Dont know why you would expect that. Im sure we will raise the cap again in the future, but that is probably quite a while away.
Level 55 Admiral.
Level 60 Fleet Admiral.
Given the region of absurdity we're entering into with Fleet Admiral ranks and Dahar Masters, isn't *now* the time to do everyone a favour and completely de-couple rank from level?
I mean what are we going to do with 60 to 70? End up as Grand Ultra Fleet Master in Chief?
That wont do you any good. You cant "spend" you skill points on anything else except the current system. Points earned from 50-60 are only for the Specialization System.
Good blog post. I'm guessing that level 55 will be Admiral/General, and level 60 will be Fleet Admiral/Dahar Master?
If that's the case, can we tentatively agree that Delta Rising will be the final level cap raise, with any future expansions/content to work with some kind of alternate advancement mechanic?
" TREES " is the word you're looking for.
The "Ships Counselor"... sorry... "Captain", has recently stated such over the PA.

...talking to players is like being a mall Santa. Everyone immediately wants to tell you all of the things they want, and you are absolutely powerless to deliver 99% of them.
This is not any different than a level 50 dominating a level 40. The more time you spend on your character, the better it gets.
I think I am confused. Isn't that what the rep system essential did with players who were at level 50 longer than ones who just got there? Basically, those at level 50 longer had more time spent on their character, and therefore could dominate the fresh ones.
Yet, one of the reasons for the rep nerf was mentioned to reduce the gap between fresh level 50s, and ones that had more time invested at that level.
So, I think that what they are asking, and I am also, is what will keep the same problem happening with the new system? If you have someone at level 60 for 6 months, and someone who just hit level 60, what is to keep the one with more time invested from dominating the fresh character? Or, is this something that there is already a fix for, but details cannot be given yet?

It wouldn't be too difficult to stop changing the name of the rank with increased levels, if that's what they decided to do.

Depending on how these new skill trees work. Would it be safe to assume that you've taken on board everything that's happened with the old rep system? As in your not going to let us max out everything then a few months later hit us with the bomb shell that we can only have x amount active at anyone time. Also whilst I'm thankful that useful information is starting to be rolled out. The question that's on my mind as well as a lot of others is when are we going to find out about our current ships? Don't mean to be pushy. But this is killing me at the minute.
And awful nice of Al to post in this thread and answer questions.
I wonder if I stepped into the Mirror Universe STO forums.
Heh... don't get off the turbolift.

Thinking about twinks... they will be pretty much pointless in the new system - without a hard "finished for now" cap you'll always have to play your main. Doubt specialization would be accountwide?
The base code is set up in such a way to include a rank name change at each level.
I'm not so sure it's all that simple to change.
I seem to remember Dsthal telling us about this long ago when folks asked that same exact question.
It came down to having to re-write a very large section of the base code to enable this.
(something very much out of the question in terms of cost)

Alright, maybe a question that hasn't been asked yet...
... any spiffy uniform unlocks for hitting Fleet Admiral/Dahar Master, other than rank pips/sashes?
Maybe Klingons will finally get that Dahar Master long coat...
ThomasTheCat's uniform guide has Admirals and Fleet Admirals wearing standard Odyssey (and some Jupiter) gear, but I think there's potential for a fancier jacket, maybe with some TWOK-style pips and squeaks.

Looks like (if i understood it right), that we get a system we can advance in indefinitely. There are pros & cons to that, but we will see. Maybe it's also a move towards the revamp of the skill tree system?
Instead, for every level between 50 and 60, you will earn one Specialization Point that can be spent in the new Specialization Trees. Specialization Trees will be the main way you will develop your character past level 50, and they will open up new ground and space abilities as you progress. We will describe all the new features and abilities youll be able to find in these Specialization Trees in an upcoming blog, so stay tuned.
It will be interesting to see where the differences are in comparison to the Reputation and Trait systems.
This may be coming out of left field when mixed with the other questions/concerns, but is there any chance that there's going to be any UI changes to accommodate the potential addition of clickables we may be seeing with Delta Rising?
I'm running 1440x900, and I'm already beyond pressed for screen real estate unless I order a pair of those Zoomies they show on TV from time to time so I can scale the screen.
That vertical hotbar simply has no place on my screen, while there's plenty of space for a fourth horizontal bar to show...just not a bar that's available.
Team to the left, chat below, speed, shield/hull info, power, hotbars, singularity, various mission info, minimap, target info, and back to the team on the left...with a small "open" window in the middle of the screen to see what's actually going on - is what I'm looking at.
The 30 slots on the three bars are full - there are keybinds to slots on other bars because there's already too much for the 30 viewable...and we're potentially going to be looking at more. Hrmmm...
The BOFF bar's not shown because those can't be placed in any sort of logical order.
It just would be pretty nifty if we could drop that vertical bar to horizontal if we wanted...if we're going to be seeing more things that are going to be slotted on the hotbars. Heh, I'm getting old and with nine toons - sometimes I forget what I've got where on different toons - while I might finding it entertaining at times when I end up miskeying/fatfingering something, the folks I'm teamed with often don't see the same humor in it.
Just something that I hope has been a consideration...

They just have to make the grind as bad as the R&D one to keep us busy and complaining for 2 years.
Ehh, this thread's pretty active; stuff gets missed. I figured you'd see it eventually, but that I'd save you the trouble.
Maybe not what we want, wich you know is the whole upgrade debacle, from weapons to ships.
Still, nice to get some good info, instead of just "filler" info, for lack of better words...

At a guess? Because they didn't want to.

That sounds like some well needed appreciation for veteran players.
Will we be able to upgrade our fleet and rep gear to later tiers please?
maybe the long coat for the klingons?
