(Note: Doffing is the single biggest thing I do in STO - I can do it in short bursts during outside distractions and generally at a self-pace. I thank Cryptic very much for trying to leave DOFFING as unaffected as possible during this change.)
First, without sector boundaries it is easy to move from map to map without having completely finished with the DOFFING menus on the current map - is there any way to have an option to stop the ship from crossing sector boundaries while in DOFFING menus without requiring you to start engines again? There were two issues under the old system - one was that you explicitly had to "warp" to a new sector and the other was that you had to restart and power up your engines again once there. Maybe there could be an option while in DoFFing menus that is similar to the old WARP option but maintains your current engine speed? Or some other decent alternative that the design team comes up with. I'm not fond of the idea of having to pick a destination, fly there, then DOFF, then pick another destination, fly there, DOFF, etc., that seems to defeat part of the purpose of the whole thing (at least for DOFFing for me anyway.)
Second...the Assignments were grouped usually by "sector block" and now we will have to experiment to see which sectors are the same and which change, (unless this has already been addressed). Is there any way to note this on the map somehow, or in some other reference, or some other solution so we don't have to "guess" and "learn"?
I am sure the Dev team must have thought about these...and I would ot be surprised if they have their own ideas already in planning, but I thought I better ask this now while things are still in development.
Without the ability to pop in and DOFF, for short periods sometimes, during outside distractions and at a self-pace, STO loses much of its attraction to me.
Yeah, that is a bit of a pain. Perhaps they could adjust the auto pilot feature to bring us within maybe half a light year of the star or something? That should put us on the outer edge of the system for most of them which would make it easier to navigate to whichever planet or station we're wanting to go to without having to turn around and get out of the blinding sun to try and find where it is we're supposed to be going.
Would also make more sense canon-wise since warp drive was typically avoided inside a system.

got an easier means, you get one pop up, then if you fail to accept the warning and you keep going into klingon territory, you are forced into a level adapated DSE with no XP or spec gain, once in the DSE you have no means to warp out and you have 2 carriers, 10 neghvars, 20 cruisers, 50 BOPs and a countless amount of shuttle/fighters to deal with just you in your own instanced DSE, if you survive that, you get 10 dreadnaughts and 30 neghvars. the only way out is death of your ship. after that point you are then put 5 lightyears away from the klingon border.
Each time you enter one of these DSEs, its automatically set to elite and you gain 2x the amount of injuries you would get usually and these ones actually cost EC.
After the forced DSE you are given a 60 minute cooldown, that any attempt at crossing the Klingon border would result in a self-destruct that would trigger a 24 hour cooldown and no higher plus additional random injuries, again cost EC.
same goes for federation territory for a klingon.
you want a deterrent, you have one with that. spare the rod spoil the child.

