If they introduce T6 hero classes (Galaxy, Intrepid, Defiant, etc.)and other canon ships (Akira, Prometheus, etc.), then great! But if they are just doing T6 on Cryptic designs, then they should have a way so that players can upgrade said classes.
The timeline of Star Trek in this game has gone beyond the Star Trek Series. It is logical to me that as time passes there will be new threats from space traveling species that come into contact with the inhabitants of the 2 Quadrants. The Delta quadrant is new territory and we have not explored the Gamma Q. The only thing that is common with the Star Trek Series is "to go and meet new civilization...to go where we have not gone before."
If by some coincidence a new Star Trek Series (the 'Fourth Generation' as an example) is introduced by those who did the past ones, I am sure there will be more futuristic ships and new friendly as well as belligerent Species to be met. I can't see why many want to stay with their old ships. I, for example, think that most of you would rather have a newer car to drive around, instead of complaining of what would happen to grandpa's classic Cadillac. However, I will consider a retrofitting of the older ships, as that is normally done as time passes to keep them in tune to present reality, i.e. comms, improved shields, engines, cores, etc. as these things happen in real life. The shapes of the ships may change a bit due to new technologies in things like metallurgy etc., but they will still look like Fed ships of different designs. Look at a simple difference in the body of the original Enterprise with that of the Excelsior, and figure out the improvement to those after 100 years. I will, being one who has seen Star Trek since the first one to come out, will certainly want to keep the old ones as well....they may be worth more to a collector, probably of another species, interested in the history of space flight of us hewmons.
Don't worry about it and let's see what they come up with. We are making it much harder for them to develop the game if we keep on harping about what you have now. I still keep the original Porsche 911 which I inherited, which is worth more than the newest model, however, it still looks like a Porsche. Similarly, a new Galaxy XE T6 would still look like a Galaxy. But be ready for some new experimental ships that the F.O.P's members will design to be competitive with those who want us extinct. The Empire will make sure they are up to par, as well.
When there is a lv 60 cap, there will also be a free tier 5 ship en how will lv 50 players get it
free Tier 5 ships already exist. You get them at level 40. Remember, the tier system goes the following way:
Tier 1: Lieutenant
Tier 2: Lt. Commander/Centurion
Tier 3: Commander/Subcommander
Tier 4: Captain/Commander
Tier 5: Rear Admiral Lower, Upper and Vice Admiral/Brigadier General, Major General and Lieutenant General/SubAdmiral I, II and Vice Admiral.
The Free (non gold token) Tier 5 ships include the Sovereign (Assault cruiser), the Prometheus (non separation) and the Luna class ships, in addition to 1 other for each type of ship for feds.
Cryptic has a very, very poor track record when it comes to 'taking care of the veteran players/people with large cash/time investments'....every update to the game that has reset progress in some way (crafting comes to mind here) or a currency conversion of some sort (marks -> Dilithium anyone?) has been BAD for veteran players, they always get punished for playing, paying and staying with the game.

With all excitement circulating around our new upcoming expansion, Executive Producer, Stephen D'Angelo speaks about the new tier of ships and what it means for Captains in the coming weeks!

*Excitement* isn't the right word to describe it IMO.
I'd rather say "caution", "suspiciousness" or "worry".

That's the whole point of us playing a Star Trek game. If you're playing Star Trek Online solely because it's a MMO, then please leave. Your kind is not wanted. People like you are why people like JJ Abrams is trying to change Star Trek into something more "popular" and dumbed-down for people that can't handle the episodic content of the first 4 series.
Well said i don't play any other MMO's and this one has been the only thing i have played ongoing for years. However this game is becoming something like JJ Trek which is boring and monotonous and in it only for the money. There is now no exploration on fighting which is exactly all JJ Trek is

Wouldn't call the Oddy or the Avenger old cadillacs. One of the results of keeping us in 2409 for 3 years, is that there's now plenty of 2409 ships and refits which shouldn't be dropped in favor of 2410 ships. R&D takes time, they can't be THAT much better.
It would be nice not outgrowing our ships and being able to use our starter ship all the way to endgame content. But it's never going to happen for 1 simple reason: "NO T5 CONNIES PERIOD. SO STFU AND STOP ASKING!"~Cryptic
Guaranteed when X2 is released everyone will be asking for T6 Connies. I would settle for a mission where I could just fly one in like a time travel episode. However it wlll never happen so I just get on with it.

