No, but emergency = emergency. This was the original post:
Emergency Maintenance 1/21 (January 21, 2010)
Star Trek Online is currently down for emergency maintenance. We are expecting this downtime to last no more than 2 hours, starting at 6:30PM PST. Upon completion of the maintenance, this message will be updated accordingly.
This is either NOT Emergency Maint. or Cryptic has some serious issues that they have yet to resolve since open beta started, considering EVERY day at 9:30pm(EST) the servers go down for "Emergency Maint".
As much as the downtime drives me absolutely crazy (loving the game so far)... I have to be a little thankful for it... It means that they are working on -something- to make the game better to play... AND.... it gives me no excuse to not do some work I need to finish online, lol... so anyway, Thanks, Cryptic for making me get my work done and making the game better! *applauds*

Sounds more like scheduled Maint. to me.
Emergency Maintenance for Cryptic is like the girlfriend who is obnoxiously needy and needs to call you every hour to say she loves you. hehe
People keep posting faster than I can read the posts...so stop it!
As far as beta and the servers go...
1. I don't really mind that its down...
2. Y'all be silly to think servers aren't going to go down semi-frequently Feb 1st....
3. Every MMO I've playd since DAoC - Cryptic has been far the most genuinely-communicative.
And if you read this thread, its obvious to tell that the audience for STO is EONS more mature than most MMOs.

I disagree with anyone who has said that they "paid for beta testing." There are plenty of games out there that people pre-order with no promise of beta access before the release date. This kind of down time is going to happen, and we should appreciate the fact that these people are putting some real time into making upgrades, patching, whatever they have to do to make sure that when the release date comes, they are ready for an influx of new players who could care less about the beta, and just want a game that actually works. You're not "paying" to beta test, you're paying to ensure you can take advantage of the head start if anything. We should all just be happy we have any kind of a preview at all.
This is the one time of day I get to play, but every time I get home from work I find the servers are down. I understand it's a beta, we aren't paying yet or anything, but I certainly would like the opportunity at some point.
wow with everyone reading my post about not drinking for a while i have had to take like 10 drinks... good on ya... ill be the ship flying in circles when we get on
After some thought and reading all the posts here. I think for all the down time that all of us had to put up with they should make it up to all us beta testers, maybe give us a as much as up to a week of extra free play time. I know many will probably disagree, but I think it would make it more likely for some to continue playing once the game comes out of beta I know it would for me.
They probably work their developers until some early evening PST cutoff time, have some manager skim things over so he can leave by 6:00, then hand over whatever is ready to the release team. Maybe they figure they won't produce a new patch everyday. If they wanted to be nice to beta testers, they block it off as a potential maintenance window, but who cares about betas -- they're diehards who already paid or moochers who found a key on some website.