Feedback on sector space revamp after the Tribble patch on February 27, 2015
I wasn't able to test everything I wanted to this weekend, but here is my feedback on what I did test.
1. I can't zoom out very far using the mouse wheel. I can change the camera distance using the command /camdist, but the camera zooms back in afterwards. If the camera doesn't zoom back in right away, then sometimes changing the camera angle by left-click dragging the screen causes the camera to zoom back in. I tested this on a T5 Chimera Heavy Destroyer.
2. The same number represents a different distance from the ship in sector space than in system space. I typed "/camdist 35" to set the camera distance to 35. A camera distance of 35 in sector space is much farther away from the ship than a camera distance of 35 in system space. I have four keybinds set to different camera distances. I would hate having to maintain two sets of keybinds: one for system space and one for sector space. The reason I have so many keybinds is to work around this old camera zoom bug:
This bug started in Season 6 and has never been fixed.
3. There are fewer assignments under Current Map, but more assignments under the department heads. Some people have said that assignments which used to appear under Current Map are showing up under the department heads. When I cross the border from one sector to another with the Current Map tab open, I sometimes see assignments appear and disappear within one second.
4. It is not clear to me whether assignments are supposed to be per sector or per group of sectors. I know that the old sector blocks no longer exist, but are sectors still grouped for doffing purposes? Clarification on how this is supposed to work would be appreciated.
5. Is the doff UI supposed to automatically refresh when you cross the sector border, or do you have to close and reopen the doff window? I've seen both behaviors happen, so I'm not sure which is intended.
6. The icons for systems, stations, and clusters look too big on the mini-map. I suspect that the icons are using a different scale from the rest of the mini-map. For example, when the mini-map is scaled to 50%, the icons are scaled to only 90%. These are not the exact percentages, but something similar must be happening. It's possible that the icons are using the scale for main map instead of the scale for the mini-map. The same problem appears on Holodeck, but it's more noticeable on Tribble because there are more systems. Take a look at the screenshots below. They were taken after zooming the mini-map to maximum size and then clicking the minus button 30 times.
While in one of the old deep space encounters, I was able to activate Fleet Support at 100% hull.
8. The "Beam Up" window at Starfleet Academy still refers to the Sirius Sector Block. The "Beam Out" window at Klingon Academy still refers to the Omega Leonis Sector Block.
9. The transwarp list still refers to the Tau Dewa Sector Block and the Delta Sector Block. Also, the order of the transwarp list on Tribble is different from the one on Holodeck.

10. When you fly near the border between quadrants, a window with your boff pops up asking if you would like to cross the border. Consider replacing the pop-up window with a simple button that says "Enter the XYZ Sector". I don't need a boff asking me whether I want to cross what should be a contiguous region of space.
11. Please consider bringing back Tribble Weekend in order to test the system under heavy load.
12. The commands "/showfps 1" and "showCamPos 1" no longer work. They are broken in sector space, in system space, and on the ground.

Yes, I agree with this somewhat, but don't fault the people too much. this game has a certain initial demographic. Trekkies, rather than MMOGamers.
But as STO has a pretty good FTP model, (ignores instant ragedoom rant caused by that comment) and plays well overall, (continues to ignore rant) so more gamers got into it as well, but the game had already gone in the direction it was headed to by then.
a lot of people got into this game because of the IP, not to play an MMO. Including me. back when this game launched, I had never played an MMO (the Scape of Rune (because apparently i cant say the actual name of the game?) and POTC online dont exactly count) but i was like "Yay, Star Trek" (my god did I suck, i was trying to play like it was Bridge Commander)
Then I found out what actual MMO's are like, this isn't it. the community is all but silent in game, and the content is geared toward mostly Single player gameplay. and normal MMO's are frikkin Hard, with Major death penalties. but they also have commonalities. LOL the "grind" here is nothing compared to Normal MMO's
So what STO is is a game trying to bridge the gap between the Single player minded and the MMO minded player, and it sometimes works, sometimes doesnt.
the game is what it is, and I accept that, but its not that they want it weak, its just that the vast majority who started on this game have no experience with MMO's outside of this game.
and i totally forgot where i was going with this but i typed all of it so i left it here.
Firstly, I like the feel of the galaxy being a bit larger and the idea of the star systems is a welcome change. However, the stars balloon in size too quickly. I suggest starting their "expansion" sooner and having that expansion slowed down to give more to the illusion of traveling through big space.
A balancing act for sure.
Also, I hope the stars will have more detail to them upon launch. The mixture of a the rapidly growing sun and minimal graphics feels arcadish.

