It looks so beautiful! Will we be able to "auto-zone" to another quadrant once we reach the border (complete sandwich mode)?

Fixed minus the umlaut. I don't think we have full character sets available to us, or at least, I don't know how to use them if we do.

What happens if you hold down the alt key and type 0246 on the number pad? (alt key must stay down the whole time and it only works with the number pad, not the top row numbers.). I can't promise anything if the game just doesn't have full Unicode support, but it is worth a try. :)

(Now, I don't know about Latin accents, but I can confirm the game does NOT include Cyrillic support...I have both attempted to name ships and type in chat in Russian, AND a few times forgot my Russian keyboard was still on when trying to type my password, and getting really mad because I was SO SURE the login server HAD to be borked. :D )

BTW, I FINALLY got that chapter of An Enigma Tale posted in Ten Forward, that relies heavily on the Dromias interior for its inspiration. Thanks for the awesome work there!

Taco, great job again on the whole sector space revamp.

One thing though, I do love when I fly into a system planets comes up and I can actually navigate through the system. However, I do find stars a little big. I do also wish the neighboring stars would not already pop in their big/ball form while I am still within a star system.

I guess Andoria will also get one too?

This works in some places and not in others in-game. I was attempting to name a ship after a Lamborghini model which had an accented e. It would let me do the alt codes in chat (and in the Foundry) but not in the field to name a ship. What it's like on the backend, I have no idea.

Taco I hope you do find a way to put in the umlaut. Because METAL! \m/ \m/

Once again, and sorry if I'm borring you with this, but in the context of this that you posted now - just a reminder that Ganalda Space Station doesn't have that special icon on the current 2D map nor on the new 2D map on Tribble. The Ganalda System is just marked as a star system, but in fact it's the home of Ganalda Station which is a social map - therefore I hope you can make it so Ganalda has a Klingon Starbase icon on the 2D map so new players and players new to teh faction would know that there is a social zone in that system.

Yes, I practically live out of Ganalda and most KDF don't even know it exists.

It should be added to transwarp destinations for KDF players as well.

Yeah, I didn't know Ganalda was a social map until the Day of Honor last year.

Andoria has this same problem Federation side. Vulcan just got an icon, but Andoria still looks like just another star system.

Give people a reason to go to social maps, and maybe they'll actually go there. I'd be down to duel on Andoria -- but what do I get, except kinda embarrassed if I lose and a bit of an ego boost if I win? Reward me!

this is something id like the devs to give a reply to in regards to sector space revamp, upon finally taking a trip into tribble 2 days ago, something i noticed was missing from my alts inventorys in there, spocks sector blocks data recorder, please oh please tell me this is not being removed from us that own this, i realise it may just be a tribble oversight as there are no more sector walls and spocks anouncements will no longer pertain to entering areas, but this is something that alot of us value now more than ever after leonard nimoys passing, now in the past when missions have been removed we have always been able to keep our little items that may have been pertinent to the mission itself, case being Terradomes Undine Inhibitor which i still have in my bank to this day, so please devs, tell us spocks data recorder will remain with those of us that own this item and it is just simply a tribble oversight...

Yeah, just noticed about Andoria (on the new one). Andoria also needs an icon when this goes live, it's visitable and it's a founder of the Federation after all.
The discount vendor is good when you need to pump those resources in a fleet and maybe with porting over of several less "fantasy" activities from Q's wonderland to Andoria (skating, racing, snowball fights between players) it would be more lively. Plus why no PvP annual ushaan tournament and player to player challenges?

Just wondering if the old Eta Eridani missions will survive the revamp. It looks like Traelus Satellite repair is present but I went to Alhena system for "defense contract" and it did not trigger. And I can't find the Sh'mar for "distress signal". Have "distress signal" and "defense contract" been scrapped?

I wouldn't be surprised if they've been retooled into new limited-time random space encounters (check the map every now and then). I haven't played through enough of those to comment on their scope (have only been able to make it to the borg), but at the very, very least analogous content to those old eta erandi patrols is being added...everywhere. (and on that, magnificent kudos cryptic. The sector space revamp is cool in itself but revamping sector space gameplay is even cooler.)

Few observations and feedback on the new sector space revamp (many of these may have been mentioned but not going through all the pages to check):

    1) Any chance that when we fly to a system we could park somewhere other than directly under the star in that system? It looks a little odd when one ship is parked up hard against a star, not sure what it would be like with a whole fleet.

    2) When flying around sector space the "current map" doff mission list seems rather empty with a lot of the missions missing. Also some of the new systems are completely devoid of missions on that tab.

    3) The two DSE's I've tried (Breen and Borg) the star on the map background is enclosed by a semi-transparent square which presumably should be fully transparent?

Otherwise the overhaul generally seems good and being able to fly right into a system is cool (although I could get to Wolf 359 and still had an option to Sol System (which perhaps should be labelled Earth instead of Sol? - Might alow another door for say Mars later).

