Yes, there should be a death penalty. No, it should not require game currency to repair your ship. I expect it will be based on captain level as well as number of deaths, with each level and each death making your respawn timer longer. Not enough to remove you from a match at the beginning, but long enough to matter.
Discourages camping a single ship, gives a reason to care about how you fly, and adds an element of danger.
Of course yes... with the actual silly difficulty level in combination with really NO death penalty, the game i lacking ANY CHALLENGE and therefore lacking any fun and in the conclusion of both points: pointless to play actually...
but i question the sampling here, because only a small minority of players actually bother with forums. I don't think the sample will be big enough to give an accuarate result
no

Also the anti DPler are a lot more active than the pro DPler, cause the pro DPler know that Cryptic is working on implementing a harsher DP and thus dont need to argue to get their will.

Cryptic knows the better sampling of STO players, and it looks like 'no' is the minority. DP was fortunately listed in the latest "State of the Game" announcement.
"We already know what you think about a death penalty, Craig but The Community really thinks it's a good idea and their opinion is more valid than yours because they probably don't own goats."
FINALLY! Thank you, Cryptic. I know you'll balance it well so that players who didn't want it will not be so grumpy over it. Yes, DP!
But Cryptic are listening to us...remember.
If all us Die Hard fans say no against all you PvP idiots that want to enhance your enjoyment of watching us PvE

Please don't insult others with name-calling. That just weakens your entire argument.
Cryptic knows majority and stated it. Your 500 vs. 5000 is far off. You're wrong as Cryptic already stated DP will come. And you're wrong for thinking it has to be limited to PvE only. It might be, but we don't know that and it doesn't have to be.
It may be in both, we don't know yet. For example if it's just a 1 minute debuff of no shields, etc., why would you be fuming about it? You can continue your mission, but you just shouldn't go back into combat immediately if you had a debuff. DPs don't have to be harsh, just something to make us want to keep our ship and crew alive as we do missions.
No game in MMO history has punished those who play PvP...If they did...whats the point of PvP.
Is DP a good idea...maybe...but it should be an option to those who play.
If we want it...we can turn it on or off...just like PvP in WoW.
When you die 500 times doing a mission...i think your start turning it off.
They have already made the game harder for us....so i think they should concentrate on putting in more PvE for the Klingons and more End level content for the RA's.
And if Cryptic knew Majority...they would have done those thing's i listed above, because more are asking for those rather than a DP...!!!
This is a good game...and i am really enjoying it...but i solo most things because thats how i like to play.
A DP would punish my playing style.....
So is it fair to punish me for that...???
Thats what this argument is about....it's a punishment for some and a god send for others.
DP's should be limited to Fleet Engagements and Sector defence....so then those who go AFK and do nothing can be punished.
Or...why not do what was said before...NO DP, But a reward system for NOT DIEING.
Now prove me wrong.
And those numbers come of there very own IRC chat...so there not wrong.

They are adding a difficulty slider. Perhaps it will affect DPs in PvE? We don't know yet.
Unless the PLAYER can decide if they want to punish themselves or not. OR if the devs re-write the game code so 1 dimwitt cant go in and aggro three squadrons, drag them back to you, and leave the sector... AND if a player sits idle while I fight my butt off they get ZERO credit/skillpoints, AND deep space encounters dont automatically trigger and dump you in the middle of a gaggle of Three Battleships, One flag ship, and six escorts......
I played WOW, I played EVE, I played Dark Ages of Camelot, I played Age of Conan, Lord of the Rings Online and almost all of them for long periods of time etc etc.... No where did a DP help or make the game more fun. I lost so much money in the large raids having to repair my items after the healer would fall asleep at the keyboard or someone would aggro another group because of getting knocked into them.
On a side note only LoTRO had a reasonable 10 minute debuff and even that was frustrating.
What a DP did do was cause TONS of arguments, blowups, collapses of guilds, etc. Why because of people devolving into blaming each other because of the kind of events we can see above. There were people who played who had to stress because they were parents and might have to run to help a child and it might ruin the whole raid. This kind of TRIBBLE made them outcasts.
The current climate in the game is open, no ones afraid of random grouping, trying new things, using whatever weaponry they want because that's what they like. Not because they have too because Admiral Billybob crunched the numbers and thanks to the death penalty one person in the group MUST have X points in plasma, another in anti-proton, another in quantum, etc, well its that or don't get invited or to play. This means no more pick up groups, as no one will trust anyone else, this means less of a community already separated by a shard system. Also what good is a Ramming Speed ability then, who would willingly use this? Or abandon ship?
The very idea of a DP being added is totally in-congruent with the game anyway. In the military there is no penalty for having a enemy blow up your Humvee, and friends lets remember Star Fleet is a military force. You hard core nuts who want a death penalty seem to have no problem accepting "paying" for things even though STAR FLEET was MONEYLESS. IF you want a DP then you have to remove currency in any form from the game and make all items rewards from quests and missions.
As it stands I have been telling my friends to get this game specifically because of the no DP fact. If a DP were implemented and it were to punish me for playing and taking risks, for jumping into a battle to be overwhelmed ie enemy encounters, or heaven forbid because someone else makes a mistake and I start to have to take time to just wait for some debuff, or to travel to a starbase for refit that removes the very reason I play a game, or lose money I had to work hard to get. I will be dropping my subscription, I want to log on have some fun and log off. If that isn't what you want hardcore people just give yourself a penalty simply warp to a starbase every time you TRIBBLE up or sit and wait for 10 minutes before reentering a battle. There see the problems solved you can fix it yourself, while the rest of us don't have to suffer from your decisions....
This game has ZERO sense of gratification for achieving a difficult objective. Oh, wait .. it doesnt have any diffucult objectives as its currently just a Star Trek chat box with a tribble game.

NO DP
It is now that DP is going to be in-game.

I already did. Weren't you reading posts in between your complaints?... http://www.startrekonline.com/node/1182
Yes...there adding more end level content...but i see nothing on that post about PvE content for Klingons.
All i'm seeing is 5 man raid areas....

On a side note, I think making polls is against the rules. I'm not 100% certain though.
