You know what Nabreeki, I have to say ^this sums up my feelings on it as well. There's nothing wrong with choosing to celebrate Nimoy's life rather than somberly mourning it. To each their own. However, trying to deliberately impose your point of view on others, many of whom politely asked to be left alone really is crossing a line.

valoreah and I seldom agree on anything, but I agree 100%. Dental has crossed a major line here.

Nabreeki, if there is any decency left in the blackened mass that you call a soul, please stop spamming party balls on Vulcan and just apologize. You're winning yourself zero friends.

Has absolutely nothing to do with the TOS. It has to do with poor judgement, taste and a severe lack of maturity.

Disagree here. Now while I don't think the discoballs and whatnot are appropriate for my tastes, the more I see the hostility launched against the people using them, and their, dare I say, smirking responses... I'm liking the folks like Nabreeki more and more and the 'this is serious business' folks less and less.

Hey Dentists of the world now is the time to prove you're all not just idiotic mouthy cowardly trolls. Leonard Nimoy's funeral is tomorrow. I expect to you to be there with party horns, balloons, confetti, fire extinguishes and noise makers to show people how it's supposed to be done. You can show his idiot friends and wife how it's really supposed to be.

I'll keep an eye out for you.

So I would invite anyone who thinks the dentists are spoiling the vigil to come to Vulcan #1 now. Nabreeki is here, popping party favors, dancing on the fountain. And you know what. People are chatting, remembering Mister Nimoy, and actually quite cheerful.

So, if you don't think it's appropriate to be deliberately disruptive in real life, what makes you think it's appropriate to do it in a video game?

I was replying to another person's post. This isn't about you.

And disagreed here, too -- and siding with worffan101 on this.

There's nothing wrong with celebrating Leonard Nimoy's life and accomplishments. But the needs of the many (to borrow from our beloved character's line) outweigh the needs of the few, or the one. And there are many people hurting/coming to terms with the real-life loss of this man.

I want to celebrate Nimoy's life, but not by arriving at a gathering and commandeering it to do what I want to do. There is etiquette where such sensitive matters are concerned; I wouldn't show up at an actual funeral or wake, blowing air horns or throwing goodies out there "in celebration" of the passing. The "many" are mourning the loss of an amazingly gifted individual; disrupting such an event with personal reasons is narcissistic and unwelcomed, in my opinion.

I'm reminded of Randy Pausch's passing. (Life-long Trekkie/Trekker Pausch, btw, had a speaking cameo role in Star Trek (2009) on the Kelvin's bridge.) The Internet was humming with condolences, tributes and support amongst those who were touched by the man's "last lecture", his writings, and his battle with cancer. It was personal to many grieving people, whether knowing him from his works, or sharing a common bond of support over his loss as they learned more about him. STO players are doing similar remembrances of Nimoy on Vulcan.

Unlike Pausch's passing, our remembrance of Nimoy is taking place in a virtual, social environment. I've participated on Vulcan since Friday, taking time to stop in-game to wish LLAP to others, to emote /em prosper and share some memories. I draw the line at being disruptive -- as should others.

In defense of Starfleet Dental, I admittedly enjoy the energy they bring to a locale like Drozana Station. I understand the desire to celebrate Nimoy, not with sorrow and sadness, but joy and happiness.

But in a respectful manner. Using disco balls and party poppers at a gathering of mourners ISN'T it.

I just killed a load of people with a Plasma Flamethrower in STO. I don't think THAT's appropriate in real life.

There are plenty of people on the forums who are unbothered by it. Had a brief talk with Taco last night who agreed that a party celebrating life was just fine. I'm really not concerned about it at all.

Just because a Dev gave the green light for your disco memorial does not mean they would condone the people in question here jumping instances, intentionally disrupting the activities of others...

Though, I know the chances of Taco actually sharing his views on this matter are all but improbable, I'd be very curious to hear what Taco has to say in relation to people jumping from instance to instance, with the intent of disrupting others... And then trying to twist his approval of your celebration, as justification for doing so...

I highly doubt he would have agreed to people doing this, so please don't try and hide behind the naive excuse 'But Taco said it was ok!'...

Precisely, the true underlying issue here is not a disco memorial, but that certain individuals have used it as an opportunity to grief others...

All I can say is... my fleet leader summoned those of us who were online, we intentionally went to a nearly empty instance, and he was in the middle of a heartfelt speech when a Dental member zoned in and dropped multiple disco balls, ran right amongst our group (which was over half the current population of the instance) repeatedly setting off one of those party horns, etcetera.

It was entirely disruptive and disrespectful of OUR desired method of paying our respects.

And yes, I have a party nullifier. It keeps my character from dancing, but it does not block the other effects.

I personally hope that when the devs do install a permanent memorial, that they also block the use of the disco balls in the area of it.

If you guys would keep to one (or more) specific instances, and not invade other instances where others are observing this circumstance differently... I would not have even come to this forum thread at all. Your behavior today has earned you my disrespect.

And this is what most of them did. What is happening is that the trolls are taking the example of those legitimately "celebrating life" and making false claims that that is what they're doing in an attempt to skirt the ToS.

You people arguing over disco balls and funeral wakes are disrespecting Nimoy's memory by your petty bickering actions.

Just because different cultures have different funeral traditions doesn't entitle anyone to get mad about it.

The issue is not that different cultures have different memorial, or funerary rights... The offense that people have taken is that certain individuals went out of their way to disrupt the memorial activities of others, knowingly trying to disrupt their activities, in displays of outright griefing...

This is why people are getting upset, as this behaviour goes beyond basic trolling, and the memorials are not simple RP, the griefers are beyond disrespectful...

His point is Crytpic isn't going to cave to the people pounding fists going on about people celebrating being kicked from the game... and comparing us to funeral protesters and the like.

Cryptic tends to be reasonable about such things is the point.

If you don't agree that is your prerogative. Why you feel any of us should care what you or anyone else feels is right or wrong is interesting.
