Ionic Turbulence, diasable and PvP implications

as for me, i use it on almost every intel build for the res-debuff, but really would smile if they'd remove or nerf the disable part on it.

so.... what u guys think about?

thx thissler :)!
"Ionic Turbulence:
- Flies toward target Foe's current location
- The "Out Of Control" effect is an unresistable Hold/Repel. It cannot be cleansed or removed while in effect, and resistances will not reduce its duration. The true counter to this, is to navigate out of the hazard cloud."

my personal assumption, mainly grown with influx from illcadia, thissler and ddis:
we're facing a bad done copy/paste job based on the early version of the subspace integration circuit console (aka "black poo"). as i read the text above ionic turbulence SHOULD NOT:
- chase one down, it should travel to where the target is in the moment of power-activation
- disable any abilities at all, but should shake the target upside down while resists to hold and repel don't counter/reduce the duration of the shake effect
...but as said: personal assumption ;)...

others assumptions:

(- if it's bugged and intended to only work as a movement debuff, may in combo with a res-debuff: PLZ FIX IT ASAP!!!...)

suggestions so far if its wai in its current state (feel free to point me on certain ones i overread):

- completely remove the disable part (may in combo with a widening of the sphere and more res-debuff)

- change ionic so it not chases one down but travels to where one is while activated

- disabling only one career type of ability, or only one boff

- disable only console clickies, cloak, set bonuses and captain powers, while leaving boff abilities available

- remove the station power disable and just disables weapons fireing, and buff slightly the hull debuff
(note: almost the same as the subspace integration circuit console, aka "black poo" after fix/nerf)

- shorten it down (note: the disable) to, let's say 3-5 secs max.

- a combo of several parts of the suggestions

- a random system off for 5-10 secs instead of greyed out powerbar/or viral matrix way (all subs randomly down within a certain time, never more than one)

- a immunity (to disable) for 15/30 secs after hit by the first

- implement any change as a stealth-nerf/altering to keep possible rage little

- APO/A2D and of course Inertial Dampeners Skill should provide immunity/resistance to all the new disable Stuff (Intel or otherwise like Viral Torpedo).

It's the worst thing I've ever seen in PvP :(

    The disable is infuriating.

Ionic Turbulance made me drop my Vesta T5-U FBP'er for something that can slot Intel Team.
Was really sad about it, but if you have no chance to do ANYTHING before being blown to bits. Then you gotta do what you gotta do.

Now im forced to fly my ugly pizza cutter Scryer, and I hate it. I slotted Ionic Turbulance 2, and now stay cloaked, until some sad sap comes along.

What a snore fest zzzzzzzzzz, and I used to LOVE pvp.

Last night at 7-930pm Atlantic time, there were 3 people waiting in the PvP queues...3 !!!!
(was never super busy - but 3 is pathetic, you cant even get a game going !!!)

And the main reason for this awful decline ----> Ionic Turbulance !

The dirty part is that it chases you down and lands right on you. It should just move to the location you were at when it was launched, like some other abilities do. This would remove most of the complaints I think.

O.o Oh. Just slot Intel Team! Hadn't thought of that! ;)

Why in the hell do this power even exists? Who would even add this to any pvp game? That one of the dumbest most stupid things I ever seen. Rapid disable and shakes your ship all crazy, over and over. Just to annoy good players. It's the only reason it was added.

I don't know who did that power, but I truly want to vaporize them with a

no place for intel team :(... i tend to agree. at least it would make it less lethal. but i also could live totally without the disable part. just widen the sphere a bit and may increase the debuff. should still be pretty useful by then ;).
indeed i don't see the need for disabling and counter-sh** in pvp at all (at least not in that dimension). we should shoot each other, not get us time for gettin some tea inbetween the pew-part lol.

with its hull debuff its to make it easier to kill groups of elite difficulty npcs when you bring CSV and GW into korvez or the like, instead of just scimitar and recluse teams. the disable also stops npcs shooting, the fact that they cant use abilities for a bit is hardly noticeable to anyone.

of course it ruins pvp, not being able to use skills for any period of time is a death sentence due to base line and buffed being an order of magnitude different on player ships, and at least 80% of effective hitpoints are heals. no thought went into it beyond how its part of what makes tier 6 ships better at getting through elite difficulty then your old tier 5. the same thing can be said about the neutronic torp, SS, EMPP, OSS, and everything else launched with DR.

they have finally stopped caring what so ever about how things fit together in pvp, we literally don't exist to them anymore, id like to think this is why hawk quit. the DPS autists now have the system dev's attention, and new skills are created, the content is balanced, and the hitpoints multiplied to give them a challenge, wile the other 90% of casual players and what PVPer were left are driven away, because of the literally insane specialization and upgrade grind, and abysmal pve gameplay.

