I don't care if we have to pay, but the old ships need to have a way to become truly tier 6, not just competitive.
lol. No.
I want new stuff, not dragging the old stuff along with us. We finally have a chance to shake things up and dethrone certain kings of their domain (looking at you bugship and scimitar.)
Level cap increases happen. Adapt. This community is so spoiled and scared of change.
The disparity between current t5 ships and t6 ships should be equivalent to the fleet patrol escort vs the mirror patrol escort, at the very least.

That makes sense if real money wasn't being thrown at these ships.

I think this is silly. People put a lot of effort into their Heroic raid gear in WoW, yet with each expansion they gleefully leave that work behind and plunge into the next 10 levels of content, quest greens and all.
WoW was built with the expectation of yearly (lol, ok maybe once every 2 years) expansions.
STO does not have that history. Especially when all the major iconic ships are sold for big money -- an income stream that PWE would be foolish to destroy.

You also have to think that many sales will come from 'top tier' ships with many of the lower teir ships neglected except to get hold of specific consoles. The T5 ships are unique in that their consoles can only be equipped on themselves and are not upwardly mobile like the T1-4 ships. The sales of T5 ships, and by default the LoR Legacy pack is then basically slaughtered if T5 ships are thrown out with the bathwater. They have to be upgradeable as finances will depend on them greatly.
Will there be a new Uniform code for the Romulans? Now that the Republic is "established" and there appears to be no Empire to speak of, will the Republic have a new unifying uniform concept? The Feds got the Oddessy and the Klingons got the Bortesque. What about the Romulans?

They sure as hell didn't upgrade the D'kyr. Or the regent once the avenger came out. They haven't suddenly pulled t4 or old t5 ships as the newer, better ones have crept out. They just kept pumping the latter out. This won't be any different.
C store ships get left behind all the time, nobody cares.

Hey look... If ships weren't as costly as they are, I'd be backing you 100%...
But they DO cost money, and they are our space characters... So basically... NO.
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
At least $65. $50 for the expansion itself, and at least $15 for one month sub fee.
This. /10char.

You go through at least 5 ships before you even get a ship worth paying for. So what, your t5 you bought became as good an investment as if you bought a t3? If you weren't expecting that eventually, that's your lack of foresight, not some evil game dev's sinister plot.
At least you got a much longer period of use out of your investment in a t5 ship than you would've a lower tier ship. 10 dollars for the heavy escort you used for 10 levels (a week tops?) vs 30 for your fleet heavy escort carrier that you've likely used for more than 3 weeks is already a full return on your investment...
Blog in one sentence:
"We know this is the biggest thing everyone is worried about and we have a plan for it, but we're not telling."
They know the answer and we already got a warning shot across the bow from that geicko guy in the stoked podcast.
Cryptic is better off taking the best sellers and making T6 versions + new ships.
Making T5 ships "competitive" sounds a little suspect.

But, you as a player made the choice to throw real money at it...
the Wow comparison still stands. real sub money and expansion pack money went into that tier gear, and its abandoned every expac. Same thing here, just different spending model.

Trust me: If I had been offered a leveling Defiant at Level 1, I would have taken it... Heck, I flew my captain level Defiant until they released the retrofit...
One thing is for certain after this... I am done spending money on Cryptic... Fool me once... Yea... thats as far as I let them get.
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Utterly pointless blog that just repeats what we've already been told and reassures none of the tens of thousands of players who've invested into Tier 5 ships. Get the message and just address it.
After that, you can do whatever you want with the rest of the content rollout blogs.
From the changes that have happened since season 9 I would surmise that cryptics plan is to wipe the veteran playerbase.
You, obviously haven't seen any of my posts in awhile.

Why then whats the point of doing tier 6. I swear I think some of you have never played any other MMO before.
By your logic all ships should be the same tier then why wasn't tier 1 upgradeable to tier 5 or any other tier for that matter.
Leave the tiers they way are and offer retrofits for some of them in tier 6, and no they are not free you should have to work for them.
In our fleet there isn't 1 mmo player, lol if this was just a mmo i would have been gone for 3 years, we are star trek fans, thats the only reson we play this game.
I'm love FPS.
Season 2 was released on July 27, 2010. That is four years, 12 days ago and we still have several months till the release of Delta Rising which makes his statement correct.

Technically, and there was also a second one when F2P launched. But instead of a level cap they restructured where Upper Admiral was no longer Level 50.
The upgrade should be easy. It should be sort of cheap, and it should use very little in the way of resources of in-game. We already paid for ships that were to be of use at End Game, adding to end game should not negate the use of those ships, in fact, removing those ships from our perview at end game, or making them less useful actually limits a character's usefulness at end game becuase, like my main, I am almost out of ship slots I can unlock! I already have to carefully pick and choose which ships to keep and which to let go, shuffling between which ships to keep and which to let go, knowing a few of them are lock box ships I don't have a way of re-obtaining and others are C-Store ships I can re-issue and others are Fleet ships I can re-issue if I have too for a price.
Adding on 3-4 new T6 ships, as a collector I have to have access to each to try out builds with my main, I foresee storage issues as a main problem coming our way? Is a shipyard slot going to be added for free, or possibly more then one?
Wait... it was turned by a cloak and dagger operation into a "Crazy Chicken"-Style shooter, then "lived" a undead exisence for several years until they pulled the plug?
(2-3 weeks or so before they changed the Game System someone posted Informations on the forum, we laughed at him, called him a conspiracy theorist, ~ 10 Years later i still feel bad)
I got sick a few days before the TRIBBLE hit the fan back then and didn't get back to the game for a couple of weeks...

Really? Is it just me or did they just reiterate a portion of what they told us in the last announcement? They've merely said we'll announce soon details on Lv60 increase and T6 ships...that's it. It's less informative than before.
Been said many, many times but we'll see. Previous track record says otherwise but will judge on their results.
I'm sick of reading comments like this. Get some patience ffs.
They have said they have a system to prevent T5 ships becoming obsolete, so just wait and see what it is when tribble fires up and more dev blogs come around to tell us.
Half the people here sound like spoilt children. Get a grip.

All I read from that Blog was 'we are releasing a new expansion and are best evaluating how to monetize it from peoples old ships'. Having just a few ships released means the rest of the money needs to be made from upgrades to older ships.
Or, you know, from still selling the old ships. Upgrades are going to help with that.
They sure as hell didn't upgrade the D'kyr. Or the regent once the avenger came out. They haven't suddenly pulled t4 or old t5 ships as the newer, better ones have crept out. They just kept pumping the latter out. This won't be any different.

The D'kyr is a terrible example for your argument since it is a T5 ship as is the Avenger. While an Avenger may be better people will still buy the Regent or the Iconic D'kyr due to it being a T5 ship but when T6 ships come out it will be forgotten about unless it is upgradeable - hence my opinions.
But, you as a player made the choice to throw real money at it...

A poor investment on your part doesn't constitute precedent for gimping the potential of new content.

Season 2 raised the cap to 50.
