No. The Celestial is far worse. I like the hull and nacelles on the Envoy and wish they were ported to the Monarch. However, every single part of the Celestial makes me want to throw up.

Norway and Yeager dammit... I still want my Typhoon and Jupiter though.
JJ Trek The Kelvin Timeline is just Trek and it's fully canon... get over it. But I still prefer TAR.

You really like the blue deflectors? The blue deflectors are basically why I almost never use anything but Material 2 and 6. More recent ships have had deflector-color indepedent parts on the deflector, which make the uni-color ones more bearable. But the only ships single color deflectors really look good on to me are probably those that canonically had them - Constitution Refit and Excelsior. Probably since the deflectors seem a lot bigger on newer ships.

i have forgotten to add at my list

best: dhelan (but only with the wings type 2)

the Dhael would have been very nice, if they had followed this idea: https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/85/12/d9/8512d97e24aed377e81a90835472d2c2.jpg

    Worst
    • KDF
      • Command Battlecruisers (KDF, though I do have them, and they're really nice ships... *sigh* I don't want to offend the designer, but they simply look as if all the creative energy was spent on the Rom and Fed

@breadandcircuses I'd disagree. The Fed versions look awful. Like Excelsiors somebody said "let's pretend they're the replacement for the Typhoon", so they stuck a extra set of nacelles on them and hoped that people would be fooled enough by that single similarity to think they were a revamped Typhoon.

I made a kitbash of the Klingon CC's I call the Klin'Gokor and I think it's a very nice looking ship, so much so, that if I bought the KDF CC's I'd buy the three pack to use the parts from two of the ships (but TRIBBLE the An'quat, it's bloody disgusting).
    22086698919_41b49e4f42_o.png

The Romulan ones, however, are all nice.

Funny, I think that's the kitbash I finally settled on... I'm not saying you can't make something tolerable, just that the KDF Command Battlecruiser designs just don't feel like there was a lot of creative energy directed at them. The Fed designs weren't really to my taste either, but at least they weren't stuck with a choice of: Centipede head, Starfox polygon head... or the one that looks like the Klingon Empire might actually have designed it. Plus, I like most of the KDF designs, so choosing the Worst was kind of a toughie.

    Dishonorable Mentions
    • Fed
      • Battle Cruiser (with Arbiter Saucer/Avenger Hull), Cochrane/Discovery, DSSV's, Fleet Advanced Escort, Fleet Assault Cruiser

Emphasis mine. If we're including kitbashes, the avenger saucer+nacelles goes very nicely on the arbiter hull+pylons. The arbiter's deflector is sexaaaay. It works in the same way the Aventine does, sleek lines with a little boxy in the right places.

Although it's not really a looker, I'm also fond of a kitbash I invariably make out of the Tier 2 escorts, combining the Gladius and Ushaan classes.

Nah, that was my emphaisis as well. The Avenger/Arbiter combo received both an Honorable Mention and a Dishonorable Mention, depending on how you arrange the parts. One combo looks pretty good, the other combo looks awfully bad.

Best designs go to the Breen ships. A proper space ship doesn't need wings, symmetry or any of that pretty nonsense. Asymmetric vessels always look built for purpose so I naturally prefer them.
Actually, a proper spaceship needs both wings and symmetry. The wings are needed to increase the surface area so that the ship can dissipate heat, and symmetry is needed so that the ship doesn't simply fly in circles because its engines don't align with its center of mass.
Wings, or just a large surface area? A ring or hollow cylinder might work as well, and have the advantage of radiating heat equally. It might also make it easier to make it rotate when exposed to direct sunlight (something the space shuttle for example had to do) or even to create artificial gravity.

That's only necessary for atmospheric flights, in space you don't need symmetry.

And I agree. Using a ship involves mostly viewing it from behind, and that thing looks like a friggin terrapin - it's the Starship equivilent of Great A'Tuin and, in my opinion, looks awful.

I would pay zen to be able to fly Great A'Tuin. Might be a bit on the larger side scalewise though.

For me, the best looking ship this game has ever produced, was a kitbashed Star Cruiser. I didn't pick it at level 40 because of the sci heavy, but I gladly got hold of the Mirror Assault cruiser when it first came out. Right now, if there will be a T6 Star Cruiser of any sort, size, shape that is playable (it doesn't have to be the very best, like no ship ever was, because that is completely unrealistic to expect), but as long as I can make her work, I will get that ship definitely. Just because of the amazing creations you can make with kitbashing on that ship. As a second would be the Excelsior, that ship looks like they took a good look at the Constitution, figured out each weak part of the ship and build the extremely durable Excelsior. Thin neck? Replaced by a big one! Spread out design that is easy to hit? Made to be a compact one! Small hull section? Lets transform that into a very durable one!

