I would to appreciate it, if we can become more options for npcs.

To place edited "Singe Targ" NPC Groups to enhance the map atmosphere should not the reason.

    For Example:
I have a medium room who i have placed some consoles.
If i want to place now NPC with "NPC Contact", i can not set any emotes or something else, they just stand right there.

Otherwise with "NPC Groups", with an "Single Targ" NPC Group i can place various NPC where i want with many emotes ... but the problem is there -> They are flagged as klingons.

With a Federation Ensign "NPC Group" i got 5 NPC ... but all NPC's will to the same what i set ... the same emote, the same text etc.

What i want is, to place a Single NPC with the right faction that i can customize like i want!
    - Custom Uniform
    - His own emote
    - His own Chat BUBBLE

Not to place a klingon flagged "Single Targ" or an Federation Ensign Group that all do the same and the same time what i have configured.

I dont like it to place as klingon flagged federation officers cause there is no other way to enhance the atmosphere :(

At this point, I'd just like to see some more costume customization. I can only pick from like 3 human faces templates, and can't resize ANY ONE THING on the costume, which is a HUGE problem because all of my NPC's keep coming out only about 4' tall! WTF?!

Whether I have the wearing a custom costume or not! 4' tall?! WTF?! I could understand if there were Ferengi, but EVERY species that I place as an NPC is WAY TOO SMALL! WTF?!
    FIX THIS, PLEEEEEEEAAAAAAASE ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Feature Request: Can we re-skin the Player ship for the mission?

    Hi,

We all saw how Mr. Drake installed holographic projectors on our ship during the devidian series to let us take the appearance of a Klingon vessel.

Can I suggest to allow this (for storyline purposes) for Foundry?

i.e. Allow us a command wherein we can apply a skin to the [PlayerShip] so they appear to be a cardassian galor, or a galaxy class or in a runabout etc...

The missions could entail seeing a particular incident from multiple perspectives. Allowing espionage and missions where your captain would be aboard one of these ships (like when Riker went to serve with the Klingons and ended up firing on the Enterprise...).

so, please discuss if you share the interest in having a feature like this..

    Thank you.

Only one thing I'm seeing that's missing here: The ability to force changes to character skins temporarily. Let's say, for instance, I wanted to do an infiltration mission on Q'onos. I'd like to force the Captain to get "surgery" and, for this single particular mission, appear to be a Klingon. Just a nice little immersion feature that would be nice.

I think that's an issue with the test character and not the size of the NPCs. My NPCs look like midgets next to my test character, but when I play the mission with my regular toon they're fine.

I love the idea. I think this would also be really cool to be able to disguise a character, or have them suit up in 'mirror universe' clothes if they accidentally beam into the mirror universe or something like that. Heck, it would be really cool to be able to make your ship the ISS ____ whatever, in the mirror universe.

I like the idea of being able to do like Riker did, and temporarily get assigned to a new crew. I'd really like serious flexibiity in making crew interactive, or being able to 'posess' a crew officer to have them perform a task under the player's direction. Probably an engine issue, but it would be sweet. It's done all the time in other games, especially RPGs.

    Really?
Because I made my test character 6' tall, and they still look 2' shorter.
That's why I said they look 4' tall.
    I'll check it out though.
I hope you're correct in that assumption.

I posted this in another thread but thought I'd mention it here as well, these are a few things I'd like to see added

    1. Object transitions: ie having the object transported and disappearing from the map, fixing a broken satellite (having the object transition from broken or damaged to fixed when scanned
    2. Having an enemy ship warp away when you take it down to 50% health
    3. Having an enemy ship go neutral when you take it to 50% health
    4. Placing npc's in the seated position at a terminal on a map ie a ship's bridge.
    5. Having a 3D map so that when props are placed they can be accurately placed in the correct position

Oh and I just like to request that the visual effect that's used in 'The Vault' where you get interference on the screen and on your maps, can we please have that added too?

