<warning, caps ahead, because I'm at work and bored> NNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOT CONSOLES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!<I'm done>
It would be nice to see people able to play together regardless of system but I have no desire to buy a X play box station one or whatever it is (I know what they are, don't need an explanation thanks.) If in the long run it helps the game grow then great, I'm not going to throw my toys out of my pram (love British euphemisms) because the game might draw more income and possibly expand. I don't see it being the end of the PC game but if it ends I had fun and will find something else to do with my time, like housework.......
The development will follow the money. I wouldn't expect to see much spending on the pc side when this takes off. For many non-console players this will probably be the end of playing it if they can't make the change or investment in a x-box.
Right - because when Neverwinter took off on the Console (and it did) they COMPLETELY abandoned adding anything to the PC version...oh, wait...
My point? They're not going to abandon anything that's bringing in profit; and the PC version is VERY profitable - or we wouldn't be seeing another Expansion like we are now in addition to the Console versions being made. If you really think "Oh, once the Console version is out ALL the PC players will flock to it" - you don't know the PC gamer market (which contrary to a few badly sourced articles is neither dead, nor declining. Cryptic isn't looking to abandon the PC market; they're hoping to get money from the Console market.
Remember - back in 2009 when Champions launched - they wanted to launch ALL their games on the PC AND the Console; but the way both Sony and Microsoft required updates and patches to be vetted and tested prior to them being deployed for a Console game made that unprofitable. Obviously that's changed.
Yep. DC Online was both with PC and PS, and now it's going to be available on Xbox One. Also, it was mentioned in the Xbox One/PS 4 announcement that the console controller's going to be giving some lovin'.
The more I think about it and let it set in the more I see this as a closure announcement for pc. I would say there will be no further development for pc. The expansion is the first console content - ie it was made with console in mind. Yes, they will keep pc around long enough to fund the console development. I would say at least through next year.
If you think about it coldly and rationally, console will be another way to force all old customers to repurchase everything. Why would they not do that? I even think they would say that lifetime accounts only apply to the pc version and there won't be a lifetime offered for console, or at least it will be separate.
I hope the xbox interface won't be forced on pc with the expansion so that I can continue to play until they shut down the pc. I figure there is at least 18 months to enjoy - give or take maybe 6 months.
I'm actually surprised to be taking the idea of no more STO pretty well. I expected to be crushed, but the upside for me with the console is pretty much a guarantee of a good while left to play so I seem to be approaching it with that outlook. Then when pc no longer is worth their time it will go the way of mac.
Funny, I seem to recall articles calling into question about the status of Xboxes after the announcement that PCs will be able to play Xbox games....
Ok folks 2 things here 1 final fantasy xiv a realm reborn and the new expansion work well for the pc and ps4 both can use mouse or keyboard or controller the hot bar set up would be cake walk for a ps4 controller as well as macros. Final fantasy 4 done it right and i pay monthly to squareenix.Of and elder scrolls online i can pay a montly subcription on playstation but that goes to zenimax so it would be easy to impliment the cstore and cross play. And this gives a lot more people a chance to play sto stop the gripfeast and be glad that Sto is going to be able to reach new people i played sto on pc and on a fixed income so i have a ps4. I think Mmos coing to consles is a great i dea more people would play more options and as final fantasy xiv does cross play with console and pc my psn name only shows up on my character sheet. So yeah it can be done and done right and i m writting this on my ps4 with my controller. So i would just set back and see.Even if on speperate servers still gives anoter group of people to play but i heard that it might be everyone on one server again final fantasy xiv does that and its perfect and yes it can be done

I can not decipher your remarks

That's my question as well. I certainly hope not.