Just an FYI people, CBS still says no. End of story.
You're just a machine. And machines can be broken.
Developing starships takes a lot of dev effort, so Delta Rising is going to include between 7 and 10 new Tier 6 ships at launch, spanning all three factions. This is nowhere near enough breadth in starships to satisfy the player demand, and we know our players love the ships they are already flying. With this in mind, we are dedicated to making sure that players can continue flying the ships they love and still have those ships be competitive at the new level 60 end game. We do not want players to feel that their investment in the current ships is devalued by the expansion, and this is a very challenging thing to do for a game with four years of history since the last level cap increase.
I sure hope so. many players have invested real money into c-store ships. it would be a betrayal of those customers if they became worthless in October. (this relates to tier 5 and fleet ships only)
I prefer to see it in a positive light and that it means that the vesta lovin they have been talking about is coming because i love that ship

Paying a monthly subscription to play a game is one thing. You pay to access the game, and you get whatever you get along the way.
This is where you are completely wrong. It is the exact same thing. The two are just different ways to monetize the game. That sub went to all the time spent collecting tier 367 gear.
You may have 'bought' a 'ship,' but guess what, you don't 'own' that 'ship' any more than a WoW player 'owns' their tier gear or achievements. In fact, you are renting access to the game. For any reason whatsoever, Cryptic or PWE could revoke your access to that or any sub-part of it. Its in the terms of use and EULA. Welcome to gaming in 2014. You own nothing.

On the contrary, YOU are completely wrong, and here's why:
In WoW, you pay your 15 dollar subscription (and 60 dollar for new expansion), you get access to new levels, new quests, new dungeons/raids, and POTENTIALLY new gear from those dungeons/raids. The gear isn't handed out to you, simply because you paid for it. You still have to work for it.
In STO, you pay anywhere from 0-50 dollars for a ship, sometimes more if you choose to spend cash on buying lockbox keys, whereby the cost could easily spiral out a lot higher than all of WoW's expansion costs combined. That ship is yours, for as long as you play the game. It can be upgraded with new gear that you acquire from STFs, Reputations or Fleet Stores. But the ship itself is still very much yours.
The fallacy here, twoblindmonks. Is that you equate STO's ships to "gear" in WoW. It's not. The ship is your avatar, just as much as your Warrior or Rogue is an avatar. The gear, is what you outfit on the ship. When Blizzard releases an expansion, you still have your Warrior.
The Tier system needs to be abolished entirely, and allow ships to finally "level up" along with your ground avatar. Ofcourse you'll have the naysayers saying it won't happen because of the "T5/T6 Constitution problem". In which case, the solution is to make the scaling of visibly older ships, like the TOS Connie, scale lower than other newer ships. Basically separate ships into categories of "Built in 2200s, Built in 2300s, Built in 2400s...". Ships older than 2300 (which includes the TOS Connie), would never be competitive against the likes of the Intrepid (2300s) or Odyssey (2400s).

For Delta Rising, Cryptic MUST allow your ships to "level up" alongside you, or preferably do away with the leveling/tiering system entirely in regards to ships. In gametime, we've only moved 1 year forward (at most, couple of months) from where the game started back in 2010. Ships like the Odyssey, Avenger, Regent, Bellarophon, Sao Paolo etc, are all designed as "2409" ships. These ships must exist as entirely valid choices at Level 60 (Tier 6). Not competitive in that they are "almost as good as a Tier 6, but not quite". They need to be made fully possible to be used in every possible way as their new shiny Tier 6's.
completely agree since blizzard it's selling top end gear the situation can't be compared.
I have to agree we buy rights to use these c-store ships but we bought them under the pretece of playing endgame whit them. if those ships don't upgrade that aspect is lost. if so it's a huge betrayal of the customers that bought them to play endgame whit them.
I can understand needing them to be re-outfitted whit level 60 gear, that's comparable to a level cap increase in WoW. the ships not upgrading is absolutely not.

It is a perfectly normal part of MMO progression when an expansion releases that what you've worked on in the previous expansion loses value. You and others seem to have missed that point for the minutiae of the arguments here.
And for the record, I would support making all ship costumes available on all ships of that type, as it makes no sense to waste art assets back in tier 2 or 3. But that's as far as it should go.

