I got to test on Tribble a bit, and I noticed a few things.
-the travel seems much slower than on holo deck. I'm not sure if travel rates are slower or systems are further apart, but it dragged on to get from place to place.
-it's hard to tell where things are because zooming out does not seem to go far enough
-Sol system only has eight planetary orbits. Pluto is sad.
DSEs now appear randomly in the quadrant, and reward 90 dil, 3 mats and about 1200 skill points. This is for the one I got to play because you have to be fast to get in. No more accolade progression. Time for the rush to get those before they're gone forever.
Star Trek: Star Charts is an awesome book, (I know because I own it), but later shows did contradict it, so I hope they don't take it as "too" canon. Klach D'Kel Brakt for example is labeled as a Klingon planet near Romulan Space. However, Erik Soong in Season 4 of Star Trek: Enterprise said that Klach D'Kel Brakt was the Klingon name for the Briar Patch.
I just finished testing and honestly - I don't want to play holodeck any more.
Is there a date for season 10 going live?
Haha, I know how you feel. After flying all around the Alpha quadrant with no loading screen, going onto Holodeck tomorrow is going to be like someone just replaced my fibre broadband with dial-up.
Join date is wrong, I've actually been around since STO Beta.

I like this. Only suggestion i would like to see implemented, is instead of turning off the motion of the planets orbits completely, is slow them down to a crawl.
So, say you been sitting in one spot for an hour talking to people, the planets would have moved say half an inch or something. That would be nice
Turning off their motion unlocked some other benefits. We cannot have a moving door/clicky/interact. So by turning off their motion, we can put the door on the planet itself, instead of the system. That may not have seemed like a big deal with the old System Art, but with Systems being as huge as they are now, it felt really stupid to fly to the center of the system/star to go to the planet that's like, WAY over there
> So without that motion, we can put that interact directly on the planet.
Well, closer to Klingon space would be my suggestion, since it was supposed to be at the border of the Federation and the Gorn Hegemony and according to lore the Gorn and Klingons were threatening to invade Cestus III in 2405.
And then the Borg invasion, they supposedly cut through the Gamma Orionis sector block to Ker'rat and Otha in the Eta Eridani block, right? Except now there's a big chunk of Romulan and Fed space between those sector blocks.
And in real astronomy, the constellation Orion sits between Eridanus and Canis Major, so it would make sense to have the whole Gamma Orionis sector block (including Cestus) in between (and maybe further relative "south") the Eta Eridani and Pi Canis sector blocks.
I understand that you guys had to make compromises to get it all to work and if it's a "no can do" situation I can accept that. I do appreciate the effort that you guys put into this. I just really wish "my world" had ended up in the right neighborhood of the galaxy.
Remember that 'Gamma Orionis' and all sector blocks, basically don't exist anymore. What was moved to the upper right of the BQ were the systems of the former GO block. Those systems are largely invented by us, with a couple of notable exceptions (Cestus, Mutara). It's possible we could move those systems to the southern edge of Klingon Space, but that will have to be discussed. We need to look at what's on those systems, and if it makes sense to move that content (not just the systems) there.
Wait... you put the Sol system in the Beta quadrant??? Um... yeah, I know it technically is in both, but if you have to opt for one or the other wouldn't the Alpha Quadrant be the logical choice, since that's the location that has always been referenced throughout Star Trek history?
Pssst. . . it's been in the Beta Quadrant . . . this WHOLE time. . .
EDIT: Also is it just me or does the inclusion of the Delta Quadrant gif come off more as sarcastic than informative? Literally just the block walls vanish and TA-DAA. I lol'd.
HA HA HA! I ALMOST put in "tada!" text on that gif! :P
Not meant as sarcastic, I just felt like I was leaving it out if I didn't do it. . .
Serious suggestion: Systems are graphics, and doors are pointers; is there a reason you couldn't have what is (under the hood) two Sol graphics, one right on the appropriate edge each of each map, and a door pointer linked on each side? This would mean that whichever direction you came from, it would look "natural" (there would never be a viewpoint where you could see both, as each map only has one), and wouldn't require either direction to zone twice.
We could. However, if we put Sol directly on the line (as it should be), only half of the system could be flown through in either quadrant. Which would be weird. Which means Earth would have to be pointed into each quadrant, which means they wouldn't match, which would be weird.
In the end it was better imo to leave it as it has been for the last 5 years.
Considering the layout of the quadrants as they are now it was the logical place to put it 5+ years ago. But I would have expected that in the overhaul it would be moved to where it's actually supposed to be.
Even Memory Alpha lists Sol is being in the Alpha Quadrant, not Beta.
All of the early Fed content is in the Vulcan/Orion/Risa sector. So if we put Earth in the AQ, the first thing you do every time you leave Earth (as a new player) is have to go through another loading screen to get to your missions?
Taco, why do Bajor and Trill seem to be in Cardassian territory even though they are federation worlds? Shouldn't the blue background extend out to at least Bajor?

