My web team made this. I've been handling S11 stuffs.
Why did you allow a website that’s not been designed around modern resolutions? The design doesn’t work on mobile screens and doesn’t work on high resolutions desktop screens. Did anyone even bother to test this at different resolutions up to 75% of the screen is blank and empty at high resolutions. How is that remotely useable?
Where is this "wasted space" people are whining about? What wasted space? Looking damn good & streamlined here on my monitor, 19 inches. You got 36 inchTVs doubling as monitors set on widescreen mode or something?
Amazingly you nailed it. I am using a 36 inch TV with my PC. It lets me use the same TV and 5.1 surround sound system that all my other junk is hooked up to.
What serious gamer uses a 19 inch monitor? This isn't 1995. Big screen panels are a dime a dozen now.
Who needs something that huge for a computer?
If I already own a TV and sound system why would I buy a new screen and speakers for my PC? I already have a DVD player and three consoles hooked up to it. What's the big deal about hooking up a PC to it?
No, it's NBD. I edited above. My set up isn't multipurpose, and I doubt it's the standard for others, either.

A little warning may have been nice. :P
I sent you a message on Twitter, but you may not notice it. Any chance you can link me to the previous CSS so those of us who have made custom themes for the enhance users can fix them a little easier?
Join date is wrong, I've actually been around since STO Beta.

I don't like it. Too much wasted space, the background is too transparent and unread threads are not in bold.
Norway and Yeager dammit... I still want my Typhoon and Jupiter though. JJ Trek The Kelvin Timeline is just Trek and it's fully canon... get over it. But I still prefer TAR.

I'm at 2160x1440 resolution, but I don't see all the wasted space folks are upset about. What resolutions are a problem?
It seems to do a better job of jumping to #latest in a thread for me, but that's subjective observation so far and worth little as such.
It doesn't fit my browser and I don't know what to do.
If you have room on your screen, try dragging the right edge of your browser window over until you can see the right border of the posts. You can also pull the whole window over to the left and let it hang offscreen a bit.
Other than that?
Not too much, I'm afraid, unless you've got mad skillz or want to increase your screen resolution to make everything a lot smaller. You could try it on mobile. It doesn't look nice and it's a bit squished (opposite problem) but it'll fit. Otherwise wait until somebody else with mad skillz posts a CSS fix.
My problem with the new forums is that none of the links to the threads work. If you do a google search and click on a link to the forums, it just takes you to the main page. This makes the forums now next to useless.
I already can't remember what the old version looks like.
Horray for a rapidly shifting normalcy!

Any thread that existed prior to the Vanilla migration won't be 'findable' that way. Try something recent and see if it works.

This...
Since Cryptic / PWE dosen't use 301 redirects (and TBH, when changing forums, this would be an almost impossible task in this case), they need a fallback that everyone can relate to.
The alternative is getting a 404.
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...

And if you really really want to see the old one, you can try pulling up the cached version out of your Google search. If it's not still cached at Google, then you have to come here and use the forum search instead.
Now, the other question I'm wondering is why the News forum still has the Arc ribbon at the top, but this forum does not? I'm kind of liking it without the Arc ribbon, but I know it would bug me the next time I wanted to quickly hop over to the game News page. So is the leaner look worth losing the short hop to the STO game website?

Are you zoomed in by 150%+ or something? At 2160x1440 you should have 50% of the screen as empty. That's a massive amount of wasted space.
Sorry, Trendy, but I think it needs top-down rethinking. The 'thread topic border glow on mouse-over' is especially irritating, since I move the mouse cursor to relieve certain OCD tics.

No, 100% zoom in Chrome. There's a couple of inches margin on the left and right, but the old layout had that too, maybe more. I guess there's maybe some "whitespace" in the gaps between posts, between sigs, etc. Doesn't seem anywhere near 50% to me, though, so I must be seeing something different than a lot of unhappy folks. I'm running on a Surface Pro with Win 8.1 and Chrome, maybe there's some arcane OS/browser dependency they accidentally tripped over.
I like this new look. It looks better to me. And the 'wasted space" is no different than the previous versions wasted space on my screens. So I am happy.
I kind of like this new layout better. All those sigs aren't running off the posting area as much. Granted, I'm not using any of the forum mods that were developed by other forumites when we shifted forums, so I'm still seeing the narrow posting column.
Wasted space -- It's a web design thing. Content has to be functional and reasonably eye-pleasing across many different browsers, resolutions, window sizes, devices, etc. Designers have to be intentional about their site design to make sure it's serving its purpose. Any space without a purpose... wasted. Judging solely by what I see and not necessarily what others are seeing, there is definitely more space than necessary to separate the text that people are trying to read on a forum. Aside from the problem of people whose screens aren't large enough to deal with the fixed size here, there is more scrolling involved than necessary. Another design "shouldn't do".
Hm. I just thought of a psychological impact for the extra space that might be considered a positive. I'm thinking it might tend to make people less... reactive. The posts are less dense and might lend toward an illusion of being less "in your face" where people are distracted by what they see and focused less on what they read.
I'm probably totally wrong and in any case I wouldn't call it deliberate. But I can't help noticing that that animated image in the sig right above where I'm posting is very distracting.
All bets are off if someone puts a provocative image in their sig

That wasn't there before. As my avatar is a transparent png, the border detracts from the effect.