Oh and the one Borg Red Alert I jumped into seemed to just be a traditional 5 ways of Borg and no Command Ship, please leave the Command ships in makes a nice change to have to fight a capital type ship as the last wave in these missions rather than just repeated waves of smaller ships every time.

Will the old Sector Commentaries voiced by Leonard Nimoy still be present in the new sector map as Captains enter areas of the mapo for the first time?

I think it is important to leave those voice clips in game.

Feedback on sector space revamp after the Tribble patch on March 6, 2015

I was waiting for another patch to see if anything had changed, but there was no patch this week, so here is my feedback on the last patch.

    1. There are multiple problems with camera zoom.

    (a) The default maximum camera distance in sector space is 12. I cannot zoom out farther than this using the mouse wheel. I can set the camera distance to 35 using the command "/camdist 35", but the camera tends to zooms back in. Sometimes, the camera zooms back in immediately. If not, then attempting to zoom out any farther using the mouse wheel will make the camera zoom in. Viewing the ship from certain angles also causes the camera to zoom back in. The user can inadvertently stumble upon such an angle just by looking around.

    (b) Ships have been scaled down in sector space. At the same camera distance, a ship looks smaller in sector space than in system space. This breaks keybinds that use the command /camdist to set the camera distance. Before the sector space revamp, I could use the same keybinds for system space and sector space. I now need twice as many keybinds, because ships are different sizes in system space and sector space.

    (c) Upon entering a system from sector space, your ship looks huge, because the camera distance remains the same but ships are much larger in system space.

    (d) When the user beams up from the ground to system space or sector space, the camera zooms in very close to the ship. This particular bug dates back to Season 6.

Holodeck ticket #3,271,917: Camera zoom bug from Season 6

The only difference now is that the camera distance is set to 12 instead of 35 when the user beams up from the ground to sector space.

Please see the following thread for details:

Technical details regarding problems with zoom

Camera zoom has been QoL issue since Season 6. It will get worse with the sector space revamp if you do not fix these problems before Season 10 goes live.

    2. There are fewer assignments under "Current Map", but more assignments under the department heads. Some people have claimed that assignments which used to appear under "Current Map" are showing up under the department heads.

    3. New assignments appear and then disappear in the "Current Map" tab. Sometimes, it happens as I cross a sector border. Other times, it happens in the middle of a sector. I've also seen the assignment list change as I cross into a new sector, but when I go back to the sector I came from, the assignment list does not change back.

    4. The department heads behave strangely when you cross a sector border. For example, if you cross a sector border while viewing assignments from the first officer, old assignments disappear but new assignments don't show up. To force the new assignments to show up, you have to click "Department Heads" again and reselect the first officer. The operations department head does not refresh automatically when you cross a sector border. To force a refresh, you have to click "Department Heads" again and reselect the operations department head.

    5. In general, it has been a frustrating experience testing the doff system on Tribble, because it's not clear how things are supposed to work. It would help greatly if a developer would answer the following questions:

    (a) Is each sector supposed to have separate assignments, or are sectors grouped together for doffing purposes like the old sector blocks? If sectors are grouped, then give us a map showing which sectors are grouped together.

    (b) Are the following tabs supposed to refresh automatically when you cross a sector border?

    Current Map
    Personal
each of the department heads including the first officer

    (c) Which assignments are supposed to appear in which sectors? Give us a data dump with the following information for each assignment:

    assignment name
    rarity
maps and sectors where the assignment appears
tabs in the doff UI where the assignment appears

    6. There are multiple problems with "Tour the Galaxy".

    (a) The timer does not count down unless you move your mouse over it or complete an objective. The same problem occurs with the old "Tour the Galaxy" on Holodeck.

    (b) The blog post said we would have more time to complete the Tour, but the time limit is still 15 minutes.

    (c) The auto-pilot does not always stop you close enough to the trigger point. You have to move slightly in order to the complete objective.

    (d) The stars, stations, and asteroids are too big and frequently get in the way. Several times, I found myself bumping into obstacles. I had to back up or fly around the obstacles before continuing.

    (e) With max driver coil and the Borg engine, I can complete the old "Tour the Galaxy" in 11 minutes with 4 minutes to spare. I could not complete the new "Tour the Galaxy": it took me 14 minutes and 30 seconds just to finish the Beta Quadrant.

    7. I saw a deep space encounter named "Deep Space Encounter: Intelligence Disaster" on the border between the Archanis Sector and the Gamma Eridon Sector. On a federation character, the deep space encounter kept flashing---appearing one moment and disappearing the next. On a KDF character, the deep space encounter did not flash, but there was no prompt to enter it.

    8. The icons for systems, stations, and clusters look too big on the mini-map. I suspect that the icons are using a different scale from the rest of the mini-map. For example, when the mini-map is scaled to 50%, the icons are scaled to only 90%. These are not the exact percentages, but something similar must be happening. It's possible that the icons are using the scale for main map instead of the scale for the mini-map. The same problem appears on Holodeck, but it's more noticeable on Tribble because there are more systems. Take a look at the screenshots below. They were taken after zooming the mini-map to maximum size and then clicking the minus button 30 times.