You might of got into this game because of the IP but that doesnt mean that the MMO aspect of it which it was advertised as should of suffered because of people never playing an MMO before. Those who rallied for the changes had their part in putting this game on a path that 5 years later we're still seeing the effects.
ESO pulled a lot of Elder Scroll Fans who'd never played an MMO before but Zenimax didnt fold to the cries and whines of those crying for the MMO aspects to be removed. You can still jump into delves in that game and run into a stranger. The truth is Cryptic should of never folded.
I really like the new big space map ... but have immediatly noticed 3 things i do not like about it.
2. Had a few times, that after a map transition i came in at the bottom ... flying to a waypoint/destination works, but when flying at the bottom you miss all the pretty sights.
3. Zoom level ... please increase the range .... i really like my ship up close, but when at max zoom-out i still fill 75% of the screen with a star/sun ... that is not fun to look at very long.
1. Severe reduction in transwarp possibilities ... please consider a quick travel option ... the Lore ingame is that we now have transwarp network and hubs to travel with please enable something .. paying for it .. ok ... but please consider some options ...
when clicking a far off waypoint ... beside the arrow, give a warp-icon, with a cost of ... for example... 5k credits per sector block ....
That aside ... it already took ages to get to drozana or k7 station when u reached those missions with a starter character ... i suspect flying there now with a low level character takes ages ....... *shudders at the thought*

Sorry about my slow reply, taco, what I meant by the astrometrics looking odd is that when scraping the bottom of the map, I"m not sure if it's a visual illusion or something else, but it looks like the grid is moving sideways to the ship somehow. Made me dizzy to look at it. ^_^
Not sure if that's just my eyes playing tricks on me or something else, I'll look again of course.

I do like the idea of a continuous space travel. Although, the stars with a system seem a little to round now, like a ball, maybe a star effect as before, then grow in size as you approach the system...
When entering a system, you just appear in that system... as if your de-cloaking. I do hope you guys don't remove the warping in a system effect. I like that effect when doing missions or entering random maps. It makes for great video's. Everything else looks as if it's coming along nicely...

I'm guessing you haven't actually been on Tribble yet? The stars don't look like that until you get very close to them, they appear more like they do currently from a distance on Holodeck. Then as you approach them (within a couple of light years) they start to expand and the planets appear.

Don't know if this has been mentioned/suggested already, but it would be nice if we could click a location in a different quadrant and automatically start heading that way. Say I'm over in the Alpha Quadrant, and I want to head to K-7, there should be an option where I can select K-7 and the ship I'm in will start flying to the Beta Quadrant and then (once I've crossed over) would continue on it's way down south.
Hope that's possible.
Furthermore, as also mentioned above, travel could do with being reduced. Maybe a few warp jump points around the maps to help us get from one corner to another quicker or something?

even simpler would be to do what is done for the borg sector alerts, or some of the enemy contacts out near cardasian space. just have some "enemy" ships cruising sector space, and as you come near them, the prompt for enemy contact comes up. simple, and it gives you a preview of what sort of baddies you are going to get.

Vestalan System: Plotting a course to it puts your ship right on the star's surface... Probably also happens with a few other system.
BOff contacts (e.g., warp to next Quadrant, navigation info, red alert notifications) are erroneously displayed with a viewscreen frame (although they are supposed to be on your own bridge) and without or the wrong bridge background (Galaxy-style and not Origin style for FED).

Actually, there might be 'slight' canon issues, because the Ferasans aren't a made-up race - they're actually the Kzinti from TAS, or at least based off them (couldn't get the rights to that name, thus why they're called Ferasan)

If we would just switch out the Kzin for the Ferasans then they too would be outside playable space and nowhere near Cardasian space where the Ferasan doff chain for the exchange program currently is. If fact "Patriarchy" space is closer to Romulan space than Klingon space and is completely surrounded on all borders by the Federation. Ferasians would also have to cut right through the middle of Federation space or partally Federation and Romulan to get to the Klingon Empire.