In addition to all of these exciting changes, we’ve also made some improvements to episodic flow and player progression that will really improve the experience for everyone.
Definitely worried about this as every time this has been done before xp has been cut and grind has increased exponentially. Wonder how many missions are going to disappear?
On the plus side the news may be good for those with consoles.
I wouldn't be so sure, the devs HAVE been a lot more receptive to the playerbase as of late, and have been basically giving us things to improve the quality of the game in a satisfactory manner. While I don't expect each mission to hand you a new level after you hit lvl 30 on, I do expect this to be easier, considering how Cryptic's been as of late. For example, with the AoY stuff on Tribble right now, there was a game-breaking bug over there. They literally hopped right in and had a fix out by yesterday when they only found out about it on Friday. What's more, they fixed up a lot of other issues that did NOT have a lot of reports sent in, and those problems weren't all that crucial compared to the one or two game-breaking bugs. So the devs do seem to be focused on keeping us at least in a satisfactory state with STO, and that means that they are at least listening to us now. So based on Cryptic's track record since S11 rolled out, and I could still say the same going back to even S10, I don't see this to be all that bad, but time can only tell.
I would imagine that They are probably going to have a separate server for the consoles like Neverwinter does.
So everybody who uses a console will most likely be starting from scratch.
Ah, while true, the test server for STO still is considered a seperate server. And they have a tool that will allow you to copy over a character from Holodeck to Tribble. So in all honesty, while it's likely that the PC and console servers will not be linked in a cross-play setting...I don't see them forcing those on console to start anew, and simply update that tool to allow characters from Holodeck to be ported/copied over to the console live and test servers, much like you can right now with Tribble.
You know, the big kicker here as far as crossplay is considered is NOT Microsoft, but Sony. You know what I see happening? XBOX and PC play together on a cross-play server, with PS sitting in the corner. And someone pulled out DC Universe Online, a game I play. XBOX has it's own server, and PC and PS were already cross-played as the company that develops that game used to actually be the MMO affiliate of Sony, called Sony Online Entertainment. They were thus able to put the game on PC and cross play it with PS for that reason alone. But now, as they are an independent company, they not only were able to make the game on XBOX, but have to consult their former overlords in regards to cross-play including Microsoft's console, WHICH HAS BEEN SHOT DOWN. The big problem here is thus not Microsoft giving the nod, but Sony, who has refused to do so within the last 3 months. Thus, if cross-play does happen at all with STO, I see it only including XBOX, and not PlayStation at this present moment, due to Sony having their heads up their butts.
And in regards to them shuttering PC...there still is too big of a playerbase on PC. I don't see them doing that at all right now. In fact, I see them sooner shuttering Champions and if that doesn't work, both the XBOX and PC versions of Neverwinter before they even TOUCH anything that is even CLOSELY related to STO, besides yanking the plug on Redshirt, which is never really used for anything worthwhile PC-wise anyways. Either that or turning Redshirt into the main server for console, which is far more likely and more logical to do as far as resources go.
The question is: What happens to my Lifetime Membership or my store purchases? I will not buy everything again...
That's my question as well. I certainly hope not.
Nothing, it will all be on PC still.
The question we are asking is whether or not PC purchases (e.g., ships, uniforms, lifetime subs) will transfer to console.

I wish I can make it simpler for you to understand.
While I'm excited to see investment in further development for the game (specially the graphics update), I am sad and disappointed at the prospect of not having cross-play between PC, PS4 and Xbone. As is has been said above, Final Fantasy XIV showed it can be done, and it can be done right.
And the absence of cross-play, as I see it, goes against the very philosophy of Star Trek. Technology is supposed to bring us together, not set us apart. I see no benefits whatsoever in fragmenting the playerbase.
lol you can invest, develop and take the risk that a 6 year old mmo will succeed on a console, but couldn't continue MAC support. I could say a lot about this and none of it good. So will choose my words wisely,
Good luck and Qapla.
Maybe Apple's not into Mac like it used to (iPhones and iPads are their current obsessions), and isn't into working with other companies anymore to ensure Windows games are played on the Mac platform?
it's worse. Apple seems to have decided not to bother trying to support games with heavy graphics. /:
I think it would be more accurate to say that Apple is focusing on making light-weight and thin devices that have everything integrated into one body, like Macbooks and iMacs. That means sacrificing features that are not absolutely neccessary, like an extra graphics card.
The Mac Pro is still there, but it's so high-end in pricing that it will never make a noteworthy gaming market. (And it also tends to get less product upgrades).
I think Apple's product portfolio is pretty neat and addresses certain consumer needs - but it can't cover all of them.
Star Trek Online Advancement: You start with lowbie gear, you end with Lobi gear.
so is this a real cross platfrom set up as in the pc player and console player can play the same game and be on the same map or is this like the other so called console and pc game as all others as in you have to use a console to play with other on a console only game

Finally some rational thinking.

If it works like Neverwinter, it will not.

I thought they already answered that. Yes, I believe we are getting the graphical updates for PC.
That would be a no per the Devs as of right now. Who knows what will happen by Autumn

Personally, I'm interested to see what their new minimum specifications are for the game with the new systems in place.
