Sorry, but this is insane. I have never seen such a naked attempt to bleed money from a game community, and with added Tedium thrown in free. I actually feel sorry for all those poor Star trek 'devotees', who be converting their Credit Cards to Dilithium.
Ever thought of , you know, making a better game, with more content, and attracting more players, instead of being so content to bleed a minuscule core of Star Trek die-hards? (I am not one of these poor benighted souls, but c'mon, give them a break.)

Hiring Trek alumni to do voice overs has pretty much bankrupted Cryptic, even if they deny it. Gotta make up that lost revenue somehow!

Has anyone else tried to upgrade a Field Generator science console. This seems to be the only think I can't upgrade that should. Or is it on a banned list?

Well, the word starts with a b, so far you're right. It's bugged ! :D

Cryptic also has given away multiple Z-store items two summers in a row and for a fair amount of the events over the past few years have given away free starships (Amabassador R, Kamarang R, Dyson Science, base Odyssey and Bortas, Breen Cruiser and Raider). So saying they're incapable of being generous is also false.

One might think they're financially bipolar.

They NEED to give away A LOT of things to keep the player base playing the game. Because if not, the servers will be empty because people dont want to play a game full of bugs and fails everywhere and receive nothing in compensation. Thinking in a reasonable way, this is not really a gift cryptic is giving to you, it is just a way to keep players happy or at least keeping em playing the game.

But taking aside this. YES, cryptic has given a lot of things. I agree with that.

But that is not an excuse to keep raising the dilithium need when we already have the game filled with dilithium sells everywhere and we cant save for personal items, fleet projects, crafting system, reputation, and forgetting other things, now the upgrade system. I wonder what will be the next thing to add to the list.

Being a Trek Alumni usually means that you never did anything outside of Trek (obviously there are some exceptions). Why would they be that expensive ? It's not like they are Hollywood A-listers. :P

On Tribble crafting an upgrade kit gave 6000+ crafting xp and on a crit 2 extra kits. During this great and generous event it gives 150 XP and 1 extra kit. I will play nice and not say where they can put the kits they give away for "free"...

that is so disappointing i was hoping that the upgrade kits would help out the R&D grind but so much for that.

In case anyone is wondering as well: It is NOT possible to upgrade low lvl ground weapons and keep their appearance, the weapon simply gets replaced by a stock model of a higher tier.

I have to say, this would have made the upgrading and *cough* "crafting *cough* somewhat useful and neat. Once again, Cryptic: Another wasted opportunity.

    Oh wait.. what???! lol.

So, lets say, if i have hm, for example the omega phaser rifle at MKXI in one of my toons and i upgrade it to MKXII, it will lose the omega phaser riffle appearance?? lol, so whats the point, then?

Hm, this is really basic cryptic.. seriously .. sigh.

Well, probably but the thing is, it makes no sense to keep reputation items only in the safe box. So, what now? this means they are planning to get rid of all the items that are not reputation based?? :P, it will be funny to say the least. In any case, NO ONE wants to upgrade a weapon if it will lose the appeaance, no matter if it is a reputation item or not. I mean.. this is a huge mistake, unfortunately.

No, I should have been clearer :) Rep and unique items like the retrophasers are probably safe (haven't tested it, though). I was referring to Mk I weapons for example, as a lot of people consider those to look best being not as ridiculously oversized than later tier weapons and not riddled with blades or holo-effects, they are basically the most canon looking weapon models.

If you upgrade a MK I weapon though you don't actually keep the weapon, you get another one with a mark-appropriate appearance. So it is not possible to customize "your" end-game weapon in such a way.

Zoning did indeed help get the issue resolved.

One other small issue I have with this event though is why are these upgrade items not going into my R&D tab instead of taking up valuable inventory space? Am I the only person who sees these things as an R&D item and NOT regular inventory?

What was the point in giving us all this R&D space if obvious (at least to me) R&D items can't be put in there?

Because cryptic was expecting that people will waste a lot of time and efforts to collect millions of R&D materials. Cryptic was expecting as well people to buy c-store r&d packs. A lot of em. And im pretty sure that people in this case will have probably half of the R&D inventory space already filled.

Personally i think i will never see my R&D inventory space filled not even by 15%, because i am not going to put efforts on the crafting system. But other people will, and if you invest time just collecting R&D materials, you will fill your inventory. It always happens.

But i agree, at first i thought that the upgrade materials will go directly to my R&D inventory tab as well, but like you, i was surprised. Or maybe it is just another TRIBBLE up (probably, again i will not be surprised) and they need to fix it in the future.

    Hey **** this.

I just tried upgrading a MK XI [Acc] [CritD] [borg] dual cannon and it took my [borg] proc away from it. Now after using too much dilith, way too much time crafting upgrade items. as I notice this is a total dilith/z point sink, it hits me that I better at least finish it or I have a pretty useless weapon that I paid good dilithium for... Add more dilithium to finish imediately, not much, but just enough to pinch your holdings. that's really annoying after what I put into it I 'finish' the item, annoyed it took away the only reason I wanted it upgraded I then find out that it even took away the [Acc] proc too! What the hell!

