I find it difficult to give a real list, but here's an example of how the same ship can be awesome and unawesome to the same person! (We already see that some people hate what others love and vice versa):

    Kolasi Siege Destroyer: Ugly
Kolasi Siege Destroyer in Siege Mode: Awesome. I only fly it this way. TRIBBLE turn rate.
Battlecruiser with Avenger engineering section: Terrible
Battlecruiser with Arbiter engineering section. Awesome.

If I try to give a good list:

    Awesome:
Federation without kitbashing: Hestia Advanced Escort
Federation with kitbashing: Pathfinder with Intrepid pylons and nacelles
Klingons without kitbashing: Bortasque. I really like the look of the ships. Too bad it handles so terrible.
Klingons with kitbashing: Tie between Vor'Cha and Neg'Var, really.
Romulans without kitbashing: Aehlahl (literally without kitbashing - no options. That makes me sad.)
Romulans with kitbashing: Kara Advanced Warbird.

    Terrible:
Federation: Olympus. I really don't like the golfball ships.
    Klingons: Anquat.
Romulans: Mogai and Scimitar. I just can't get to like their looks.
Star Trek Online Advancement: You start with lowbie gear, you end with Lobi gear.

I knew it was a self fulfilling prophecy.

The Gurumba has a unique style, one that takes a bit of getting used to. I like both the Gurumba and its mk 2 version.
It may be an acquired taste, but it looks quite nice.
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

I just want to come to the defense of the Scryer. A little. Yeah, the saucer could be a little better. Yeah, the nacelles could stand some adjusting, too. But Mmmmmm, Dat Dorsal Deflector. With a little tweaking, it would be my _second_ choice behind the Aventine, I think, for best fed looker.

Thats part of why I love mine. There's all these beautiful, sculpted and sleek science and exploration vessels in Starfleet, then you see this squat, short brick that's bristling with guns. the Avenger is the A-10 of Starfleet.

For my choices though, I have to say that I hold the Aventine as one of the most beautiful ships in STO.

On the opposite end, I utterly loathe all forms of the bloated, bulbous whale that is the Galaxy and it's variants.

A better name for this thread would be the bad looking ship and the very bad looking ship, because I think starship design is at it best mediocre. Cryptic is not to blame for this, but the ones that came up with the original Enterprise. From that point one we have to deal with a saucer, hull and nacelles configuration. We have to live with it.

The defiant is a good design. It is a warship, Small, nimble, just what is needed, a simple gun platform. The orginal constellation is wrong. Saucer and hull make sense, a crew and passenger compartment and a separate hull with the enginering. Though the hull is tubular as is the warp core, but the warpcore is placed vertical in the hull. It doesn't make sense. Two nacelles outside the hull. That may have a reason, but they are connected with the hull with in comparison tinny struts. This whole configuration, think also about the neck, is screaming for stress problems when it comes to fast and abrubt manoeuvring. Voyager does it better. No neck and the nacelles are connected to the hull by short wings. However they can fold, anybody has a clue why?

The famous B'rel is a warship and it looks as such. I don't now if one has to deal with recoil when you fire those guns. I suppose they can fire and are not just for cosmetic reasons. If there is recoil, you don't want your heavy guns that far outside the fuselage. You will have align problems when not firing simultanously or just firing with one side.

And that is the other problem with ship design in the game. It is coming from designs from a tv show and/or movie. On screen we only see the ships for a short moment. I am not so much interested in the design. I am interested in a good story, good acting. The ship, also the outside, is not much more as decor. In the game that is totally different. I really have to like the ship. It is my ship, a spend hours with it.

Fed side worst - probably the Imperial class assault cruiser. No idea what it's supposed to be and it just looks ridiculous, nothing like the sleek Regent or Sovereign classes.

Best fed side - I'd say either the Regent, Pathfinder or Guardian.

@breadandcircuses I'd disagree. The Fed versions look awful. Like Excelsiors somebody said "let's pretend they're the replacement for the Typhoon", so they stuck a extra set of nacelles on them and hoped that people would be fooled enough by that single similarity to think they were a revamped Typhoon.

I made a kitbash of the Klingon CC's I call the Klin'Gokor and I think it's a very nice looking ship, so much so, that if I bought the KDF CC's I'd buy the three pack to use the parts from two of the ships (but TRIBBLE the An'quat, it's bloody disgusting).