    Holodeck 03/02/2015: http://i.imgur.com/3u83Uns.jpg
    Tribble 03/02/2015: http://i.imgur.com/nzzoyGd.png

    9. When you fly near the border between quadrants, a window with your boff pops up asking if you would like to cross the border. Consider replacing the pop-up window with a simple button that says "Enter the XYZ Sector". I don't need a boff asking me whether I want to cross what should be a contiguous region of space. Also, the "Warp to Alpha Quadrant" button in the Beta Quadrant says "Warp to Beta Quadrant".

    10. The names of sector blocks in the mission text have been replaced with the names of quadrants. Since the quadrants are quite big, it would be more helpful to say something like "Go to the ABC System in the XYZ Sector of the Alpha Quadrant."

    11. The transwarp list still refers to the "Tau Dewa Sector Block" and the "Delta Sector Block". Also, the order of the transwarp list on Tribble is different from the one on Holodeck.

    Holodeck 03/09/2015: http://i.imgur.com/mFonOH5.png
    Tribble 03/09/2015: http://i.imgur.com/COlzPrF.png

    12. The "Beam Up" window at Starfleet Academy still refers to the "Sirius Sector Block". The "Beam Out" window at Klingon Academy still refers to the "Omega Leonis Sector Block". The "Beam Up" windows on Defera and the Defera Invasion Zone still refer to the "Deferi Sector Block". If you beam up from Defera or the Defera Invasion Zone to sector space, the system first sends you the Orellius Sector Block before sending you the Alpha Quadrant.

    13. The beam-in and warp-in animations are broken, though the beam-out and warp-out animations still work. Also, the screen flashes when you beam down to Starfleet Academy or Klingon Academy: it looks as though you enter the map twice.

    14. Many effects and animations are too big in sector space:

the plasma and warp-trail effects for the Borg engine
the warp-trail effect for the Omega engine
    the MACO deflector effect
    the transwarp animation
the deflector effect for quantum slipstream drive (Note that I'm talking about the deflector effect, not the slipstream tunnel effect.)

    15. Before Legacy of Romulus, quantum slipstream drive would continue even after crossing into a new sector block. This was broken in Legacy of Romulus. Now, crossing the border between quadrants cancels quantum slipstream drive.

Tribble ticket #35,132: Changing zones cancels quantum slipstream
Quantum SlipStream Drive stops when going into Next Sector

    16. The slipstream cooldown reduction for the Omega engine is calculated incorrectly. This bug is very old.

Holodeck ticket #1,722,948: Slipstream reduction for Omega engines calculated incorrectly

    17. The tray forgets the position of the MACO 3-piece bonus Heavy Graviton Beam. If you swap the MACO engine for the Borg engine and then swap them back again, the tray does not place the icon for Heavy Graviton Beam back in its original position. On Holodeck, the tray remembers the position of Heavy Graviton Beam.

    18. The commands "/showfps 1" and "/showCamPos 1" no longer work. They are broken in sector space, in system space, and on the ground.

    19. Please consider bringing back Tribble Weekend in order to test the system under heavy load.

The new Sector Space map looks great but...will there be a Neutral Zone? Its so important to the Star Trek universe I just couldn't see it as complete without one. It would bring so much more immersion into the game. As of right now there is no clear cut borders separating the different galactic powers. It would be cool if you got a notification when you entered and exited one. I'm just asking because I don't have access to the tribble servers and haven't heard talk of one. ty

Even in Star Trek the serieseseses... the Neutral zones were a bit nebulous and not clearly defined... while I think politically there were "lines drawn in space"... they were just that... in space and if you accidently strayed over the line well it was "navigation error"

But to answer your question they do to a degree (if you look at the galaxy map areas have different color underlays)... but you're not suddely going to fly past K-7 and see a big neon sign glowing in space saying "Caution entering Klingon Neutral Zone"...

Oh that and the Romulan neutral zone doesn't exist anymore other then in the minds of some Romulan Empire throw-backs.

Curious (and I've no doubt this has probably been asked before) but why the sector splits? Couldn't we have the Alpha & Beta maps as one big map? It's only really the Delta Quadrant (and later, Gamma Quadrant?) that need to be separate as we're not passing directly across one, and into the other.

The area of the Alpha Quadrant we are in is connected directly to the area of the Beta Quadrant that we're involved with, so what's the need for the split?

a few systems dont have names.

as for the return trip from the dq or s/sphere to the beta quadrant, i keep getting dumped out a number of light years away in a nearby star system near new romulus on the new map. if for example someone has an accidental misclick, it would mean they would need to travel a number of light years to get back to the iconian gate. in addition the gate interact range should be increased a little.
