SA only effects your damage, but ya its crazy powerful, especially on the cruisers that have it
Really didn't even realize that... lol to be honest all I ever do is pug STFs anymore... they end so fast there is no point in trying to get DPS club teams going or anything. I never really paid any attention to what the other kids where doing I guess.
Seriously though it is way more powerful on a science ship... each stack 5% more particle dmg... AND 5% more drain. Granted it only helps on one NPC in a grouping if there plentiful but heck Traited up GW yanks the npcs into a nice pile like they where paper toys. Anyway ya SA is great... just saying it really does boost the heck out of a bunch of sci synergies. My sci sci pallisade hits 50-60k torp crits on gates and such regular like with 2 tac consoles. lol
We don't need more ships, better gear, and a cap increase... It's ridiculous. There is NO challenge left in this game for experienced players. In fact I *just* ran NWS, not even an hour ago, on a Dyson Destroyer, Sci Reman, with blue doffs, and it was laughably easy. The hardest End Game, "elite", content and our team rofflestomped it in under 8min. Maybe less, I wasn't really timing it. The most taxing thing I had to do was pick up my loot. -.-
Sooo... you don't think that they've been holding off on giving us a challenge till we get our new level 60 tier 6 MkXIV stuff?
I am unfamiliar with the EQ2 model so I'll take your word for it. As for the LOTRO model I'm pretty sure your gear is not as closely tied to real money like it is in STO thanks to ships and the dilithium model.
I dunno time will tell. The STO F2P model is semi unique and I think this will either revitalize the existing players or completely destroy it. Time will tell.
I'm familiar with both of those games and their F2P models. It's not at all the same as what Cryptic has done.
You advance your gear in-game. Not through store purchases. Though you can purchase through the store stuff for your gear in EQ2, last I played it was all starter-esque gear. You can however purchase a near max level character with a decent set of near max level gear to hop into the near-endgame in EQ2.
In LOTRO ever since Moria, your weapons and stuff level with you. So it's really different. But you can purchase power through that. Kind of.
Not the person to ask. Since that person doesn't post the blogs.
The person that does post the blogs, has been inconsistent of late. Here's hoping they get straight on that though, since these blogs will be kind of big time.
I think it's time to hoard my Dilithium. I get the feeling Zen upgrade tokens are in our future.
Yep. It'll look something like this:
New ship bundle in the CStore.
New playable species....if you pay for it
And, best of all, Zen will be on sale for 15% off like it was at the release of LoR.
I bet 500 Quatloos.
My Old Blog about things that could and should have been added when I wrote it. Not sure what I want to do with it now. I'll just keep it available now that most of it is outdated.
People, people, people - can we all just wait for the Devs to say their piece before we all start flying off the handle about it!
You're assuming they'll actually say something here. On this forum.
Best we're gonna get is an announcement a week or so before the actual release.

Q&A: science ships not competitive, especially when not in fleet. Crafting is for that. New tac heavy Sci ships coming
:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:
sci ships dominate in a 5v5 environment, against targets who's effectiveness is totally dependent on 12 station powers. pve pits you against 100 npcs that have little or no station powers. they are to simple for debuffs to effect them, and to numerous to control in a useful way. if you think sci ships aren't the dominate class in game, your not playing enough pvp. if criptic wants to buff sci ships, make NPCs 10 times as complex, more like a player ship, and MUCH less numerous. then the game stops being DEEPS online
Not everyone plays PvP, not everyone likes PvP, and we shouldn't be forced to play PvP, so saying a class of ship is fine because of PvP is ignoring a large chunk of the game making it a less than worthwile argument. I do agree a large portion of the problem is NPCs and level design and the ensuing DPS Inline. Whenever I hear them talking about more difficult STFs I really hope they do so by making NPCs more complex rather than just making them bigger meatshields like they are now. That's not more difficult, that's just basic power creep and fixes nothing.
That they want to fix science vessels by adding more tactical to them just illustrates the issue that PvE is one dimensional.
It is still interesting to see people complain about sci ships when they are in the best place they have ever been. I have no idea what people are doing wrong but my science ships are my best pve and pvp ships right now. New SA is the craziest thing the devs have ever given us. Seriously I'm parsing anywhere from 20-35k DPS STFs in my science ships... and the STFs end faster in general cause my 6 stacks of SA on gates ect is increasing the team dps and dropping them in seconds.
I wonder sometimes if people are playing the same game.
I agree with you on Secondary Deflectors though... I was looking forward to skill like Charged particle burst having an actual use again.
Still as I see it even with out the Secondary Deflecs... there is only one skill of all the science skills that doesn't have an actual use... that is CPB and at least it is fixed if they ever get us the deflector upgrade.
I will agree science vessels are in a better place than they have been, but they still aren't quite up to the level other ships are. Those DPS numbers are still lower than other classes can pull. Of course I don't think more DPS, especially more weapon DPS, is the right answer which is why I don't particularly like the idea of fixing the problem by adding another tac heavy SV. I don't think the problem is solved until DPS stops being the only metric to gauge ships.
It's actually not just SVs, they have been using the more Tac and DHCs for cruisers as well. The last few ships of that class have been tac heavy as well. It's not a fix, it's a band-aid to avoid actually addressing the real issue, and that's what really bothers me. Rather than keeping each class as is and adressing the viability of their unique features, they want to make everything more escort-like.
Also there's a couple other science powers that aren't up to snuff. Photonic Officer isn't so hot either.

Hardly arbitrary. It's been discussed for at least two years.
My guess? Both!
Given the new crafting system, aren't these the same thing?
I can't answer specifics. There will be a Q/A happening here that may/may not answer those questions: http://www.livestream.com/trekradiotv
More details will be revealed in a slew of dev blogs over time.
33.33% of the STO Ship Art team.
100% of the new guys on the STO Ship Art team.
Keeping in mind the Trait revamp, I have to say I don't feel they're going to take care of anyone with these changes.
They will probably upgrade our ships to T6, but then we need to acquire the necessary gear to outfit it.
After all, what's the point of buying anything with dil, be it fleet holdings or new equipment, if it's going to be pointless?
Any time after today is the only answer I have.

It's nowhere near as direct as this game.

P.S. I miss Brandon.
At the mo we have 15 pages with little to no facts to back anything up and assuming anything usually gets us nowhere.

is this going to be stream going to be reposted?
I missed it.
It might be better to get infront of how upgrades are going to be done. I have already heard some in my fleet predicting some dire things.

"Coffee: the finest organic suspension ever devised. It's got me through the worst of the last three years. I beat the Borg with it."
Fairly enough.
As long as you guys realize tier five ship sales are pretty much dead until this is explained.
Surely your PR people have advised you of this?

Good point. You know CBS has never said WORD ONE about a Tier SIX Connie!
Wait ... What if the upgrade system allows for the mythical tier 5 - or in this case, tier 6 - Connie?! :P
Yes PLZ! Definitely!

SA also affects power drains, by the way. Still it's a bad idea to have been put on those cruisers.
Which reminds me......
CBS suposedly said no to a T5 Connie, but I've heard nothing about a T6 one! It's a whole new game now. :P
