Official Feedback Thread for the Sector Space Revamp

coldsnappedcoldsnapped Member Posts: 520 Cryptic Developer
Please use this thread to post all feedback and issues found for the new Sector Space revamp. If you come across the following two issues, please be specific on the information so we can better resolve the issue:
  • Transwarps that take the player to the wrong location - Please list where the transwarp is from (mission, ship, beaming from system to sector).
  • Ships where the camera is either too far above or inside the ship in Sector Space - Please name the ship.

Also, when providing feedback, please let us know what how it feels flying through Sector space such as:
  • Turn Rate
  • Going to Full Impulse
  • Flight Speed

New Feature:

Sector Space Revamp:
  • Sector Space has been revamped into three Sector maps:
    • Alpha Quadrant
    • Beta Quadrant
    • Delta Quadrant
  • The Alpha and Beta Quadrants are separated by the Traffic Controller contact in the same fashion the previous Sector map transfers functioned.
  • The Delta Quadrant can be accessed in the same way through the Gateway in the Jouret Sector.
  • This revamp also includes additions to:
    • A different feel of flight through Sector Space.
    • An update to make the Astrometics option more useful for players by creating a grid which helps let the player know where they are.
      • This option can be shut off with the already existing Enable/Disable Astrometrics button.
    • Some system art updates throughout the environment.
  • Sector Space specific Duty Officer Missions will still be available.
    • The transwarps to these locations will still bring the player to the correct spots to start these Duty Officer missions.
  • Foundry missions will have minimal impact.
    • If a door in a Foundry mission is connected to an old Sector door, it will be re-directed to the new Sector Space map.
  • This is still a work in progress.
  • For more details, please visit the Sector Space Revamp blog at: http://www.arcgames.com/en/games/star-trek-online/news/detail/9078783-sector-space-revamp

Known Issues:
  • Sector Space Revamp is not in a final state.
    • Some ships when placed into the new Sector Space maps will have the camera placed above or inside their ship.
    • Numerous transwarps from missions do not place the player in the correct location.

If my post doesn't count as feedback, please forgive.

The Blog looks damn cool, looking forward to the changes.

2 things I personally would be happy about: The S.S. Azura II (Trade/Bank/Exchange) could use a map icon. I know we have the Com-Codes for that freighter but the cooldown is very long.

Is an increase of the Slipstream duration planed? Maybe with a cool story about Improved Slipstream technology since 2409?

LOL there is increased warp capability, look at those trade routes in space they will boost your speed.

    ... .... ... I don't like them.

I usually transwarp but with the Mauerfall of Berlin here it could be a nice gimmick. Not talking about 100% more, but a nice little additional push.

The Unknown Comet looks like the one from the opening for DS9, really nice touch (to see the comet, just fly on the edge between the Alpha and Beta Quadrants on the Alpha Quadrant side).

    Macro's Bug List:
    • Activating Slipstream on a Fleet Aquarius makes my Ship disapear, when Viewing from the Broadside of the Ship.
      • Its Fine from For or Aft, but from the Side the Ship Disapear
    • At warp 10, my Warp/Engine Trails Stretch across the entire Map
    • My Ship Keeps Disapearing, (flickering) as I fly Across the Map

As someone who prefers to manually navigate sector space without auto-plotting course, it sounds interesting(or troll-able with Scimitars blocking the lanes). I still reserve judgement until Tribble finishes patching and I try them out first-hand though.

Well, I like the looks of it in the article but I couldn't help but notice that the Gamma Quadrant map is missing. :(

I've had a little play about on Tribble now, so far, so good.

The zoom in effect as you near a system looks great, it's a little juddery but that could be my machine, but a really nice idea and looks great.

My only complaint is that the camera seems overly tight, I can't zoom out very far from my ship and get a good look about.

Some planets that have rings do not have Rings, like Saturn and Andoria(Andor?) Gas Gaint.

There is no Gamma Quadrant in STO, you're thinking of Gamma Orionis, which is in the Beta Quadrant.