The tentative date for a Foundry upgrade was, of course, today. Is there a new tentative date for the upgrades that have already been decided upon? There are so many possibilities for great stories, but it would be difficult to tell them without branching dialogue, or the ability to create a more diverse set of costumes. Even the ability to fire on an object without having to use 'tricks' to accomplish it. There is also the fact that I'm just looking forward to it so much :)

Was thinking about the possibilities of the foundry and sorry if it's been mentioned already but I think it would be a great idea to have the option of adding 'flavor' npc's to the maps, this would be like another drop-down menu that would allow you to pick the race, wander ability, population ie sparse, normal, over-populated etc. This would free up the friendly npc's that we use to populate the map at the moment. No more 'npc limit reached' warnings. Just imagine a fully populated map on a planet or even a ship, would make it look a whole lot better.

Also was hoping that it could be made possible to have multiple answers to an npc, giving us the option of branching the story in different directions. Another request would be for your character to be able to have a text box, so your replies or answers can be longer than a short sentence.

Lastly, starting off by entering a map should be made easier, there should be a map transition button we can add to the story and specify what spawn point to use. This would be a whole lot easier than messing around with text, placing markers and the like.

    Add more flavor please

Looking good, I can see the Star Trek community making gaming history with what Cryptic are going to build and it will be more positive for Cryptic, Atari and STO than a lot of people guess.

I honestly think Foundry and the missions created on it will raise a new bar in terms of any UGC software success, if that makes sense!

I'm curious in thoughts of what other games would this work for. I have none. It's exciting and revolutionary. I can imagine all these MMO's trying to hop on the bandwagon when it's successful. Pat on the back to all of you Building on Foundry.

I completely agree. The Foundry is a wonderful tool in theory, and through the beta and the continuing development it is shaping up to be a wonderful tool in practise. As development continues and certain aspects become a bit less limited, we can let our imaginations run wild.

All my life I've wanted to be able to play in the Star Trek universe as a writer rather than a viewer, with the Star Trek characters and locations and ships and technology as toys that I could arrange as I saw fit. And now I can! With the Foundry it's not just words on a fanfic webpage either, it's animated and alive, full-colour, three-dimensional, with beautifully illustrated visuals and immersive sound effects. As good as a TV episode, and perhaps even better - because it's interactive, the audience of my story will be participants rather than just viewers. It's a dream come true. I feel like I own a holodeck.

I'm very happy that the Foundry exists, and that it's allowing us budding authors to do more and more as it continues to be developed. There's every chance I'll be playing on the Foundry just as much as I play on STO itself, because I love creating.

Thank you for the Foundry, devs. Best Star Trek toy ever.

    Upcoming Foundry Feature Goals
The following features are high on the priority list for upcoming updates (most likely Q1 2011)

    Mission Triggers (new)
    • Triggers are a way to make the game play react to the player’s actions
    • Show pop-up dialogs in response to a trigger
    • Spawn encounters in response to a trigger
    • Play music or sound effects in response to a trigger
    • Set a trigger on entering a volume
    • Set a trigger on killing an encounter
    • Set a trigger on interacting with an object
    • Set a trigger on talking with a contact

    Branching dialogue (new)
    • Add multiple buttons to a prompt and chain prompts based on button chosen
    • Show/hide buttons based on mission state
    • Alter button behavior based on mission state

    Costume creator improvements
    • Add in body scaling features found in the in game costume editor

    Timeline editor (new)
    • Change encounter behavior based on objectives in progress and triggers
    • Change contact dialog text in based on objectives in progress and triggers

Plus general improvements to usability and more choices throughout the environment

Will there be a way with the Triggers and NPC animation to "Beam" an Object or NPC off the map without loading a new or recreated map ?

I have to say that I love the Foundry and spend almost as much time in it than gameplay.

I have had a blast - Thanks Cryptic - your Development Team is amazing !!

I really like the foundry, But my main issuse is. It needs to be a stand alone client or application. I need to be able to create everything OFFLINE. so i don't have to be logged into STO to make missions. And i could just upload a mission when it's done an i've tested an played it on my own computer. Why can't we have somethng like that ? - OOP

AWSOME. I would not have caught that Qoute text if you had not posted it.
Does this mean that foundry missions will be able to be authored in a way to skip part of the story at the players discretion. What's the definition of a trigger within foundry. I no the basic description. But would like a more in depth informative description of it's mechanics within foundry. Anyhow Dying to hop back on foundry.