I'm not the least bit excited for the new expansion. We only have the teasers they've dropped so far and for me, those teasers are leaving me scratching my head more than excited.
Am I worried that items I've paid money for are about to be rendered obsolete? Sorta, but apparently not to the extent others are.
My current t5 ships will be upgradable and I'm okay with that as long as it only involves running in-game content to do so. And that an upgraded t5 ship can run through all the new lvl 50-60 PvE mission content with relatively the same ease as it would run through the current lvl 40-50 stuff. I paid once for my 'stuff', I'm not paying again. Unless it was a one time thing and it allowed all my ships to be upgraded, then I could probably live with that.
I get that the lvl 50-60 content will probably be more difficult, it kinda has to be. And with the ability to upgrade current t5 ships it would stand to reason that upgrading for the new lvl 50-60 content will be rather helpful. I just hope that the Devs aren't creating the new lvl 50-60 content based on what the t6 ships can do. Not everyone has the kind of money to spend on a new ship. So even free players need to be considered.
I'm a LTS and while it doesn't really affect me, I would be curious if the free t5 ships can be upgraded. Part of me thinks they'd have to be upgradable or perhaps there will even be free t6 ships with no 'gimmicks' in order to not drive off the free players. Even though they may not sub, it doesn't mean they don't buy Zen from time to time. Not everyone is a leech.
Eh, my mind is starting to wander now so I guess I have just one last thing to say...
Not excited but curious and a little worried. Definitely not ready to riot though.
Make a man a fire and keep him warm for the day.
Set a man on fire and keep him warm for the rest of his life.
And for the record, I would support making all ship costumes available on all ships of that type, as it makes no sense to waste art assets back in tier 2 or 3. But that's as far as it should go.
That would be extremely cool, though it might be an overkill solution from Cryptic's perspective. I'm curious now if people are more attached to the ship and the layout or are they attached to the actual visual of that ship. The ship visual that I became attached to in the beginning was that old prototype Noble with the inter-nacelle bar on it. I still want that. Barring that I like my Noble with the Sovereign Stardrive. I'm still curious about what Tier 6 is coming down the pipeline though.
"Rise like Lions after slumber, In unvanquishable number, Shake your chains to earth like dew, Which in sleep had fallen on you-Ye are many they are few"
There is no fallacy in my logic. But you might want to check out the ToS and EULA: that ship isn't even remotely 'yours.' Your ship is not your avatar. Even if it were though, it wouldn't matter, you still don't 'own' it. If you want to keep believing you do, that's fine, I don't really care.
By your definition of what's written in the TOS and EULA (I'd wager you haven't read it all), then your WoW comparison falls flat on it's face as well. The avatars you have, the gear you acquire. They aren't yours. You're just "leasing" it.
And for the record, the ship IS your avatar. It's been stated repeatedly by devs, whenever the topic of piloting your ship from the bridge (a la Bridge Commander) has come up. Can't pilot your ship from the bridge, since your "ship avatar" does not exist while you are on the bridge. You are either the ground avatar, or the ship. Not both at the same time.
And one last time; A WoW expansion does not force you to play a brand new class, just because they increased the level cap. If you play a Warrior, you are always that Warrior, unless you reroll your character from Level 1. By your logic, when Delta Rising hits, we would no longer have our ground based avatars either. We would need to "upgrade" our avatars to a higher tier, to fully use the stuff we already have.
A ship is an avatar (repeated ad nauseum), you equip new gear you acquire into the various slots (engines, shields, deflector, weapons, devices, consoles). Your skills are tied to a combination of your chosen Career (Captain skills), and the chosen skills on your Bridge Officers. And due to the poor method it's been setup in STO, you can't always have the same Bridge Officer skill setup, no matter how hard you try.
It's fine that YOU don't want to be able to fly the older designs (old being ships like ODYSSEY, which is virtually brand new). That doesn't mean you speak for the majority. In fact, I'd wager the majority plays STO because they want to fly the ships of their choice. Not because YOU or anyone at Cryptic tells them to fly one specific ship. Period.
And there's the glaring fallacy in your logic. On the ground, your captain is your avatar. Now just take a guess what your avatar is in space. Yep- it's your ship.
Okay! The last time you guys did a poll about races to see from the delta quadrant, I really wanted to see the Vidiians
With this expansion, I really hope to see this race used for their potential to give an extra spice to life in the game. With their phage, they stole organs. If there were STF PvEs with them, a critical injury could be a stolen organ! Now that I would consider to be fun, totally annoying and frustrating if it were to ever happen to you, but fun!
Their star ships could truly bring new challenges to combat!
For example, the Vidiian starship (2371) was a small craft that could be run by a compliment of 2, and had the capability to use a type of dampening field that began to bleed energy from Voyager's warp nacelles at a rate of seven percent per minute.
Does this sound like a Vidiian frigate? I think so.
Another Example, the Vidiian starship (2371-2372) had a crew compliment of approx 350, and used a sophisticated grapple system that allowed the ship to board other ships. It also had equipped Hypothermic Charges which successfully destroyed Voyager's weapons array.
Now that's just what I'm hoping we will see someday in STO.
According to the updates from STO Wiki's Upcoming Content Page, we will not yet have mini-fleets with our Bridge Officers commanding other ships, but that is still a hope. THIS WOULD BE SUPER COOL!
And I am not a hater, but I would like to suggest something. You have promised us a second deflector in science ships, but that is still of yet not implimented fully. You have also told us cruisers get new Auras. Now I am 99% sure you gave the raiders the raider flanking, but please give us what you have promised us before you promise us other future content!!
Also, I would again like to thank the team, and the game for having my screenshot as a loading page! It looks absolutely beautiful when on KDF side, because the colors perfectly match!!!
It also is the desktop background of one of my monitors!!!
Once I get a solid hour of free time, I have got to update my signature, with tasteful, but useful words that the rest of the community would benefit from hearing, or at least get a good laugh out of.