Question from someone who does not have an intel ship:

Does the disable work on NPCs or do the Borg etc. get an immunity like they have against things like SS? In other words: does this ability have any positive effects on PVE?

big npcs seem to have partial immunity to the disable, some don't shake any more, its more the movement impairment and the new source of hull res debuff you can stack that maters

now that i think about, indeed i never noticed a disable on any npc the last days. though not checked it consciously besides that cube i just annoyed.

btw: if a mod reads this, feel free to remove that "a" too much in "diasable" from title ;):D...

edit: checked with kerrat probes. they're affected by the disable.

STO has definitely begun catering itself to a silly PvE contingent. In the end the fact is just that STO should never have been an MMO, it's a disharmonious marriage between a superb PvP-oriented game engine and a PvE bells and whistles theme park ride. When we get right down to it that's always been STO's problem at the core.

This is exacerbated by a team who've long stopped caring in the slightest about PvP and a benefactor pressuring Cryptic into ballooning STO's new-found Korean MMO/grindfest elements. For all else you might say about Cryptic, without PWE they were once the developers whose game was the most generous and egalitarian on the market, by far. STO was popular for a lot of us because you really could compete with minimal gear, an open mind, teamwork and skill. The sweet spot was almost too good to be true by MMO standards.

Now the game is ruled by the rich and caters to the rich (or the "whales"). That egalitarian spirit has long since gone. The irony is that the notion of a tiny minority trying to dictate the direction the game should go in is a charge the carebears have levelled at PvP for years. I suppose a lack of self-awareness isn't surprising from people who live in a hugbox tailored to their "hardcore PvE" fantasies.

Reminds me of when Grav Well was OP and everyone was running around with Intrepids.

It will be nerfed, just give it time. That or a new set of special BO's/T6 ships that will have the counters for the intel skills.

don't hold your breath. any new skills will be more of the same DPS and control multipliers, counters are a silly pvp thing that don't mater. their idea of balance and countering is you getting a tier 6 ship and hitting them with the TRIBBLE before you get hit with it, the LAST thing they will EVER do, is make it easier for you to get away with just a tier 5 ship.

after the matches today i gotta say that ionic really caters small ships a lot more than cruisers. even more if there are multiple copies on the other team. ain't too much fun when hitting by one ionic after the other in a cruiser lol ... on scorts one barely even notice it due to speed...

make it go away cryptic, what about one of the famous stealth nerfs lol? no one in pve will even realize!

Welcome to the new Star Trek Online expansion...

Star Trek Online - Profits Rising...

I almost feel like this whole Intel push has been Cryptic and Perfect World's last big reach into wallets. I mean you CAN'T get a Ship Trait without paying. So it really feels like they knew STO would die from this. You can't put so much poisin into a game and expect it to live.

Still not worth my time. I just feel dirty playing with T6, cuz in the Romulan T6 ship... I either got 100% better at vaping in the time span of a few days, or I have one hell of an advantage....

Let us relish in the fact that having that ship and spamming out an Ionic Turbulence is a fantastic way to start a vape... You really cant mess up against 90% of people. Where as before some cruisers could atleast pop FBP or RSP... now they cant do that. So it is still Pay to Win. Either you buy the T6 ship or your dont Intel.

Simple mate. You can hate on pve players all day long giving it your big wafflefest about how devoid of skill it is. You actually sound like a bit of a prick talking about 'carebears' or 'hugbox'. Christ, you think you are a real badass don't you? You pvp demon you! Lol, who the **** do you think you are? Most people don't like pvp because its ****, simple as that. But because you think everyone should like your weird little Esport, you think they are the ones with issues.

    The fact is this:

No one cares about pvp or how skilled or unskilled you personally feel it is, or how much you big yourself up over what is essentially a 5 man arena.

Most people playing STO just seem to just like blowing **** up in star trek ships. And thats cool, there is nothing wrong with that. The only people who can't handle this fact are the tiny sliver of minority pvp players. People just like the trek theme in a video game MMO. They like playing with all the parts on their star trek ship. They like playing with their star trek boffs and doffs. However not many people want to play pvp against nerd raging elitist pricks, whether it happens to be in star trek ships or not. Its just not fun. The only time it seems to be fun is when the weirdos who love it, find other weirdos who love it and they all get together, TRIBBLE each other off and tell each other how awesome they are.

