Hopefully, it will be Season 6, given the length of the downtime. Though from what I was told, pre-patches(which is what others including myself got) precedes Seasonal patches.

Account services can be areal nightmare to work with or upgrade so the extended down time isn't really that surprising to me. As for the release of Season 6 today, I'm more inclined to think that they'll just release a bunch of groundwork code today then with in the next 2 weeks release the full season 6 update after a little more play-testing.

9am EST to 4pm? Where will I get my star trek fix?

I hear Netflix is an excellent source for Star Trek of all kinds. ;)

It's what I plan to do, anyway. :) Next on my queue, "For the Cause." I loved the Eddington-centered episodes.

My question is, when are they going to fix the pathfinding in the fire caves, add check boxes to the mail system, or add in a change character button, like they've been promising since launch?

And I agree. My point was simply if their pre-patch was the same size as our pre-patch, then there is no Season 6 coming. But if their patch is smaller or they have no patch, then the Zen conversion itself requires no major patch. That indicates that our patch is more than likely Season 6.

FWIW, I didn't download much with my pre-patch. I think it copied most of it from Tribble.

i understand that but the size is a dead give-away. there is no way what so ever that a zen conversion would require 3.5gb for both games.

the prepatch we downloaded for sto is the content from tribble. i have zero doubt of that. the only question is when will they turn it on.

if it was not, dstahl would straight up tell us there was no chance of getting season 6 today.

the fact he is unsure means that patch is for us.

I agree with Revo so I think we are downloading content for Season Six today. Yes I do! Now are they are going to turn it on? That I am not sure, I hope they do! I just want it over with!

I guess we'll know if Champs comes back online hours before STO does.

This patch could be series 6, or it could be hardware/software updates for the servers, but if it was series 6 wouldn't we have heard something from the dev's about it? They did say they'd announce it before it was ready to go live (I'm sure I read that somewhere)

Actually after doing them for well over a year for extended periods of time what happens is you go on auto pilot after awhile... STF's are pretty much are tactics you do time and time over so after awhile even if you were about to fall asleep on your keyboard the fingers are still moving...

Dan's most recent statement was "Watch the patch notes". If it goes live today, it'll be posted there.

No dev has confirmed Season 6 is launching today. But at the same time, no dev has come out and said it isn't happening either. My feeling is it is coming and the devs are playing mind games with us because, you know, it's fun.

Awww come on there's so many people you have not informed. Chin up!

Anyway from that post you pointed out to me. My understanding was S6 will not be out today.

Tomorrow's release is a big timed integration update that requires multiple teams across Cryptic Studios and Perfect World to be in synch. We all have to release simultaneously in order for the integration between account services and billing to update properly. This is the reason for the extended downtime and why CO, STO, and some parts of the PW and Cryptic Web teams are involved. As some have deduced, it may also mean the release of Season 6, but we have not announced anything as of yet. We realize there are still a few reported bugs from Tribble. The team is working pretty much around the clock addressing issues as quickly as possible. If you see an announcement or release notes that Season 6 is being put on Holodeck tomorrow, then you can expect several updates over the next week to address any remaining or newly found issues. We appreciate all of the testing we've had on TRIBBLE over the last 6 weeks. The entire STO team is focused on addressing both reported bugs as well as individual feedback. Thank you for your patience.

As I highlighted in red. It is tomorrow, but that's only if they have posted it is going to be released and they haven't.

My bad, I haven't had chance to look there yet. Mind games are very much fun. I play them all the time. LOOK BEHIND YOU :P

    Yeah I 2nd that.

It is annoying having to relog every time you want to swap toons/characters. I can live with it, but would prefer a quick change character button. :D

Too late. You;ll have to wait until the server comes back. This was a pre-patch that was going out all this week.

I don't do forums much so please excuse me for being ignorant.

Could someone please fix, or pass this on to those who do the fixing, the Dome III feature of the Bunker kit? Using Dome III with it maxed out on skills should stop enemies from entering the domed area. As of a month or so go in most cases it might as well not even be there. Enemies come through it like it was never there. Some are slowed down. Most unaffected. It's pointless to use it if they just walk through it. Please fix this.

You could also ask that they fix the buggy combat supplies, the cure where when you repel a target that they use a personal transwarp device back to the transformers... Could go on yeah so many things that could go fixing but they have to go on to nerf things that work and don't need to be changed LOL.

not that we should be disusing this here and it should be posted here http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/forumdisplay.php?f=69

But are you sure this skill does not stop weak enemies from entering and slow Vet or Elite enemies. Am just speculating as I don't use Dome III!

Well from a software and server maintenance perspective, rolling out the patch and not running it on it is not an efficient way to roll out software. That being said I would expect S6 to be activated sometime today.

Considering that the interaction between Cryptic and PWE needs to be synchronized it is not surprising that an extended maintenance window is active. There are so many things that can go wrong when you match user databases and convert database tables. Think of the amount of control and error checking that will have to be done to insure that each users accounts are properly credited. There is real money at risk so there will need to be additional reporting and additional verification done.

7 Hours also allow time for a roll back and re-apply if things go wrong. we live and work in an IT centric world , Murphy rides on our shoulders, drinks our coffee and steals our beer. we expect the bugger to come in and plan for it accordingly.

On the other side...i happen to sell enterprise and application management software...I?d be happy to refer one of my west coast sales reps to help Cryptic out with the problem :) CA Introscope would be awesome for them hehhehehheheh

This is just a guess on my part, but I would imagine today's downtime involves two things:

    1. C-Point to ZEN Conversion
    2. Season 6 Launch.

I number those, because I would bet the Season 6 architecture requires Zen Points, so they need to finish the Zen Conversion first. They probably haven't announced Season 6 because if they have problems with the Zen conversion, they would need to delay.

If they announced Season 6 for today and had problems with the Zen conversion (and thus needed to delay Season 6), the forums would explode with nerd rage.

If they don't announce Season 6 for today, but all goes smothly and they are able to release it, then everyone (should) be happy.

I would bet money that this Cryptic and PWE are trying to manage expectations of the players. Unfortunately, we have no one but our own community to blame for the lack of communication from the Developers, IMO. They've suffered too many black eyes as a result of nerd rage when they did share information, and then plans subsequently changed.

Again, that's just my opinion on how Cryptic/PWE are handling this, but I am confident we'll see Season 6 and Zen conversion hit Tribble today.

I'm going out on a limb and stating that if all goes well with the transition, that there's a 70-85% chance that Season 6 will be released. If not then odds are about >95% that it will be released next week. JMO based on whats out there so far.

Launcher already patching? If that's true for that much of a DL it has to be Season 6... Anything else would only amount to a Gig and a half maybe... Not 3.5.

Edit: I can't even log in to patch the launcher, so it it can't be patching now...

It will be down for a while. The 3.5GB was the size of the pre-patch we downloaded when the server was still up. If you don't have it, you will have to wait for the server to come back.
