At Level 51, we earn a specialization point. It continues one point per level till we hit 60.
Then, every time we earn enough XP to get yet another level (what would be 61, 62, etc.) we'll keep getting the specialization points but not any further increments on the level counter (and therefore rank counter)... At least till we fill up the current specialization tree(s)...
So, if it's one point per level, wouldn't a guy with 20 specialization points be the equivalent of a level 70 (50 + 20 points) instead of a 50 + 10 points to 60 + 10 extra points?
Not liking the implications, we'll have "stealth" L70s messing with L60s...
Detecting big-time "anti-old-school" bias here. NX? Lobi. TOS/TMP Connie? Super-promotion-box. (aka the two hardest ways to get ships) Excelsior & all 3 TNG "big hero" ships? C-Store. Please Equalize...

In the event you earn everything, the points will roll over to something else - sort of like how we roll over to Expertise now, but something better - we are not prepared to say yet.
Guess the game was good while it lasted maybe some of the newer players will enjoy it long enough to keep them employeed for just another year before they drop development like they have for the other Cryptic games.
Not liking the implications, we'll have "stealth" L70s messing with L60s...
This may sounds similar to someone on the tier 5 rep powers mixing with someone who has Tier 1 rep powers. After lvl 60 I think the specialisation points just update the powers similar to the rep tree.

Like I said, covering up one power creep with a brand new one.
It should take a while to max out. Hopefully, we will have more specialization trees added before that happens. In the event you earn everything, the points will roll over to something else - sort of like how we roll over to Expertise now, but something better - we are not prepared to say yet.
Oh I get it now. That's why you decided you wanted it to take us 2 years to get all crafting schools to level 20. So you can add more to it before we max it out, right? Can we get a "Finish Now" button for the new specializations that costs over 2 days worth of refined dil to max it out faster?
In other words this new "specialization" system will be released unfinished while at the same time forcing us to take a long time to max it so you can work on finishing it.
Does that about sum it up? Didn't you see all the complaints about the time gating in the crafting system before it was released?
Don't worry though. I'm sure by the time I get all crafting schools to level 20 by doing *only* the daily 6k XP project, it will be finished and super awesome by then. and I'm not spending any dil to "Finish Now", ever.
not sure how i feel about this , its too soon to really tell .
but the one thing about the level system has always bothered me in STO is why the Admiral ranks in the first place ? why not just Captain with a level after it. Why does it have to be rank change once you reach Captain?. just curious .
Nope, my entire point was that there's very little established canon regarding Dahar Masters, and thus that those who are saying that it can't possibly be a rank in the KDF don't really have much supporting evidence.
And if they're going to make that sort of claim, the burden of proof is on them. Until then, Cryptic can say just about whatever they want about Dahar Masters, and it won't contradict canon.
Except that it isn't a rank. The entire system of ranks in the franchise is based off of real world militaries. Hence the rise to General/Admiral. Dahar Master is a title, not a military rank
If it were a rank then Kor wouldn't have had such a problem getting a command, nor would he have to beg worf to be placed on a ship as third officer
He could have gotten his own ship easily, I would think.
He went out of his way to make a pretty clear point that he couldn't. 'No influence left in the empire' was the phrase I believe
This is not any different than a level 50 dominating a level 40. The more time you spend on your character, the better it gets.
Actually its a very different thing Gecko. You're comparing two completely different ranks, which by their very concept shouldn't be able to compete with each other, with essentially two level 60 characters who should be on fairly equal terms, but who will be able to get to a point where others can't really compete and may never catch up simply because that guy spent more time in the game
How about those Captains who have been with STO since the first year of it's opening getting an honorary Lifetime subscription?
How about NOT!
I've been here since day one and I PAID for mine with hard earned cash after six months of also doing a monthly subscription.
How about YOU figure out a way to BUY one.

"Another important change to the leveling system will come after reaching level 60. You will continue to earn Skill Points as if you are still leveling up, and each time you reach enough points to level up to what would be the next rank, you will earn an additional Specialization Point. This will give players the ability to continue earning points until you max out your Specialization Trees"
Takeaways from this:
- There is still a hard cap on the Specialisation Trees, it's just separate from the level cap and essentially another reputation system. Which makes it pretty clear that the so-called level cap increase is really about introducing T6 ships, but there you go.
- Skill points remain the currency of choice for levelling and specialisation. This is actually very good IMO; assuming that they're earnt as at lower levels, players have the choice to develop by the gameplay they enjoy most, whether it's episode replays, PVP, or DOffing. Will be interesting to see whether skill point rewards are added to STFs.
I have to chime in about the ranks. It takes so little time to reach level 50, it's pretty much just an extended tutorial, and I still hadn't figured out half the buttons in the UI by the time I'm getting addressed as "vice admiral". I'm trying to role-play a dashing young starship captain, and it just doesn't fit what my character is doing.
I think Cryptic is being stupid with the ranking system after level 40. They should have kept it at every 10 levels that you get a new rank. At least this way you can get to level 90 and they can sell new ship every 10 levels.

I can't wait 'til my Klingon get to the "rank" of "Dahar Master". I'd just love to to introduce my Galaxy shaking, Fleet leading, Mega butt kicking character as "Master Poet"
^ Memory Alpha.org is not canon. It's a open wiki with arbitrary rules. Only what can be cited from an episode is. ^
"No. Men do not roar. Women roar. Then they hurl heavy objects... and claw at you." -Worf, son of Mogh
"A filthy, mangy beast, but in its bony breast beat the heart of a warrior" - "faithful" (...) "but ever-ready to follow the call of the wild." - Martok, about a Targ
"That pig smelled horrid. A sweet-sour, extremely pungent odor. I showered and showered, and it took me a week to get rid of it!" - Robert Justman, appreciating Emmy-Lou

Unless Klingon custom allows him to keep the title after "retiring" or leaving active duty with the KDF. Which seems completely plausible to me.
I'm still looking for proof that Dahar Mater is not, cannot be a military rank in the KDF.
"But that's not how I thought it worked" is not proof.
...talking to players is like being a mall Santa. Everyone immediately wants to tell you all of the things they want, and you are absolutely powerless to deliver 99% of them.
No one said that. Thats a bizzare assumptions. Play whatever content you want.
Thanks for the clarification, The way I read it was the delta experience would be the only experience points counting into the advanced captian trracks
I still wear the Captain pips and use the Captain title despite being VA in rank.
I prefer playing as a Captain, and it doesn't matter how high the level cap goes, I can still use the Captain pips and title, if I so choose.
And players who want to play as an Admiral get their option as well.
And players who finally want to play as a Fleet Admiral will get that option opened up to them, also.
I'm all about options.
I do those things too; but how often do you see your own pips or title?
I can insist I'm a Captain all I like; but it doesn't help much if the game keeps insisting otherwise.
Personally, I think it would be a little late to be rolling everyone's rank back to Captain, and I like options as well; but I'd rather those options extended to display rank. I know there are reasons why letting it be set from the title list would be stupid, but it could work if ranks were split off into their own category.

Oh god, please no.
We don't want the Master to be some sort of weird hybrid of Sherlock and Khan.
