Ok, I'm sold on this... I can make a new Fed and new KDF character for this event and park my other characters for a time.
The rewards are better than I expected and MUCH appreciated.
The account-wide Mark unlocks aren't necessary for my old characters, but those can simply be converted to Dil later on.
Here is a question though... If I wait until AFTER the new Reputation "Iconian"-something I am assuming is added, will the account-wide reward of 250 marks cover that as well? Or will the 250-mark reward only cover the current reputations?
Regardless, overall, this is a good thing and I can honestly say I will enjoy it.
Delta Recruits is the best event ever and the players will surely enjoy it!

All I have to do is create a character during this event and it will automatically become a Delta Recruit. I don't have to select anything special in particular in the character creation screen.
I'm rolling a Fed Engineer just on the fact i can claim two ships from the c-store for the free upgrades they get as my main has the upgraded versions
"The meaning of victory is not to merely defeat your enemy but to destroy him, to completely eradicate him from living memory, to leave no remnant of his endeavours, to crush utterly his achievement and remove from all record his every trace of existence. From that defeat no enemy can ever recover. That is the meaning of victory."

cryptic, you have outdone yourself with this event, I cant wait to be a part of it.
luckily for the first 10 days I will be able to spent a goodly amount of time in playing my delta.
I sure do love this game!
When I think about everything we've been through together,
maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,
and if that journey takes a little longer,
so we can do something we all believe in,
I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.
Just so I'm clear, will these DOFFs be character bound or account bound? If character bound, I am not looking forward to having several different crafting characters with their own specific crafting skills.
most all of us don't want/need another toon. If it wasn't for the account wide buff, 99% wouldn't bother with this at all.
How about you just let us BUY the account rewards and save us the tedium of being forced to replay old content yet again.
I don't see how you're being FORCED to play the content.
Besides, according to the trek radio interview with Geko, there's going to be slight differences to the story and newer cutscenes. Aren't you a bit curious to see what these changes are?

Bound to character, if I remember right from earlier in the thread.

Correct?
You have to complete the Tutorial. But that's it! Pretty low barrier for entry.

They've only confirmed that the Aegis DOFF will be bound-to-character.
Considering they're handing out random crafting doffs, I'd be sorely disappointed if they were bound-to-character as well - but maybe someone official can shed some light on the topic?
I will give an Andorian a shot. And see what I can get. My goal is around Lv10. I still want to play my main 3 to keep them going. Since I hadn't got to Lv60 yet.
Due to my limited playing time. I will do what I can.

because they are giving out account wide traits, so if you don't participate you will always be behind other people.
If there was no account wide give aways a good many of us would simply ignore this for the metric fluffing gimmick it is.

Might fluff the metrics but it's still nice what they're giving to us account wide. I've got a few friends that will actually get into the game since they won't be so gimped upon hitting 50 after I explained things to them.
I haven't been here since STO opened or been very active until LoR or DR, but it's also huge for me since I really only have one character and almost no real gear/dil/etc.

Good many won't bother if there was no account wide rewards, you say? So? Who cares what other players do in this game? You really must have a dreary outlook on life. It's only a game, play it or not, it's your decision... it's not like it's an all-important thing in your life.

After garnering quite a lot of R+D Doffs, I've found that the only one which is bind on acquire is the Aegis Doff. The rest all follow a bind on equip (placed on active duty) standard. My guess is (though of course a Dev may come in here and say I'm wrong) that the other Doffs we'll get are ones which already exist in the game and thus will be bind on equip.
Join date is wrong, I've actually been around since STO Beta.
True alters don't have a "main". Account wide unlocks for all unique event rewards!!
There is no such thing as account bound doffs. Doffs can't be put in the account bank so it would be impossible to transfer them. Account bound items can't be mailed.
Fair enough. Crux of my question was if they would be character bound or not.
I have to say I'm really looking forward to this, especially since I think I might have a group a friends willing to come along for the ride.
My only disappointment is that the Crafting DOFF can't be moved around on the account, which makes it pretty much a waste for me. My main already has all the schools at 15+, I'm not going to level them on an alt any more then needed for the bonuses.

Gumarre acquired through R&D assistance can't be moved either.
Ended up with two of him on someone I was just running the doff mission on. My actual crafter so far has 0.
This is my Risian Corvette. There are many like it, but this one is mine.
When you say account wide..are you referring to everything you start once
the Delta Recruitment event starts..or account wide for everything you have to date?
For the "goals" during the event does that mean, for example, we must get a Delta Recruit to level 50 during the event to get the reputation starter pack thing for the recruit? Or can we work towards that after the event has ended on a character created during the event?
Some clarity on what exactly has to be done during the event to unlock rewards and what can still be unlocked after the event ends would be nice.
Again I digress, the Q&A seems to imply that Delta Recruit characters created during the event can still unlock all of the various rewards event after the event ends.
In this case, it's a discussion we have already had internally. We want you to claim your Delta Recruit rewards during the event, not sit on them for any reason. So our decision has been made, and won't change.
Wouldn't characters created after the event receive them after the event? That just seems tricky to guarantee with an account unlock. I could have sworn that multiple choice boxes in the past eventually wound up including later marks.

Oy vey my head be spinning. Still excited though.
From what I understand:
Everything in this blog is going to be accessible "forever". Get a character built & tutorialed during the event (therefore a Delta Recruit) up to L5 crafting during the christmas event? You'll get the assosciated pack for the recruit and account wide.
There will be "other" goals during the event. These will give weekly bonuses. They will have to be hit by X amount of the server population during that week. These goals have yet to be announced, and may not be announced until the appropriate point in the event...
Detecting big-time "anti-old-school" bias here. NX? Lobi. TOS/TMP Connie? Super-promotion-box. (aka the two hardest ways to get ships) Excelsior & all 3 TNG "big hero" ships? C-Store. Please Equalize...

I don't quite understand the necessity to have a new player on par with a veteran. Of course veterans should have better resources. They've been playing longer and that's part of the reward for the time investment. Were I to start a new MMO, I'd never expect to be equal to a veteran there. It's an unrealistic expectation.
This event is ok and I'll probably roll an alt for it, I just think Dev time would have been better spent on other content.
In games like EvE, that's true. In games like WoW, you're really supposed to be able to catch up on any given expansion.
The idea is that player resources are supposed to be pumped through and/or discounted and the veteran is supposed to hit a flat ceiling that other people can catch up to periodically.
Seeing as how STO is a casual game (by design) and was designed more like WoW than EvE, I think the intent (imperfectly implemented as it may be) is that players are meant to hit a ceiling that newer players can catch up to and that any gains past that ceiling are meant to be modest and expensive enough to keep players roughly equal.