By all rights, a few systems already on the map now should be outside playable space - but they're not, because the gameplay must come first, even while trying to be as accurate as possible. And since the Ferasans essentially are the Kzinti, the same would apply to them; they should be outside playable space, but could have their planet put elsewhere
Also, the Ferasan Doff Chain in Cardassian space isn't the only one regarding them - there's an 'Unforgiven' chain for the KDF that spans across the Regulus, Pi Canis, and Fed-KDF Neutral Zone areas. Perhaps around there could work for the planet too

True enough, but the Unforgiven chain could also be an implication, given the current operations in referenced sectors

On the other having these systems in their "cannonical" locations could give some interesting opprotunities. Example; having Cait so close to the Tholian border could open up a opportunity for a Tholian space battle-zone or a Tholian story arc. Having Ferasa on the opposite side from klingon space could explain why the Ferasans haven't contributed ships of their own to the KDF like the Orions and Nausicans have. So now that a ceasefire has been negotiated The Patriarchy could now support the KDF with ships of their own make and design. Problem with that is that it was said somewhere that Cryptic didn't want to make non-Klingon ships for the Klingon faction any more.

Would also make more sense canon-wise since warp drive was typically avoided inside a system.

If this game was in any way MMO friendly in this sense Id have offered up the suggestion of DSEs attacking on site. As that would be more immersive in regards to everything pre-Surface Tension. But this game will never return to what it should of been. And we have to accept that people want their MMO experience to be as watered down as possible.
one of the things I noticed too....
at first I thought there was some kind of collision issue and I we couldn't go thru suns... the I realized I was at my destination. but sometimes had to move a little to get the pop ups
Oops, no apologies necessary, it was my fault for not wording it correctly.
Good news on the Quadrant landmarks, then!
Camera zoom keeps resetting every map change.
Camera distance resets on map changes

7. According to commanderander, deep space encounters are supposed work differently now, but I still see the old enemy signal contacts around DS9.

*shudders at the thought*
also a good point, never said it was a good thing, just stating what happened.
Not sure if that's just my eyes playing tricks on me or something else, I'll look again of course.
I'll also +1 the bloom comments. It's not about "high end systems". I have 16 gb memory, a big i7 8 core, and an nVidia GTX Titan Black. And I have my bloom turned way down as well. Because on standard level it is BLINDING.
I've been playing tribble for a while. The stars are a big round glowing spot with a haze in the new sector block outside of SOL. They are not as before! I like the way sector space looks... other than the big glowing stars in sector space and just appearing in a system, not warping in...
Bugs/Errors:
STOWiki admin.
I hardly think that's changed at all here, at least much
Been playing STO since Open Beta, and have never regarded anything as worse than 'meh', if only due to personal standards.
Ferasa you guys could put anywhere so because it doesin't really have any cannon issues.
Cait on the other hand while I got that's a only planet in the 15 Lyncis system actually nailing a fixed spot for the system got tricky. Using the source you guys where using for the sector revamp put 15 Lyncis way outside playable space. Someone else in my fleet told me it should be somewhere in the beta quadrant near Romulan space and then someone else said going by the real stars location it's IN Romulan space.
You guys have probably used hundreds of working hours resolving problems like this.
Sorry, misunderstood what you meant. Thought you were saying you thought they were big open systems with planets all the time. I would like to keep them the shape they are, but it'd be nice if they'd tone down the bloom a bit.
And I'm not just saying that; Memory Alpha agrees: http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/Kzinti (under the 'Kzinti in novels' section), as well as STO's wiki
Edit: As stated though, this is just the initial build of the new Sector Space - they easily have room to expand other planets in when they get the chance

DS9 itself also causes some issue about the location of AR-558, as an okudagram graphic seen onscreen has the relay some distance "north" of DS9, Starbase 375, and the badlands in Federation space: DS9 screencap #1; DS9 screencap #2. There's no way Chin'toka can both be a Cardassian world as claimed in the show and have AR-558 located in the same system.

I'm aware of the Unforgiving of Ferasa chain assignments. I just referenced the Ferasan "Diplomacy" doff chain as it kinda implied a general location of Ferasa.
I simply think it's unclear, but at the same time, being closer to KDF space would make it easier than your mentioned bypassing of Cardassian and Federation space

I'm not exactly clear how you came to your conclusion based on that Okudagram.