as far as i'm aware, there is no official content involving cestus or the mutara nebula whatsoever, so they could be safely moved if need be

I do really like that you've done that. When I visited the Bajoran system it was quite nice having to actually fly from DS9 to Bajor instead of just sitting right on top of both of them.

This change sounds amazing! I never thought this would happen, but have secretly always hoped it would! I cannot wait to give it a shot! Makes me almost want to figure out how to get on tribble.
However since we are going to have much larger areas of space to cover than before would it be possible to take this opportunity to tie warp speed above warp 10 to warp cores instead of impulse engines?

I've updated the STO Wiki Alphabetical List of Systems page. This now reflects all of the systems in the upcoming Sector Space Revamp. It lists the system name, the old sector it is located in currently, and the new sector it is moving to. Note that since some sectors moved/changed names, a system that is in a under a new sector name may not have actually moved, and a system that remains under it's old sector name may have moved. Please refer to the sector name change images in the blog for reference.
I think the Veela system may have gotten lost. I am trying to play the mission "house on fire" on Tribble and while I can get to the Veela system, I can't enter it.
Haha, I know how you feel. After flying all around the Alpha quadrant with no loading screen, going onto Holodeck tomorrow is going to be like someone just replaced my fibre broadband with dial-up.
Agreed. I spent about an hour just zipping freely around the alpha quadrant.
One question for Tacofangs. Right now it is possible for a federation officer with a diplomacy rating of 1 or 2 (can't remember off the top of my head what my tribble officer's diplomacy is) to enter the Q'onos sector. Are the diplomatic/ maurading restrictions going to be re-implemented?
Tried the new maps this evening. A couple of thoughts:
1.) Very cool. Very Big. It embodies the whole 'space is huge' feeling.
2.) The planets - awesome. But no of-axis or elipical orbits?
3.) The stars are way too bright. Although I 'get it', I'd like to overlay a filter of some kind.
Otherwise - can't wait to have this ingame.
2) All planets rotate on their own axes, just not around their stars. Elliptical orbits are a pain in the butt. Just easier to draw everything as circular. Sorry. I'm lazy.

