It is funny. The first thing I thought when I saw one of those video's from the Wizards of Oz, no, the Wizards of STO of course back then, these guys are not so good with this game, but it is mostly a case of finding design flaws in this game. Just as Lt. Colonel Kilgore said, some day this war is over, you can say, some day this DPS is over. It looks like we are going to see that day.
New Leech gives +6 power to all systems. So when I lower three systems with 6 I can raise one system with 18, with the 6 we already have it gives +24. That is not bad, not bad at all. Or do you still need more?
I bought the leech for 1000 Zen and have multiple on my KDF characters. So I see it as a bargain, then and now.
The fact that day/night cycle is removed from the Risa map because ... reasons, is for me a greater issue. It means this game lacks something it should have. You can look at this game as a cheap and simple product.
I don't feel that's possible now, the current meta items were ALL targeted. This isn't me stomping my feet and wailing... this is me openly stating that the proposed changes "burn" my investments and literally new replacements are for $$sale to replace, again no thank you.
When you spend money on STO, you're not making an "investment". You're spending money on the game, you're making purchases. You will never get money out of it. And most purchases tend to lose value over time. Buy a car - 2 years later it's probably worth less than half o f what you paid for it, and you had probably expenses for maintenance and repairs, and new cars with better qualities and features will have been released for the same price, and in the long run, the car will have only scrap value.
An investment is if you buy Apple (or PWE) stock, or if you buy a house to sell it when the value rises or to make money of people paying you rent.

Curiosity is not welcome, it is not to be invited in. Curiosity...is bad. It gets you in trouble, it gets you killed, and more importantly...it makes you poor!"

Love the attempt at the analogy zeroing in on my word usage of "investment" but your example is still very off... using a car off the lot, 5 years later the dealership makes you come back and swap your v12 engine for a v4, expects you to like it because it's more gas efficient and sell the new updated model at its original price, that's more akin to what's happening.
All the items that are purchasable with $ have a hard cost, i.e. Their zen cost which other then sales, does not fluctuate. What DOES fluctuate is the F2P aspect of it, or what in game players are willing to spend on it using obtainable currencies.
Quite a few of the items targeted are CASH items, which will still sell in the store for the same price they were pre nerf. What WILL change is how players value them...
I get the premise of what they "need" to do but their execution is way off and in practice, not one I will support or "invest" my money in in the future... they got what they will get

Time to do away with that narrow definition of 'investment' too, that you keep bringing up. Try "to use, give, or devote (time, talent, etc.), as for a purpose or to achieve." For instance, I'm investing time in this post (for the pupose of educating you on the different meanings of 'investing').
Hence, I invested time and money in this game, for the purpose of getting good to excellent gear and ships for both my toons.
And your car anology is silly: there's no 'wear and tear' on virtual items: this is just Bort deliberately nerfing everything into the ground, so they can start their profit cycle again.
Last friendly warning, folks. If I have to come back to this topic again because of some individuals who can't stop themselves from throwing personal insults around, I'll be closing this.

[*] Go Down Fighting can once again be used while continuity or invincible are available to save you from dying
After Cryptic came to their senses and is willing to keep their promise as far as the retaining of the value of investments of mine the past year is concerned I look with a bit more optimistic attitude towards the upcoming “balance checks”.
By applauding the nerf to cheap performance items like plasmonic leech and especially embassy consoles the player base welcomes a game which is much more Pay2Win driven.
As a hard core STO player who has been around almost daily for 5 years flat I can live with that just fine although I don’t completely agree with it.
In any case so be it.
Edit: I have just been thinking, it’s Easter next week! The latest tribble notes got me that excited with the game again that I feel like throwing 100 bucks at it. The new escorts look so much nicer with invincible slotted. A key ring bundle would also be cool as I’m too lazy to use regular upgraders and I want that gun epic upon purchase.

My cannon/escort builds are all FED side so I go there @meimeitoo. Still the trait sounds good for all builds.
In any case, leech is sad but I think I can forgive bort. At least he treats the hot stuff as in our ship traits with respect. Thats all I need to know.
I have become to know you as a good player in the metal and sci channels. I bet you wont break into sweat over that bit of powerloss of the leech. Its still 30 in sum so still alright.
Gettin through those nerfs wont be hard for either of us.

I dont know it for certain @patrickngo but spartan surely is the creative head behind the balance. He took his sweet time the past year to bond with good players in game to find out what combinations exactly lead to the OP performance of some.
In the end bort gets to decide what is to be done and what not. What he may lack in understanding in game mechanics he makes up in understanding of buisiness.
With his latest issued patch he keeps my wallet open and not closed for his company.
Simple as that. As if I care about peanuts as in leech and embassy consoles...

Hehe; your words are kind, and appreciated. Although I'm really quite an average player; but your earlier post made me intrigued in the Escorts nonetheless, so I may get them anyway -- nerfs despite.
Also, been watching The Expanse, Season 2, of late. Love those sick railguns! Wouldn't mind having one on my own ship! And these Escorts will mitigate some of the power loss as well, I read. So, I dunno, maybe it won't be as bad as I thought it would be.
Plasmonic and exploder nerf. Because all the other balance issue they fixed, they promtly undid due to whiners.
Yep - because keeping things stupidly OP is apparently a good thing.
Actually, yeah, it is.
As for 'stupidly OP,' that concept has no meaning in PvE (except maybe for that 0.01% of the playerbase that really is OP with the current gear). The rest of us just have their gear retain value, as promised. Which, for me, means I can start spending money on the game again.
P.S. Since I was half-way out the door as it was (and no, folks, you can't haz my stuff: it's bound-to-character). I didn't follow all the latest changes; so I'm still rather skeptical as to what nerfs they allegedly undid. But if they really did, good on them!
At the end of the day, I really just want to have fun. Looks like they made that possible again.

In fairness they over-nerfed the plasma exploders. They've been gutted right out of the DPS-meta with the changes that are still on track for the 25th (about 20% of their current effectiveness), but reducing them to about 5% of their current absurdity was the pendulum swinging way past what was needed.

Your post is half-way inspiring.
On those new Escorts,

* Faction: Klingon
Versus:
*Fleet Ferasan Slithus Escort [T6]
*Faction: Starfleet
Which one is it?! After Bort's horrinerfs to Leech, I may need to fly the Starfleet one on my Rom, if that's possible.

Considering he had to roll back most of the nerfs he first patched I feel for him too.
