I want them to fix all the current issues before they announce a shitload of new stuff (what not gonna happen anyway)
As long they not even able to fix little things like an fleetaction how should anybody believe they gonna do all these things they have on their new list....
Specifically, what are these problems which require fixing?
You've listed fleet action (what's wrong with it)? A bit more detail would be helpful. Have you tried posting in the Feedback section?
Awesome ideas all over, I really want more personality and RP(G) out of my BO's and ship itself.
I like the DP great idea IDK why everyone is so worried about skill points and such.. it could simply be an increasingly long delay after each death.
the reason I like a DP.. I hate meaningless suicide attack's, excessive ramming and self destructs... these are starships with 100's of people on them! to casually and repeatedly suicide takes a lot out of the "Starfleet" feel of the game. of course an honest and heavily weighed last ditch decision to ram or self destruct is perfectly acceptable "Starfleet" behaviour. actually it would be really nice to see small "Victory Buffs" or something from consecutive kills without dieing...
Com chatter in a fleet battle would be kinda cool (something people could toggle off).. little texts that flash up saying "XXXXXX ship is takeing heavy fire!" or "captain TRIBBLE has destroyed the IKV TRIBBLE with a withering volley of Photons"
Pretty damn happy so far!, thanks for listening and asking Cryptic
I think a few people are over reacting to the announcement of a death penalty.
I can not see it being anything to harsh,I am sure they are not going to go from no death penalty to something that destroys the game for you.
I would think something along the lines of -10% to hull and maybe shields stacking debuff, maybe it would last around 10 mins and could stack up to 3 time's.
Something like this does not cost you anything and just makes you stop and think before jumping in to battle.
Again I am just guessing but I can not see it being anything severe.
Nop basically what it does is you stay out of any action until you are back to 100% becuse if you failed at 100% you defeintly are not going to make it with a penalty and for those that have limited playing time waiting around would be frustrating enough as well as the added time of respawn.
When will there be "life" on the planets? Right now.. you beam down to a planet that may have some sort of flora on it but no creatures of any type.
The away missions on planets consists of either scanning objects or killing enemies, it is very weird to beam down to a planet and only see the enemies and yourself all the time. Where are the locals at? Is every planet barren of local species.. it doesn't make sense.
I understand the get it done and get it out the door for launch but when will we see content like the above in the game?
Exactly what I was thinking here. I hate to make game comparissons, but even WOW, with it's HUGE player base, has always had critters running around, amongst all the locals, etc. It made the world seem more alive. Here, every world seems barren. NO LIFE AT ALL! Weird. Some "missions" have houses, but no "locals". No weird critters at all. no flying thinggies at all. The planets are ALL dead, aside from the one or three where you NEED to talk to someone to complete the mission.
Planets need to be more "alive". random wildlife walking around. Random species of locals as well. Maybe on some planets add some vendors that might sell unique things, uncommon or rare things possibly. Maybe buy things for a bit higher then spacedock.
In other words, make all these worlds more alive.
Oh, and for the death penalty? It needs to be minor if at all. I've played many MMOs going back to UO (to EQ, DAoC, EQ2, DDO, Warhammer, WOW, Aion), and they are mainly just an aggravation. It's also aggravating in STO to die on a long base mission on the final encounter, repeatedly, and respawn back at the beginning of the base. That's death penalty enough for me - having to run my group - getting stuck on every wall - all the way through a base only to die, over and over. For ship death, make it a minor credit loss to "replace" the ship based on rank. Credits are easy enough to come by, so long as the cost was minor.
There's a Dev post somewhere about this, the gist is that they had to make a choice in pre-production to do either Flora well of both ... well not so well.
They chose the former, no idea who posted it (but I think it was here rather then in an interview) but it was a game dev.
Still iffy about a DP tbh, STO was made to NOT have it, so integrating one into the game will create some problems most likely. I would like to hear Creig or any lead GM to create a ligit poll asking a "What If" question for DP options.
For those who can't play 24/7 we have preety much no energy (and after a bug in my Commander promotion mission I LOST 68k energy only to a "Thank you for your feedback" reply....big help there )
Not really sure how one [ DP ] would work in this game-but I am getting tired of all the DP agruements lol.
I'm still wondering why people WANT to get penalized lol. And before any trolls can flame saying I'm an MMO noob I'm not, played WoW for a bit and still a SWG vet.
Like I said before, having a GM post REASONABLE DP OPTIONS would be nice, but until we can work with one I say no DP atm.
But I do understand that a DP could be a motivator (if a good one is created...)
_________
On a side note, great job with this "State of the Game" update. Can't wait for GU1 !!!
