No the G100 = 9400 GT. I also believe that's a PCI card. What is your system specs?
    http://www.yougamers.com/?mainnavi=true run the STO test.

ok i just tried your link as well, and apparantly my graphics card meets the minimum requirements, however, my graphics card has not yet been overclocked. it is still set at default specs. if i overclocked it, would that make much of a difference or should i just leave it as is?

Ok, so that means I have 2 gigs RAM/Memory and 41 gigs harddrive/storage. Clear? I'm going to allocate another 2 gigs to act like RAM/Memory closer to release, after all, I have the extra gigs to move around. (I know very little of PC hardware)

Edit: I see an option in the control menus to allocate storage gigs over to RAM, so that's how I plan to do it.
Your talking about Virtual Memory. It's much slower that RAM. Not the best solution. Not recommended for gaming because it's too slow.

Apparantly it passes on all fronts on reccomended, but alot of games still look kinda jumpy and stuff whilst moving. Could this be my monitor, or something else I need to do?

Your GPU is low-end. A $50.00 GPU is not going to give you the same performance of a $150.00 card. A $150.00 card is not going to give the same performance as a $300.00 card. You will have to play at a lower setting. I should be able to play STO on High setting. The $300.00 card on very high setting.

Your GPU is not design for gaming. You have yet to list you specs.

    So you have a
    Aspire X3200
    AMD Phenom(tm) 9650 Quad-Core Processor (4 CPUs), ~2.3GHz
    4GB RAM
    NVIDIA GeForce G100
    650 GB HDD?
Monitor ? - No driver installed. What is the monitor?
    PSU 220w or 250w ?

There is very little info on the G100 card it a OEM card that is for low end PC. You paid under $500.00 for you system. It is equal to a 9400 GT. The 9400 GT needs a 124W to run. This is once again not a gaming card. STO will run at low settings.

I would suggest a 9600 GT or 9800 GT or ATI 3650 or better with a 450 watt PSU.
Yes, the monitor is a factor too. What is your monitor and you need to install it's drivers. People spend between $200-$300 on a good monitor.

Because there are a lot of cards that are more powerful and it's a mobile GPU. Mobile GPU are not as powerful as real cards. They can't be, the heat would kill them. 9800 GT is more powerful an a 230m. It's apples to oranges.

Hi Whte Knight, I understand what you're saying about desktop cards being more powerful than laptop cards because of heat, space and power requirements.

What I don't understand is why the game check site that I mentioned would say my card is above the desktop card when the benchmarks don't back it up.

Is it possible that those sites are rating my card better because of its features such as Hardware T&L, Pixel Shader version or Vertex Shader version? Just trying to understand.

Meaning, maybe it's not just performance that matters but it might be the features or the level of support for those features that attribute to the overall rating.

Just because you and I can do the same task doesn’t make are work performance equal. If I can perform that same task but faster and do more things at the same time. Which one of us is more producted?

Look at the below specs. Both can perform the same task. but which one will do it better and faster.

    GeForce GT 230M

    Stream Processors 48 – unified
    Core Speed * 500 MHz
    Memory Speed * 800 MHz
    Memory Bus Width 128 Bit
    Memory Type GDDR2, GDDR3
Max. Amount of Memory 1024 MB

    GeForce GTX 260

    Stream Processors 216 Processor Cores
    Core Clock 576MHz
    Memory Speed * 1998 MHz
    Memory Interface 448-bit
    Memory Type GDDR3
    Memory Size 896MB

The GTX 260 can do more and do it better.

If those cards can't do the task I need them to do. And the GT 230M can do them even though its slower then it's a better card/chip. I would take a GT 230M over a 7950 GT even though 7950 GT is fast then GT 230M will do what I need it to do.

I hope they release a version of STO on the Xbox 360 because it would hopefully not only eliminate the monthly fee, but also make it so that you wouldn't have to TRIBBLE up your computer.

No release date for the xbox 360. Maybe the spring. We get a game before a console. Be still my heart.

The 4850 is a very nice card and should run any game via Boot Camp with Windows at that nice, high resolution. :)

Insane overkill on memory for gaming, but probably comes in handy for video editing?

Lol, I don't do a lot of video editing. But with the whole CS4 suite, it helps a lot in photoshop. Plus the fact that I have the habbit of having like 25 screens activated at once.

Anyways also got a windows pc but not sure if it will be able to run sto,

    Got
AMD phentom core 9950 (2.66 quad core)
    4 GB RAM
    ATI Radeon HD 3800
    800 Gb Hardrive

it has vista on it as a 64-bit system.

Should be just fine for STO. You didn't mention which ATI 3800 card though. 3850, 3870, 3850 X2, or 3870 X2?

I'd dump Vista and go Windows 7 though. Vista is slow and bloated compared to 7.

It doesn't meet Cryptic's requirements. It might work, but it would be very laggy. I wouldn't want to do any 3D gaming on that laptop. It's probably fine with older 3D titles (WoW) and all 2D titles though (like the old Diablo 2).

It's a 3850, and yeah thinking about tossing away Vista for windows 7.

And yes it would be great to have it for mac as well. Maybe they will make it as soon as thinks get a lift of. Especially sinds the number of mac-users are increasing. Unlike windows, apple has made a big growth. Mainly because of the iphone, ipods and macbook sells.

LOL. Interesting that you mention that publicly. I wouldn't give them a dime for Vista, and would never use it. But for Windows 7, Microsoft actually listened to users and developers alike this time. If you want Windows 7, either get an RC-1 copy for free (from someone who still has it), since that's "legal" until June of 2010 when it deactivates itself (shuts down every 2 hours a little before that time). Otherwise, just buy Windows 7 Pro... don't need Ultimate unless you want Bitlock encryption (which is better from 3rd parties anyways).

Well if it were a mac like snow leopard.

Anyways not wanting to start a fight here about windows vs mac. Just saying the truth about this.