Oh! Oh! I LOVE this idea, rather than seemingly linking the warp speed via the person's level. Just tie it to the warp core as it would be incentive to upgrade one's warp core as one progressed.
Great Idea Expanded:
Standard Warp Core = Max Warp 4 (think pre-enterprise ships)
Warp core Mk I, II = Max Warp 5 (Star Trek: Enterprise)
Warp core Mk III,IV = Max Warp 6
Warp core Mk V,VI = Max Warp 7 (Pre-TOS Trek)
Warp core Mk VII,VIII = Max Warp 8 (TOS and Trek movies)
Warp core Mk IX = Max Warp 9 (TNG Era)
Warp Core Mk X = Max Warp 10 (TNG movies and Voyager Era)
Warp core Mk XI = Max Warp 11 (STO Era)
Warp core Mk XII = Max Warp 12
Warp core Mk XIII = Max Warp 13
Warp core Mk XIV = Max Warp 14
Quality bonus Warp core Speeds
White +0 Warp factor Green +.25 Warp Factor Blue +.50 Warp Factor Purple +.75 Warp Factor UltraViolet +.99 Warp Factor (fleet warp cores) Golden +1.5 Warp Factor
(The base for things may be like the assimilated impulse that use sub-transwarp would add (subtranswarp factor) modifier as well)
(Special Warp cores like the Solane, Bree, Kobali, etc would have a base speed of sub-transwarp factor, Transwarp Base of 15,20,25 ect based off level)
So if you had a: Plasma Integrated Warp Core Mk VII (Aux) (SSS) [green]
It would have a max warp factor of: Warp 8.25 + (driver coil skill)
An Elite Fleet Warp core Mk XII (Aux) (Bat) (E->S) (SSS) = 12.99 + (driver coil skill)
This would give more incentive to buy/upgrade to better warp cores to help you zip around the new sector space!
I must warn you, I am quite Isane! I am Grand Duchess of the Abh Empire: Beneej Letopanyu Spoor!
I love the direction the devs are going in. I've dropped some serious $$ into the game over the years, and I'm glad to see it's being used well with this overhaul!
And I agree with the previous posts about linking warp speed to warp core mk level.
2) All planets rotate on their own axes, just not around their stars. Elliptical orbits are a pain in the butt. Just easier to draw everything as circular. Sorry. I'm lazy.
Star art is not final.
No apologies required - this is still a huge improvement. And I doubt your lazy, just a professional engineer who never tells the captain how long it will really take
warp speed is already tied to core mark level, it just doesn't go beyond transwarp 10 at mk 10, and the only things that break that barrier are exactly 3 engines...which really need to have their bonuses moved to actual cores...which need to be made first in the case of the assimilated and maco sets

Not sure if Taco or Rander will respond here again but I have a question regarding the Diplomatic Immunity and Raiding Party abilities.
Obviously these abilities were added to give players the opportunity to enter enemy held space. Which prior to its introduction was strictly off limits to non-aligned players. Since PvP was a non-issue outside of an actual map designated for it these abilities were nothing more then something used to explain away why it was okay for you to go where you didnt belong.
With the walls coming down there doesnt seem to be any restriction from entering these areas (granted I have not stepped foot in tribble tonight to test this myself) as far as I can tell. Im wondering if these abilities will no longer have any effect or will there be some sort of mechanic to prevent you from entering an area of space that you otherwise dont have authorization to enter?
At level 60 youre at a point in time in the storyline that is experiencing a ceasefire and standoffish alliance. So not entirely a big deal if you go flying about in Fed space if youre a Klingon and vise versa. But at level 10 all the way up to Surface Tension youre at war. Going into either sides sector space would/should have some sort of consequence.
Is there plans to add NPC Guard Ships to 'patrol' these neutral zones or will this portion of the immersion be ignored and Qonos and Earth Sector Space Doors be clustered with the faction opposite of what it belongs to?
At first glance, it looked vey much like a lot of stuff had been removed in an effort to make the quadrants rectangular, but later realisation shows that a ton of new stuff has been added!
Great move!
Now, let's have Exploration maps back so that we can "explore strange new worlds" instead of visiting already known ones.

Hey there, so I read all 27 pages.
No one has asked yet but can someone who is on Tribble run the Tour the Galaxy Daily mission for me and compare the new map to the old one??
I have max level guys and after spending 15k on all of the reputations ie Omega daily, 150k?? energy every single day and other things I need to run this every single day just to break even.
Thanks,
Also a list of the planets you need to hit to complete would be helpful.

Can someone clarify? Will Deep Space Encounter accolades be broken after this, or will they work with the new system? (eg. Sirius Rookie, Regulus Defender, etc).