Ah yes, the long awaited whining of the DP players is begining to harmonize. How about this, we don't put in DP's because this game is not like all the all others, instead why don't we put in bonuses for surviving a particulaly difficult mission or combat engagement. I understand the need for consequences, but we get enough of that in the real world MMO. Perhaps this game should make a point about it self as not being too real and not being like all the other games and strive to be a fun and exciting venue that allows a partial escape from the real. Should death be rewarded? Of course not, but instead a positive award structure for accomplishing difficult goals should be implemented, beyond the normal XP and item drops, instead of penalizing players because they pushed the wrong key or turned into their opponents firing arch. People don't bring their "A" game every minute of the day and to say because "you are not up to your maximum potential every second we are forced to penalize you" is sanctimonious to say the least and we should refrain from jumping on our high horses' at every opportunity in order to prescribe judgement for failure, especially IN A GAME MEANT FOR AMUSEMENT!
For all that want a DP, try sky diving.
Character respec would not be needed if the skill tree had more leaves. I know, I coulldn't help myself. A more explanitory skill description would be welcomed though and one that showed corelations to other skills with greater clarity would be equally entertained.
More ships is a good thing regardless and yes a Romulan faction would be freak'n great. Cardashians as well. No not Kim. Dominion any one?
So jsut becasue WoW or EQ does it Cryptic should do the same? Maybe he is saying he is tried of that mentality and would like Cryptic to stand on their own and not just immitate WoW or EQ.
Dear Cryptic,
let me start by saying i mainly play PvP and i would like to say having played Eve for years i think the PvP fight here are much better! i enjoy the type of dogfight and the more involved micromanagment of the ships systems. How ever there are few things that need to be done,
1) there need to be more missions for the Klings (for the klings who dont want to PvP all the time!)
2) I think i speak for the fed and Kling PvPers when i say there need to be more open PvP on a larger scale so that skill level does not matter then fleets can fly together and fight together as in Eve, fight over systems this could either be done until ether one side or the other won, then it could be reset i suppose it would be a campaign, maybe even over a time period like say a month. Whether it could go on infinatetley i dont know but i think thats what PvPers would like.
You already do this if you think about it, albeit on a much smaller scale in salvage and hold, imagine haveing systems all over the map where you fly into different pvp scenarios to capture and hold the system! that wouild be awesome! you could expand the numbers entering the system e.g. upto 100 peeps in there, if your hardware permits it. The system would change coluor red or blue etc.
If Roms and Cards are added to this it would be awesome.
This game has the potential to be great! i know diffrerent people want diferent things and its goig to be difficult to satisfy every one, people talk of challenges there are diferent types and startrek reflects many but the most difficult of all is PvP as in startrek, war, the Feds always tried to avoid it, the klings welcome it.
I've said it quite a few times in game and I'm going to say it again here... I have played a lot of beta/head starts on games and granted I probably have not seen a more buggy launch one than STO. However, with the constant barrage of updates and forum posts flying it was quite apparent and still is to this day that the developers care about what we want and are doing more than even I can expect them to do when it comes to making things right. Personally I have never seen the determination of a team like CS. I for one am exceedingly grateful for it and just makes me want to play more and more. 3 cheers to the dev teams!
Just a little note about "listening to your audience".
Alas, it's human nature to be vocal when not happy with something, and not when you are perfectly content. So please watch out with assuming that a forum is representing the views of the whole player base.
Personally, I don't really care much about the game mechanics details... as long as you keep delivering me the Star Trek feeling as you have been doing, I'm happy. See? Happy face.
For example, I am perfectly happy with the no death penalty, but I will not mope in a corner if it is implemented. Although I do predict a shift towards harder to kill ships (less escorts, more cruisers), and if it is implemented in PvP, it will take away a LOT of the carefree fun the PvP has now, and the up until now absent flame wars will unavoidably erupt. In my humble opinion, of course.
I just don't want this MMORPG to fail the way a number of others that failed just because of that... a vocal minority dictating the game design, and those are players that often are never entirely satisfied anyway and jump on the next MMORPG that hits the market. Meanwhile, the game will have lost the others who see their game getting changed all the time by things almost nobody asked for, only because they were asked for it in a loud voice.
Once you implement the death penalty I'll need to find out how to cancel my lifetime sub. That's a complete deal breaker for me. You're only forcing elitism, punishing new players, and conceding to a few masochists.
I was thinking along the lines of a repair bill for a death penalty would be best but with some minor adjustment i was just thinking about this while ruminating on the toilet this morning let me know what you think:
When you die in only regain a % of your total Hull, Shields and Weapons power so you start at 100% of hull, 100% of shields etc you die then the max you can now regain is 90-95% of maximum of these, you die again you can only regain 85-90% etc plus you only regen less people,
Now you can go to a starbase or star system in your home system and get repaired for a small fee proportional to damage, but also to add an extra factor into the game since we have 3 types of office Tactical, Science and Engineer the players could have an extra repair ability they could put skill points in so an Engineer fixes hull back to full, a science office fixes shields etc and a tactical office can repair weapons damage so if your in a team and just you die then they can repair you or if your deep in enemy territory with your fleet they can help repair you to full instead of having to find a friendly starbase.
This is just my idea of a death penalty that i think would be fair and acceptable to everyone let me know what you think =]
Oh also other things that may of been mentioned but i'm not in the habit of reading the forums that much that might be nice to see would be
-Having other bases and system be able to set as home system so transwarp takes you there instead of sol.Include some sort of once a day cool down though so people dont use it just for conviencience sake and set to home system only so federation player federation system etc.
