It's probally an attempt to actually get people to log into the game again lol.
I pretty much stopped doffing after they screwed it up where it takes about 5 mins per character for doff assignments to complete and then stopped doing daily crafting stuff after news of X2 lol.
This event really isn't worth me taking the time to login tho lol.
Having it early won't soften the blow much, it's still going to be one huge dil sink. They aren't giving any free dil so the worst part still stands.
But with the upcoming Specialization, if you get all the abilities, any further Specialization points are automatically converted to Dil Ore - free by all means via technical level-up, after a time
And besides, the higher the tech upgrade, the less Dil you would have to pay. Higher quality and higher mark items will still be fairly expensive, of course, as is the idea

Of course, filling all those specialization points will take some time, as at start? You need 60 to hit the point where all future points earned are just dil.
will the crafting system be the only way that we are to upgrade our gear? or will there be another way cuz i havent invested in the other R&D school i wanted yet...
Everything from R&D is completely tradable, so you can get non-event upgrade modules from those that have already invested in R&D.

Noticed that, did you? Still, free stuff is free... I'm sure I'll use them eventually anyway if I decide the Upgrade system and Captain Specialization are worth the grind. My poor alts. :P
It's a pain in the aft, but now I have to figure which character will actually be my main...
With each passing day I wonder if I stepped into an alternate reality. The Cubs win the world series. Donald Trump is President. Britain leaves the EU. STO gets a dedicated PvP season. Engineers are "out of control" in STO.

Well yes, it will take time; lvls 50 to 60 will fill the first 10 Specialization, but the Skill Point bar will still fill up after lvl 60 - giving us a Specialization Point every time we fill it, even as we stay lvl 60 the entire time.
Then, after filling up all Specialization abilities in the trees, any further ones are converted to Dil Ore - even after new trees are added, and those are filled up too

Just wondering.. if i upgrade the breen space set to mk xii or xiii/xiv, will i be able to claim the xi version again from the mission rewards?
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

The one flaw in your argument is the amount of dilithium granted. There is no chance in gre'thor that it will be appreciable amount to make people dance and sing: 1K+. It will probably be the lower amounts 240 or 480.
My question is since they are allowing us to Upgrade items to MK XIII, will they include the feature the will allow use to use item sets powers no matter the MK of the gear? It seems kinda pointless to upgrade anything from sets untill that is in.

It's still a nice freebie, regardless of the amount given.

Meh from what I've observed on tribble I'd say hold off on upgrading anything til X2 hits... especially items that are already UR since you'll miss an opportunity for a quality boost to epic. Also it doesn't help that a lot of the items I want to upgrade still can't be upgraded yet.. nausicaan swords, romulan hypertorpedo, etc.
Also as generous as the freebies are they'll barely be enough to upgrade one item, this system will require hundreds of the kits and not to mention mountains of dilithium that I still feel will turn off a lot of casual players
Naturally, upgrading your best endgame gear will be most effective if you use the best Tech Upgrades, so keep working on your R&D schools. Level 5 in an R&D school will allow you to craft Basic Tech Upgrades, level 10 will open access to Improved Tech Upgrades, and level 15 grants the ability to craft Superior Tech Upgrades. Focus on the school associated with the gear that you want to upgrade first if you really want to improve your ships shields, work on your Shields R&D skill.
level 0 for 5 of my 6 toons; this will be funny.

I no longer do any Bug Hunting work for Cryptic. I may resume if a serious attempt to fix the game is made.
Heh, thats pretty cool how the blog shows a Breen set item thats been upgraded- and no longer part of the set.
I can see hundreds of thousands of dilith poured into this just to upgrade a complete set. Smells like an epic dilithium syphon but wth- gimme free stuff anyway.

^^ This. So much this.
They need to drastically reduce the amount of pay2win that is intertwined with this upgrade grind system.
how random is it going to be to acquire the needed components to construct this stuff ,
the whole crafting system reminds me of the old stf drop system , cuz ive been playing content all over the board and there are alot of components i havent yet seen to build any of the components to do any actual construction of any gear in the R&D system .
Feels like we are back to the old STF way of who ever is lucky to get x drop to get x gear rather than equal chance to get gear yourself .
i would love to be a crafter but not lucky enough to get the components needed. and the cost of these simple components is not worth the EC in the exchange in the long run .
Yes, set powers will work. Borticus explained it in this post.
Unfortunately, there's no feasible way for us to allow the set bonuses to increase with the mark of the gear that is granting that bonus, while still allowing them to work across marks/qualities.
Said another way... Set bonuses will now work even if you're wearing a Mk 12 VR piece, a Mk 13 UR piece and a Mk 14 Epic piece -- you'll still get the 3 piece bonus from a set comprised of those pieces with disparate qualities and mark levels.
But the same tech that allows that to happen, prevents us from allowing those set bonuses to scale.
That said, I believe that some may scale with the player's level, as they advance from 50-60. I'm not in a position to verify or refute that at the moment, though (not currently in the office).
Ahhhh, so whats the verdict on level scaling ? What sets/pieces are level capped and which aren't, any news ?
Be careful with what you upgrade. I remember one or two weeks back upgrading a mk XII TR-116 rifle on Tribble downgraded it to mk X. Not sure if this bug has been corrected yet.

yes you can but your still limited to max equip of 1 per ship.
you can claim more than 1 set right now, just need to equip them on different ships.
Might as well come out of the gate blazing.
Gimme your dilithium and open yer wallets.

Looking forward to tinkering with this.
I knew that. I'm wondering if they are turning it on on Holodeck Thursday or forget about it.
