Then why buy the 3 pack if you're only ever going to use one of them? :P
Consoles and ship pieces. I could either have one c-store DSD that's as ugly as hell (in the original ship's spec) or for 2500 more zen 3x the customization options (to fix the asethetic problems) and with more equipment to chose from to boot.
On multiple toons I've dabbled with using different choices form a 3 ship pack but almost invariably I settle on one that best lines up with my view of what works best (in itself.) However you can still get a lot of use on the other bits and bobs the bundle contains, enough most often to still justify the price.

Looking for something new to play? I've started building Foundry missions again in visual novel form!
Upgrade tokens should have the same cost regardless. (Also, upgrading the fleet version of a ship will upgrade the regular version (where applicable) for free.)
it's 500 to 1000 zen, don't know yet. when you upgrade a ship it's upgrade account wide. so if you upgrade a fleet defiant on character a it's upgraded on character b too if he has a fleet defiant.
the tokens will also be like fleet modules and can be sold/bought on the exchange.
Had to let these two posts marinate in the noodle for a spell.
A token purchased to upgrade a fleet Kamarag on one toon would also upgrade a non-fleet T5 Kamarag on a different toon ?

Account-wide has been known since the Blog. The standard/Fleet information was in the Tribble Patch Notes from the 3rd.
Upgrading a ship which has a fleet version will upgrade the fleet version for free.
Also, upgrading a fleet ship will upgrade its standard version for free.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.
Can you demonstrate this claim? Or are you just blindly assuming it based on what you want reality to be like?
It's an expression commonly attributed to J. P. Morgan.
The well-known quote, "If you have to ask the price, you can't afford it" is commonly attributed to Morgan in response to a question about the cost of maintaining a yacht, although the accuracy of the story is unconfirmed.
...talking to players is like being a mall Santa. Everyone immediately wants to tell you all of the things they want, and you are absolutely powerless to deliver 99% of them.
Can you demonstrate this claim? Or are you just blindly assuming it based on what you want reality to be like?
It's pretty much accepted that 'disgustingly rich people' don't care what something costs- if they want it they buy it. Normal people generally ask how much that Bently continental in the showroom is, and wonder if a second or third mortgage will cover it.

In that example, the answer is almost certainly "no."
When you buy a T5U upgrade on one character, that makes it free for other characters with that ship- both its fleet and non-fleet versions- but that free upgrade isn't automatically applied. It has to be claimed by the other character, as if you were buying it for zero cost.
And if the non-fleet Ambassador and Kamarag aren't upgradeable, the "Upgrade" button won't be available to apply that zero-cost upgrade at all.

Thats what I was getting at- ONLY the fleet versions of those two are upgradable, so the statement about the upgrade applying to a non-fleet version is not true in these two cases.

If you own a C-Store Defiant and a Fleet Defiant one Upgrade Token upgrades them both for every character on your account. Not every ship which has a Fleet version is a free T5 ship. There are many C-Store ships that also have Fleet versions.

on the Vesta and Charal I fly on two separate toons I use all the consoles.

I was being jocular. Some people actually do switch between ships.
I didn't know that

It's pretty much accepted that 'disgustingly rich people' don't care what something costs- if they want it they buy it.
Just because it's accepted doesn't make it true. That's a stereotype, and applying it to all disgustingly rich people is ignorant of each individual's desires.
Besides, not everyone who can potentially afford ship upgrade tokens have to be "disgustingly rich".
I asked this very question in the live stream today. I'm sorry to say I got the same generic answer that was posted a while back in the dev blogs. Basically 500 - 1000 zen. Which I know is pretty vague. One can only hope they tell us before Tuesday, but I'm guessing they'll keep us hanging until DR officially goes luve .
Is the (free) upgrade an upgrade-in-place or should I strip all the gear off the ship (and all the other Risian ships) before using it?
If tokens applied to the packs you had purchased I might have considered them, but spending $15-30 per pack or breaking up the packs as I don't have enough captains using the variants to warrant a token means I won't be upgrading anything that isn't free.
This is my Risian Corvette. There are many like it, but this one is mine.
Actually, the answer today was more like 500-1000 zen because it will vary depending upon the ship. So some will be 500, otehrs will be 1000, and some will probably fall in between. That is how Smirk described it, so can we finally consider this done?

I have to say if this was true there would be multiple threads talking about it , and as I am not seeing any I have to say im not to sure this is correct . Can anyone else confirm this?

Perhaps a different amount for ships that do or don't have fleet versions? (Or ones where the non-fleet version isn't an upgradable ship....)
I guess they could do it like fleet modules.... all the upgrade tokens are 500zen, but some ships take 2 tokens to upgrade. /shrug Guess we'll see on Tuesday.
FFS 1000 zen is what 10 bucks??? stop being so damn cheap ...suck it up and just buy the tokens when you can ...i mean if then charged you 9.99 fir the expansion you would still ....nm ....suck it up and open that wallet

And if you have at least a dozen or more ships to upgrade???
And that's just the ones I think will be useful in the FT6 environment.
A new game usually costs $60 let alone an expansion....just sayin.
Cryptic is spoiled with fans willing to pay whatever arbitrary figure the marketing team slaps onto an item.
Unfortunately relatively normal for star trek, i mean .. look at the DVD and Blu Rays, totally overcharged for a nearly thirty year old series but people buy it nonetheless.
Beta, LTA, CE, Multiple preorder Versions, all Addon Packs except AoY, nearly all KDF/Rom and ~50% of all Fedships, over 25 LockboxShips, Endurer of Atari's "Year of Hell", but...
And you are right of course, this is where developer apologist ruin the quality of the game by accepting everything no questions asked regardless of cost - both litterly and figuratively.
So I always laugh when they claim the moral high ground and holy protector of the game when we both know this is about addicts who can't control themselves.
"I only shot up that dope to help society get it off the street!!!!"
It is true that this will limit the number of ships in the short term.
I am lucky in that I need only pay for 1 upgrade on 4 characters.
My guess is that eventually people will buy T6 ships or slowly upgrade a few more of their T5. But for now I bet most will go with just 1 ship per character.
Captain Jean-Luc Picard: "We think we've come so far. Torture of heretics, burning of witches, it's all ancient history. Then - before you can blink an eye - suddenly it threatens to start all over again."
"With the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censured, the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied, chains us all irrevocably."
IMO, a ship upgrade cost should be no more than the half of the initial cost when you bought it as a T5. A 20 Zen ship to upgrade for 10 Zen, a 25 Zen ship to T5U for 125 Zen, and so on.
What would make this a moneysink biznatch will be that I think upgrades will have to be used per individual ship (yes, I know that all toons will be able to use the same type of ship throughout the account). Anyone who bought a Galaxy or DSD 3-pack is gonna be p*ssed cuz they'll now have to T5U all 3 ships individually.
They said on the livestream that it will vary by ship. While they didn't announce a price, CaptainSmirk did give a semi-sarcastic answer to this.
My guess is that instead the goal is to get every ship price up to $30.
So 2500+ ZEN ships will cost 500 ZEN to upgrade. 2000 ZEN ships will cost 1000 ZEN.
If they ever did make free ships upgrade capable, it would probably be 3k ZEN.
That's actually some real nice thinking there - it'd certainly explain why they said 50-100.
Why was it lockbox ships are upgraded for free again I forget
TO keep the value of the lockbox grand prize. they are suppose to be set apart from the normal ships
if they lose value compared to the other ships, noone will bother gambling for them and noone would bother spending crazy EC prices for them on the Exchange.
