Is nobody at Cryptic embarrassed by this thread? Unsticky this nonsense, please.

    This thread is quite depressing.

Requests from THREE YEARS AGO are still ignored by Cryptic's Foundry developers, even though the same requests have been repeated countless times. This simply proves to the playerbase that with Cryptic, in regards to the Foundry, "Coming Soon" means "Not Coming Ever".

I would request that you do something about it, but you've proven that either you can't or you simply don't want to.

The very least you could do now is un-sticky this thread and remove false hopes that the OP of three years ago was being honest.

YES!!! Finally, we can add ground populations without adding them one at a time! This will be great in my planned 40+ episode foundry mission series! I also have a Foundry wishlist due to something that has been annoying me lately when playing other players' missions! They need to make it possible to team up with, what would normally be enemy ships, but instead of, if you are playing a Fed only mission, their beam weapons being switched to phasers, let them still have that specific faction's weapon type! For example: Say, in a Fed mission, you team up in a space battle with a Romulan ship. As it is now, its beam weapons will be, you guessed it, PHASERS! WTH!!! The Romulans use Plasma/Disruptor weapons! I feel that you, as the writer, should have the choice to place a faction's ship and decide on whether or not, in combat, it's a friendly or an enemy! So far, understandibly, the only faction's ships you can team up with while keeping that faction's weapons the same, is the Terran ships!

Also, would it be possible to add MORE bridge interiors to the foundry (like the Sovereign-class bridge lookalike that already exists for free on the holodeck ship customizer)?

    # 1 Foundry - Roadmap to Future Updates
    12-06-2010, 08:40 PM

That is the header for the first post in this chain, the first update, the first roadmap. IF you look at the beginning of this post, you will find the date of this post is July, 30th 2013. We are just over 2.5 years from this posting and while I will certainly admit that a number of the goals set out to be accomplished in this document were achieved, this is the last time this document has seen any updating, even to talk about the goals that were reached.

This is one of the many signs of the 'neglect' the Foundry as it related to StarTrekOnline has endured. Yes I understand that following this was the dark times when a flailing Atari cut and cut until not even money could bleed out of STO anymore. I understand the uncertainty of that period and how desperate things got. The thing is though, that was the past, Cryptic was bought by PWE May 31, 2011.

In that time we have gotten things, do not misunderstand I do not accept this is true, the overall problem is, we get scraps, have to beg for ages to get things that should have been designed with placement in the Foundry from the get go, accidental inclusion of things that are subsequently taken away and never released back to us. Items have gone into the C-Store and never made their way to us, so that we could showcase or generally just design better sets. Additionally there are the bugs, the maps that are outright broken, the mechanics that dont work, and on and on.

At this point, I realize I am asking for a tall order, but this has been going on for so long there is almost no easy way to make it go any faster. Legacy of Romulus would have been a great point for some change to have occurred, you were adding a whole new group of things that could have been implemented at the same time into the Foundry. This is what Neverwinter was doing, its not a terrible design ethic.

Please, give our Foundry the love it needs, or else let us down now by telling us how little priority it truly is for the company.

Just been listning to the STLV convention 8/10/13 and heard something interesting about the Foundry and making/designing your own maps. Some may have heard, some not, I'll be posting it as an FYI: They start talking about the Foundry at 31:37.

    Nerf is OP, plz nerf
That's quite the paradox, how could you nerf nerf when the nerf is nerfed. But how would the nerf be nerfed when the nerf is nerfed? This allows the nerf not to be nerfed since the nerf is nerfed? But if the nerf isn't nerfed, it could still nerf nerfs. But as soon as the nerf is nerfed, the nerf power is lost. So paradoxally it the nerf nerf lost its nerf, while it's still nerfed, which cannot be because the nerf was unable to nerf.

I call it, the Stoutes paradox.

Dan has given (in previous interviews) two examples of Foundry tech they'd like to port over from Neverwinter, the custom interior editor (laying out rooms and halls on a grid) and the nudger (an in-preview 3D editor.)

    Yeah those would be great.

Others that would be nice are the ability to make story chains. NW has a feature that lets authors link their stories so that when someone plays Part 1 they automatically pick up part 2 when they finish part 1. NW also has improvements to the way things spawn and how object states change.

Well, custom interiors was apparently a feature they thought about from the very beginning. Unfortunately, even though the button exists, it has been disabled since launch. Only custom space maps can be created.
Neverwinter's Foundry is superior in every way imaginable. Hopefully the STO Foundry will some day finally get updated and hopefully not in Season 18.

Personally, I'm hoping they'll at least get around to updating the Foundry search engine to allow for better search refinements sometime before the sun grows dark and goes out...

I'd like the ability to save 'Favorite Missions' and 'Favorite Authors' some before that though...

^Words that every player should keep in mind, especially whenever there's a problem with the game...

    Map Editor – Future Goals

Create fully customized interior layouts from room and hallway pieces
Place lights directly on a map
Use a random name generator for contacts and actors
Placing “anomaly” crafting nodes into maps
Custom behaviors for encounters (custom AI)
    Placement of auto-generated civilian populations
The ability to create custom planetary surface (exterior) maps
3-D visualization while editing to improve placement of details
“Make a random map” option to speed up map creation

    Mission Editor – Future Goals

Give the player quest items used by the mission
The ability to create content that takes place on the player’s own “bridge” interior
Custom cut scenes as part of the mission

    Other Uses of Foundry Content

Using Foundry to create custom starship bridge and ship interiors
Using Foundry to create custom starbase interiors
Using Foundry to create PvP maps
Using Foundry to create Fleet Action maps

If ANY of this happens within my lifetime I'll be quite happy. Particularly that last block.

I can live with all the problems the foundry has, but please, just give us back the ability to import/export costumes if only from one foundry mission to another!

That was the time stamp for the threads creation. Here we are, on the cusp of Year 3 of this thread, and no update for it. I would almost call this a necrothread by now, but that might call forth forum-daryl-dixon and slay it. Oh powers taht be, I beseech you, come down from within the fabric cubicles, with your assortment of doodads and 1 allocated plastic plant, and bestow upon us new computer slates of knowledge of what will be planned, what is already in the works, and what could very well be in the future.

We have reached the 3 year and one week anniversary of the posting of the roadmap. While I must admit, it is a milestone in itself for keeping some a complex and daresay ambitious project alive, it falls to me once again to ask, when are we going to see some form of update to this post?
    • It has been stickied in the forum for an age.
    • It has not seeing the loving hand of a developer grace it since its inception
    • The milestones detailed in it have been brought to fruition for the most part, but an update of the vision would be appropriated
