.

Plus I rather doubt CBS would allow KDF to be flying a Sovereign and Starfleet flying a Vor'cha. From comments made, they're already nervous enough about the faction neutral ships as is.

Like others I saw this coming. Maybe the rewards will be better but I remain skeptical, hopefully I'll be proven wrong.

Also ,like others, I would like to see some story based missions to play. I (and I can only speak for myself) get bored rather quickly with this mindless grinding.

they are still not good enough:( , we want tholian chainsaw , two-handed hammer of doom , a tholian mount(big flying crystall) , tholian armour , tholian ship weapons , tholian ship gear......hmmm still not good enough.

you have bunch of races in game , timetravel , ships from shows that can be bring into game and lots of other stuff.
Then why you make these tholian lockbox , i would gladly see a 21st century lockbox with stuff from that time than these tholian junk.

Jem'Hadar, Cardassian and Ferengi I was able to swallow, hell even Breen or Defari would've been ok. Tholian, a species who doesn't like contact with other species would never allow their ships to fall into the hands of other species. Seriously, I like that Cryptic is trying, but seriously are any of the Dev's fan's of Trek? Not the one with Lightsabres/Death Stars or Minbari/Narn but with Klingons and Vulcans.

This might be the 25th century and I am all for new things rather than the lame canon lack of imagination excuse but this is a little too much for even me to accept.

How about you add these Tholian ships to a new campaign for the Federation, Klingon want more Klingon like missions with Undine, Federation, Hur'q, Romulans etc, and make a new Lockbox that has say a Defari ship or something.

The whole thing should have been a doff pack. Doff pack = win, lock box = fail.

if the loot list of those new boxes is as crapy as the other ones i think they end up in the same spot bottom of the shreder

    Take cover! Players are ragin'.

I'll admit, this is a bit of a disappointment, but if they're making the rewards worth more (with a greater chance of getting those rewards) I'll give it a chance, I know some people won't but I will.

This is probably an indication that their attempt to attach these rewards to the DOff packs was not as successful as the plain lock box concept.

Hey, Borticus or Branflakes, I'd like to trouble you for a quick question.

When the new Tholian Lockboxes arrive, will the lobi store continue to contain the existing items or will the new store only contain items related to the Tholian Lockbox event?

If the old items are to be swept away it'd be pretty handy to know in advance so we can buy the items we want before they disappear!!

    Thank you.

it wasnt enough for them just to put these items into C-store...

it will generate loads of money for cryptic/pwe

    hell i buy a lot

but like i said its not enough...

they just force the gamble down ure throat...

    "oh u want a bugg ship huh ? "

buy keys and gamble for it ! (thats the strategy) only they wrapped it a bit more legal for the kids who play among us by saying : we are not forcing u to buy anything...

no but if u want something special be damn sure theyll make u spend !

i think they need to stop this nonsence
