Yes, and this is not it.

I gladly spent in excess of 30,000 cp/zen on reinforcement packs. I spent 20,000 this weekend alone. Thats in excess of $300 dollars, and made enough from the sales of items to purchase things I truly wanted like the Jem'Hadar. Everyone walked away a winner. Cryptic sold a ton, and I was a happy customer that got what he desired.
I spent 0 zen purchasing keys.
I will not buy a single key.
{Sigh}
Why won't they go away. Why won't they offer both schemes as a means to cater for both markets......
When I go to Burger King, I don't expect to pay and then hope I get lucky and actually get a burger.

No, you see when you buy a lockbox you buy one knowing that there's a chance you may get a ship and a chance you may not. That makes your analogy stupid.
They listen to people, make changes as people ask and give the opportunity for quite a varied amount of ships to appear and people still aren't happy?
Hmmm.
I'm getting the impression that there are too many people who expect cool new ships to be developed and given away free.
Out of curiosity, do all the people who whinge and complain about lockboxes and costs also go to the stores and complain that the stores don't give out new products free of charge, too?
You're exaggerating the problem.
It's not so much that people want the ships free, they just don't want to roll the dice on them. A flat $20 is much better than in infinitesimal chance at getting it for $1.25 (but more likely to run $50+).
Just because people are whining like children over this doesn't mean there isn't a legitimate concern at the heart of the bellyaching.
Almost there PWEtic. You just need to do one more thing.
MAKE KEYS AVAILABLE IN-GAME. A daily, an extremely rare drop, a rare or very rare doff assignment to obtain one. Then and only then will I ever accept lock boxes.

It's the whining that annoys me. It's very obvious that lockboxes are going to stay, regardless of how much sooking and crying people do. They now have the choice of participating in the system or not.
It's very obvious that the reason the ships don't cost a flat fee in the C-Store is because there is the intention that these ships are to be rare. I would estimate that I see a lockbox ship once out of every 75 ships or so. The plan to keep them rare is working. Why would PWE change the method of delivery, then?
I think the new lockboxes look good based on the info we have. I'm definitely going to give it a try.
Almost there PWEtic. You just need to do one more thing.
MAKE KEYS AVAILABLE IN-GAME. A daily, an extremely rare drop, a rare or very rare doff assignment to obtain one. Then and only then will I ever accept lock boxes.
Whilst this is a good idea, they would have to be so tightly controlled otherwise a) the ships may lose their rarity and b) PWE wouldn't make as much revenue. (People do complain about this, but they are a company in a capitalist society...)
I highly doubt that you will get an ISS prefix, or the Mirror Klingon ships will have whatever prefix they should have from their universe (never really understood what was going on with them when they did show them). All ships we have in game seem to be hard-coded to either have USS or IKS as their name prefix based on player faction... EVEN SHUTTLES AND SMALL CRAFT (which shouldn't even have those prefix designations).
It's like you didn't even read Devblog #10 where we saw Tholian EV suits designed for exactly situations like these. Or maybe you did read it, but you have the attention span of a goldfish... in which case maybe we should treat your comment the same way. Speaking of goldfish, how is having special environments on board for Tholian crewmembers any less ridiculous than having areas for whale and dolphin crewmembers on the ENT-D? (Not saying it isn't absurd or silly, but it is canon so there is precedent)
Not sure what you do for work guy, but imagine having to do it everyday in a spacesuit. Now imagine not being able to take that spacesuit off for the other 16 hours of the day. You seem reasonably intelligent. Use your head. Whales and dolphins swim around a tank. Not that difficult to accomodate. Tholians walk around. They're a sentient, social species. Might wanna grab a bite to eat. Might wanna use a latrine. Need a Tholian toilet. Might fancy a holodeck novel. Maybe hang out with their crewmates in Ten Forward. What about if they get sick? Need a Tholian sickbay. Heck, probably need a Tholian doctor. So to accomodate even one Tholian, a StarFleet vessel would require heavy atmosperic modification. What about the rest of the crew? People are comfortable around things that look like them. That's why all the 2 armed, 2 legged, bipedal species play nice in the universe. People dont like arachnids. Don't like their looks, don't like the way they move. Freaks most people out. Have to give the whole crew Tholian sensitivity training now. Why would Tholians want to be around bipeds? See?
Hope I've enlightened you.

I don't mind the lock boxes, I really don't but Cryptic, could you please reduce the size of the graphical shiny lock box which drops in the environment, you know those giant boxes that get in the way of your targets, your teams mates and generally your viewing pleasure.
It's not so much an issue when one drops, but when a few dozen or more drop and they're everywhere that's really annoying. So at least have them the same size as normal drop containers.
You have that new shiny SFX lighting on drops now so there's no reason for the boxes to be so incredibly large, I mean you can't fit a ship in there so what's in there? It's basically a pink slip right or a digital signature/security code maybe giving you instructions, story wise I mean.
No, you see when you buy a lockbox you buy one knowing that there's a chance you may get a ship and a chance you may not. That makes your analogy stupid.

Oh one more thing, for the love of trek please add a whole lot of back story to where these things in these boxes came from like you did with the Dominion Attack Fighters back in Nov/Dec 2011.
...but seemingly accurate. I bet the crying only stops when the ships are free...
Lol, that's it? That's the best you can come up with?

Yep, I think it is...
If the game is so mediocre, why do you bother playing? Go find something else that's not so mediocre and leave this to the people who love it.

just watch, when you open a Phased Tetryon weapon box it will be bind on pickup. you wont be able to unpack the box then keep or sell the weapon you get on the exchange. i hope im wrong
so the fleet sovereign disappeared and now theres a lockbox sovereign. likely to have the stats it had, and now that fleet sovereign will never return to the fleet store. thanks lock boxes, you ruined something that wasn't really a good thing, but it was a thing better then you.
the terran star cruiser likely has the same station arrangement as the sov, only sci heavy instead of tac heavy. the fleet vorcha is still listed, or it was last i checked, but i would be SOOOOOOOOOO surprised if it didn't disappear as well when the patch that launches these new lock boxes is running on holodeck.:mad:
oh but its mirror universe so it wasn't A LIE when we said it would just be alien ships in lock boxes  no its exactly that, its popular federation and kdf designs going in to lock boxes that are better then any other version, its not like crypric would release something new that wasn't laughably better.
so the orb weaver cruiser is the lock box ship this time huh? and your putting the huge recluse in the lobi store? i haven't fraught any tholian ships yet, but im guessing thats a carrier. at least they arent making the gigantic tarantula available. pic for ship reference
Yes. However, I wanted to let folks know that we made a small alteration to the loot quality with this box.
Instead of being flagged as Uncommon/Green, the Tholian Lock Box will be Common/White in quality. Since default loot threshold in teams is Uncommon, this should allow them to not get caught in the Need/Greed/Pass window in most group encounters. Just make sure that your team leader sets the loot threshold appropriately.
If you don't roll on batteries, you won't roll on Lock Boxes.
And just to reiterate BranFlakes' earlier statement, there will be no "Gold" boxes this time around. At this time, we have no intention of introducing them, either.

Shouldn't you be asking why people like me are still here instead of telling us to shove off? Nope, you're not bothered are you, as long as you get your Trek fix.
To answer your question, no, I don't play STO. I hang around here as I enjoy the forums and I hope that one day, the game will turn around and become the game that most people would love to play myself included.