They moved it up to the top right corner of the Beta map.

It is technically meant to be below Klingon space, but they had to retcon it to fit into the map.

I know there is no Gamma Quadrant. I still want to go through the wormhole and look at that sector block.

    It was a Joke.

But there is no content there other then 1 mission, it would be a waste of resources.

    edit:

I just saw that Joke :P

    Edit:

You guys forgot to hook up the new DQ map to the Iconian gateway

I found travel times pretty good; I actually thought it'd take longer to travel from Sol to Qo'noS. Also, I doubt this warrants the hassle of being changed but Vulcan is showing as being just over 14 light years away when looking from the direction of Earth in Sol, usually the stated distance is around 16 light years.

This is great. Loving it so far.

And now here is my current bug list:
    • Aokii II has a giant white box on top of it.
    • Shuttle Pets are LOL HUEG
    • No Warp Streaks FX in Alpha Quadrant
    • Bloom on distant stars turns off suddenly as distance increases
    • Earth model is orbiting Bajor's star\
    • Can we get planets to zoom-in when we get close like the stars do?
    • Battlegroup Omega still has a transwarp option at the gate (which is a starfleet model instead of the borg model in sector space). The transwarp sends you to the old Sirius map and then bounces you to just outside Sol.
    • Saturn is missing its rings.
    • Fireworks are huge.
    • Jem'Hadar Cruiser contact for The 2800 is where DS9 used to be, and not near the station.
    • The Nerrak is also in the old location of the dilithium mining operation.

First off, absolute great work - it'll take awhile to get used to, but it's a great improvement :D

Anyway, I'm flying an Excelsior on there, with the Adapted MACO set (except for normal MACO engines, so I have Asynched Warp Field). Whenever I view my ship from the frontal 180 degrees, normal - when I view it from the aft 180 degrees, it lets out a constant scanning and/or initial Slipstream FX. When I'm moving through Sector Space, that same FX is there, but not the Asynch Warp Field... and when I do Slipstream, the FX doubles in size/intensity, and changes color, but does not show the tunneling effect.

Other than that, turn rate and travel speed (whether at full or building to full) are the same as they have been pre-patch - and while the numbers of LY's are different, the time it takes to travel seems more-or-less the same in practice.

Also, absolutely LOVE the size quotient of the stars now XD Reminds me of the remastered time-warp from 'Tomorrow is Yesterday'
    Was named Trek17.

Been playing STO since Open Beta, and have never regarded anything as worse than 'meh', if only due to personal standards.

Kar'Fi Red Flame trails are massive. Same with Borg Engine trails.
Quantum Slipstream sound fades when crossing borders between sectors areas and later comes back (sometimes in two seconds sometimes stays off for a much longer time, not all sounds cut though). Also Sound cuts out when hitting an edge of the quadrant.
Same with Kar'Fi engine sound and any other engine sound I have tested.

Consider changing the texture for the Clusters, the depiction of people seems weird. I know technically more people live in clusters but I had to really think about that. Maybe consider changing it to a group of planets with a gas cloud or something thrown in. Maybe use the people one for social systems that currently don't have the starbase or special icon.

Seginus system seems to drown my ship in bloom, basically making it seem invisible. I am at basically max settings and bloom is set to the normal 100%. I don't have a problem with it though. I kinda like it a bit. But just saying so incase someone thinks it needs changing.

Also maybe change the "Maximum warp to where the x is located" on the text for encounters should to take some bits from famous star trek captains or something. Doesn't seem to have a wow factor atm.

Zoom seems inconsistent between sector maps and systems.

The Klingon Honour Guard Deflector is much much much larger in sector space then system maps.

I love how the small map in the corner of the galaxy map shows where each of the sectors (not talking about quadrants) is compared to the galaxy.

Warping out from Qo'nos shows two loading screens (the first displays sector space for a second or less).

    Offtopic:
showfps 1 (or /showfps 1) is not working but the value is being set to 1, the HUD won't display.
    fpsgraph 1 works however.