WHY WOULD YOU HAVE IT TAKE [THIS STUFF] AWAY AND NOT AT LEAST GIVE IT A [NEW ONE] IN IT'S PLACE!?????

    Fine gonna try something else.

    [update]
Instantly upgraded my Lobi store Wrist Lance from it's now XII to MKXIII. wow okay not bad some hope in this new process. Decided to put some effort and save the other upgrade bonus for that and see if I can put enough into the upgrade to get the item to an ultra rare, put 200% more into it getting the item to MKXIII and only upped the chances to make the item UR, 5%. seriously!? probably about 5000 dilithium to give me a 5% chance NEXT TIME I try to upgrade the damn thing!? I can only imagine just how insane it would be to get it to that EPIC level. You know, the gold item TRIBBLE. I would take a month of hording your dilithium, maxing out every day, doing the extra dilithium run at the academy.

You might get to 25% chance to upgrade to gold by the end of next year.

    o...okay.... FINE.

Wary now but I've been wanting to upgrade a favorite old shield of mine. The Paratrinic Sheild array. It use to have the highest shield capacity but the lowest regeneration rate and when coupled with reverse shield polarity it would make a ship a tank back in the day. Let's see how it goes.

    [update]
This far getting it from XI blue to XIII blue was easy, but nothing seems to have changed in any of it's abilities. No increase in any of it's stats from what I wrote down. And yes it doesn't change it at all even as I view this shield's possible item when going to mk XIII Blue to Purple all it does is add a [???] and and nothing else, which looks like a MKXI blue's rendition of disruptor resistance. Sad, very very sad and another 8000 Dilth down the hole.

What about beams, the one I have the highest R&D in. I can get improved upgrades on those...

Built a few, and decided I wanted to upgrade my shuttle's rink a dink weapons. Oh nothing. aparently anything shuttle based can be upgraded. NOTHING. well ****!

And trying to upgrade my Voth MKXII [acc]x2 [dmg] dual beam bank didn't remove any of the []s as far as I can tell. But then I ran out of the pink lovely after two upgrades.

    FINAL VERDICT:

108k Dilthium just gone in under two hours. Items saying they are better but not having changed a single iota unless removing beloved procs, Inability to upgrade items that DO and HAVE BEEN needing to be upgraded since their introduction (I'm looking at you my forlorn and dust covered shuttles) and an intense utter hatred of this new gimmick.

Thank you for nothing, cryptic. Really, thank you for this horde of nothing, because at least with **** you can fertilize your garden with it.

The rarity levels seem to be broken compared to tribble build atm

Upgraded a Federation Type 1 phaser to a Federation Type 1 Mk XII [CritH]

1st.) a Rare weapon with 1 mod and no other special abilities?

2nd.) The Type 1 upgraded starts as a Mk II weapon but on tribble lower mk weapons give a 40% chance of a rarity upgrade, whereas on Holo atm it is only giving a 9-10% chance at rarity upgrade.

3rd.) Total upgrade cost was the 3-Free Superior ground upgrade, 1-Free Tech upgrade booster, 16-Basic ground gear upgrades, 6-Finish upgrade now clicks..... breaks down to.....

160k EC and 14,190 dilith for the Federation Type 1 Mk XII [CritH]

still a fun little gun to play with but something about the rarity % seems to be broken atm.

will kinetic cutting beam regain its mods? putting it into the upgrade box removes all of them, giving it the quality of a white item.

same for all those items that upon upgrading from level-less to mk xii lost stats.

I would be very careful with anything important like this.

My friend just upgrade the counter command console. It had 26 phaser and 13 photon. The upgrade is now 24.4 12.2 at level 13.

Also be sure to look at the finished product and see the stats before beginning.

it breaks the items as soon as you put them into the upgrade box, before you even start anything. i think it replaces the old rep item with a new, upgradeable one which is missing some mods in kcb's case and has incorrectly set up stats like nukara particle converter or zero point module.

the kcb is still mk xii, it just doesn't have its dmgx3 mod anymore. good thing i accidentaly bought two of those in the past, one was just gathering dust anyway.

it could be that 1) this is cryptic's way of circumventing the "tribble testing for gold only" block, and 2) they wanted to introduce a dil sink earlier to normalize the skyrocketing zen prices.

You seem to be correct, but the implementation seems to be non- standard for unique mission rewards.

Federation Type 1 Phaser Mk XIV VR 2mods

Federation Type 2 Phaser Mk XIV VR 3mods

Both are mission rewards, maybe it's because the Type 1 cannot normally be gotten in a higher mk level by replay.

I wonder also if they are afraid of people's reaction to difficulty levels? Maybe they want a good amount to have level 13 by then?

In any event I am enjoying it so far. I can make the level 12 or 13 purple field gens. These have long been very pricey items on the exchange.

It gains a mod every upgrade. Hence the white quality type 2 phasers from the TOS bundle are currently a better choice to upgrade than the mission rewards.

No clue why they pushed the system live in such a buggy state.