Just wondering if the multiple answer text that we sometime see in missions (most recent is the engineer side quest in Cloaked Intentions: Mine Enemy) where it cycles through each answer and you need to select the correct answer; will it be added as part of the branching dialogue?

Is there any answer on if our missions will give out xp or rewards for completion? I would like to see that made possible.

    Longer Term Foundry Goals
The following features are also being tracked for future updates, but will take some time before they will be completed.
    • Improved ways for authors to collaborate on projects
    • Author rating based on overall ratings of missions they’ve created
    • Web access to searching Foundry-generated missions

    Map Editor – Future Goals
    • Create fully customized interior layouts from room and hallway pieces
    • Place lights directly on a map
    • Use a random name generator for contacts and actors
    • Placing “anomaly” crafting nodes into maps
    • Custom behaviors for encounters (custom AI)
    • Placement of auto-generated civilian populations
    • The ability to create custom planetary surface (exterior) maps
    • 3-D visualization while editing to improve placement of details
    • “Make a random map” option to speed up map creation

    Mission Editor – Future Goals
    • Give the player quest items used by the mission
    • The ability to create content that takes place on the player’s own “bridge” interior
    • Custom cut scenes as part of the mission

    Other Uses of Foundry Content
    • Using Foundry to create custom starship bridge and ship interiors
    • Using Foundry to create custom starbase interiors
    • Using Foundry to create PvP maps
    • Using Foundry to create Fleet Action maps

As you can see - there are a lot of great features coming for the Foundry. We are already seeing great missions with the features we have now and the power of the tools will grow over time while (hopefully) still retaining the simple learning curve.

We look forward to seeing what you can create in the Star Trek Online universe!

Also there's talk in your future development of 3D maps to make placing decor & props easier within the foundry; just like to say totally support this.

I know this isn't a foundry based request but the two do actually lend to each other the possibility of doing this.
Once that has been developed could we maybe get the ability to change the decor on our own ships on the live server? Maybe have a bridge template that is blank and we could then add our own designs using a similar 3D map to select the props and items and place them where we want, maybe with the addition of adding stuff that we can make or receive as rewards to make it more unique? Here's a few ideas along that line:
    • What about an accolade wall display where you can display all of your accolades and hang it in your ready room?
    • Have a console with crew and officer info bio's that cycles thru pictures of your crew
    • Storage: this is a definite must really, have cabinets or something similar where you can store loot instead of going to your bank, maybe have a larger cabinet for larger ships? 50 items min - say 250 items for the largest ships
    • Ability to change the ships interior colour scheme
    • Ability to add decks, rooms, turbo lifts
    • Ability to have a shuttlebay where we can actually board one of our shuttles and depart from our ship
    • Ability to have the viewscreen show us exactly where we are in the system, ie basically a window to outside the ship
    • Ability to pilot our ship from the Captain's Chair, then when we enter a mission it changes to tactical view
    • There would need to be interactive props like chairs consoles etc that would be defined in a separate tab, these would be used by our bridge officers ie sitting down at the helm or using the science station on the bridge.
I think that would go along way in making players feel their ship is their own instead of straight off the factory line and something that is just like every other ship of that class

    You gotta pay for it.
Ability to change the ships interior colour scheme
Since we can't do maps of our personal ships, no point. You can change interiors BG. or maybe add a nebula or 10.
Ability to add decks, rooms, turbo lifts
Doable now. Maybe not your opinion of the idea, since we can't make corridors/rooms.
Ability to have a shuttlebay where we can actually board one of our shuttles and depart from our ship
    Doable now.
Ability to have the viewscreen show us exactly where we are in the system, ie basically a window to outside the ship
Yes, this is a good idea, the INTERIOR BACKGROUNDS are limited to planet side. As for a system view, even black space, is a great thought.
Ability to pilot our ship from the Captain's Chair, then when we enter a mission it changes to tactical view
Why? You wanna view 10 degree of space versus 180 degrees? How is that helpful? You however are keeping true to the perpetual vision of STO, I commend you...

