The Prometheus and Defiant used to be VERY popular Escorts years ago.

Defiant yes Prometheus not so much. Defiant was called the cheap JHAS. Then came the Kumari. Prometheus was never that big with the playerbase. What you saw was the lvl40 feddy bear freebie rickety barge.

Lacking the mega-lottery JHAS, would I be correct in assuming that this would be a reasonable stopgap for a tac that sdtill wants to fly an escort, but for old-times sake, rp reasons, stubborness and a lack of willingness to join the dps crapshoot, wants to run a torp launcher or two and would love to use Concentrate Firepower?

Seems a bit naff to stick the Command abilities in the eng slot though, escorts are squishy enough as it is without having to give up eng hull heals.

Not too keen on losing my 5 forward weapon slots either :/

Well in the game's current state, don't fly an escort. Period.

The main selling point of this ship is probably the upcoming Admiralty system where you will need T6 ships to do anything useful.

I like it, its devastating with high DPS. But how do I separate the saucer? I don't see any console or command.

The, ahh, console comes on the tier 5 Multi-Vector Advanced Escort in the C-store.

That being said, it feels pretty powerful and seemed to do good DPS. No ones parser was working right, but it seems the elements of the vector can do plasma damage as well as the piloted piece when it's broken down, so DPS might not be bad.

Yeah blitzy4 - I asked and got disappointed on another thread already. But it is a good ship, fast maneuverable and packs a punch. I'm not buying another ship just for saucer separation so I won't know if that's any good or not.

PLEASE BUFF THE SHIP ,it's way under powered. It needs one of the tac bo,s to be universal , so we can use the command bo powers .We cant give up our ENG heals . And 4 forward and 4 aft weapons ,Would give us a Soild escort we could fly for a year or so ,it looks cool ,But looking cool is the last thing your thinking when a pilot , or phanton flys though your wreckage ,Right now its a one week throw away.... That ship and your player base deserve better ,We are still playing when most have already abandon ship over your inaction in STO pvp, and i am still hopeing you ll see the light and give us true space war zones with a territory control system ,,After all keeping us happy , keeps your job security ,

The MV console from the earlier Prometheus is about as decent as any of the equivalent consoles are with other ships. The difference is if such a style is enough to warrant the extra purchase if you don't have it already.

The MV console had 3 different modes that change the behavior of the ship. Before all this stuff about fast flying Escorts, Pilot Ships, etc. became a widespread deal, the old Prometheus with that console was already zooming around very fast.

One thing I want to specify is that the separated units' AI suck, just like all NPCs in this game. Galaxy saucer, Odyssey chevron, Haakona / Prometheus separated units. They die fast and they don't do anything meaningful. The only reason to use these consoles is how they change the behavior of the ship.

@warmaker001b while what you said is essentially true, it's also true that when the flight characteristics actually made a difference was way back when it was one of the few escorts in the game and you needed the extra maneuverability in pvp matches. Now there are plenty of very maneuverable escorts in the game that don't need to sacrifice a console slot to get it. Mvam adds nothing to the ship for pve as the pets are useless and added maneuverability is just as irrelevant for an already maneuverable ship.

It is an interesting scenario Cryptic put themselves in. The Pilot Ships are so unquestionably good, that every other Escort, even those that come out after them, are compared to them and are all found wanting.

Agreed. I thought after the pilot escorts that all escorts at t6 would be similar, but it looks like I was mistaken. Unfortunate result is that ship's like the Prometheus are just not on par.

Look i have all the Andorins,Old multi Vec,Armitage ,Avenger ,bellerophon, constellatoin. All defiants ,Eclipse ,All pilots ,All Galaxys and Gal X, Guardian ,Vesta ,Nebula , Phantom, Regent and so on and so on , I own almost all the ship in game and been playing since STO started the Multi Vec is my favrote ship and untill YOU BUFF THE SHIP I WILL NOT BUY IT ,it's way under powered compared to the other ships , You change 1 tac bo to a universal ,and it would be a good ship If you made 4forward4 aft weapons it would be on par with others,You took a soild iconic fed ship ,and released it as a throw away,,,Your player base deserves better ,,,

4/4 weapons are cruisers. This is an escort. Why do so many people fail to understand the basic set of rules ships follow in this game?

And the update cannot be significantly different from the predecessor to warrant the gameplay choices people had before. All this whining for instant I win ships really makes me cringe.

Agreed. Whilst it's true that the ship is underpowered compared to a pilot ship and command was not the best choice for it's special abilities it's still more than capable of easily defeating any content in this game. My problem with it is two fold, firstly the MVAE console is from another ship which means newer players need to buy both ships to get it making this one helluva expensive average escort. Secondly the pets themselves as I and others have said need serious reworking to make them useful. If they just tied in the boff powers from our main ship and applied them to the pets simultaneously then they would hit harder and last longer. (...)

I'm not arguing with any of this. Pet control, especially for non-hangar pets is terrible and the lack of the MVAM, the defining and prime feature of this ship (even if only in style) makes this a very half-hearted purchase. Separation of any kind should be built into the ships, no exceptions. The free T5 advanced escort should not be able to separate, even the fluff text says it is intentionally not able to do so.

I have to agree i like the ship and the Multi-vector aspect of the ship, but yet just like with the other seperation console abiltiies I wish they would impliment either a hanger-pet like Ui (or even just a UI like the one used for controling an using your boff's ability in ground combat) that way we could actually micro-manage the pets an use them in a fashion that feels like a crew of well drilled officers. I mean if you were going to be a crew member on a ship like these (most of all one that would be either on the main or sub-bridge of a ship that could seperate either for offensive or defensive purpose) than you would think they would be drilled to coordinate their actions together thru communication array or ques.

I will agree i do wish that they would make either the ensign or Lt. commander tactical into a universal seat over a tactical seat to give us more flexibility. My favorite layout was the refit/tempest Patrol escort since even though it had only four seats (Commender tactical, Lt. com sci, Lt. com engineer, and Lt. com Uni) it gave you a very flexible building platform to work off. though in this case the new advanced tactical patrol is pretty much a upgraded version of the multi-vector advanced tactical partrol in seating as it has almost the same seating with just increasing one or two seats by a station level.
  • warr182warr182 Member Posts: 49 Arc User
The tempus has 4and4 weapons so the new Multi Vec haveing much needed fire power is not that far fetched ,The BO seat is the main problem. It has to have 1 of the tac seats changed to a universal , before the id would buy it, This ship should be a bad as? , Its a t5 at best ,,,Patch and fix ,,The players have spoken ,,,No one i know is buying it either ,,,,a sad end to the prometheus ....Who knows mabey sale 's will motivation to fix it,
  • dalnar83dalnar83 Member Posts: 2,420 Arc User
It is highly unlikely the seating will be changed now that the ship is released.

The Tempest has a fixed aft turret, that's not the same as a fourth weapon.

And all the doom and gloom - it's a canon ship and it's decent enough, it will sell well enough. Even if nobody you know buys one pig-3.gif