The worst? Well, there is the Krenim warship, which one of my fleetmembers has. Its not that ugly per se, but it has the very simple problem that it looks like it belongs in that Austin Powers scene they did in two different movies. Which is exactly how it has become known for the lot of us, and called as well. Otherwise, I always felt the otherwise-excellent Oddysey totally messed up with the neck. I know the design reason for it, but I simply never liked it at all.

You still need it, unless you want to make a very complicated thruster setup to address the mass imbalances the asymmetry will cause. If the left is heavier than the right, your ship will always tend to turn to the right, unless you produce thrust to compensate. Of course, if you can achieve visuals symmetry without mass symmetry , sure, you could do it - but it would probably still be a lot simpler to just make your ship symmetric in the first place. Things might still get complicated enough once you try to also load up people and supplies and take care of imbalanced symmetry there, too.

Pretty sure our fellow forumite, Mustrumridcully, would share that view ;)

But I want a distraction from my real life when playing STO! I already fly with the Great A'Tuin.

    thread necro time.

5 ugliest ships in order(1. being the worst)

    1. Odyssey: this ship looks like the sovereign's obese cousin with a hole in its neck and worse proportions. really dont understand how so many of you picked this as your favorite
    2. guardian: I honestly don't know what they were thinking
    3. all 3 of the fed intel ships. cryptic really screwed those up lol
    4. Jaeih class rom pilot ship: those wings....
    5. imperial class: this gives me cancer

    5 nicest ships in order

    1. Sovereign: the peak of federation ship design. not many ships come close to this for me
    2. regent: cryptic did a great job with this skin, but it doesn't trump the original
    3. khopesh: smooth version of the scimitar, really nice looking imo
    4. mercury pilot escort: one of the few escorts cryptic designed that actually looks great
    5. Galaxy x dreadnought: the 3 nacelle design really grew on me after flying it for 2 years

Several of Cryptics variations on the canon Starfleet designs are...bad. Special dishonorable mentions to the Phoenix, Polaris and and all variations of the Galaxy and Defiant.

Overall the worst I'd have to say are the Fed Dyson Destroyers. The KDF and Romulan ones look pretty decent, the Starfleet ones look like a badly botched attempt to carve an Intrepid out of a bar of soap.

Best, probably a tie between the Steamrunner and the 'classic' Akira for me. Which is somewhat frustrating because I don't particularly like Escorts. Of the ships I do fly, favorites are probably the Vanguard, Vesta, and Cheyenne.

Actually, whilst I agree with most of what you say, where the Defiant is concerned I personally prefer the Sao Paulo skin. They hit all the right notes with the Sao Paulo design in my view.

Should probably have specified I meant the 'standard' variants, ie the Gallant and Valiant.

Brain's...brain's! - Worst looking ship in the game is, by a considerable margin, the eclipse. I can't kit bash that thing into anything remotely okay to look at. My favorite ship has always been the d'deridex class warbird...very imposing looking ship. If we are talking about cryptic designs I think the fed pilot escorts look pretty good, the command cruisers, and the flag ship's are all good.

That's funny. I run that ship with a 4 skin and the Phantom's nacelles and I love how the ship looks. It's practically my favorite right now by leaps and bounds. I suppose it's a matter of preference though.

best ship = my modified Eclipse. I love the Phantom Nacelles here and the Beta Saucer with the Beta Pylons keep the ship from looking too much like a raver's paradise. Add in a skin that looks more conventionally Star Fleet and with the hard angles and utilitarian design, it's got an asthetic that I think sometimes gets away from modern Star Trek ships where everything becomes overly curvy or in the case of the Romulans an opportunity to create space birds from Tim Burton's nightmares. screenshot_2016-05-24-18-47-06.jpg

The worst, for me, goes to the Avenger class that looks sort of like my modified Voyager ship that I made from legos when I was roughly 8-10 yrs of age! I hate to disrespect any Cryptic ship designers as of late (though, the early STO ship designers could have cared more), but I hate this ship even more than the Dyson ones. At least you can chock their ugliness up to alien tech. The Avenger has Fed skins and all! 72fa19e2de06373ce94682bdf708ceb51381341800.jpg
UGH! Star Trek + Lego = Barf!

Not saying I would be opposed to a lego Star Trek game (in fact, I'd be stoked (no pun), but just not in this game.