Thats why the queues are dead. Blame Cryptic all you like but its not only their problem. Why do you think the queues are left for dead? Because there is no point flogging a dead horse. Half the TRIBBLE that makes pvp fail is the people that play it. Fact. Whenever i have pvped over the years, 80% of the people i had any dealings with were complete dickheads, who cant handle losing yet love to talk ****. I hear similar views from many other players. So take some responsibility. I mean lets face it, look at the sheer douchebaggery going on in this thread, its ****ing cringing to read some of it. You don't see threads by pve players like this about pvp players. But yeah, blame cryptic. Its their fault the majority of pvpers are elitist arseholes.

On top of that, a lot of the people you hear talking about pvp don't want to drop any money on the game. So why should they develop an aspect of the game, overrun with trash talking, arrogant, tightfisted, whinging twats, who form a tiny minority of the game's playerbase? They shouldn't. I really wish they actually would just completely stop caring in the slightest about pvp so you might get the message.

Then maybe i wont stumble across any more threads like this, dripping in arrogance, reminding me why pvp in STO is so terrible. I wouldnt care but there isn't even anything to be arrogant about. Pvp in STO is so simplistic and underdeveloped its beyond a joke. The real joke though is the people that play it and think the bare bones TRIBBLE it consists of somehow makes them better than people who don't play it simply because they can call targets and a few other things. Get real.

My friend if you find the game less then, of course it is 100% the fault of the developer not the people playing the game. I swear its like some of this games players have stockholm syndrome. No its not your fault... no the other people fighting for you are not the bad guys. lol This would be like blaming drivers for being annoyed when there GMs have to be recalled 10x a year and you find out major saftey issues where ignored cause they cost to much to fix. Of course that's the users fault not the manufacturer right ? haha

Cryptic is 100% at blame for the state of the game. I am also not just talking about PvP. Look around, its not just the pvp ques that have died is it ?

The game is in serious trouble cause for 3+ years yes your right the majority of the vocal PvP community has been warning that all the greed was going to spiral out of control and kill the game. Sure sometimes perhaps we have went overboard here and there. The main issue is though people that have defended Cryptic and kept throwing $ at them.

Well enjoy what all that defense has wrought us. We now have a game where upgrading gear on one toon will take you 5-6 months of grinding... or a $200 cash injection. That same toon won't hit cap anymore unless you pour 150-200 hours of game time, beating on the same NPCs over and over.

You know on second thought pretend I didn't say anything... cause I could care less about arguing anything to do with STO anymore. Sure I can't help read and I guess I responded... duh stupid me. Play TOR or something even EA is less greedy. Better yet come play EvE or ED when it launches. Cryptic won't ever right the game... and all the stuff we been complaining about in the PvP community for a long time is finally starting to seep into the PvE end of the pool. You have likely noticed the PvP end of the forums is mostly quite now... most of us have moved on. The fire that used to be our subsection has now spread to the general section go check it out. lmao

I'll be completely honest and admit I only skimmed your nerdrage.txt, but to reply to the gist of what you're saying in the last few paragraphs PvP players even those with just a casual interest have never had any real influence on the game and so spazzing out so passionately about them is pointless (although you clearly have some personal issues to air out in which case knock yourself out).

In fact why you chose my post of all things as a platform to soapbox from is beyond me since I said in the first place that PvPers were a powerless minority and you went on to agree only to run your mouth off anyway. Logic isn't a carebear's strong suit either it seems, quite the epic tantrums though so I can certainly see how the emotionally antsy type has their cash so easily parted from their wallets.

its quite entertaining to hear about what a bunch of douchebags we are when you come here and rant like that, must take one to know one. why don't you start a thread about pvp anywhere but in this section, and see what kind of reply's you get. ive never seen more hateful and belligerent comments in a game forum, than the garbage that gets moved here from other sections. probably a waste of effort, you already are a perfect example of what you will find if you do. apparently you haven't had a chance to rag on pvpers for so long you had to barge into our containment board and throw down to get your kicks.

pvpers don't drop money on the game? nope, nothing will ever be funnier then saying that and meaning it. the 1 part of the game were you HAVE to spend the big bucks if you want to compete, HAVE to grind the longest and the hardest. there's no way any serious pvper isn't financially worth more to cryptic then dozens of carbears F2Pers. and so what if they buff or nerf something for us, if it didn't show up in patch notes, 95% of you are far to ignorant of the game mechanics to even notice. and if all you want to do is blow up ships causally, why does this get a rise out of you in the first place?

Uh... Okay. The Industrial Revolution to me is just like a story I know called "The Puppy Who Lost His Way." The world was changing, and the puppy was getting... bigger.

So, you see, the puppy was like industry. In that, they were both lost in the woods. And nobody, especially the little boy - "society" - knew where to find 'em. Except that the puppy was a dog. But the industry, my friends, that was a revolution.