Gorath I does not let level 60 enter ground PvP I think its hard coded to check if you are level 50 or level 14ish-50 or something like that.

Did the Warp Speed animation get adjusted? I was turning near DS9 at Warp 7 and was wondering if my engines got a power boost or something! It just seemed quicker than Warp 7 is now on Holodeck.

    interesting, but not impressed.

    1. was tooling around in my wells, basically the camera was lock rammed up its rear you could barely see around.

    2. warp 9.97 is basically warp 3 (i know its about scale)

    3. when in the grrr was earth placed in the beta quadrant?

Warp 9.97 is somewhere between 3k and 8k times the speed of light. Just pretend you're flying at time acceleration

Also it takes 5 minutes to go from the left side of the Beta quadrant to the right at 9.97, which about the same length it takes on holodeck minus loading screens.

Impressive, but buggy. The fact that stations in sector space now actually look like stations and not miniature models is awesomesauce, and the general feeling of... open space... is just awesome. However, the new field of view in sector space does all kinds of weird things, as has been posted in this thread, and sometimes stars (Particularly but not only binaries) look too bright too close together and it's strange.

    I like it a lot.

    A few minor things:

    - Some suns are just waaaaaaaay too big, perhaps? I don't recall the system exactly but one is near the southeast area of the Alpha quadrant.
    - I was able to get "inside" one of the suns while it was "growing up".
    - When you change instances, you spawn in the beginning of the map. For example, in Beta, if you change instances after making it across to the other side, you will spawn near Sol System.

Feedback, you got rid of somewhere around 900 accolade points with this update since Deep Space Encounters have been severely reduced and don't count towards the accolades. That sucks.

Only positive I can see is the reward on them.

I got to test on Tribble a bit, and I noticed a few things.

-the travel seems much slower than on holo deck. I'm not sure if travel rates are slower or systems are further apart, but it dragged on to get from place to place.

-it's hard to tell where things are because zooming out does not seem to go far enough

-Sol system only has eight planetary orbits. Pluto is sad.

My Galaxy-X's Counter Command Impulse Engine video effect is WAY too bright.

**edit** I have to agree with the need to zoom out thing. Camera is way too close.

First off, looks great to me. It feels huge. It will take some getting used to, especially with the relocation of some places. I can see some getting off course while manually flying from point A to point B.

I see that someone has already posted the 5 minute flight time from one side of Beta Quadrant to the other, at warp 9.97. Just an add on to that; with the Assimilated Borg Engine and at warp 17.78, it took 2 minutes and 50 seconds. That's not a complaint, just an observation. Makes me wonder if more people will invest in Driver Coil.

The zoom seems a bit off, can't zoom out too far and I see the rear of Eclipse mostly.

I had two Disable Astrometrics buttons which were replaced with two Enable Astrometrics buttons.

What's up with Nimbus? For a planet of Galactic Peace, I expected it to be a bit more centrally located between the three empires.

Might I suggest the H'atoria or Narendra sector. A little out of the way for feds, but fairly sparse sectors. Or possibly the Japori Sector

BUG: interact button on Beta Quadrant walll (going to alpha quadrant) is labeled" Warp to Beta Quadrant... but it functions correctly.

that really sucks, and i will have some pretty epic disappointment if that goes live.
on the upside, they seem to be taking an unusual amount of... pride in this, so maybe they will want to fix that before launch.

When turning around in sector space, can the ship get an increased turn rate since we should not require a full LY (or more) to make a U-turn. Maybe don't bring the throttle up to 50%, just 1% when turning to align.

This is literally the freshest build; of course issues would abound - also, travel speed is the same as it has been. The only difference are the numbers regarding LY distances, and lack of loading screens, so we actually save seconds/minutes on the trips now more-or-less

But anyway, regarding Earth, it's actually on the border between Alpha and Beta - they choose Beta to align it with the rest of Federation territory. And also because stellar shift would eventually put Earth just over the edge into Beta quadrant anyway

How is reduced 'getting rid of them'? And besides, not counting toward completion is pretty much a bug
