Yeah - it's looks like we got also lucky bug - i managed to claim and unpack second "Polytrinic Acid Horta" on 9 of my 11 toons - It was last year (i think) giveaway - also on Promotions tab - an unique combat pet - only one per toon
This is not a real C-store item as such as this stuff can be obtained through other means. I hope we won't get a doff pack next lol but something more tangible. It's free so still appeciated!

I was really expecting it to be something like this. While most other games gives out free ships/armor nifty items per char, we get one thing that isn't that big of a deal per account. Way to go cryptic.

The giveaway item is not bound. Somehow that feels like a mistake.

If they leave it unbound, it's useful to everyone. If they make the Pack (and its contents) bound, it's only useful to crafters. With it being one per account rather than per Captain... yeah, unbound makes sense.
With each passing day I wonder if I stepped into an alternate reality. The Cubs win the world series. Donald Trump is President. Britain leaves the EU. STO gets a dedicated PvP season. Engineers are "out of control" in STO.
This does get a little better mileage than an outfit. I mostly play KDF so unless they give away ther mercenary outfit, I pretty much have everything. Feds shop at Macy's... everything under the sun to wear. KDF shops at a space parts dealer for clothes I think. :P With the R&D box, I got Argonite this time. It's one I get as much. So I appreciate this much more than a fed outfit.
Interesting that the first of the giveaways was an item that could be claimed and used by any faction... I wonder if all the giveaways will be this time... Players have been complaining that so many of the past offerings were specific to one faction that they may have come up with four items that are faction-neutral...

First off, thanks for the gift. It's not exactly what I'd expected (not everyone goes in for crafting) but hey, always nice to be surprised.
Now, my second point is to everyone saying they hope for t5 ships; if we get that, it'll probably be sans console, or if it does include the console, the ship we'll get will be one of the ones with variants I.e. Vesta, as tetechnically, they won't lose out; most people buy them as the bundle as they want all the consoles, so people will still buy the other two for the same price as the bundle. In that scenario, I just hope the player can pick which specialisation.
Shame really. That Galaxy retrofit with saucer sep would be a nice addition to my dreadnought... Hehe

However, I would assume the patch for the anniversary will start at 7am PDT (10am EDT), so that would mean that unless you release the last item super early in the morning or allow players to collect the last giveaway item after the anniversary patch, then I dont foresee anyone getting it...

Well, last year's (year 4) giveaway were a combat horta (non-faction specific, day 1), BoP/Defiant bridge packs (day 2), Gladius/SuQub ships (day 3) and ToS era uniforms (day 4). Aside from the uniforms, every faction got something 3 out of 4 days they could use. It's just the Roms didn't get something unique for their faction, but for which ever side the Rom character is allied with, it could use the item that faction got.
Not sure how a single non-faction item is much different from multiple faction items (on the same day)... aside from uniqueness in the case of Roms.
And it's only 1 out of the four days that it was something that one faction got but other factions didn't get even a variant of... the ToS uniforms on day 4.
According to my account creation date, I started playing late Feb 2013, so I JUST missed the year 3 event and can't say much about it. Dunno what, if anything was given away then... google isn't turning up much.

Why would it be a problem? Last year's giveaway overlapped the first day of the anniversary too. Not sure about "everyone," but I got all the items without a hitch.

You look at it wrong- the dates and hours calculate to 3x 24 hours - so it's 3 giveaways .
Last year 4th item (the uniforms - i think) was special, because of technical problems or something, they prolonged it.
I'm hoping that this year they offer the Eisilum Crystal Horta combat pet as an account-wide unlock. Hortas hunting Hirogen = hilarious!