Already doable if you talk about consoles, not chairs in my experience. You Can assign sitting animations and they WILL get up and attack you.

Sorry Highbone, but I think your response was a little harsh. These forums should be an environment that welcomes and fosters the suggestion of ideas, rather than mercilessly and unilaterally shooting them down.

If some or all of Varkirr's suggestions were implemented in a future toolset of the Foundry designed to allow players to customise their own ship interior (rather than designed for mission creation), then I think they'd be warmly welcomed. I'd love to be able to use the Foundry to customise my own ship interior in some of the ways Varkirr suggested. I'd also like to be able to customise the paintings on the walls of my ready room and quarters by uploading jpeg files.

Surely these kinds of uses of the Foundry (entirely separate to its mission creation uses) would be welcomed and used by many, though obviously not all, players?

    Dear 5 Minute User...
Highbone was encouraging him. Did you read through the entire post. Some off those ideas Are ridicules though. Congratulations to being a new person to the forums and still want to make it a better place. Good luck. I stopped trying hmm about a 1hour ago. As it is my bed time. Hope you actually spend as much time making a mission as you have talking about how great it all is in this thread. Not your mission but Foundry.

FIL - With all my Love...

So back to the thread. How likely is it that foundry is going to make it to Holodeck by early march. Anyone out there who has worked with the new features on Beta, Is there any major bugs or are we in for a more prolonged wait then the Dev's are advertising.

I am talking from designing your bridge from a blank canvas and having certain items like chairs and consoles that the system recognizes at npc stations so it will seat your bridge officers in the correct seats and have others tapping away at consoles when you load in

All the above is not for the foundry, if you read it properly the suggestion is for the live server to add flavor to the star trek experience..... judging by most of your replies to my comments, I guess you've never RP'd before

Interesting idea for under-cover and first contact missions where you could to to ships sickbay or tailor and run through the character customization set-up in order to achieve the physical representation necessary for the mission.

it is perfectly canon and a good idea. I am all for it.

I'd like to be able to enter a map, alone. There are several scenarios that would be better served by being solo. Being called to an Admiral's office for orders or info, for example. This can be done now, with a little trickery, but doesn't always work properly. I got ripped up in one review because the poor guys BO's all fell through the floor. As it is, now, using a turbolift on a map can get your officers hung up as well. It should at least be an option, when designing, to be able to go it alone.

Oh, and Scott, I agree 100%. One of my first missions was a covert op at the Great Hall and I even suggested in the mission notes to bring along a Klingon costume for it to be more immersive. That's optional, of course. :)

I donno if these have been mentioned before, but that's alot of searching and reading.. so.. :)

Basically the ability to alter the physical state of the players ship is critical to the type of mission I'm trying to plan... Shields won't work.. No Full impulse, Damaged inflicted (along with graphics) on the ship. Think Voyager's "Year of Hell" episodes..

    As a bonus..

    Player Made Movies (cut scenes)
    Timers
More enviroments in space and on ground.. Nebuias that defy sensors, and are as thick as pea soup, huge lighting bolts..

    That kind of stuff..

Oh.. an offline Editor is 100% required. I know you have security concerns. But maybe anyone who uses the offline editor (along with full abilities granted) and is uploaded to the trilbble server, that only after it's been tested and judged, it would get a full blown review by a dev? one or two missions a week would only qualify for final approval.. Wouldn't that be enough time to make sure someone isn't trying something sneaky?

Basically I want to write a story you'd read in one of the novels, with all the subtext, walking conversations, background and suspense that entails.. Having to walk into your ready room to receive a coded subspace message, Talking to your First officer.. Etc etc.. More tools, more options. :)

    Thanks!

All the above is not for the foundry, if you read it properly the suggestion is for the live server to add flavor to the star trek experience..... judging by most of your replies to my comments, I guess you've never RP'd before

Oh, then you posted this in the wrong forum... This is a foundry forum, and my opinions are based as such.