-Mini games, not the most important thing ever but the star trek universe is littered with games from dabo to 3d chess to good old fashioned poker a favourite among starship crews it would be great if we could go to starbases and play dabo in quarks or invite some friends to your bridge and have a game of poker (I haven't explored everywhere so if these are in game at anywhere forgive my ignorance, and it may be hard to implement i dont know but still its just some ideas for community involvment)
-I think some brancing story lines would be nice aswell they could be simple ones and tied in with other missions for example:
Player A goes on an exploration mission and finds a pre-warp culture who have nearly discovered super explosive killing substance B21 (substitute your own names here people) now you have 2 choices Uphold the prime directive or Save the local population from disaster players choice even if its only superficial its a nice touch i think. Then there are other mission ideas which could involve Bridge Officers more e.g you beam down to a planet near a local village you are attacked by locals without warning and Bridge Officer A gets kidnapped you wake up then you have choices A: Beam back up to your ship without harming the locals Mission complete but you lose your bridge office permanently or Fight your way to your bridge officer and rescue him. (Or for variation and a good way to get new bridge officers Bridge candidate B was researching on Planet C she has gone missing starfleet sends you to investigate you can either let her go to carry on research or rescue and bring to your ship increasing your bridge officer pool)
I do have some more ideas but i think this long post should do me for a little while and its just some general ideas i've had feel free to flame or debase if you wish i just like talking xD.
P.s i agree with Pell aswell on Point 2 and whoever else may of said it on the forums the idea of changing systems and fighting for them against players with changing colours and possibly bonuses for the holding team? that would be an added extra into the game and definatly keep me personally playing for alot longer.
Alot of words from the heart from the Dev and we appreciate where your coming from but whats coming out in the immediate future, say the next 30 days? 6 months time to next year Is of no consequence if we don't make it past the next month. What is it you expect us to be doing until then? - we only have 3 char slots and know every mission word perfect or so bored of PvP from a Klingon perspective we consider eating our own faces!
There was a death penalty discussion in the Earth Spacedock zone this morning, and only a very few were in favor. I don't see what a DP would add to the game but frustration.
So, yay to your idea of rewarding survival instead of punishing death.
As a lifetime subscriber I have faith that Cryptic will make STO an awesome game with this update and many more in the future. But the one thing I worry is about the death penalty. A penalty is good but please don't do the one you created in your COH /COV mmo. The XP debt was complained by all players. If you got into a tough Strike force mission (also known as raids) which was unbalanced you would have to grind your way out of a ridiculous amount of debt. If it happened on a regular mission the grinding out was fine because you died maybe once or twice. If XP debt is the way to go then make it balanced and less of a grind to get out of. Otherwise lets get those disconnects fixed and KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!! ::)

Frustration is it's own reward!
The people who like to warp into earth space dock and self-destruct (taking lower levels out, with them), would LOVE to see death penalties. So the cries of rage over what they just did can ring all the louder.
Let me make this simple... I'm playing this so I can have fun. "I" being the key part. And no, I am not interested in playing something else right now... so stow the canned "go play an rpg" response mr. and ms petty troll. Having said that, I have a life time sub. I do not play eve, expressly because of the death penalty. And frankly I quit Earth and Beyond because of their penalty system. So.... If the penalty is something that is stymying (like the examples provided), then I will formally request my money back... less time played. Nothing personal, just I simply reserve the right place my money where I will enjoy myself.
Hey here is a thought and I wonder if anyone else considered this, knowing that difficulty options are being implemented:
Would it not be possible to simply attach Death Penalties to the difficulty selections? That way the individual can tailor the instance to be "Easy-no death penalty", "Moderate-moderate death penalty, additional enemies", "Challenging-significant death penalty, stronger enemies". Maybe adjust drop percentages in accordance with difficulty level to give incentive to the added challenge?
I for one would like to continue enjoying and experimenting with the game in "easy mode" until i'm confident in my allocation of skills through Admiral.:)
There was a problem with one of the quotes in this article:
"We already know what you think about a death penalty, Craig but The Community really thinks it's a good idea and their opinion is more valid than yours because they probably don't own goats."
that should have been:
"We already know what you think about a death penalty, Craig but The Most Vocal Minority really thinks it's a good idea and their opinion is more valid than yours because they probably don't own goats."
Don't let them win, Craig. Most players don't want this. It seems to be pretty split on the forums and the forums != the majority of players.
Thank god for spring break because it was becoming hard to juggle this game and my college studies. LOL I bet you can guess which faction was winning. I can't wait for the new expansions, they sound awesome. One issue I didn't read about was bringing new content to the Klingon side. There is tons to do on the Fed side but I keep hearing "in game" about needing more content on the Klingon side. I have a level 44 character in the Federation and I have really enjoyed leveling it up and doing the missions. I have a level 9 Klingon character and the missions just don't seem as plentiful and compelling.
Thanks for all the good work guys and girls Love the game and I am looking forward to the future.