ship are not gear! what you say can't apply to them.
what you put in ships is, needing to farm for that is only logical as you said.
in the end we've paid real money to get those ships. if they don't upgrade cryptic betrays it's own customers. that's the real issue here not if it's a normal part of progression in an MMO.
just on a side note how will cryptic continue to sell C-store ships after they betray their customers trust like that? It's ok to invest in a ship if you can keep playing endgame whit it but this is going to set a precedent for the next level cap increase! if those "old" c-store ships become worthless when X2 launches STO players will think twice about buying a new C-store ships because they now know the next expansion can make that investment worthless.
without those c-store sales cryptic can't keep the servers running. if Cryptic handles this situation badly X2 can kill STO!

Great marketing of Delta Rising spreading the news of what's to come out to make the game more fun to play. I really hope they have invested all the LTM money into new network equipment to take care of the network balance loading issues in 8742, Dyson Sphere an other holo decks that have more than 15 players playing. I'll wait and see approach. I am still playing and I hope my Risian Luxury Cruiser (aka Battle-ship) can get to T6 level otherwise it will be NO-WIN with it.

Guaranteed when X2 is released everyone will be asking for T6 Connies. I would settle for a mission where I could just fly one in like a time travel episode. However it wlll never happen so I just get on with it.

People are already asking for T6 Connies.
Just an FYI people, CBS still says no. End of story.
First of all it's not even a crafting system! It's just a dumb game system that's nothing more than a glorified slots machine.
second the "special items" you hope will be the saving the saving grace are messed up to.
Pay no attention to the dates and titles under my name at the left! I am a Career Officer, Lifetime Sub since launch, was in the Beta. Having problems with my forum account.
Ships older than 2300 (which includes the TOS Connie), would never be competitive against the likes of the Intrepid (2300s) or Odyssey (2400s).
completely agree since blizzard it's selling top end gear the situation can't be compared.
First of all it's not even a crafting system! It's just a dumb game system that's nothing more than a glorified slots machine.
second the "special items" you hope will be the saving the saving grace are messed up to.

For the record I'm not bothered either way about a T5/6 Connie, however I would love to see a T5/6 Exeter/Excalibur/Vesper Retrofit option.
Set a man on fire and keep him warm for the rest of his life.
It also is the desktop background of one of my monitors!!!
would you also like to reply to what i said about this?
ship are not gear! what you say can't apply to them.
what you put in ships is, needing to farm for that is only logical as you said.
in the end we've paid real money to get those ships. if they don't upgrade cryptic betrays it's own customers. that's the real issue here not if it's a normal part of progression in an MMO.
just on a side note how will cryptic continue to sell C-store ships after they betray their customers trust like that? It's ok to invest in a ship if you can keep playing endgame whit it but this is going to set a precedent for the next level cap increase! if those "old" c-store ships become worthless when X2 launches STO players will think twice about buying a new C-store ships because they now know the next expansion can make that investment worthless.
without those c-store sales cryptic can't keep the servers running. if Cryptic handles this situation badly X2 can kill STO!
