Because this will be the first time a Flying saucer is a playable ship in a game (to my knowledge at least.) Also love how you convieniently forget about the rest of the fed starships parts lol
I didn't forget about the other parts, I was speaking of the saucer designs specifically and how the round one has already been used the most. ;) Two of the designs are saucer like only one isn't round.

Have to go with Alpha, personally; but I wouldn't cry if Charlie were to win. I WOULD cry if Echo won, though; the design just doesn't appeal to me at all, and I agree that it's too similar in appearance to the Son'a ships.
For me this is a no brainer, the Lukari are not an aggressive species, therefore the wedge just looks wrong for them. Plus, we already have a wedge, the S'golth Escort. We don't need what's basically an identical ship with different coloring.
Remember though, this is just part of the overall voting process.

Seeing them lined up like this, I have to say that suddenly Charlie seems more attractive than Alpha.
Btw, if previous anniversaries are any indication, then a mega-bundle of ships is coming soon after this (Kobali Samsar Cruiser was followed by command ships, and Krenim Science Vessel was followed by flagships). This probably means a new universal console 4-piece set as well (which one will only be able to complete if they get the Lukari ship). I wonder what will it be this time... T6 Vestas for the FEDs + finally some science vessels for other factions? Or maybe some combo like T6 Sovereign, Nebula and [insert other desirable ships here]?
I hope the flying saucer wins! The saucer shape is the most iconic alien space craft in human history. With STO having around 400 ships and its about time we get a UFO.
The issue I have with Charlie is that it looks too similar to the Galaxy saucer section with a mix of the Ferengi D'Kora. Already from the featured episode, we can see the Lukari might not be so enthused with the Ferengi. That's not to say they don't like their ship design. Alpha is just a practical design.
I quite like both the alpha, and echo designs overall. AN I would not mind seeing either a bundle come in that is for the advanced research/deep-space science ship, or a Heavy cruiser (Cheyenne, Dakota, Stargazer class) pack would be great honestly.
I would not mind if we got the ability to vote on other aspects of the ship, beyond merely the look/design of it. Such as getting to vote for what kind of unique console (like what kind of stats, as well as general concept usage ability), as well as things like the boff layout, and also from maybe from what kind of starship traits.
I have no problems with people having a different aesthetic preference. But the reasoning being charlie looking like a fed ship because there is a distant similiarity in a basic shape that a part (the minority at that) of the fed ships share is ridiculous.
What fed ship has a saucer? The TOS designs, cruiser, heavy cruiser, support cruiser and exploration cruiser in canon designs and vet ship and the one t6 flagship in cryptic designs. More triangles than saucers at this point.