It's obviously the most practical as well. Why waste space with deck plating when you can have all your crew and all your consoles floating around inside a giant empty force field?

Since all the consoles will need to be wireless, there are fewer deaths from console explosions during battle since there are no high-voltage EPS lines powering them. There is also no plating falling on you during a structural integrity failure. The forcefield protects your crew from enemy fire as long as the warp core remains online. This type of design is so superior to existing ships it should be made the standard for all future vessels from this point foward. Anything less is a death trap.

No more of this! Use Horizon standard architecture for all future Starfleet vessels!

For some odd reason when I look at that ship I see 1 torpedo shooting from a cloaked BOP and well...the rest is history.

Emphasis mine. If we're including kitbashes, the avenger saucer+nacelles goes very nicely on the arbiter hull+pylons. The arbiter's deflector is sexaaaay. It works in the same way the Aventine does, sleek lines with a little boxy in the right places.

Although it's not really a looker, I'm also fond of a kitbash I invariably make out of the Tier 2 escorts, combining the Gladius and Ushaan classes.

Worst: Connie. Ugly TOS holdout that looks as ancient as it is.

Best: Star Cruiser. Just the Tier 5 Star Cruiser- not the Odyssey. No neck, and a sleek layout- a beautiful ship. I wish Cryptic would come out with a T6 version of it.
DPS-Bronze, DPS-Silver, DPS-Gold, etc. are FAKE! They were created by an outvoted minority who destroyed the original DPS channels!

I think the opposite, one of the best designs, as long as it's the fleet version which has the flat warp nacelles. Its shape suggests pocket-battlecruiser, something that has almost everything of a full size tank, but handles better and isn't such a big target (visually, as it doesn't have any +defense as escorts). Combined with Arbiter skin, it's essentially a battle version of the regent assault cruiser from a visual point of view.
      laferrari1 wrote: »
Worst looking is the Scryer. Flying pizza slicer/donut, with weird hull material, incomprehensible design with two awkward nacelles slapped on top of it. Ugh.

Took me a while to come to terms with it, until someone pointed out to look at it like a mobile mini-DS9 or a science laboratory, which is what it is. The holes in the center could be viewed as spaces for the drone swarmers to enter or exit (despite coming out the back) and as a serious recon-science observatory while cloaked behind enemy lines or in deep space. I have to agree about the nacelles however, but they can be switched to the Eclipse ones and it meshes well with the only drawback that there's no more bussard collectors at all which did look good on the original nacelles. Also, the hull space inner circle can be closed off completely, but possibly only in the fleet variant.

About the other Fed intel ships, the Eclipse (battle)Cruiser I understand is one of those you either really like it (I do) or really dislike it, but the Phantom is real nice all round, especially with the fleet nacelles, and as close as it gets to a flying saucer. But then again, I'm not a Defiant fan, and find the visual concept of it in DS9 is very poorly done to depict a full size ship scaled down for battle (and if I understood correctly not to require much crew or take up precious room on the space station), which Cryptic's Arbiter pulled off really well.

Like seaofsorrows mentioned I think its the deflector on the avernger that does it for me. I don't mind the rest of it, but the deflector looks TRIBBLE, and the arbiter didn't do anything for me either. We must have opposite tastes, because I hate the Eclipse as well haha.

There are some ships I think are very pretty ingame.
For fed ships I do love the Sovereign and the Intrepid classes.
By god do I ever hate the Gladius, it hurts me lol! I do have the intel toilet seat Phantom which I'm warming to over time. I always enjoyed the look of my Kumari too.
For the roms I do love the new intel ships, and even the pilot ships (or some of the custom skin variants). I especially love the Mogai.
I do own a Scimitar and I wholey agree it is not pretty.
Klinkside I love the Somraw raptor and of course the classic B'rel.
Currently I do own a fleet Mat'ha raptor, but even though I absolutely love the ship its appearance drives me batty. The nacelles just seem...wrong, I dont know, its probably just me lol!
There are some special ships lockbox and alike that I both love and loathe.
I find the Zhal vessel to be ugly as a box of nails, but I think the Nihydron Destroyer is a beautiful design.
The Narcine is a pretty vessel, and I look at my Astika everyday and think how full of badassery it looks.
The Benthan ship hurts my brain, especially when I see it moving, as does the APU sandcastle class.
Ok this is turning into my giving my opinion on many ships rather than just a couple so I will leave it there lol!
