I'm captain Darmok Jalad of the USS Tanagra.

I think fans of TNG will get this one.

Oh and in beta I flew the USS Pollux, from greek mythology. Pollux and Castor were twin sons of Zeus, but Castor was mortal and Pollux was immortal (although Castor later became immortal).

Shaka, when the walls fell! "Temba, his arms wide!"

"Darmok, and Jalad... on the ocean."

My current ship is the "White Star" from Babylon 5.

The White Star Class, was a class of advanced warships maintained by the Rangers and utilizing Minbari and Vorlon technology and served as the backbone of the Interstellar Alliance's fleet. They were manufactured at the Valen's Eye manufacturing point in the Minbari System.

The first full scale ship was complete and presented secretly to Captain John Sheridan of Babylon 5.

USS Passendaele: My beginner ship, named after a famous WWI battle fought by the Canadian Corp.

USS Kindjal: First saw the name as a fighter in the Dune series. Later learned it was named after a gladius style sword from the Ural Mountains.

USS Trinculo: The only soft canon Galaxy Class starship name I could find that actually made sense and didn't suck.

USS Demeter: Takes its name from the ship that brought Dracula into London in the Bram Stoker's classic novel.

USS Tycho Brahe: Named after a medieval era astronomer.

USS Franz Joseph: Do I really need to make an introduction. A non canon starship designer and writer.

IKS Painbringer: Taken from the old FASA Starship Tactical Combat Simulator. The original Painbringer was the name for the D-7a cruiser.

IKS Stingtongue: Another FASA STCS ship, this time a torpedo ship.

IKS Fat Man: My carrier, named after a FASA STCS battleship that was actually a bit of a dud...

I try to name whatever my current ship is, depending on class, a cannon name. There are plenty of websites with ship name lists to be correct. It is a shame we have to have that extra 9 in the registry. For ship classes that are unique to STO, that don't have ship names, I will choose a name of a ship usually form a WWII British ship, just because they always had the coolest ship names!

Imo you can summarize the far eastern wisdom by their fortune cookies, the indian by the dalai lama's tear-off calendar aphorisms... and our's, the western world's, by Alfred E. Neuman.
    Therefore... USS A.E. Neuman.
Won't tell my other ship's names origins, would be asking for trouble.

In order from first to current (I tend to pick more obscure names/references for that unique-ish feeling):

USS Parallax (LC) - Was thinking about parallax scrolling if I remember correctly, sounded good so I went with it.
USS Xanadu (SV) - Originally the summer capital of Kublai Khan's empire, but it's been referenced many a time.
USS Amarantine (RSV) - Enya album name, related to a genus of plant, sounded interesting.
USS Cassandra (LRSV) - Greek prophetess
USS Alessa (DSSV) - Character from the Silent Hill series of games (brilliant games if you like horror) - Alessa Gillespie
USS Asakura (ARSV refit) - Character from the anime 'Haruhi Suzumiya' - Ryoko Asakura

The penumbra (from the Latin paene "almost, nearly" and umbra "shadow") is the region in which only a portion of the light source is obscured by the occluding body. An observer in the penumbra experiences a partial eclipse. An alternative definition is that the penumbra is the region where some or all of the light source is obscured (i.e., the umbra is a subset of the penumbra). :)
